Celtic 2-0 Hibs Review.

Morning, all. Back to normal today with a review of yesterday’s match.

******

Hibs were a very decent work out for us today, and fair play to Jack Ross, he didn’t have them kicking the crap out of us either There were moments, mind you,but when it’s in a players DNA that they can foul us with impunity it’s a given that they will now and again.

Lenny went with a different set up today-three at the back with Jullien, Ajer and Biton, Frimpong and Boli as wing backs, as ever Broonie and Calmac, Forrest, Ntcham & Eddie. A very attacking line up and for the most part we were on top. After some great build up down the left the ball came to Ntcham and I was ready to jump out of my seat but he missed what I deemed a sitter. A couple of minutes later a mix up in the defence gave Hibs a chance. Sometimes Boli tries to hard in my opinion-he does the hard bit then gives the ball away far too easily, and his positioning at times also leave a lot to be desired, but there are those on the park who should be talking to him about this.

What a difference a top top players makes to the team! To get class you have to pay for it-take note Pedro-and Eddie is class. His movement and awareness is superb for a wean. Most strikers would have taken a pop at goal but Eddie saw the young Frimpong in space on the edge of the box and gave him the ball. The young fella didn’t make any mistake and buried it. Nothing more than our play deserved,1-0 at half time but we could and should have had another couple with any luck.

Start of the second half Forrest and Calmac combined well on a couple of occasions, but the Hibs defence were crowding us out. 55 minutes young Frimpong again terrorised the Hibs defence and put in a world class ball to Eddie who skied it over the bar when it looked easier to score. For the next five minutes Hibs put us under a wee bit of pressure but we held firm-it was our own doing as we kept giving the ball away when it was easier to keep it. On the hour we broke and Scott Allan took Broonie out. We were in the clear, yet brother Beaton decided to stop the play and have a word-he should have booked him but that would have hampered him so all he got was a talking to. A shocking decision after stopping the play.

We kept probing and looking for that killer pass. Hibs were defending well, but after 65 minutes they had no answer to some superb close inter passing. The ball to Eddie from Forrest at the back post was a peach and the goal was even peachier!

It was to be his last action as he was replaced by the Griff just after that. After another great footballing move involving most of the midfield Ntcham played the ball to Forrest who should have scored but his shot was deflected for a corner.

We are still pish at corners btw.

We kept pressing forward and were in complete control but on the 80th minute Horgan put the ball in and big Jullien headed the ball towards our goal and it looked in all the way. Unbelievably big Fraser got a hand to it and kept it out! On 83 minutes Mallan was booked for a cynical foul on Ajer and Forrest was replaced by the Wizard of Oz. In the 85th minute, another great passage of play by Frimpong when he stuck the ball into the box and the Griff headed it when he should have left it for Rogic who looked in a far better position but you can’t blame the Griff for that. A minute later Calmac put Boli through in the box and his touch again let him down. A couple of minutes later a super ball from Broonie to the Griff who spun and his shot went just wide.

All in all a very very decent display.

The stadium MoM was Frimpong and it’s hard to argue with that, but a very close second in my opinion were Ntcham and CalMac.

The day that the powers that be in Scotland ban Orange walks from it’s streets will be the day that Scotland starts to heal.

Thanks for the article, mate. I’ve just been watching the highlights on Sportscene. Tell ye,they didn’t show much. I certainly would have struggled to do an article from them, and as you know,I can’t even watch it on a stream anymore.

Delighted to see the Griff getting game time. Might have been happier if they’d shown even a glimpse of him.

Big Audio Dynamite

Funny how we all see things differently.

Me and the wee man watched Ntcham closely yesterday, and were talking about him the whole game, he is totally lily-livered. Numerous times he failed to track runners, pulled out of tackles, and generally looks like he’d rather be anywhere else but here.

I love anyone who pulls on that Hooped top, but I’d much rather have a Roy Aitken type Tic player.

Big Audio Dynamite

Our tickets were nearly £50 yesterday. On top of all the other things putting you off attending, that is f@cking shocking! Oh, and we both had a restricted view (I couldn’t see the Celtic end goal).

Our custodians appear to not give a shit about fan experience. I love Celtic with every fibre of my being, but I am fast falling out of love with football.

