Platini’s house of cards
So Platini felt the hand on the shoulder.
He accepted a huge position with mega responsibility in the world of football governance based upon his on field career , and as such was viewed as a man of the people who actually had a say , could and would help the beautiful game which gave him his platform.
And he proved fallible,,such are some men.
I am simply delighted his myth has been exposed ( we all should when a fraud is nailed ) and if anything this should concentrate the gaze of footie fans upon those they pay well to run their favourite sport .
From the very highest level down as we see right before our eyes.
We all know the game was once pure and theres a fantastic story of 11 locals reaching the absolute pinnacle of the game but thats to be discussed another day.
A wise soul also said television would be the death of the game.
That man may well be dead and buried God bless him but he came very close to hitting the nail on the head even all those years ago.
So I already wrote that Qatar aint going down in my humble opinion however a sports journalist was explaining that in the contract there were stipulations that should Qatar meet certain expenditure and structural obligations ( which they did very quickly ) then legally the World Cup they were granted cannot be taken away , without major repercussions in a court of law for decades that could bring bankruptcy so no go.
That leaves it on,,but likely diminished.
Cannae see this one going down routine at all though.
Player wise,,
I could see a top player , under pressure from his club , to say nah actually that would harm my body which is my career after all.
And then it begins.
House of cards just about covers it.
The other top stars are out ,, fans are in uproar , players who were gonna retire after this tournament say its ruined their international legacy.
Let your mind ramble how bad the fallout could be on the footballing department side,,managers saying if you dont play I dont go ?
Associations make demands of clubs to force the issue ?
Some Clubs pull every star from that damaging heat and strain?
Dont blame me my star player wasnt there? ( theres a beauty of a get out for every manager )
Theres more , much more that could go down.
The fan’s side of the game was already looking at a new world versus old world clash of customs that has the smell of lets wing written all over it.
Many fans will just take the usual for granted ( beer , bacon and sausages ) and anyone saying no to them will be seen as an obstacle in a moral battle most likely.
And if short womens clothing is undesired yet its the modern trend plus over 40 degrees?
And then they find out its not a full strength Cup,,superstar X , Y and Z has bailed having paid out the wedge for an off the bucket list excursion that ends up tainted .
Many pitfalls on the fans side as far as I can see.
But the money men,,,this is where it gets interesting . Once bitten twice shy springs to mind.
They paid out the big bucks for the miserly yet all the more enhancing only every 4 years big Cup expecting business as usual and nothing but gravy to flow ,, and they got sold a pup.
They cant move it so we can expect major fallout is my take.
The heavyweight fingers will start pointing and we havent seen fingers like these pointing before.
The Tv men wont trust Fifa / Uefa one bit now,,sure look theres the last supposed good guy getting hauled off now ffs.
Theres a showdown brewing ,, and those Tv corporations hold many aces here.
They have the bankroll ,, for sure the win any financial pissing contest.
They control the ad’s ,, and thus sway opinion as only that stupid oblong box in the corner can.
They have the big 5 leagues ,, their cash brings sway in one form or another ie change fixtures.
This could be the moment they need to make a power grab.
Tv companies take over,,,well can it get much worse?
We are a marketers dream especially that beautiful strip allied with the passion of the fans at home under the lights.
I never thought I would ever think it but perhaps a screwed up World Cup might actually help .
The current shower and their last supposed decent footie man blew it.
The games never been weaker at a structural level ,, foundation cracks everywhere.
Its biggest event goes bad , the house of card’s might just collapse.
“A change is as good as rest “ springs to mind.

Rupert Murdoch has a lot to answer for regarding tv football, as does the Russian oligarks like mr abramovich, why the hell did ken bates sell chelski to him that was the root of all evil.hh.
People are inherently good but there are many who are greedy bastards when it comes to material wealth and power combined with their ego it makes for people like Platini to do what they do. Football is riven with it, its all about the shekels now.
MAHE
Great article, mate. If any of these “alleged” bribes were paid in US dollars, that will bring in the FBI.

You have to wonder about the sheer greed of people like this;how much is enough when too much is never enough?

I think Chelsea Village, which owned that club, were on the edge of bankruptcy. Bates would have bitten the hand off anybody to sell up.

