He’s one of our own !

The news that our young diamond has departed us is a stiff blow but to many on here it will come as no surprise. The price and buying club might surprise some but thats about it.
He’s away and that’s that.
Kieran I thank you for all your sweat and toil on the pitch for our club and you leave with my blessings.

Once upon a time the Club that me and you love did not sell its best players believe it or not.
Infact once we had players that were prepared to force moves from bigger more glamorous leagues including the Premiership to move to us and hopefully grace those beautiful green and white hoops.
The current manager was one such case by the way.
Just imagine that again,,EPL stars threatening strikes to get a move up north !!!

Why would that happen ? Why move to an inferior league probably less money ?
I could take days writing about why but it was summed up perfectly by a truly world class player who chose not to leave but rather to stay and play because ,,,
“ We’ve got something special here ! “
How true it was and I dont just mean Henke,, we really did have something special then and he only confirmed what we all realised . Henrik was merely putting into words what we were all feeling.
For the first time in my supporting life we had went and got a top manager and backed him heavily to see where it would take us and it nearly took us to the top.
I recently seen another Irishman who was very good at his job also show what quality in the dug out and in the transfer market can achieve ,, history made and records broken.

We’ve all had whats commonly known as a “ wake up call “ in real life Im sure,,whether its a warning in work ,, bad news from the doctor,, a friend or family passing away that shake’s you hard etc etc.
They generally are not a pleasant thing to happen but can be very necessary, in fact many will tell you its what they needed actually to really get through to them and make them open to change.
If Kieran Tierney leaving his beloved Glasgow Celtic now with the ten within reach is not a wake up call to you then check yer pulse pal.

Lets look at some facts here .
He signed a 6 year deal. When to hell was the last time you heard of any footballer signing such a deal ? An extension actually . Thats an engagement ring. Youre getting hitched she said yes congrats youve found true love. Its beautiful ,,, and now just like many an old Irish story or song its beautifully tragic .
The extension itself speaks volumes. Do you think Brendan got that extension signed easily ? Its possible as its his club but I reckon Brendan sold him the dream. Gave him the speech and said kid we are gonna buy three quality players and then we march. Remember the gaffer himself was very happy for a couple years also.
Now at the time of signing ( end of October 2017 ) the club was on the rise under Brendan and our bhoy was a living breathing part of the on pitch history being made in becoming The Invicibles ! The fans were responding big time to these events and naturally being one of our own ( that means a Scottish or Irish Celtic fan and has nothing to do with religion ) from the home city he was the focus of much of the adoration the faithful poured forth .
His relationship with the Green Brigade seemed very much ,,, love ! ? ! ? Not really sure how else to describe it,,,I cant say bromance as theres ladies in the GB 😉
Seemed to feed on each other actually did those two ,, it was a powerful synergy.
So just when things couldnt be going better all around he signs the six year deal.
As a wee reward he got to wear the armband and I’ll remind you all what he said about that,,,
“That’s probably the greatest honour I have ever had: to captain Celtic, walk out and do the team talk in the huddle,” he said.
“It’s just unbelievable. I could never have imagined that and for the gaffer to have that trust in someone so young is very special for me.”

So Mr Living the Dream has bailed. Lets ask ourselves why.
Well first of all its not money. Many will point the finger in that direction but the young man was happy with the terms he was offered and we hear in real life is not money orientated and very grounded still living with the parents fair play to him.
At the time of signing he wasn’t planning on moving obviously ,, he wanted to stay and play those years clearly ,,, at the time. That tells us the money was fine.
It was not the money. Dont believe anyone tells you that.
And speaking of money how comes the millions earned at Celtic arent life changing but the millions in the Epl are ? Because theres more millions in the Epl ?
Yeah see Henrik above.
Also we can and do pay Epl wages ,, in the boardroom . Funny how the footballers cant “ earn” that privilege , you know with the entire club revolving around them. Stars of the show and all.

So why leave ? Well the fella that handed him that contract and who he has spoken highly of , Brendan , was very very good at his job as the history books will always show.
He ended up very unhappy at the internal set up and policy making that went on upstairs. So unhappy he walked . Many different people have heard about an alleged meeting after that departure with Kieran and his Captain asking whats next of Peter to be told quality replacement incoming . That was shown up by not opening the applications and grabbing a very conveniently job free Lenny.

