Lost the pre season battle again !
I forgot to mention it last week but this is the week we lose the battle.
Traditionally the media ramp up the pressure on their preferred losers and hype up their preferred winner as much as possible the week before hostilities commence.
Its an old trick that exposes the ingrained bias that is at the core of their spiralling downwards sale’s numbers.
And true to form they have pulled out Tom Dick and Harry to verify that Celtic are indeed , once and for all officially swear to God mister, in trouble this time !
Its the battle I want to lose and look forward to losing , this phoney pre war pr game.
I only want to lose it as when the media are exposed as full of it end of season they should lose more customers thus helping end the age of the spineless hack.
I look forward to losing it as that to me just shows that the media that write this crap know nothing or are well aware is all baloney.
Those fans that do fall for it,, well there’s an old saying that has been passed down to deal with people who fall for the same trick but dont ask George Bush to recite it.
Fool me once etc does seem very apt when one looks at the annual hype up the blues week that is the 7 days pre opening Spl fixtures.
We seen Phillipe Cocu himself telling us to beware as Stevie has built a quality side.
Its wise PR to call the side that just beat you good by the way.
Katic deemed us only as good as Derby and Blackburn whom they beat and drew with respectively which means hand the trophy over now basically.
If teams as good as us cant beat them then they will win is sound logic maybe to someone somewhere but in my humble brain youve gotta actually beat the champ not those supposed as good.
Expect more of these puff piece’s telling the bears they are ready and up for it and prepare for Stevie to not let that title slip by him this time or words to that effect.
Its milking their prime demographic to the max essentially,,their last major fan base that look and support the dying print media,,whipping them into a bit of a frenzy and making sure all will be hooked and buying that rag faithfully everyday for the next unmissable may or may not be true headline.
To the average fan across the City we are too used to this now for it to actually work on scaring us but I admit they seem to have tooled up a bit and look ready to go out and try hard. Some deadweight moved and 6 new faces to drool over until proven otherwise.
The Serie A defender at a decent 3.5 million is the pick of the bunch probably might well give our wannabe rivals strength in depth regarding their back four but just buying a player from somewhere flashy is no sure sign of anything just look at Tommy Graveson.
We are also told we turned down this player ourselves which reassures a bit.
Would make much more sense for a Swede to play for us but he has dug his grave and now must lie in it.
Their strikers are still there but one year older and neither fill me with dread and I believe the golden boot will have another up and down year if he stays. His back up will be more a classic poacher than ever being less mobile with another year.
Midfield see’s new players that must hit the ground running ,,and Kent their best player last year is off.
Ultimately they are shouting and banging their chest about nothing special at all footballing wise.
The are indulging in self hype,, which is the worst form of hype.
Our own team sit with many more players that have been there seen it and done it.
Todays away game is merely a formality after a professional home performance all but sealed our spot in the next ground which will bring a better quality of player in.
Of those new players we have brought in few are needed right here and now as they have cover and will come in only when the timing is optimal.
The right back is the glaring exception probably .
News that we still seek a midfielder is quizzing as one must think Scott , Ryan , Calmac are nailed on and a new middle of the park signing for good money must start surely?
But this could be the life without Scott being planned for .We have Kouassi , Ncham , Rogic , Henderson , Luca , Bitton all there or thereabouts in the middle of the park not getting a regular game.
Anyone we buy for that area must be serious quality or he’s not needed. Quality is always wanted.
Speaking of puff pieces the Heralds piece on young Mikey Johnson today is anything but and worth ten of the usual crap pieces the Smsm seem to pump out like clockwork.
The young man sounds genuinely delighted yet grounded in the surprisingly pleasant article that isn’t great reading for domestic opposition.
He’s raring to go essentially,,,will play out of his skin when he gets a chance , and if I was Sinky after reading this I would think about a move ( real reason its out there ? ).
With Shved also on the left plus Eddy liking drifting there is a crowded area to breakthrough and make a spot your own but young Mikey has the correct mentality.