Not going with the “ proof” selections from the guys providing the information. Don’t feel it’s offering anything I can’t analyse myself.
Apologies in advance but I’ve been extremely busy and unable to complete the stamina index in any great detail for the Gold cup so I’ll post what I have in a few minutes.
TNT
Oh ffs. Just posted long message and it’s not appeared. Geez….
Ascot Gold Cup
This is about Class and Stamina
STRADIVARIUS defends his crown
Faces 10 rivals including 6 x 4yo’s
Handles soft and stays
You’d expect him to go close again
When Yeats won as an 8yo
He was the first his age to win in 116 years
THOMAS HOBSON is old aged 9
MAGIC CIRCLE is now a 7yo
Aside from multiple winner Yeats
None have won his age since 1993
Should be out of his comfort zone
DEE EX BEE is on a hat trick
Having researched him ante post
Was not convinced of his stamina
More so now the current ground
If you look at his sire Farhh
Bred a 2m 1f winner in Class 5
Bred a 2m winner in Group 3
So far his runners over 2m 2f + are 0-3
Damsire a stamina index of 8.7f
I think the evidence points
To several more obvious stayers
DEE EX BEE does not feel safe
Racing Post Ratings
Top 3 Ratings
Of horses sired by Farhh
On specific ground conditions
Heavy – 99 90 68
Soft – 98 98 93
G-Soft – 110 108 102
Good – 119 115 108
G-Firm – 119 114 107
Firm 90 75 74
The above
Far from scientific
But the sires best horses
Score significantly better
In the Good to Soft to Good to Firm range
He may go and stay and win
Make me look foolish by doing so
But I just don’t see a good enough case
FLAG OR HONOUR is respected
But he comes from a 10f race
No Gold Cup winner managed that
Nothing otherwise wrong with his profile
CAPRI has been disappointing
Has not placed in his last 5 runs
But a stuffy type and hard to get fit
If the trip suits 20/1 will be value
CALLED TO THE BAR is a French 5yo
Consistent but no form over 2m +
Would not have chosen stall 1 here
CROSS COUNTER is a big player
Godolphin 4yo with good numbers
Horses aged 4 with 1 run this year
Have a brilliant Gold Cup record
They won in these recent years
2018 2016 2014 2013 2012 2003
They had the following absences
34 13 32 50 50 24
CROSS COUNTER has 82 days off
Quite a testing break to overcome
Past winners absences
34 28 13 21 32 50 50 18 92 53 53 22 242
Rite of Passage (2010) had 92 days off
Yeats (2005) had 242 days off that year
But neither of these were 4 year olds
Royal Ascot
Group 1 races
Since 2004
Horses absent over 8 weeks
Having 9 or more career starts
Have a 1-74 record in these races
Male horses like him were 0-68
CROSS COUNTER has 9 runs
He is right on the edge of that stat
I would like to forgive him that
But the ground makes it harder
One Option
CROSS COUNTER each way 4/1
You would expect him to be placed
The other option
One I mentioned a week ago
would be the split stake bet
CROSS COUNTER to win
STRAIVARIUS as the saver
Again there is merit in that
Selection
CROSS COUNTER 7/2
King Ademar at 8/1 or 9/1 in 5pm is today’s best bet. ( each way)
VAR; Unforeseen consequences – Lost spontaneity.
spontaneity
(noun)
the condition of being spontaneous; spontaneous behaviour or action.
“Nae body move. Theres been a VAR!”?
Auldheid
I don’t have the same level of faith that VAR will see the Scottish game suddenly become a level playing field that some think it will. Why?
Cos the ultimate decision is still one of human interpretation.
All we will be doing is replacing the cheat on the field to multiple cheats plopped in front of a tv screen.
Also, all of the subtle cheating will remain. Unchecked by VAR. Breaking up play when it benefits our opponents, sly fouls, booking inconsistencies.
Sceptic?
You bet.

Thanks for the article Mahe but I am too busy worrying about my own team to be concerned about shenanigans at fifa.
