Days of Future Past.

Morning,all.

That Was The Week That Was,eh? It is not always easy being a Celtic supporter, but it is always worthwhile. Those were the words spoken by Fergus McCann over two decades ago. We always hoped he had a plan for the future, but few of us foresaw a week like last week.

Famously,George Best was lying beside the current Miss World in a rather plush London hotel when he ordered room service. Now,the room service may have been champagne, the Miss World may have been Mary Stavin or it may have been Marjorie Wallace, but the story is always the same. That the waiter arrived with breakfast, looked at his famous guest and his partner, goggled at the splurge of banknotes lying all around the room-for George had won around £50k in a casino the night before-and asked the simple but legendary question…

“George, where did it all go wrong?”

And so it is for Celtic supporters these days. And possibly for the board too. For there can be little doubt that we have rarely had it so good, although that depends on which side of the fence you are viewing it from. As a business,we have record amounts of cash in the bank,a squad which has never been worth more in cash terms, turnover in the last two seasons of approaching £200m. We have investors falling over themselves to join the gravy train whether that be boiler room scam artists or the hard-nosed sharpies at Lindsell Train-no pun intended-who currently own around 20% of a company that they clearly believe in.

I think that it is fair to say that Celtic Plc is regarded as a well run company with a clearly defined modus operandi and a plan for its direction in the future. But like every business with one core product,it is highly leveraged towards the continuing success of the business plan.

And of public sentiment towards it.

You might remember that around the same time that Fergus was changing everything at Celtic Park,Coca Cola, another business with one core product-though highly diversified since-decided that it needed to change the recipe in order to propel it still further. And that is what it did-it literally changed the recipe! Now,nobody can deny that New Formula Coke was a success-after all,it still was clearly outstripping the competition in terms of sales. But it is nevertheless regarded as a signature tale of corporate failure. And of hubris, one of taking your demographic for granted.

Much like the Labour Party in Scotland, though that is a tale for another day…

Coca Cola customers, faithful through and through, demanded a change. They wanted the old days back, they didn’t like this taste of the future and they certainly didn’t like the aftertaste of New Formula Coca Cola. They got their way too,by mobilising the tools then available to them. Public opinion via the media,a united front,a mass boycott. Not big enough to significantly damage sales in the short term, but the company wasn’t prepared to take the risk of the medium term turning out to be worse. Nor was it prepared to accept being front page news for all the wrong reasons. Personally,I thought it tasted great, but it just wasn’t Coca Cola. But then, what could I do about it? I didn’t like its competitors at all,so I was stuck with it.

So,back to Celtic Plc. And its one core product. It too has a customer base which is faithful through and through, and which doesn’t like the competition. And it too seems hell-bent on a New Formula, one which discards the past in favour of its plans for the future. Like Coca Cola, those plans are bringing a success which its competitors can only dream of. Nine successive trophies and a treble treble, another Cup Final next week,a tremendous European run with some notable scalps on the way. Record income and profits and…

A mightily pissed off customer base which isn’t impressed by any of that. That’s us,that is. That’s us,that is,oh yes. Never had it so good, don’t know when we’re born, don’t you remember the Famine Years,or what happened when yon deid club, yada yada…

Celtic Plc has one core product. It is called Celtic FC and the people who support the Plc by buying that product are a fractured and unhappy lot. And one with,it seems, nowhere else to go. For the board of Celtic Plc are employing the time-honoured strategy of divide and rule,in this case by having a go at everyone to the extent that each complaining faction can only concentrate on their own problems-instead of looking at the bigger picture, one where a united front might bring success. To me,it seems that the Plc-in particular, the public front of Bankier and Lawwel-are running the strong possibility of whipping up a perfect storm of opposition through their attack on so many fronts at the same time. They tell us to behave ourselves, that they don’t think that it is in the interests of the club to right an 8yo wrong, that our best supporters are an embarrassment who have cost us the equivalent of a player-or two month’s bonus to PL-that the snipers in the blogosphere Timternet are but a bunch of ingrates who know nothing. Surely it is time for all of the disaffected to unite behind one banner? None can do it alone, that’s for sure. But if we can get the backing of the older crew via the resolutioners, the younger crew via The Green Brigade, the social media via the bloggers, all that the board have left in their favour is the despised MSM and a few other lickspittles. Each has tried in their own way over the years to take the battle to The Man,and each, though confident in their search for justice, has been batted away.