However the simple fact remains ,, our happy diamond who was in love has left so therefore he’s not happy.
Unhappy enough to leave,,totally leave the club of his dreams with mega years still on the contract AND one big huge shining target that would be historic to capture.
Why would Kieran become so unhappy as to do that not only to himself remember but also his Celtic daft family will be seeing huge impacts here,,,uprooting for a start.
And their boy is no longer a bhoy more importantly for some reason.
And this isnt isolated as we also now know our Captain seriously entertained a move away,,,and thats with him possibly hitting legend status bring home the fabled ten.

Earlier I was writing about how we had stars fighting to come to us,, and world class players signing their peak years here as we had it all , even in whats a backwater league we can still shine very very brightly.
Thats whats possible ,, to unite fans and team and hit spectacular heights winning hearts and mind’s across the globe playing the Celtic way urged on by the faithfuls passion.

We have went from keeping and attracting stars to now they run from us.
And now our own run away.

No matter who you are and where you as a Celtic fan should be very worried at this wake up call.
My friend in Celtic , please stop and think for a moment about who or what is exactly is at the root of this something not right that is forcing our own to flee.
Its not hard to come up with answers.

Theres one very important thing needed from our current custodians who in my opinion have forgotten the responsibilities that custodianship entails especially the moral side.
That thing is Change. We need changes ,, are crying out for changes.
Those changes might just stop the next Kieran Tierney from walking out on his boyhood and dream club. Its too late now to keep that diamond but changes might just save the next one.
Change is needed , and if necessary we must force it.
Its our duty.

God Bless You Kieran Tierney. You lived the dream. You’ll Never Walk Alone!
Best wishes from the Sentinel Celts.

Ever since wee dirty proddy bastard Strachan left (who had nothing but ambition for Celtic) and had a great hamstrung record in Europe, something has stunk bad. He even got Celtic beyond the group stages into the last 16 twice. That would be a dream today. Now we can sell our best players as long as we beat the huns.
“I wasn’t going to pretend I came here as a Celtic supporter. I don’t believe in kissing badges to get your support. I didn’t know the words of ‘Fields of Athenry’…. [but] From today, I’ve become a Celtic supporter.”
Gordon Strachan (May 2009).

I believe this scum we have today would have sold Larsson

Good post, Mahe.

I’d like to see some challenge this and see how they approach it.

Awe Naw made a simple reference to this yesterday; asking why couldn’t they hold on to him.

We all have different things that jump out at us in these scenarios.

For me, it was the official statement, which is worth mentioning as an addition to your own post.

I didn’t read passed the first paragraph….the opening paragraph was enough to enrage me.

They did all they could to keep him.

Yet, the fine Celt Lennybhoy, (not shooting the messenger here !!), reported that the word was Celtic had said that Ajer wasn’t available for sale. Strong words from the PL PR branch. We dictate the terms, and will not sell players we want to keep.

Did they say that about KT?

Of course they wanted to sell him…they want that £25M, but why?? It’s certainly not for investment.

And back to my main point. How dare they throw KT under the bus, in that obnoxious way they did.

This is a board who are at worst, silent in their comment on anything, regardless of importance, and at best, limited in it.

Yet here they were from the off, “it was all him, Guv. Nuffing to do with us. But look at the great business we did. Another £25M that we won’t invest in anything. All hail the glorious spreadsheet.”

Meanwhile, everyone forgets about the £9M fee received for BR. Amazing how we bank 10s of millions because of all these “traitors”.

My my, the board PR was on overdrive yesterday. And why was it completed at the very last minute? In depth, entrenched, bargaining prowess from PL, or an agreement that the announcement be delayed for the best of both clubs?

Looks like an X-File, Mahe. Yes, another one.

Aside from that, KT leaves with my best wishes, and I’ll follow his career with keen interest. He is of course one of us. And thanks for the memories.
HH to you young mhan, and have a great career. And hopefully we’ll see you back where you belong soon .

And PS,

You’re right about the nonsense wage argument.

We paid £3M (plus add ons for Boli).

This would have kept Kieran at Celtic for another 3.5 years on a £75,000 a week salary. And kept Boli’s wages free to, er, sit in the bank doing nothing.

Is anyone going to argue that KT was offered that £75,000 a week by PL?? Or accept that PL would much rather collect the £25M ?

Then ask yourself, did they do all they could to keep him, and realise their statement for the absolute pish it is, but worse, how they threw him under the bus with that statement as well. Disgusting bastards.

And before anyone raises the next CQN pish argument about how that affects team morale, when one player earns significantly more than them, how are we different from other clubs all over the world, that all our players must earn the same? It’s the opposite,ffs- it’s a marker laid down, that, play well, you’ll be rewarded.
And yet, our CEO can earn way above his paygrade, more than even his equivalents down south, yet his fellow board members are all happy, even the Tories amongst them? And all that while they display nothing but incompetence and contempt for their customers.

