The Faithful flock to Rome

Tonight see’s the Champions foray once again into uncharted territory and you can throw hostile in there also for good measure.
Mussolini’s eleven and their following will host the good guys , and the Italians find themselves in good form occupying 4th spot in Serie A currently.
This makes our recent victory over them all the more impressive and also makes a dollop of revenge likely.

Victory for the Roman’s will not see them above us in the group table which they wont like , although a good away victory at MIlan with the star striker hitting the target is a perfect warm up match for them. Victory for the Hoop’s would seal a spot in the next round ,but no more incentive is needed than shutting up yer woman and her cronies plus blazing on past the fascists on the pitch to their horror and no little shock I imagine.

However with odds of 17/4 for an away win at the time of writing such a victory would be asking a lot of the footballing God’s , though there are some local to the vicinity. We have never won in Italy , that says a lot , although all records are there only to be smashed.
Its a balmy evening in Rome with a predicted 13 degrees a lot easier for fans and players than the 4 the home stadium will be shivering in.
We will also see a partial stadium closure and a serious army of travelling support , green and white will dominate the arena it looks like which should give the team heart .

On the injury front we have Tam out but of much more import is the news Bolingoli will miss out which leaves the gaffer a big quandary and my money is on Johnny Hayes to get the nod.
The Dub simply has more minutes under the belt with the team and more experience in general so Taylor shouldn’t feel aggrieved and theres a good chance he will come on at some stage actually seeing as how our wing back’s operate.
Griff and Mikey Johnston didnt travel and young Frimpong is not in the squad and will hopefully be relaxing those legs ahead of a more than likely return to action on Sunday against a punching above their weight Motherwell team sitting pretty in third.

On the Italians though I twisted our Venician and occasional contributor Beppe to check the rags from there and update us. Heres what he reports they say,,,

“ Lazio, Inzaghi: “With Celtic we can only go for one result. We need to win” The biancoceleste (white and blue) coach presents tomorrow’s challenge: “I would like to see the same effort and attitude of the first leg but with a different result”

Today is an important day for Lazio. The Biancocelesti are preparing to face Celtic in a clash which will be fought in the pitch and likely and unfortunately also outside the Olimpico Stadium. A crucial game to secure a move to the next round. Lazio path was complicated by the negative results obtained in the first leg. Simone Inzaghi knows it well, and made it clear during the press conference. “Tomorrow we have only one result, we absolutely must win. We have this in mind, we have to move up the table, but it won’t be easy, Celtic is a great team, physically and with quality players “.

Lazio will still have to deal with a number of crucial players missing through injury: “I don’t have a precise idea yet. We just played three close matches and this added to our problems, surely there will be no Radu, Marusic and Cataldi who is suspended. We have some problems with Correa, Caicedo and Leiva, they are to be evaluated. Caicedo took a blow to the shoulder, we feared a more serious injury, there are no fractures but a large hematoma. Correa got a fortuitous blow in training, Leiva ended up fatigued at San Siro. On Immobile and Lulic I am confident. We’ll keep the other three under observation between today and tomorrow. “

At Celtic Park Lazio made a splendid start, losing only in the final part of the game after having wasted many chances. “I would like the same attitude, but with a different result. It was a great game, but you can’t afford certain mistakes at certain levels. Celtic is used to certain European matches. It was a game played at an excellent level, fast and physical. The episodes were decisive, if Correa had scored (he had a clear chance) it might have been another result. We have to be good to make sure this time the episodes will go in our favour “. Some words on the fans:” I hope it’s a beautiful day of sport, that the best team can win, hoping it’s Lazio. Many Celtic fans will arrive, the North Sector will be closed but the Lazio fans will still be in great numbers. We hope to win”

Well you can hope son , and they say thats what kill’s you by the way.
Thanks Beppe.

Some of the off field issues the traveling support are facing at the moment such as a liquor ban and wear no colours instructions from the club are not only sinister but make me question who’s the puppetmaster here making police forces paranoid of us.
If our own house where in order it would be imperative to hunt down the source or sources of all this extra policing and bad reputation that is clearly preceding us as we travel the continent. No chance our current lot rocking any boat or taking any unprofitable actions which make’s us ripe for the plucking and a silent victim after the fact. Both make my blood boil.
I only hope and pray that we are discussing only football issues for the next few days. Many good folk have went with zero malice in their hearts and wish only for a great time in that city among the crowd.
Bring yerselves home safe with happy memories no matter the score.
Youre all far more important than three points.

