We are 1 !

So a year today our groups journey began.

It has flown in to be honest .
We didn’t really know what we were getting into and we always figured there would be help from somewhere and things would turn out okay.
We both agreed a new place was needed , and so it has proved .
I never realised how many emails we would be exchanging ,,, think speed dial or fav contacts ,,, we must be looking at a thousand or the guts of it ,, but its all been really worthwhile and it has all came together with a bit of help as hoped for.

I honestly couldn’t ask for a better bunch of posters to cyber high five ,, and initiatives such as Twists Naps with an inhouse made prize show the blog is taking on a life of its own now.
For that to happen within a year is fantastic going to all involved.
We have almost seen our dream come true of a different poster a day with 4 alternative scribes one week which I believe makes us unique in that you never know who you are going to get on any given day ,, a pleasant surprise I hope. We will hit the 6 ! ( Sundays are rest days )

The archives now have a solid year of work stacked away in there easy accessible and Im very proud of the fact that some no ones have managed to throw together what is a successful blog. No one can ever take that away from us all .
Perhaps one day we will have the strength to actually influence events and until then we call out almost daily across cyberspace for more recruits.
I think the mix of posters is a real bonus from the scientific Rebus to the analytic Fan-a-tic right down to Fairhill’s cryptic one liners with an emoji that you have no idea what its supposed to be.
The scribe , the rambler, the professional mind , the prankster , the expat , the local,,,we’ve got them all and more.
Food , dog’s , driving routes , birds , bars , music ,,, all a normal week in this joint.
Highlights include an email saying “ I swear to f#@k if Awe Naw harvested my data ,,,, “
And also interviewing Dani the Brisbane Roar player as its close to the old heart for me.
No politics and fighting is a great feat , pat yourselves on the back.
To be told you’ve got yourselves a nice community here and I feel at home is a great honour.

Finally well done Neil and the team. 4 to 1 away from home is to be congratulated . The Europa group stages it is.

Tomorrow will see a special announcement .

It will also see a quiz at 8pm Celtic Park time.
You’re the finest Sentinels I’ve ever known . Proud to be among you.
Respect and Hail Hail from Mahe.
Happy Birthday.

Happy Birthday to the blog and the ‘setter uppers’!
On last night.have to agree with ATOB re Boli… he is more one legged than Long John Silver and when he sticks his ‘good?’ One in for a tackle it is like a piece of lint.Attacking he is better and puts in decent balls but his attempts to get back to defensive duties are on a par with the speed of CCB when running for a bus to the golf!Fortunately for said CCB the driver usually waits for me unlike the attacking team for Boli!
Watch him carefully next time, which I hope won’t be Sunday, and see for yourself.Having said that he gets no cover when he does go forward which exacerbates the problem.
Not the worst draw but I always look forward to see teams I’ve not seen before which makes a grand total of one!Dont think there will be any away trips this time?

in some ways, I think 4231 has become a victim of its own success …its predecessor was the 352 whcih was favourted up until the 86 world cup, when teams started experimenting with the idea of the false nubmer 9….. (and then Lillo ran with the idea whcih became a full blown 4231 at Sociedad) …..

under the 4231, it was more of an attacking system, but players had to be a bit more versatile and adaptable under that system… but now it seems we have gone in the other direction, where players are no longer midfielders or wingers or centre forewards…

but now everyone is an ‘attacker’ … and, in some ways, while the 3 is key to the 4231 system, the two defensive mids are more important, because there are are only two of them, so they are expected to be more rounded ….

so, today, there are lots of great David Silva type of players (mid/wingers/attackers)… but not as many great Ngolo Kante types….

at Celtic, presently, there are lots of very good, and varied attacking options (RC gives dynamism through the middle, JF is good at cutting in off the wing, LM is more of an old fashioned winger…. OE is the more modern winger/striker combo….

but we dont have a great midfield anchor …. I had thought Kouassi might be that… but I haven’t seen enough to know if he could have been it or not ….

and, even when Lillo started it, his players (who were and are much more technically adept than scottish players) thought he was mad ……so, scottish players, who dont grow up with the system, are not going to know it intuitievely … … so, unless you have a coach who knows it and can teach it well, and /or bring in players who know it (partciularly for the midfield roles), you are forcing round players into square positions …..

sorry… that seemingly random post was in response to Fan/BRB’s discussion ….

