Politics n football

There’s a myriad of stuff to talk about, like “Let’s Nir it for the bhoy” signing on to spend the bulk of his career in Scotland.
Its a sign he’s happy and we satisfy the ambitions he set out with.
He’s tough as f#%k and has been a bargain ala utility man that doesn’t rock the boat one inch.
I’m delighted for him and he stands us in good stead when negotiating with Israeli players.
We have treated him well and the Isreali league proves a fertile breeding ground.
Whether he is first choice and where he would play is another question.

And then there is the Uefa cup draw that pits us against Copenhagen.
Has cracking away tie for the fans written all over it. Make no mistake though, we win this tie.
Yes we do.

Other notables include Virgil possibly being the lynchpin of the worlds best team by weeks end.
And Brendans linking with one of the biggest jobs in footie in Manchessity cannot help but send a hat tip our way.

But the real news is, still, politics.
It even got involved in the game this week showing once and for all they are intertwined.
China waded in with typical bulldozer fashion and just switched the offending team off full stop.
But they didn’t did they.

Perhaps Ozil played the crowd knowing the first thing people would do is google his chosen group.
And perhaps he knows fine well that his contract doesn’t mention what he is or isn’t allowed to tweet about.
Perhaps he couldn’t care less what anyone thinks and he himself thinks that what he is doing is justified.
No matter what, expect footballers to start speaking up more often in a planet quickly spiraling out of control.

However there’s only one story I myself wanna cover today and that’s Rodgate.
I will state clearly that I like to think I am the type of person who deals with the man in front of him fairly and regardless of race and most definitely religion.

Most of you know I’m a West Belfast man who seen up close just how much a Tory gov cares.
One day the milk was gone.
One day the uncle was gone.
All the time the rights were gone.
Language nearly gone
Jobs all but gone
Identity they wished gone

Almost every day I recall a friend who made a few a choices that he thought were for the best of the area but now lies in that same areas soil.
All because of a Tory Gov and their policies.

I stay away from that dirty game and keep my head down as far as I concerned.

And now here I have my own club infested with such?
Gerrymandered, ,
Fans banned through choice, ,
Embraced the ugly Old Firm, ,
Epl wages in backwater, ,
Bent refs, ,

If Res12 didn’t get folk off their arse, ,
The Tories taking over the club might just do the job for them.
Wrong club for them. Not this club.
This is your club
Never believe otherwise .
A club to be proud of and a team to match.
That’s what we want and expect.

Rod, ,
This site stands with the Green Brigade.
Fuck off and take your Tories with you pls.

The above is by Mahe.
Please consider a guest article as hangovers are popular this time of year.
Merry Christmas All.

Brilliant succinct and to the point Mahe. Can’t believe the amount of excuses getting trotted out to vindicate Rod. The one that really gets my goat is that the banner offended the kiddies. FFS! I said worse when I did my first ever nappy change for the wean’s.
Very clear for me; Tories and their supporters are against me and mine. So f**k them and anyone who backs them.

A thing of beauty

Okey doke mahe. You made your point but just as the green brigade don’t speak for me, neither do you. So if this site stands with the green brigade and others who don’t stand with them can fck off, I’ll take your advice and bid you and your site farewell.

I’m with you on the banner but I’m definitely not with the Green Brigade.
I hope supporting them isn’t a prequisite for posting on this site.

December 17, 2019 7:59 am

I agree with the sentiment but not the means of expression (by the Green Brigade).
Great articles all round recently, if I fall into the category of one who does not comment much, then I’ll have to live with it. That is not to say that I don’t have my own point of view, rather that it is invariably covered by others and more articulately!
Hope you are well.

I believe that Mahe was stating that the blog stood with the GB re its opinion of Rodney Stewart and the banner telling Sir Rodney to GTF and not every thing the GB do. Personally I’d like to believe that most Celtic supporters are of the opinion that right wing Tory A holes have no place at our club irrespective of how many Celtic crests they place on their bands drums kits or big train sets they own. There is a newly founded entity not far from Celtic park where those of a right wing political leaning are welcome with open arms. Celtic FC founded to help poor immigrants 1888 – Now lets see 2019 – The Tory party still hate immigrants and the poor, children are living with hunger in modern Scotland because of Tory policies .
Also a question to those who honestly believe that we are a club open to all – If Stephen Yaxley-Lennon ( AKA Tommy Robinson) declared he was a Celtic supporter should we welcome him to paradise? Perhaps the board should give him a posh seat also as he is a bit of a celeb?

Me I wouldn’t give anyone who voted Conservative the stink off my shite and sincerely hope the ‘ if you hate the tories’ chant becomes a regular number at paradise.