Prediction,,, We are on a roll , playing fine , and full of confidence . The team will respond to the faithful’s urging and give it their all. They just dont wanna get beat at home and are more excited at their domestic position , with 4th spot seen as the bigger prize. As such the smart money is on the draw.
Honours even. A great result.

COME ON YOU BHOY’S IN GREEN !!!

God I hate Italian football.
It’s teams, it’s supporters, it’s dictators and popes.
I hope all Tims stay safe in that coliseum of ignorance.
Not to worry I’m sure the PLC will give a helping hand to anyone who gets in any bother in Italy just like they do back home. God luvvem.

If the ref is fair tonight we have a chance. Many Celtic defeats over my lifetime to Italian opposition has been down to biased refs. Remember Celtic are sacrificial lambs on the UEFA altar of corruption

If Celtic concede in the first half first then I’ll take a draw.

Although to be honest I’ve always been interested in Italian football. A kind of fascistnation.

It would be interesting were someone to get their hands on the info supplied to the host police force by ours re the reputation of our support.

It is way too much of a coincidence that we are being treated the same way everywhere we go. Maybe someone can bring the subject up at the AGM.

As for the stabbing(s) last night, the SMSM will have a field day. Victim blaming,as usual.

Yet always so strangely quiet when the south side thugs go on the rampage at home or abroad.

BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS

Re Frimpong. I think it’s obvious that he is a big part of NL’s immediate plans. He won’t be playing every week,it would be unfair on him,but he will be playing regularly.

And that includes in Europe,if we are still in it after Christmas. So IMO he should be out there with the squad, training with them, getting used to how they play. After all,it’s only six weeks since he made his debut,he needs as much time as possible to familiarise how his colleagues play.

BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS

I’ve recently noticed a poster on CQN accusing John James of plagiarism, suggesting that he based one of his recent articles on the one in Forbes Magazine. The one where the hun accounts got the roasting they deserve.

Can someone put him out of his misery, please? Tell him that after JJ reprinted the article in blue type,he accredited it thus…

“The article in italic typeface was published in Forbes Magazine. The author is Mike Meehall Wood. Other than adding bold text and removing the hyperlinks to other sites, I have retained the integrity of this excellent article.”

No plagiarism there, simply bringing it to an audience who might otherwise have missed it.

Ave Ave,

You need to have a closer look at the JJ article.

He provides a copy and paste of the Forbes article – in an italic blue font.

At the start of his own article he explains that he has done this – removing only links etc.

Absolutely no faith in the Italian police,to protect our support, or catch the arseholes who stab innocent people, the opposite in fact.

Bada, you would think the Irish bars in the city would have been obvious places for the police to have a presence around? They had their faces covered so no doubt that will reduce the chances of them being caught.

bada bing1

JTT- And you would have thought, Police Scotland would have done the same, when Ajax and Hamburg casuals ran omok in the Gallowgate, assisted by huns,no arrests.

Yes there’s no excuses, it’s all too predictable.

from last night
thanks for the response on Italian players playing in Scotland. A quick google showed that the list of players in EPL is similar to Spanish or German but they don’t stay as long. Apart form the flurry of players at Dundee when in italian ownership and for a while at Rangers; Scotland seems to have no attraction! The list for French is by far the biggest

Anyhoo, i’ll leave that subject there

would love a 1-1 tonight but i have a feeling in ma watter that we will get turned over 0-2 or 0-3. Not because i am negative by nature but i thought Lazio were technically and tactically excellent at CP and could have won that on another day. I loved our guts to get the win but i enjoyed watching them too

keep it tight in the channels (Ajer and Julienne need to be closer) and don’t let Lucas dictate

As usual, Mags hits the nail on the head.

We will go into this game, all guns blazing and fired up and worthy of progression.

But this is always when strange refereeing undoes us, especially against Italian teams

My skin still crawls at the mere mention of Juventus. I hate them more than the Deid Co.

On the other hand, this is Lazio. Maybe they aren’t as adept at cheating as other clubs, and are content to be also rans.

They should employ our board.

We have the edge on passion – but we all know, it can be killed off by the inevitable smell of corrupt pish from UEFA HQ.

Police Scotland are up to their masonic necks in this.
A support who won a UEFA award for good behavior are suddenly treated like an invading army on foreign soil despite no history of violence.
Coupled with the best wee countries police marching step by step with notorious Dutch hooligans and Italian fascists and not managing to spot a single offense.
Something is rotten.

You lost me at “if the ref is fair”
It’s a UEFA competition so corruption is standard.
Advertising’s filthy lucre is king.