BIG AUDIO DYNAMITE, welcome ?

Garry

BAD
Please tell me you are Mick Jones. ??
Welcome, whether or not. ?

Packy that’s me back in I was taking Fiat a run. He gets really annoyed if I don’t take him a run up to the Co-op. He’s due a feed tomorrow. Bugger. Another £20.

Rebus67

If we do not sign a LB today, I doubt that we shall get one at all this window. Sunday will be a dead day for negotiation as far as PL is concerned. He will not rush a negotiation which rules out Monday, so we are left with today or tomorrow. It is almost 6 pm in the UK so not much left of today.

In any case, is it reasonable to sign someone today or tomorrow and pitch them into the Sevco game one day later? Remember Bauer is also newish so going in with two new FBs would be nuts…….Yep, you are correct it could happen!

Better to play Boli and use someone like Hayes in front of him or Kouassi or……..feelings of panic!

Regarding the midfield anchor. Like yourself, I hoped Kouassi could have filled that role, but have not seen enough of him to decide. Bitton could be that man, if he developed the ability to tackle and retained concentration for the whole match, as I think he is the best passer of the ball in our squad. However, I think that the most effective player in that role could be Ajer. His game would need to change though. He would need to learn to maintain his position, curtailing his marauding runs forward, and to stay on his feet and not go to ground so readily. I feel this could be coached into him, especially as this was the role that his manager played in our team. You would think that Lenny would know who would be best for this role in the team. Broony nor Calmac are the answer. I feel it is a reason that our centre halves are so exposed at times in matches.

Troonbhoy

Congratulations on your 1st anniversary
Thoroughly enjoyed all the discussions from day one
Here’s to another wonderful year.
God Bless you all.

Ha, we have a BAD bhoy on the blog
Welcome
HH

Yip, it’s good to see that folks are coming round to the fact that the def mid is vital to our team, this is our problem, the defence would be so much more assured if we had a proper general in front of them, but we need one who knows the job, been spouting this for years, the midfield is where games are won and lost, we really need to get this sorted, neither Broonie or Calmac are def mids, Calmac isny even close to being one, and Broonie was a box to box mid, hence our problem, get one of these in, pay the going rate and watch us go, this is the missing link Pedro, sort it FFS.

big packy

JIM, nothing wrong with the old fiat punto, when I was playing drums for a living, I used to pull all the burds in a skoda Estelle the one with the engine at the back, those were the days???

big packy

THE EXILED TIM, if we paid the going rate pedro would be gone, so ffs, lets pay the going rate please???

BP
Aye, if only
HH

big packy

THE EXILED TIM, by the way did you manage to get that dog groomed, hopefully at a realistic price.hh.

Garry

TET
You would think that Lenny would identify this frailty in our team, especially considering that it was his position.

My Fiat is needing groomed. Covered in bird shit. Hope the rain does the job.

Garry
You would and he could have, but going by who we seem to be in for and who we have brought in, seemingly not.
HH

big packy

GARRY, did you see the holy goalie in the crowd at the bigotdome, god bless artur boruc.?

Garry

TET
Very strange, unless he thinks that player is currently on our books. Kouassi? Ajer? Or Bitton? Who Lenny seems to trust and rate.

big packy

JIM, don’t know if joans ever groomed a car ill ask, and it will be half price to you plus vat???

Garry
I think you have hit the nail with Bitton, Lenny rates him big time, I have no idea about Kouassi, impressed me when he played but who knows, maybes injuries.
HH

Garry

BP
Two Holy Goalies in the Polish end last night. Saint John Paul tifo and Artur Boruc capo.????

Big Audio Dynamite

Thanks for the welcome guys.

Garry, saw Mick a few times in my life, but the first time in the Barrowland will always be my favourite memory as I was standing right in front of him all night. An awesome rocking dude.

Loved the Barrowland btw and have seen some great bands there inc BAD …Anyone else seen anyone interesting?

HH

big packy

GARRY, yes I seen that tifo brilliant stuff,hh?

Garry

TET
I feel that Lenny needs to coach Nir how to be stronger and more effective in the tackle, for him to be totally effective in that role. As I said, I think that he is the best passer in the squad.