HH

A thing of beauty

BAD,
I agree that£50 is far too much for a dad and son to pay for a run of the mill league game. The board got it right this time with the euro pricing but only because they were shit scared after we’d fell out the champs lge. It’ll be interesting to see who we draw and what the price is for the next round. It is only a last 32 tie and anything above £30 is too much in my book.
TET, thanks for your match report. I missed the game yesterday as my exile in oz continues into its 3rd week. I got a picture from a friend of them and my family in the pub pre match and was sooo jealous. When Celtic play at home I need to be there. It’s the main reason we chose to stay in Scotland and not oz. silly choice in many respects but family and football go hand in hand in my life and living here just wouldn’t be the same.
Well done to the team on getting another 3 points and well done to my sister on calling the first goal scorer at 28/1. Oh my days!! I wouldn’t have played him if el hamed was fit so what do I know. Also, I see the lesser spotted rogic got a run out yesterday. Is that one for Jimmy Not Paul and his daughter to add to their list. Honestly this man is getting paid about £500k an hour these days. What is wrong with him? I see he didn’t travel to Cluj. Why? If anyone needed game time it’s him. He had a hand injury in January and has played about 200 minutes all up since. I love the big fella but he’s made of glass. We can’t carry passengers like that.

Big Audio Dynamite

Bobby, there are better highlights on youtube.

Tried to explain to the wee man why there is a Parks of Hamilton bus sitting in our car park . He looked at me as if I was making it up!

Libero

TET – we were on top but sure didn’t have it all our own way. For all our possession, I wonder if our goals-to-attempts ratio has been analysed; we missed, what, five ‘sitters’ and a few coulda-gone-ins which kept the contest tighter than it shoulda been.
In addition to wee Jerry, shout-outs to Broony, Nir and big Kris Ajer again (Kris’s penalty box slider was a thing of wonder).
BAD; Olli was on the ball a lot, without dictating his terms or creating too much special. He’s no chicken, but defo a cautious contestant indeed. I thought there wasnt much between him and Scott Allan on the other side (tho Broon had Allan’s measure).
Jamesy F bustled about but to little avail; we could rest him v Hearts (for Mikey) then see who’s the best bet for the Dons visit.
ATOB; you could always start following Western Utd (they do play in green and have Scott McDonald after all 😉

Big Audio Dynamite

Libero

I just watched the highlights and he did have the ball more than I realised, it’s when he doesn’t have the ball you see a real lack of heart.

Big Audio Dynamite

ATOB

No matter what they decide to charge us for a last 32 tie, it won’t make me half as angry as having to pay £49 to see us play an 8yo club.

Hope you’re getting a Christmas suntan ?

BAD,
No suntan. Just the usual go red go white go red go white…….

Bearing in mind you said that you started off blue, that’s not a good combination!

Good to see you back at yer acerbic best this morning. That’ll be you back in training for home,I presume. Good shout from our sis wi the first goal yesterday-the wee fella hasn’t been shy at trying for goal in his previous outings.

BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS

BIGAUDIODYNAMITE

£50 for a parent and child combo ticket is ridiculous. The club don’t sell huge amounts of them,so reducing it to a more manageable £35,say,wouldn’t cost them too much. We are, after all, trying to get the supporters of the future hooked on what it means to be a Celtic supporter.

Oh,and sitting you in a restricted view is just taking the piss. I suggest you write to the SLO about it.

Btw,the Parks of Hamilton stuff. Swindon Town have their own,fully-liveried luxury coach. Takes them the couple of miles to the training ground every day,and also to the away matches. Celtic say it isn’t an option as it might be vandalised. I say that they may have a point. I also suggest that if Douglas Park is viewed by the huns as being responsible for their next insolvency event, then hiring vehicles from them is likely to endanger our players.

They should be looking at other options.

BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS

LIBERO

I don’t think having Scott McDonald playing for them is likely to persuade ATHINGOFBEAUTY. Quite the opposite. Like me,she thinks he should have slightly mistimed his efforts in 2005.

TET, great post as usual, could not get a link to the game, but the brief highlights I did see, Frimpong and eddy were combining well together some nice interpassing, and broonie looked solid,hh.

Rod Stewart – Tory asshole.

Previous history:
Placed on UN’s blacklisted artist register for breaking anti apartheid boycott of South Africa.
Regularly performs in Tel Aviv. Artists more concerned with morals than money do not play in Israel.
Guilty of cultural appropriation. Uses an Irish Republican rebel ballad to make money then goes on nationwide tv to deny it is a rebel song!!!
A plastic Scotsman?? ‘Analogy courtesy of Ms Black SNP MP’ 🙂
Claims to be a Celtic FC supporter but obviously knows hee haw about why the football club was founded. Wee reminder Rodney Celtic FC was founded to help feed the poorest in our society. Something those you praise are happily encouraging in 2019 – let them starve – let charitable institutions deal with the homeless and starving.

And last of all your music is pure pish, so it is.

Oglach,

Sir Rod we´re talking about here ? who´d have thunk it. A man that has openly supported Enoch Powell since 1970. Awarded and accepted an MBE … what twenty years ago. Accepted the knighthood 3 years ago ? Still sings openly racist and sexist and misogynist songs. The bottom line is that this has all been known well since 1971 and the GB reacted to a FUCKING tweet. Fuck sakes. And if you know your history etc. Clapton and Stewart have talents that originate only from black influence but are part of that innate English racism that Morrissey has taken refuge in but hey we can accommodate them cos the SNP want to close Catholic schools. Didn’t know all that stuff about Rod Stewart! I must live a sheltered life.