It’s absolute insanity that these crooks are defended by so much of the Celtic support.

But then, this is the age of Trump and Bojo.

We have already seen the dressing room accept one player getting paid more than the rest,, see Henkes contract.

” If Roy Keane gets paid ten times more than me,, he deserves it.”.Gary Neville with the classic example..

“KTs most recent Twitter post was tone deaf and makes his heartfelt remarks to Celtic fans sound empty.”

“Have not lost a game since KT has been out injured from the team.”

” At the ripe old age of twenty-two he has already lived the dream and wants to move on. Bollocks. The money was too good too turn down. There, I’ve said it for you, Don’t sugar coat it, don’t give me the shite about the Premier league in England ”

” I watched a movie last night. Black ‘47.
There was a sequence in it about “Taking the Soup.”
If the bowl fits, slurp from it.”

The usual suspects, who won’t hear a bad word about Big Pedro, have been subtly laying into KT’s reputation all day with pish like this on the other channel. Some disgusting comments.

Tells me all I need to know.

Then they’ll quote the Daily Record, and with a brass neck that Keith Jackson would be proud of, will proudly state that anyone who disagrees with them is reading said arse wipe of a rag, and that that’s where our opinions are coming from.

You couldn’t make this pish up.

I’ve not been onto CQN since the signing was officially announced. In fact, there are a number of sites that I’ll be avoiding for a few days. Learned that when Brendan left.

I think that you are a bit harsh on celtic and disrespect to Neil managing the club as watching the team now we are fitter faster and still playing for each other I don’t think there is a big a problem or any within the club, we at celtic are a very big club in world terms compared to the arsenal fan base stadium and even the training ground is up there with the best KT left with no bad feeling within the management or higher level of staff he left because he felt as if it was now to walk away from the club he loves ????? What was wrong for him to stay another year or two he would still been 23/24 and then leave, I have read about him not even wearing a watch ect ect still going out and about with the local lads he grew up with well he just hopped on a plane signed and away he goes other players enjoy them self at celtic James he wants to stay till the end of his playing days so are you saying within your letter that James Is wrong in stating he wants to be a 1 man club as for BR what happened with him and board was he spent cash and only got a few right celtic don’t have the same cash the England leagues through sky’s ports so the board did do OK with him for players but his judgement was not always spot on and he did drop the China link himself last year but he stayed and fu***d off in middle of Feb 19 because the might of the English league pulled him down south again, I am sure the kieran will do well there and if he continues to get better then arsenal will not keep him there for the 5 and he will leave then for bigger and better then them so thank you for playing for celtic and getting paid for doing that as well, (paid very well 20/25 grand) so he was not keeping the wolf from the door that adds up to over 1million a year no bad so he was alright for cash oh another wee thing KT agent is 1 that takes you on for him to sell on not the stay at home type so the wee man knew that when he changed agents. So well done for getting the big money hope you do well will he win anything with this team I don’t think so may get into the top 4 hail hail

Welcome to the site!

We don’t post articles so that everyone can pat us on the back for saying what they were thinking. We post articles which say what WE are thinking. In fact,MAHE and I often disagree about the content of the other’s articles, and my family do too!

Feel free to voice your opinions on here, whether they be in agreement or otherwise with the main article,or just a comment from another poster. It’s what the blog is for. To give you and others a voice where they can reasonably be assured of a measured rather than insulting reaction.

Meantime, you mentioned BR’s departure. In my day,a BR departure couldn’t be guaranteed, and was always late, but here’s my take on it at the time. Let me know what you think, please. And don’t be a stranger!

You’re not missing much.. i really try to give it a by, but since indulging my opinions online again via your excellent blog here, I also find myself reading back there, and it feeds a growing discontent. It’s very uncomfortable reading.

As an aside, there might have been a slight change in the Sentinel format? I didn’t see Mag’s, or Mahe’s or your own post until I came back just now and then refreshed. No biggie ffs, but in case you’re ironing out problems, just wanted to let you all know.

Welcome here. Lovely Blog Name.
I agree we look fit and fast under one of my favourite managers. And this is a good point.

Lenny seems to be upping the pace dramatically in how we move the ball and play the game.

This is interesting and FanaTic will offer better insight if he’s inclined.

New left back and right back are playing quickly. Hatem is settling in very well. Boli is still looking nervy and playing loose balls. But that can be down to who is supposed.to be in front of him. I agree with FanaTic that Boli wasnt to blame for the goal conceded against Cluj, – a great goal ffs! – the player running behind him had lost his marker which I think was Ajer.