I cannot actually believe that our first competitive game is 3 weeks away and we do not have a chief scout or director of football. Our negotiations are done by a man who always goes on too low and instead of learning from this repeats the same mistakes. We have a dearth of defenders and he’s running about trying to sign a development midfielder. Wtf is the strategy. Long term planning is essential yet we appear to have none of that. It’s pathetic. Well run club my a..e. We have this every year and every year we hear how it’s going to be different. Doesn’t seem that way to me. Meanwhile the Huns have signed 5 players. Would we want any of them? No probably not but they’ve got a plan and they’re putting it into action. Something we should maybe try!!
ATOB
You are worrying for nothing.
We are Celtic the world’s best run club with the bestest CEO to ever reside on this planet.
A dream coaching staff and a bloated and unbalanced squad.
Dismiss your doubt’s young lady.
ATOB
You’ve just summed up a conversation I had with one of my kids earlier today. I’m due to hand over a fair amount of cash shortly for my seats next year, but there had better be some fffff news of a positive nature, very very quickly or I won’t be parting with the cash.
Yet again we reach approach the latter end of June with absolutely no signs that we are strengthening to keep our CL qualifying ambition in with a shout.
That’s probably the point. OUR ambitions. Fff knows what theirs is.
Be bad enough if we don’t qualify. Even the 9 will be in serious danger. I’m not willing to hand over a small fortune to see it crumble before my eyes.
I’m sick to the back teeth of P.L. and the Celtic board. I’m at the absolute rage stage now
Diabolical. Season tickets are sold. Here we go again. We’ll be watching Jim Whyte at a minute to transfer window closing time praying for news.
???????????????????????????????????????
TNT and fan a tic
It is a disgrace that we keep having this conversation every close season. We are being taken fir mugs and TNT you are quite right to withhold your cash. I would be thinking the same. Too many noses in the trough to see what is actually happening
ATOB and TNT
Though a supporter from a distance this will be the first time since live tv broadcasts began that i will not be watching my team on what could be a historic season.
I cancelled my subscription to Celtic tv as i no longer want to be part of their dishonesty and collusion with people who hate our very existence.
I think about it every day but to date i have stayed resolute in not renewing.
I fully intend to try my best to avoid Celtic plc until this board of charlatans and carpetbaggers are gone.
Spoke to two nephews last week who have renewed their season tickets but are now having regret due to the lack of ambition and investment in team and coaching staff.
They have both said it may be the end of their support if the plc don’t change their attitude towards fans and show ambition for team.
This board’s lack of empathy with fans and sheer greed will be their undoing.
I see we have now recruited someone to help us with our recruitment “ initially across the summer”
http://www.celticfc.net/news/16328
Had a discussion with my brother two years ago about the way we were going forward. Now you dont have to be some sort of sage to know that our custodians are always likely to somehow feck things right up for us and our club but on this occasion we reached the conclusion that even they would find it difficult to do so given the circumstances. You think after forty odd years of experiencing it that you would bloody learn, but I havent apparently. Now, two years on, lost our best manager since MON, lost two centre halfs and a right back without replacing them, and three weeks till the season starts. Genuinely couldnt make it up
Initially across the summer?
Once again the worlds best run club makes it up on the hoof.
Why aren’t more clubs following the brilliant and innovative strategy of the best CEO in history?
Reactionary CSC.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bn6ZvGDovjw
A resonant tune for the imposters.
HaHaHaHaHaHa
“Initially across the summer”
You really couldn’t make it up
Just another thing telling us that the CL is not on the agenda, I doubt the EL is either by the looks of it, but we are a well run club they will tell you, jeezo, how great it must be to be that gullible.
I could be wrong but I am sensing a little negativity around. ?
Rebus
what a SHAMBLES, nicky who,,,,, ffs lawwell we need players and need them now, but ive forgotten we are a well run club, don’t think things will change ghuys, till peter and dermot.gtf.hh.
New guy joins the club, not even given a title, but is gonna help us out initially over the summer. Well, that looks bloody amateurish-at first sight.
But what if…
Nick Hammond has done his homework on PL and said that HE will give US a three-month trial? And his homework wouldn’t have been much,a couple of phone calls would have sufficed.
Hammond has been out of work for some time I believe, he will be grateful for the job I reckon and will be another puppet.
It’s all very well employing a pretendy DoF, thing is the guru still controls everything, if he says no, it’s no, end of, a proper DoF will have a budget and the CEO will NOT get involved, reading between the lines Hammond is a scout for the summer, that’s all he is.