It is time for change. If history has proven anything to us,it is that the rebels CAN win. And win,we must. Or our club is gone forever, replaced by a soulless New Formula with no interest in our past, only in a future driven by a fast buck.

IMO,the huns financial status is no secret. Certainly more widely known than in 2011. But then, they got a licence last year and this,so obviously they have an exemption.

As for the game today, great three points, hard fought well deserved.
A wee bit worried about Eddy tho, hopefully we get a LB and him fit for next week.

It’s not just the Board, my best pal over here who is a dyed in the wool Celtic Supporter for many years, is adamant that if Celtic were that far ahead that they were walking the League every year he would stop watching Scottish Football.
He relishes a tight race where every week the stakes are high and it’s cut & thrust up to the last week-end.
Even if we were pipped in the end for the Title he would see that as a hugely entertaining season.& would really be looking forward to the following year & getting our Title back.
Whilst he never wants to see Celtic lose, Cups & Trophies don’t mean that much to him, it’s the football & highly charged exciting games that he craves.
Now his view might be extreme but there are many fans who would get bored if we didn’t have a credible challenge every year.
Now none of that excuses the Board, their job is to stand up for Celtic & to ensure we are not shafted by Officialdom or biased Referees.
There is little doubt that they have a huge case to answer relating their handling of Res 12.
My read is they have figured even if they pursue it to a successful conclusion it would be a Pyrrhic Victory, we wouldn’t gain a penny would probably piss off a lot of powerful people and in the long run could be the losers.
Obviously the Fans have a different set of values and thus we have the present painful stand off.
Even though some might not see it in my Posts, I do support the Res 12 Bhoys & look forward to making a Financial Contribution if crowd funding is needed to bring it to next stage.
Where I fall out with many Posters on this site is I totally distinguish the Team from the Board.
My anger & frustration with the Board would never affect my passion & support of the team.
I have read some Posters here who said they wouldn’t even watch Celtic playing on a Free Stream because of the alienation they feel with the Board.
When I read that type of stuff, I just know there is no point in debating as I’m on a totally different plain, so I save everyone the hassle & just head for the hills.

“SFTB respond please Uber Tim needing Awe Naw Approval”

I am just back on from making my 4.41 post in reply to Mags McGill and I find this waiting for me. I have little idea where to start when it comes to understanding what you are getting at? Maybe, I don’t need to bother cos a whole lot of interpretation and insult has been put out there already.

So, if this is in reference to my 4.41 post, all that means is

1) Mags made a joke on the BBC link I provided

2) I replied saying that I set up the joke…… and he put it away.

It had the square root of bugger all to do with Res. 12. It made no reference to Paul 67 and, as far as I can see on this page it had not drawn a reply from either Uber Tim or Awe Naw.

If it’s not to do with my 4.41 post then gonna give us a clue as to WTF you are referencing.