Sitting him beside Nir in the dressing room is smart also,, an old head to take him under the wing.
” Sometimes I put the tunes on ! ” sounds like a young man having fun.
Overall we are in better shape than anyone else in the land and dont be fooled by anyone telling you otherwise.
A couple of quality additions and this team is ready to roll for the season. Quality has been good soo far,,no reason to doubt thats gonna change.
Our bhoys will be rested and ready.
Ready to do all their talking out on the pitch where it really counts,,as usual.
Why not write in and tell us how excited you are for the upcoming season and we will publish it.
I’d forgotten about that Bush classic. Here it is.
Personally I CGAF about losing The Pre-Season Cup. We won The Wembley Trophy when Tony Mowbray was in charge, and that didn’t count for hellish much!
Kt is my only fear Griff is back Ryan Christie an International full back looks like Mikel lustig when Lenny signed him, didn’t turn out to bad, Mickey,Ewan another year older Bayo,Shved.Julien,bobo2 , not worried It goes Johnnie Hayes gives Bobo ,Time, That’s without french Eddie improving with another years improvement in Kris Ajer,No worries Arzani, near forgot him.HH
I’m sure Celtic will give them a chance to cement their views by fielding a weakened side tonight and coming home with a 0-0 or 1-1 .
Long night its been and gonna be a long day. No sleep as I had to drop family off at Glasgow airport at 3am.
Gotta be in Livingston at 8-30 and Irvine at 10-45.
Back in Livingston at 1pm and Edinburgh at 5pm
This retirement thing just didn’t work out as planned. ?
Did you live in Swindon for a while?
I didnae realise you were moonlighting as a taxi driver?!!
I forgot about the airport run this morning or I wouldn’t have arranged the Ayrshire meeting!
…. and the last time I checked, taxi drivers got paid ?
All quiet on the western front this fine Tuesday morn.
How can we talk about badly needed squad additions when there was a wee cash builder weekend to negotiate first.
Meanwhile, next week sees the next round of a £30M CL qualification campaign.. thank F wee made sure we had a stable defence in place.
How insane would it be to contemplate CL group stages playing second squad midfielders in your centre of defence, and without the mysteriously impossible to locate right back?
I heard there was a Swedish international RB bizarrely released a few weeks ago on a free, too..
Xfiles, Xfiles, Everywhere an XFile.
Meanwhile, on other channels, “bring on the Sevvies, so we can demonstrate that we don’t need to worry about any kind of structure in team management.”
Ole Lenny is now at page 3511 of Disco Pete’s “Managerial Role and Appraisal Booklet”, which specifies the need to test out new soccer formations. 1-3-5-1 for example. Revolutionise the approach to defending.
Defenders are not investable assets, unless you’re an also-ran Israeli team with a mutually agreeable agent.
We can NOT sign defenders because they dkbt want to play for us. This has been proven for the past few years.
And why would we want to?
We’ve proven that we can dilly dally around CL qualifiers without the useless greedy bastards in the world of football who claim to be defenders.!!
Best we invest our wealth in zillions of bucks in retainers for our glorious board. By accepting our generous, trusting investment in their time they will continue to improve our stock value, ensure we behave ourselves, and sit quietly by, while steroid raging huns and tory cocaine riddled parliamentary “linesmen” give us an entertaining season disguised as competition. On a level playing field.
All square, brother.
UberTim, It’s the only way to go. Who would want it any other way? It’s so exciting. Like you, I suspect, I love going into the CL as underdogs. Everybody loves us. Long may it continue. After all pride and ambition is sinful. Isn’t it?
Best to be humble like our board wishes us to be.
Agree with your last sentence. I’d suggest it would be better said to the higher echelons of the Bscuit Tin misers.
We’re a top world football club. It’s not wrong to ask that we invest a little bit in the playing staff to make us better able to compete.