Holiday cover for Lawwell, while he’s over at Sandy Lane.
BADABING
Sandy Lane? Is that where Lawwell left the company chequebook last summer? Or was that the summer before?
As far as qualifying for the CL is concerned do we really want to go through another 1-12 aggregate score or a 0-7 hammering from Barcelona ? As supporters we dont see whatever money they receive for qualifying anyway so Ive come to the conclusion that its hardly worth the grief or the humiliation. And anyone thinking that we should be able to emulate Ajax should realise that they were willing to shell out more than 40m and they also make far better use of their youth academy.
twentfirstofmaynineteenseventynine no pal im like you, don’t want anymore hammerings, lets stay out of Europe Brexit .com?
Exited to hear the spin on the organ grinder.
2019 the year of the excuse or was that 2018,2017,2016 etc, etc, etc.
Guess we have all seen the picture far too often.
But lets all laugh at sevco and everything will be hunky dory.
big packy
Yeah mate, we’re not capable of taking care of ordinary teams in Europe, ( AEK Athens), with our lack of any sort of ambition or financial outlay we have absolutely no chance of competing with even the half decent teams (Ajax) If only we had an Irish billionaire to give us a bit of backing HH
TIDYING UP THE BOARDROOM
2ist May. I for one hope fervently that we reach the Group Stages, Every year I have 5 wishes for my team.
Number 1 Is we win the SPFL, Number 2. We qualify for the Group Stages Champions League Number 3 We play football The Glasgow Celtic way. Number 4 We win the Scottish Cup and Number 5 we win the Diddy Cup & complete the Treble.
Any year we achieve the first 2 is a good year for me. Like most fan’s I’m a bit spoiled by recent glut of Trophies but I well remember the barren years and I know everything eventually comes to an end, but in the meantime I’m enjoying myself.
Life is very short, there is a lot of pain & hurt that will eventually face us all, sport is there to be enjoyed it is a wonderful escape from the reality of the tough times in life, I can’t understand Celtic Fans who refuse to enjoy our recent successes, everyone is entitled to their view but I for one will not be cancelling anything I will continue to support & enjoy my team and will make no apology to anyone about so doing.
21/5/79-BP
If Brendan had a fault and it could be said he had a few, going toe to toe with Europe’s best was one of them, he believed that on our game our players could compete, they quite possibly could, but they never reached anything like on their game under him when up against the best, Man Cty excepted, that game probably game him and us false hope that we could, europe under BR kinda went downhill after that, but no way should you even contemplate not playing in europe, it’s where we need to be, jeezo the best teams on the planet get spanked from time to time, teams that are playing at a far superior level to us weekly yet they still get pumped now and again, thing is, if we don’t have the money we are never gonna spend it, I know we don’t presently but there is more chance of acquiring a better standard of player when we do have a few bob..and europe is the only place we get wheans of money.
Not playing in europe is an Old Firm mindset, dismiss it immediately 😉

Noone is asking anyone to apologize for loving and supporting their team.
Same as no-one should have to apologize for not renewing.
I stated my personal reason for not renewing and you have stated yours for continuing.

My wish every year is that our club conduct themselves in a way that is honourable and decent, and in a way that supporters (past and present) would be proud of. Anything beyond that (good football, titles, trophies) is a bonus for me. But anything less than that is not acceptable for me.
Winning at all costs (or even above everything else) is a view that I always ascribed to the other side of the city. I have never understood how they could celebrate winning titles that they knew were tainted.
Given that Celtic appears to have gone along with the cheating, I feel similar about our present accomplishments.
THE EXILED TIM, you know I aint gonna disagree with you,???luv ya to bits bruv.hh.
Sarajevo players on strike. Refused to travel to training camp. Unpaid wages apparently
MiT
This is where we have a problem, the club are controlled by a PLC, so ethics are arse oot the windae on a frosty night, just not gonna happen, I saw stuff about shares earlier on cqn, Corky posted about it who owns what etc, we are beholden to the investors come what may, Res 12 showed that no matter what you supply them with if they don’t want to act they won’t, we have but one weapon, it’s obvious but again it’s withholding money from them till they concede to demands, presently they control the narrative as long as the club keep just that wee bit ahead of the huns, sad but that’s the bottom line, but like Corky and 000’s of others, I would find it very hard not to watch the team, I don’t fund them, but stopping watching them, no, I won’t cut my nose off etc, a dilemma for sure, but for me they are not the club, they are money grabbing parasites, no more than that.