I believe a cleaner game would give other teams a chance to improve and bring along youth.
At present they know they have more chance of taking points off us because of refs tolerance to their brutality.
Against huns they have to resort to a finesse style as refs will punish them for even the slightest physical challenge.
It’s hard to develop a playing style and youth with such variances.
Also your post about people on here who wouldn’t watch Celtic on a free stream because of board alienation?
I only recall one guy saying he wouldn’t watch on a free stream because he would feel guilty of depriving club of income. He was saying it because he had a conscience.
I decided not to renew Celtic tv this year because i couldn’t in good conscience give money to the present board.
I tolerated years of a horrible service due to my support of the team.
Their treatment left me in no doubt that i was a captive customer who should just accept whatever shoddy Service they provided.
It constantly lost sound and picture and their customer service response usually was a lame apology 3 days later.

fan-a-tic, I don’t disagree that we are up against it with Refs and that other teams might feel they will get way with more aggression against us than against the Huns, but all that stuff just fuels my passion for the team, I get twice as much pleasure when we triumph despite what they throw at us. By the way if your Celtic TV service was unsatisfactory you were correct in cancelling it.
Generally this year it has been good, I’m not sure if it has anything to do with the quality of the Broadband or what.
I can understand Fans making a decision to not Finance the Board , but I have seen posts here of people choosing not to watch Celtic even though by so doing there would not have been an extra penny going to the Board,
Anyhow I’m off to my leaba now but thanks for the polite reply.

Believe it or not,SFTB is no board lackey. I’ve met him many times and he is as sick of their chicanery as the rest of us. He does not, however, see things in black and white, and is greatly inclined to mull things over and examine both sides of an argument.

Now,we ALL do that, but SFTB is happy to show his workings in public, while others simply examine the evidence and post their thoughts based on that.

Now,I read UBER’s comments about SFTB very soon after he wrote them, and I could see where he was coming from. And had SFTB been around at the time-6am on a Saturday mornin!-he would probably have replied then. But there is little point in replying to a comment made about 36 hours earlier. That’s just taking over the coals.

Anyway, hope the Dimple was pleasant. Haven’t had that in years. Gonna have to have a clearout of my drinks cupboard shortly, too many bottles started and not finished which are cluttering up the place. Including a rather expensive gin which is nearly old enough to chat up…

An aspect lost in the complexity is that the period that caused the JPDT has according to TRFC been removed from scrutiny without explanation.

When asked to establish the reason in May 2018 Celtic refused, requiring a letter from our legal agent at cost of £2000 to SFA attaching evidence that challenged the TRFC statement as follows:

And the club said in a statement: “The Rangers Football Club (“the Club”) was informed today by the Scottish FA (“SFA”) that, after an eight-and-a-half month investigation, the SFA will not be proceeding with a Notice of Complaint in respect of the submission made by the Club to the SFA at the end of March 2011 with regard to the issue of the Club’s Uefa licence for the following season.

“The club is unsurprised that it has now finally been accepted by the SFA that the accusations made against the club were groundless. The club questions whether the time, cost and expense of this investigation was justified and was a good use of the SFA’s limited resources.

“Disappointingly, and presumably rather than accept that the investigation was a waste of all parties’ time and resources, the club has been served with a new revised Notice of Complaint relating to the monitoring period subsequent to the grant of the Uefa licence. This new Notice of Complaint neglects to properly capture the provisions of prior agreements made between the Club and the SFA.

“The club will fiercely resist this reconstructed Notice of Complaint. Unfortunately, monies that should be available to Scottish youth and grassroots football will be diverted into another rehearsal of seven-year-old debates on the rights and wrongs of events that the SFA should have prevented at a time when doing so would have served a useful purpose.

“It seems that Scottish Football is, once again, being directed by individuals intent on harming the Scottish game, Rangers Football Club and its supporters by pursuing a course that has no sensible purpose or reasonable prospect of success.”

Celtic took no action which perhaps means they agreed accusations were groundless but never explained why to us and they agree with the view their shareholders are running with the issue with intent of harming the game.

It was two weeks after delivery of hard evidence to SFA that the JPDT decided the matter had to go to CAS and it all ground to a halt. Coincidence?

The case being readied challenges the view no deception when licence granted and even if it wasnt uncovered until the next season and sanction applied to RFC then, Celtic would have every right to seek compensation from RFC in liquidation or SFA if deception involved and they were involved.

So why blockage from 2013?