Rod Stewart is a squirrel

Rod Stewart is a baby Tory compared to those that the GB finance on a regular occasion without compunction (see Res 12) (See Lord Livingston of Parkhead) (See Living wage)

I despise the SDP more than the Tories as they are far more devious and just as dangerous (see student fees) so are they the next political grouping to be told to Fuck off ?

How many of our players and idols have (secretly) voted Tory ?

How many of our current managers and current C.E have dabbled in tax evasion ? Answer ALL OF THEM so are they any better than Rod Stewart ?

As I pointed out yesterday Rod aint changed since he was 20. He was a communist at 19. Mhhhh any bells of intellect ringing here?

I bet the GB have zero sympathy for my position of not having contributed to a Neo Liberal Billionaires pocket money fund since 2012. In fact I bet they consider me a hun for not doing so.

Celtic have been ran along Neo Liberal lines since 1997 it´s a shame the GB have not noticed or done anything about it

I´ll be back on tomorrow as I don’t want to participate any further in this squirrel.

Hmmm – mixed feelings on this article.
Delighted that Nir has bitten (geddit) on the contract offer; I think his best days in a Tic shirt are still to come.
Relieved that the Euro-draw offers us some hope, tho striker-town defo needs repopulated.
I’m not overtly political and don’t fully know what Sir Rod was meaning/thinking when he dashed off the questionable tweet; my interpretive and mind-reading skills are unreliable. And as a resident of the US, not sure how influential or informed Rod really is.
Like ATOB, my Celtic is inclusive. I could stand beside fellow Celts who were apolitical, communist, bit red, bit-Green, socialist, centrist, left leaning or right leaning. Their preference isn’t my business; their love of Celtic and the Celtic way is more pertinent.
If we’re prescriptively narrowing what you have to be outside the ground for others to determine whether you’re a welcomed Celt, I’m not easy with that. Would Fergus be? Would Brother Walfrid be…?

A club like no other eh?……..RS has been a better supporter and has done more for our club on a worldwide basis than the the GB ever will. A great ambassador for Celtic (and no’ a bad singer either). He doesn’t constantly endanger fellow fans with pyros, he doesn’t constantly cost the club the threat of stand closures & large amounts of cash in fines (money that could be better used elsewhere).
BTW, I’m not and never will be a tory – but I respect the right of others to free speech.
Get a grip people and try to celebrate the success we’re having just now………

I agree with both Oglach and Awe Naw’s take on this.
Happy Biton is staying
As for Rod the Mod, I disagree with your assertion LB, the world wide publicity and kudos the club got via Pink Floyd and the Palestinian flag debacle was more than the club could ever have dreamt or that Rod the Mod could ever hope to bring to the club.

Absolutely delighted Nir has penned a new deal. Possibly the most versatile player on our books.

“When you have the opportunity to stay with Celtic, you take that opportunity”

Nir Bitton

December 17, 2019 10:13 am

Signing Nir to another three years is good business. Neil rates him and likes him, which means he probably has more of a chance of playing than, say,Big Tam or Maryan Shved. And the Copenhagen draw,as I said last night, opens up huge possibilities for us-if we get through it.

Mezut Ozil is a footballer, and should be judged as a footballer. And for me and many others,he has come up way short in the last four or five years. That’s a big part of a career to be a passenger. But he is also a human being, and in that capacity he is ten feet tall. At a time when a Nobel Peace Laureate is defending her military against genocide and around a million Rohingya Muslims are living in squalor in camps provided by Bangladesh, one of the poorest countries in the world, and when around four times that many are living in camps across the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts, the Chinese have brutally repressed an entire ethic region, and nobody seems to give a damn. I salute him for his humanity and for the courage it took to go public.

Which leads me to Rod and The Green Brigade. Rod is entitled to his democratic right to vote. The Green Brigade are entitled to their democratic right to protest. No-one,however,is entitled to tell anyone HOW to vote, and it is surely undemocratic to castigate someone for their political allegiance. I would never vote Tory-a lot of my friends do,and that is their choice-but I have to say how underwhelmed I am that a multi-millionaire former tax-exile does too.

Rod’s tweet was intended as a light-hearted dig to some of his friends. We’ve all done similar in similar circumstances. But it was a fairly childish thing to do,nevertheless. But the reaction of the GB and certain bloggers has been frankly not in the least bit surprising. They have form for it,and have displayed their playground politics for all to see for well over a decade now.

We have plenty of enemies as it is. There is no need to make more of them by including everyone who doesn’t have the same purity of belief as our Spokesmen For The Generation.

December 17, 2019 10:16 am

I don’t have that excuse, and I still screw up. Mainly because your junior probably has more keyboard skills than me already!