What is wrong, is the spin out there that we can’t sign defenders, because they don’t want to play for us, in Scotland, and anyway, they’re very difficult to negotiate with. Such as Big Lustig ??
I wouldn’t laugh at anyone if they thought that this board were actively limiting our ambition to give the Sevvies a fighting chance, and keep everything “entertaining and dramatic” .
Means less fholk keeping an eye on what they themselves are up to, you see ?????
So in this case, the ambition and greed would be very wrong indeed. Actively supporting bigotry and inspiring the bigots that love all things Sevvie, so that they can guarantee their bonuse, while we still worry about kids returning home safely if they’re out in their Celtic tops for the day.
Meanwhile, they collude with the rozzers in harassing and ruining the lives of young Celtic supporters, whole doing nothing to fight against the bigots they collude with.
Makes you wonder, eh.
You wouldn’t know who to watch the most. The SFA, SPFL, EUFA, FIFA and our Board. Our board are as thick as thieves with the lot of them. It’s the only way their silence since 2012 can be explained.
Well said. Thick as thieves is nail on head.
That’s the reality the support need to wake up to.
Any advice on spec of this?
Morning troops on this quiet Tuesday.
We lose the off field battle every year.
It’s the battle I love to lose and they never get tired of winning this unimportant battle.
One day they will wake up.
Doubt it’s in my lifetime though.
David welcome on board pal. Hope you find some good chat and friends here.
Just once in my lifetime i want us to win the pre season cup
Yet we keep insisting the Blew Rhum is Bear.
They must have hunners ae them.
Top article mahe. I know they win the preseason every year but I’m concerned they may have enough this year as we have gone back to meet them. We need a quality right back and another striker as we cannot rely on just two strikers and bayo is the invisible man. I agree we don’t need another midfielder unless they are out the top drawer and if they are lawwell will be planning to move McGregor on. He would prefer to sell Ntcham but he is damaged goods now so a buyer, if they are prepared to take a chance, won’t be paying top drawer prices I would suggest. You say we are covered in the wings but we are counting arzani and shved in that equation yet we haven’t seen either of them play a competitive game. Arzani only lasted around 15 minutes before getting his serious injury so it may be too early to consider selling Sinclair. Plus An injury to Forrest and who is going to play wide right? We still need additions but they must be quality.
As for them, I haven’t seen them play but they gave us a run for our money last year and have improved so we can’t dismiss them. We should be able to absolutely dismiss them and be so far in front they wouldn’t catch us if the got guardiola in as manager. But as usual it’s our failure to strengthen from a position of strength that gives oxygen to the chat that they can topple us this year. A top class manager and 4 top level players would have finished them. AGAIN. GroundhogDayCSC
How big is the hard disk ? Could´t see it on the spec
Careful you are not running around storing everything on USB sticks. Becomes a pain in the arse bettertoi pay teh extra 50 60 quid for a few 100 GB`s of disk space
Overconfidence has damned many.
Know nothing about them but recent seasons has shown that referee’s can elevate a bottom six team to top three with ease.
A different Aberdeen and Kilmarnock are unlikely to take the same points off them as last season so we have have to be better at getting points against defensive sides especially at Celtic park.
I have the feeling that this season will make Mowbary’s honest mistake campaign seem mild in comparison.
Lets´do that again

Jim as it’s the media that hand out the pre season cup we will never win it and that suits me.
But where I sit we are looking the best equipped to retain title.
Hail Hail Sir
I think we will do the treble again. On the proviso we do not sell anyone. A new left back would be good but not a must
Just got this from WEEFRA. Unbelievable. Should have been prosecuted for hate speech. But then,he has form for that, and got away with it every time. Picaninnies, letter boxes, etc.
AFTERNOON ALL, bada just had a look at the spec, id say it was good value for the money, just had a look at the spec on my computer, power wise not far behind mine, although my processor is the intel core i7 which I need to run my music programmes.hh.
Mailed that to BADABING. In case he missed it.