So we’re playing a risky game as we try to up our speed while settling in a new defence, and while awaiting new defenders.

I don’t think anyone is disrespecting Lenny, one of my favourite Celts in saying this. We need to strengthen the defence last season. Or we risk, yet again, destroying the confidence of the whole team while millions are banked by the suits and they go home laughing with their pockets lined.

Not everyone shares our love of the football, and the club. Even if others claim they do.

Sorry me auld pal.

Hopefully this will cheer you up.

A fine woman, I know you agree ?

August 9, 2019 6:59 am

Re your point earlier about VAT,it is paid by the BUYING company, not the seller. So Arsenal then. Celtic-as the selling club-will have to pay KT 10% of the fee unless they can prove that he asked to move.

That’s a long-standing football regulation, and it will be interesting to see whether they declare the sale in the accounts as being £25m or £22.5m.

Re our recent sabbaticals,I think that’s all they are. I sure hope so! Busy people, who maybe thought they were spending too much time on here, and I respect their choice and hope to hear from them again regularly if less frequently. I mean,we can’t all be on a blog all night from the comfort of driving a desk,as I was for years overnight on CQN. I was getting paid for it too!

Now I have to drive a van,and it was chucking it down last night. I bloody miss those dystopian utopian nights!

Looking forward to seeing the link on a vert fine woman!
Re the VAT, it’s irrelevant to any VAT trading company unless they are making vast profits.

If someone is trying to account for VAT in our player trades, then they need to admit that there is a profit being made and not try use VAT figures as a reason to weaken our buying figures . It’s an utter nonsense, yet unchallenged by the other channel accountant experts.

I wasnt having a go at WITS. I find his dismissal of counter opinions juvenile, so wouldn’t waste my time.

That thing is Change. We need changes ,, are crying out for changes.

“Those changes might just stop the next Kieran Tierney from walking out on his boyhood and dream club. Its too late now to keep that diamond but changes might just save the next one. Change is needed , and if necessary we must force it. Its our duty.”

The only way to force a PLC to change is by withdrawing your custom or at the very least, make the PLC think that there’s a very real chance that you will.

When Dermot Desmond brought in Brendan Rodgers, the story at the time was that he did so because of the boorish and bigoted behaviour of the Sevco directors at the Scottish Cup semi-final in 2016. Nice story but I seriously doubt that one incident was the major factor. Desmond is an unreconstructed capitalist and all his businesses will have early warning systems built in to alert him to any significant decline to future business volumes that would have a detrimental impact on the bottom line. At that time, we had the “stand of shame” and by all accounts, advance season ticket sales were nose-diving. Replacing Delia with another low-grade Lawwell puppet would not have stopped this decline so he intervened to bring in Brendan Rodgers. He did so to protect his investment and not because his nose got put out of joint at a football match.

If the Celtic support is serious (and sadly I don’t think it is) about forcing the sort of change needed to stop boyhood heroes walking away from the club then it has to re-discover the spirit of 1994 and be prepared to make sacrifices for the longer term good of the club. This season ticket book money is already banked but there are opportunities to at the very least fire a shot across the bows of the PLC. For example, the supporters groups could get together and organise a boycott of the Bet Fred cup match against Dunfermline on 17 August. This shouldn’t be too difficult to do as I don’t think they’ll be shifting too many briefs for this match anyway but it would at least give the PLC a bit of a warning that supporters are not happy with what’s going on in the boardroom.

I’m actually in Glasgow that weekend on a family visit so I’ll kick this off by declaring that I will be keeping my green pound well and truly in my pocket and not going to the match.

I think you are absolutely correct. The only way to get them out is to starve them out. Dermot saw the banners, the iconic and ironic more than just a club schtick, thought WTF?

He didn’t think-the fans need better than this, get Brendan Rodgers in!

No,he saw the empty seats.

The writing was on the wall as far back as that “Free on the season ticket” friendly a few years before when only 5000 or so turned up for a free match. Aye,that’s right. We boycotted a game that was free on our ticket. The board must have been bricking themselves.

But-and I think it’s fair to say that in my ten years on CQN and nearly a year on here, there were few bigger critics of the board-every time someone lets me know that they’re chucking their season ticket,I do my best to dissuade them. They’re doing it for the right reasons, btw. The reasons that you state in your post, the reasons that many of us are like a broken record for repeating.

And every time,I try to persuade them to renew. Not to allow their opinion of the board to destroy their love of watching the team.