December 17, 2019 10:20 am

Apparently there was a wee stooshie at half-time on Sunday, caused by Morelos trying to do Gallagher down the Achilles in the same way he got Jullien the previous week.

Kris Boyd was appalled!

But only because Sky replayed the incident. Apparently, that was only because it was Morelos. That’s the type of unbiased and pertinent insight people pay the big bucks every month to Sky for.

Mahe, As I’m not a regular contributor I might be out of order in making a comment, I am by & large a Green Brigade Supporter & most certainly a Shinner, However both parties are not infallible & can make mistakes & when they do it is reasonable for people to disagree. Disagreeing with the Rod Banner does not make anyone a Tory,
Unfortunately in your article you let your heart rule your head, painting this site as a Green Brigade Supporting Site is OK up to a point but more or less telling anyone who disagrees to fuck off is definitely not OK..

Sometimes he makes it impossible for the referee to ignore his actions. That must be frustrating for them when they are going out their way to help him get to the end of the game.

The press are doing their bit, by telling you ..every day!… that he has changed ( He hasnt)

And if none of that works, just keep repeating …

“Aye, but what about Scott Brown” ?

From a distance the world looks blue and green
And the snow capped mountains white
From a distance the ocean meets the stream
And the eagle takes to flight
From a distance there is harmony
And it echoes through the land
It’s the voice of hope, it’s the voice of peace
It’s the voice of every man
From a distance we all have enough
And no one is in need
There are no guns, no bombs, no diseases
No hungry mouths to feed
From a distance we are instruments
Marching in a common band
Playing songs of hope, playing songs of peace
They’re the songs of every man
God is watching us, God is watching us
God is watching us from a distance
From a distance you look like my friend
Even though we are at war
From a distance I can’t comprehend
What all this war is for
From a distance there is harmony
And it echoes through the land
It’s the hope of hopes; it’s the love of loves
It’s the heart of every man
It’s the hope of hopes, it’s the love of loves
It’s the song of every man

Timbhoy2, I was talking to a mate about Celtic Park a few days ago. I would love to see the main stand rebuilt to make the stadium an oval 2 tier arena with 5 stars UEFA rating. An underground bus parking facility for the visiting teams. He took the opposite view, he loves it just the way it is. He sees the main stand as historical.

As far as talking politics on this site is concerned – isn’t Mahe one of the creators of SC? Not really anyone’s place to tell him or BMCUWP what they can or can’t discuss.

Also I must be truly blessed as I can state without fear of contradiction that none of the people I consider as my close friend’s vote Conservative. Albeit there are occasional heated discussions with a couple who vote SNP.

In 1970, Rod was quoted as saying That, “Enoch [Powell] is the man. I’m all for him. This country is overcrowded. The immigrants should be sent home. That’s it.” As far as I can see, he did not disavow this later. He now supports a man and party who are hostile towards immigration.

Two thoughts:

1. As a de facto Celtic brand ambassador, does he not associate Celtic with these views?

2. If this is okay, why is the Famine Song not? And vice versa?

December 17, 2019 12:20 pm

Best Rod Stewart story I heard was Henke was in the states and Sir Rodney invited him to a party at his friends house Anywho hanging on the wall of Rod’s mates home was a signed Celtic shirt with Sir Rodney’s name emblazoned on the back. What do ya think of that asks Rodney? Henke shrugs and replies “when did you play for Celtic” – Classic put down from the cool Swede 🙂

It doesn’t sit easy in my eyes Scottish people , ridiculing English Tories , Westminster Government & English supporters . Scottish people had a glorious opportunity to break away from England & become Independenrt . The Scots wanted it but were too stupid to not allow the English Tories to con enough to vote to stay . My Country have fought for centuries to break free but the Tories & British Army prevents . The British Army includes Scottish Regiments which included Celtic supporting soldiers who in order to please their Rangers supporting colleagues murdered & injured Celtic fans . It isn’t only people like Rod Stewart who we should be telling to f..k off

I think Rod can take it and a tweet from one man is pretty irrelevant to me after the betrayal of the UK my tens of millions

As regards Celtic , who play football , I am not sure what to feel about tomorrow night. Hearts have had a shocking season but always raise their effort (if not skill) against us.

We have not played great for a few weeks now so we have to put a solid and clinical display in (too many efforts off target)

Great opportunity to extend the lead and sincerely hope we take it

Funnily enough I know many Celtic supporters who don’t share my opinion but to tell them to f..k off is abusive and demeaning.
By all means stick to your own feelings but it sounds to me like some people think that different attitudes to life prevent some people from being supporters.A truly arrogant stance in my opinion and more suited to those who label us as Taigs,Fenians, and so forth.
Not all Celtic supporters are Catholic,Irish descendant,Labour Party card carrying members of which I am all three but then I didn’t know I had to be.