Aye we all see the games differently 😉
We can agree on the young Dutch fella tho, he was outstanding.
HH
LIBERO
Maybes I didn’t give Hibs enough kudos, they made it difficult for us.
HH
That’s the team I would have chosen before the draw was made, the huns will be confident as well me thinks

jimthetim53

FC Copenhagen are ranked 48 in UEFA co-ef ratings. Celtic are 47th. ! Both with 31 points. Sounds close.

jimthetim53

oops sorry that was in May.

Its now Copenhagen 43rd with 35 points. Celtic 46th with 33 points

jimthetim53

The other Scottish team are 112th with 12.25 points 🙂

Honestly there’s only a baw hair between the two Scottish sides.

fan-a-tic

Great draw.
Teams evenly matched.
Lovely city to visit.
Expensive being the only drawback.

fan-a-tic

Anyone else think the outrage over the Green Brigade Rod banner is being encouraged by the club with the help of their pet blog?
Oglach and Awe Naw have it right on the celebrity bawbag.
I always cringe at our slobbering over having celebrity fans.
Green Brigade get it wrong sometimes but i know what fans i’d rather stand side by side with as a Celtic supporter.

AFTERNOON ALL, fan, great draw as you say, and your right just spent half an hour reading some shit on the other channel, with the chief tory taking on allcomers,hh.

Knew about the Clapton comments, but had not heard Rod Stewart’s comments.

I googled it quickly to see if he had subsequently explained, apologized, etc., but don’t see anything. Does anyone know if he did. I can’t imagine that some journalist hasn’t challenged him on this.

I know it was a long time ago, and, hopefully, his views have changed. But, even back then, he obviously listened to and was influenced by black artists. So, I struggle to understand how we could hold such views.

On Rodgate,
I like to think that the persons age and bank account wouldnt come into play so with that in mind say exactly what you would say to your mate if he said that.
Which . lets face it , is eff off.
So in my humble opinion the banner was correct.

I see the phrase open to all being used in Rods defence.
Well aye we are open to all,, we are open to all coming onboard and embracing the team and clubs ethos ( which admittedly this board dont get but the fans do ) and is laid out here for anyone interested.
http://www.celticfc.net/pages/corporate_socialmission

The phrase Celtic has always been more than a football club is right there on our own website.
The website also states
“ The best that Celtic stands for is an inclusive organisation being open to all regardless of age, sex, race, religion or disability. Celtic has been a club willing to offer a welcome to all.”

Theres no mention of accepting other opposite end of the spectrum political views because quite simply you should not be here if you have those views.
If you dont agree with the social charter ( and Tories cant ) then you are at the wrong place.
A Scottish club with Irish roots,,neither of which have any time for Tories and didnt vote for them is not for you if you want a Tory run country.
What good have you done us lately watching the the board walk over the average fan in most bent league in Europe.
Fuck off and take yer mates with ye.

MAHE,.do you just swear there? waiting for my mate jim to come on, he has gone to the shops to buy me a Christmas present?

I think we have to be happy with the draw. Not a formality by any means but a winnable tie.
I’m bemused at Sevco once again, given their 4th rate seeding, getting a reasonable draw. They’ve not played one really top side in the past 2 seasons.

I’m absolutely PMSL at the CL draw. For all the jiggery-pokery by EUFA to get to the stage where only their 5 preferred countries are represented in the last 16, we get Man City v Real Madrid.
The loser of that is going to feel that they’ve been papped out of the old European Cup in the first round!
It just makes me wonder just WHO is really benefiting from all their wheeling and dealing?
I’m sure both of them would rather have drawn Celtic in the round of 16!
All 4 English teams could conceivably be put out in this round.

Mike in Toronto

Would Morelos miss the Celtic game? Right now, it is in his head. But, being honest, he has had some really bad luck. That changes, and he could go on a run.

Bitton is a decent squad player, but not more than that. He is neither fish nor fowl, in that he is never a true CB, but neither is he a defensive mid (gets caught on the wrong side of his man too often) If he is on more than 20k per week, I think the money could be spent better.

Speaking of red cards, did anyone see the schalke keeper’s red this weekend? Brutal! Those of a certain vintage will remember Harald Schumacher’s red when Germany faced France in the ‘82 World Cup?

This was similar but worse. While Schumacher lead with his boot, he pulled back and sort of hit the forward with his hip. the Schalke keeper led with his boot and went studs first into the attacker’s chest. The studs left marks on his chest like a swat from a tiger’s claw, remarkably, he did not suffer serious injury.