I could never have a go at people who turn up every week,M6BHOY. And I could never have a go at people like you who spent most of their weekends for years on the road to hell to watch their team-only to feel short-changed and disenfranchised at the end of it.

And that’s the problem, mate. Even my happclapping Dad,who never tires of reminding us of The Famine Years, knows there is a huge disconnect between the club and a large section of the support. But there is not a damn thing we can do about it without a mass boycott of season tickets.

And if we did that, they would simply operate a razed earth policy from a position of strength-The glorious Balance Sheet-and either see us off or destroy the club.

Wur fucked, mate. It’s a disaster and there’s not a thing we can do about it without killing the thing we are trying to protect.

Leicester’s last-gasp Callum McGregor bid booted out by Celtic after Dermot Desmond ‘contacts Brendan Rodgers’
Celtic’s star player was the subject of a late bid from the Foxes but the Hoops had no interest in selling.

By Graeme Young
08:26, 9 AUG 2019UPDATED08:35, 9 AUG 2019

Celtic karate kicked out out a last-minute bid from Leicester City for Callum McGregor – according to a report.

Brendan Rodgers was desperate to reunite with his former Hoops protege and made a deadline day move but the Hoops had no interest in selling their pass master.

The Foxes were willing to pay £20million for the Scotland international as the Irishman eyed a reunion with one of his key Celtic men.

But the Premiership champions were able to stand firm after they sold left-back Kieran Tierney to Arsenal in a £25m deal and weren’t willing to part with another marquee player.

And Dermot Desmond is said to have contacted the former Hoops boss directly while sitting on the toilet, such is his love and devotion to the Hoops cause only to tell him the midfielder wasn’t for sale at any price but if he upped his price to 25 million then he would give him the year off and they can buy him next summer

Leicester did sign Belgian international Dennis Praet on deadline but it’s understood McGregor was the man Rodgers was desperate to pair alongside record signing

The Celtic star took his game to the next level under his former manager and the Daily Mail claim the player was keen to speak to the Premier League side but understood the Hoops’ transfer stance.

Leicester have the cash to splash after the £80m sale of Harry Maguire to Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Neil Lennon is eyeing eight new signings in a buy it in bulk deal after Tierney’s mega-money move to the Premier League.

He said: “We’ll look to bring another left-back in, no question.

“A right back as well. And a left winger. And a right winger. And maybe a centre forward. A wing half, a left half and a right half”

Morning troops.
Superb post Mahe, I agree that money had very little to do with things, as you say a millionaire in Scotland is a millionaire, getting the shit kicked out of you on a weekly basis would have something to do with it imo, but I think the main reason he fell out of love with the club is the man who controls everything, the same man was responsible for BR throwing his toys out of the pram, the spin will be fed to the masses who will swallow it up and as usual the board will be the good guys, it’s the same with the board rejected a bid for CalMac, aye right, bullshit, more wind and pish.

Didn’t know Laura Brannigan was dead. Only 52 when she died. What a shame. Thankfully she passed away peacefully in her sleep.

Tangled Up in Blue will be published in 10 days time. I had an advanced copy to review which can be read at https://www.sfm.scot/tangled-up-in-blue-by-stephen-odonnell-book-review/

Reading the unAWENAWed version of it,I’d say that DD was ok with the sale of KT but not of Callum.

DD is a businessman,so he will not have made that decision based on sentiment alone. It won’t be based on antipathy towards BR. It will be very simple,in his eyes.

Look,I think we might have got away with selling KT,the clickbait ruse has worked a treat, got most of the bloggers onslurp, but we would be pushing it with Callum. Let him go in January. Meanwhile, see what you can get for that champ fella.

If Tangled Up In Blue is as good as the song and the album it intro’d,I’m buying it!

Matter of fact my six cd multichanger just ran out. I can’t be bothered running after it. I’ll put on Blood On The Tracks instead. Maybe Pulse. Some Shins, who will save your life if you believe Natalie Portman. Felt,so I can remember being a teenager-though I always remember being a teenager. Just canny remember last week. Finish it off with some Morrison Hotel, maybe.

Though I heard this being played last night on Planet Rock, the Alice Cooper Show. My ears were bleeding after twenty seconds.

With respect, I don’t believe for a single nano second that DD called BR, nor do I believe BR even contemplated bidding for CalMac, esp no a few hours before the deadline, had BR wanted CalMac it would have been done way before the final few hours, just like when he left, it wasn’t a rush job, it was all planned.
It’s all bullshit, look we have managed to keep one of out best players, arnt we doing a great job, you have been around M, you know it’s bullshit, don’t fall for the hype and the spin.