FC not PLC
HH
………………………………………………
BP
Feel free to disagree mi amigo, it’s good for the soul now and again 😉
HH
Corkcelt,
I too love the club and what it stands for by virtue of its history.
Recently, there has been sufficient evidence to convince me(against my will) that the Board has very limited ambitions for the club. Either that or they cannot manage the duality of the club financially and on the park. The Board’s stance has resulted in embarrassing results in Europe against mediocre teams like Malmo, Legia Warsaw, AEK Athens and so on. While we should not always expect to beat these teams we should have a better record against them. I do not expect us to provide more than an honest effort against the elite teams like Barcelona, PSG etc but, given our resources, we could do better against the second tier European teams.
How else am I to convey my displeasure with the lack of ambition; with the poor succession planning and the selection process for a new manager, other than withdrawing my financial support? It is not easy for me to withdraw tangible support for the club that I have followed since the early sixties but I cannot fund a second rate operation that is doomed to devalue the club, ultimately.
As had been said already, I do not condemn your decision to continue to support your club, but I cannot stomach the approach of the Board in steering the club to be less than it can be.
When I say I shall not support the club that includes not using pirated feeds to view the games for free. I would not do that to the club. I am either in or out.
Rebus
TnT,
I would not place any importance on that story about discontented players. They will be wlll up for the games against us.
Rebus
Rebus
” that includes not using pirated feeds to view the games for free. I would not do that to the club.”
That is not harming the club if you watch a pirated stream, the only ones you hurt are the ones who you have a problem with, the PLC and yourself of course, think about it.
HH
Rebus
I’m sure you’re correct.
At the time of the draw I was confident about rounds 1 and 2, but I’ll admit I’m slightly concerned about this Sarajevo game, though I believe we are away from home first leg now which eases my concerns somewhat.
Am I alone in my concern?
Well Rebus, I would love to share your noble stand on pirate feeds but living in Ireland one cannot watch live Celtic games on Celtic TV. I would gladly pay to view if I could. I do have access to Sky & BT and get a lot of games there but if it ain’t on there I most certainly would watch it anywhere I can. I remember many years ago I was desperate to watch a game & couldn’t get it anywhere, I stuck my e-mail online looking for help & who came to the rescue none other than the Bold Exiled Tim. I have a soft spot for TET since.
Corkcelt
I’m not saying I dont want us playing in Europe, I think my point, which I obviously didnt put too well, was that with each passing season my feeling about getting through to CL is more one of severe trepidation and I lay the blame for that firmly with the board as they fail every year to spend the money that would at least give us a fighting chance. We didnt make it last season and instead of learning the lesson I feel we’re in a far worse position to do it this year. I’ll continue , as I always have done, to watch us home/away and hopefully in Europe but I am growing more disillusioned by our lack of ambition especially in Europe. HH
TnT
You are not alone, I said the other day that their name alone scares me, we will be going into this game with a make shift defence, that’s forward planning for you Celtic style.
HH
The Exiled Team
Absolutely no way am I saying I dont want us playing in Europe. What I dont want is a reputation in a competition that has been hard earned and well deserved being tarnished with results like 1-12 on aggregate. Would be able to handle it better if I didnt think it was possible for it to happen again. I take your point about having to get the money in to be able to spend it but tell me the last time we spent money with a thought of progressing in Europe ? Im not moaning for the sake of it here, it’s a genuine concern of mine and has been for quite some time. HH
21st Believe me I share the trepidation when we do face the big guns and often find myself hiding behind the couch. However hope springs eternal and I keep believing we can upset the odds. TET said it earlier Rodgers insisted on going toe to toe against the likes of PSG, whilst at one level I liked us having a go, the end result was usually painful. I expect Lenny to be more pragmatic in his approach, it might be more backs to the wall stuff but hopefully less hammerings. Obviously we won’t know till we get there so let’s hope we find out this year.