How very dare you .. Big Packy has spoken 🙂
The huns took TWO points from four games against Killie last season. That’s TEN points dropped.
How many points did we win the league by?
AWE NAW, im the compuer whizz kid, learned it all from jimthetim. by the way where is he. ?
I hate computers
AWE NAW, they are great for music, but know where you are coming from.hh.
BOBBY, don’t forget take the A50 and you will avoid those nasty roadworks on the M6.hh.
I have highlighted that in the past.
Our head to head with the huns won’t be the deciding factor in the league this season.
We will have to be better against the others than in the last two seasons.
Clarke was a convenient recruit for SFA.
Huge improvement on previous diddy and his appointment weakened a team who had the huns number.
Honestly, I dont see us doing another treble.
They are remarkably hard to do, where even one bad half (or even one unlucky deflection) can be enough to derail So, even with the lack of real competition, to have done three was remarkable indeed…
particularly as, last season, we didn’t play anywhere near our best for large parts of the season.
And the longer it goes on, the more the pressure builds… and pressure is not generally condusive to great football. I think we saw that the second half of last season, particularly under NFL.
For me, a resounding success* this season would be a league and scottish cup double, along with qualification for the CL group stages. And improving our quality of football
* As always, for me, the greatest success would be for Celtic to act honestly and honourably, and cut ties (as much as possible) with the zombies and their conspirators..
BIGPACKY is the man-but nothing wrong with a second opinion.
… and I will say that, I think not winning the LC could turn out to be a blessing, as it will reduce the pressure the players must be feeling at the moment …. and allow them to play more relaxed, expansive footballl, which will stand them in better stead for the three more important aims for the rest of the season
Lenny has never done a treble. It will happen this season. He will give youth more of a chance than Brendan did. I´m confident … as long as we don’t sell Tierney, McGregor, Forrest
See,that’s you all over,Mike. Bliddy impossible to please.
You start your post with an explanation of why it is so difficult to attain a treble,so tell us why you will be perfectly happy with a mere this and that.
But you don’t half let yourself down with your final caveat…
* As always, for me, the greatest success would be for Celtic to act honestly and honourably, and cut ties (as much as possible) with the zombies and their conspirators..
I mean, blinkin’ flip,do they not have a Starbucks near you that you can at least stand outside?
Seriously,Mike, you are absolutely correct. But the truth of the last ten years-ever since the huns financial situation became desperate,we need CL income to survive-will never come out.
Dunno, mate. Lenny wasn’t a great one for promoting youth first time around. James Forrest excepted.
Good stuff Mahe, I need to rethink my next blog now 😉
I bought a Medion computer about fifteen years ago, top quality, ultra reliable imo, just installed a new operating system and it’s never lets us down.
Where does that come from re Boris ?
IMHO, it will be very hard to win the treble this year, not because they have got better, but the judiciary and the masons in the black will go all out to help them.hh.
We had no prospects then. Mikey, Ajer, Morgan have all been given a good showing under Lenny
Too many times we never scored last season. With the Griffalo back.
lets wait and see.
Youse are falling for the close season cup.
Forget Sentinel Prime …. henceforth you shall be named “Mrs. Donovan” (Charlie Brown’s teacher) …. as all I got from that was
‘wah, wah… wah…wah, wah, wah… wah … Mike you are absolutely correct … wah, wah…wah’.
Stream for tonight.
I can’t find the hesgoal stream as yet, that’s cos it’s not up yet, when I do I will post the link.
of course, as Sentinel Prime, I guess you have the power to simply change my blog name to Ginger
Can BMCUWP actually change my blog name to Ginger?
Now I’m a bit worried…
MIKE, hope seamus is smelling better. ?
Generally better, thanks…. but, it seems like every time he gets wet, the smell comes back (but, fortunately, a bit less strong each time) ….
it has been so hot here of late, so I have had the a/c on … the weeks after your dog gets sprayed by a skunk are probably not the best time to have the a/c on and the windows closed!