A thing of beauty

Bada
Whilst I appreciate that you may have a point regarding what our police are passing on about our support I think we also have to realise that when we garnered our reputation as the greatest fans in the world there was still a huge element of self policing going on within our support. I would suggest this is no longer the case and there is an increasing number of people who follow our club at home and abroad whose behaviour is embarrassing. Whether that is criminal and worthy of the policing they receive is another argument but I’m sure you’ve seen the advent of “green Huns” yourself in the last few years. Very saddening

fan-a-tic

ATOB
That may be the case.
All supports unfortunately have an element of undesirables.
But ask yourself why the overseas police forces already have an entrenched view that does not fit our supports oversea’s history/behavior?

Mahe

Atob, ,
What are the undesirables/green huns doing that’s so bad ?
As far as I read its snorting and pyro, and join the Ira songs.
Hardly enough to demonize them or claim our good rep has been lost to them no?
They aren’t violent which is the main thing.

A blind man could tell this had serious potential of clashes. Shoulda been far more organised.
Fanatic is correct imo,, the Masonic police Scotland has their grubby fingers all over this.
Scum.

ATOB- Had the same chat with pals last week, self policing was always the way, these days a wee prk would pull a knife, a pal was in Turkey last year and said a wee bunch of fannies called the SMV were worse than huns….caused bother in every bar, restaurant or shop they were in.

I will be logging off at kickoff with the aim of avoiding score until can watch in peace when missus comes home. It works out sometimes, most times not. Can avoid the websites, its texts that get me.
Anyway, you enjoy game. Im gonna try and do lots chores to keep occupied.

I would suggest it’s been a long time since either of you attended a game, especially an away game. I have in recent years had alterations with Celtic supporters singing about the ibrox disaster, been in toilets where people were openly snorting drugs, have been seriously verbally abused in my own seat at parkhead after asking a group of people to sit down as my then 75 year old dad could not see nor could he stand for 90 minutes. This in the end resulted in one of them dropping his trousers and showing us his arse whilst his pals fired a verbal volley of abuse.
On Saturday I just missed getting spewed on by a guy who never broke stride as he projectile vomited all over the place with no regard for anyone. That’s before I start on the IRA songs in cities that have suffered from the effects of the mainland bombing campaign.
This romantic notion that the celtic support is only there for the craic and are all loveable rogues is utter pish. I suggest you both remove the green tinted specs and ear muffs and really observe what a lot our support is up to these days.

OnlyÜberTimtoBeOutnawedAndRenameD

Mahe,

Geez yer mobile number so I can avoid sending you live match updates ?

CaltonTongues

Seen some discussion re violence in Valencia.
I was there in 2001, great performance (lost 1-0). Had a great day, everything was fine until the final whistle. At that time the away support had to stay back for 40 minutes to let home fans disperse. Certain ‘pricks’ in our support started screaming ETA IRA repeatedly to the two polis standing down the stairs at the closed doors cause they couldn’t get out. Now, If I was Spanish plod this would seem intimidating. They moved behind the doors then, after a couple of minutes, the doors opened, lights were out and it was a battle all the way down the stairs baton’s raised – Men, Women and Kids indiscriminately whacked.
You can bet the ‘pricks’ never got hit.
That’s how you get a rep in certain cities.

Auldheid

Damage limitation for me tonight on and off the park.

Interesting contribution to the lack of governance debate here.

It’s all so obvious now looking back so why is a sham being allowed to continue to stigmatise Scottish football?

Whose interests is it really in to sustain a myth at the expense of whatever future Scottish football has?

Auldheid,

If that’s the thoughts of ‘other team’s fans’ then I might have to Bhoycott away games as well as Celtic Park.

Atob, ,
I was asking the question what are they up to not saying aye right they aren’t that bad. And you’ve just answered it and now I know. Cheers.
Now I agree btw.
A strong Csa would sort this out. Really take charge of tickets and have a send in footage of bad behaviour we ban em policy.

Mahe,
Glad we have not fell out. I think it’s really important as a support we face up to the reality of our support. It is not everybody, course not but as bada, Calton tongues And myself have stated it is a worrying trend.
As for a strong CSA, I dont think that’s ever going to happen. There is certainly scant evidence of our CSA being vocal on any matter in recent years.

Neil Lennon seems to have a mental block when it comes to left back

Play a left back at left back!!!!

I’ve seen previous managers do this when we only had a youngster in a particular position but I argued against it then and Tayler is experienced

Crazy decision

When he buys a new putter and is going to play against someone 10 shots better handicap; does he use a 1 iron instead because it’s a great 1 iron which never lets him down as a 1 iron and leave the new putter in the bag?

PS if someone tells me Tayler is carrying an injury; kindly disregard the above?