Big Audio Dynamite

I would absolutely love big Vic back.

BAD,,
I gotta good Barry White story for the Hoot.
Interesting ?
Most interesting guy I know is MiT,,,here’s some footage of him.

Garry
He does, but thee are other more glaring things that we need to coach, with all due respect to our coaches, I just don’t think they have what it takes, domesticly we should be ok cos we have better players, in europe, we need luck, decent referees and be up against coaches that arny the may west.
Fan-A-Tic kinda lays it out and imo he has it spot on.

Saw BAD in Derby and met Mick Jones after the gig. My most memorable gig at Barrowlands was the first time I saw Stiff Little Fingers. In recent years, my favourite band live have been Radiohead. Richard Ashcroft at Barrowlands last October was brilliant gig too. Obviously I have mellowed a bit in my 50s. ?

Gordon64

Last night we absolutely swept aside the Swedish champions with a superb attacking performance. If we play like that on Sunday we will win. Hh

The problem is not so much how we play, but it is how our opponents play. AIK are known as a very conservative/ counterattacking team…. for about 10 minutes at the start of each half, they pressed us, and we looked a bit nervy. However, whether it was fatigue or not, after about 10 minutes, they stopped pressing so much, and reverteed to type, and we started to look much more comfortable.

Maybe, once we scored the second, they knew the gig was up… but, I expected them to come out of their shell a bit more than they did.

that wont be the case on Sunday. The zombies will come out of the gates at 100 mph … we have to be prepared to weather their first 15 minutes, and try to take the crowd out of it. More generally, we have to sharper and smarter with our passing …. good, smart passing is how to combat a pressing game….

they will come at us, we know that …. but that will leave behind spaces that, if we are smart, we can exploit …so, our players have to match their energy … and as soon as we get the ball, we have to be moving into space to receive a pass, and mix it up with long balls to keep their backs honest ….

I can see this being a nasty game …. the huns will be baying for blood … if they get ahead, they will get in our faces , and get smarmy … and if they get behind, they will lose the plot…. it is who they are

either way, if I was a betting man, I would be betting my house on at least one red card on Sunday ….

big packy

MIKE, maybe 2 or 3 even, as you say they will be baying for blood, the only thing that keeps me thinking we will win is ffs we have the better team, but mike unfortunately they have the Scottish establishment behind them.feckin sad really.hh,bruv.

Garry

Have seen Christy live, but not at Barrowlands. Another memorable Barrowlands gig was The Pogues. Place was mental and Shane and the band responded.

BP

I think we have better players, but I am not sure we have a better team at the moment ….. we are a bit unbalanced …. front 4 looks good, but our middle gets bossed too easily (especially, when it is 2 against 3 or 4, which I think will be the case on Sunday), and our defence is ever changing …. as I was saying earlier, it is easy to set up as a 4231, but it is not an easy system to play well at the best of times, and right now we are missing a key player or two that we need to make that system work …. their system is perhaps a bit simpler, but they seem to understand their roles in it a bit better …..but if

if it is a game of two teams playing at their best, we win …. but if our grasp exceeds our reach by too much, it could work against us…

if it becomes less about skill, their system and energy may tip it in their favour

MIKE, you haven’t mentioned seamus lately hope he is ok, our 4 are doing my nut in,ffs im 66 and still walking 4 dogs every day, at least it keeps me fit ???

The Schumann Resonance

On Sunday should we sit in and play on the counter in the 1st half? Use their foaming at the mouth crowd against them. With the pressure from the crowd on them to go forward we could pick them off with pace into the empty spaces.

Question is are we capable of playing compact, counter attack football with these players?

mike in toronto

BP

Seamus is great…. as one would expect from the most interesting dog in the world … but, that is to be expected as he belongs to the most interesting man in the world (at least, according to our host…. and it would be rude to disagree with my host …)

The day after the Hoot is now the game.Hoot Saturday Killie Sunday . Decisions decisions.

Gordon64

TSR Absolutely agree with your analysis on the best way to approach the game IF we had a settled experienced back four. However as we have a very ropey defence those tactics could be suicidal. It’s got to be attack or die for me. Hh
