All the best Scott
And so it passed that one key Treble Treble component was moved along.
Scott Sinclair was a coup that for all purposes did exactly what it said on the tin.
Should someone have offered those stats at the time for the price or any price within range to be honest Im sure we all would have nodded the head.
62 goals coming from the left wing in basically three seasons is the stuff of dreams, which makes it even all the more puzzling why it is exactly he just never seemed to have got a sniff, and seen others with less credit in the bank get the nod before him.
We haven’t really seen a proper left winger cement the position in a long while, the last attempt at a proper pacey left footed player to take control of that wing went terribly wrong in Dirk Boerrigter. Scotty doesn’t fit that mold , but has silky skills, good feet and conditioning,,and allied with Brendans coaching hit the spot spectacularly so in his debut season.
One imagines it was that very coaching that was a big lure for him and it clearly rubbed off.
But as we have seen time and time again in football, the new man at the helm just didnt rate him and thats all she wrote.
Neils decision to move on Scott and also now Lewis Morgan ( more on him later ) shows that he feels he doesnt have what he wants on that left wing. Ryan has been shunted out there and we have even seen James given a brief stint,, and now we see the two signed for that position going or gone. What happens out there next is a mystery but with little indication of a youngster ready to step in, or another member of the squad, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to expect someone incoming with a view to claiming the position. Hopefully that someone is of the requisite quality, and signed this month to give us a new option boost for the run in.
Signing now would have him well bedded in for any qualifiers early summer which we dont want to approach with a square peg in round hole or newcomer still finding feet.
The departing player was linked with his new club , the historic Preston North End a while ago and didnt fancy it. I must admit I could see why at the time, bit of a climb down and all that going from Brendan and trophies in front of 60k to a 23k capacity Championship side,,,but then again compared to our bent league the Championship is a lot more watched thus more flush and a lot fairer in the officiating stakes.
Also being one of our rumoured top earners it shows there cant be that much of a wage disparity for clubs in that league, a mere one step from the golden ticket.
The Lilywhites have gotten themselves a good player for very little and having just turned 30 they might just tease a few great years out of our ex winger. If he helps them reach the top flight then the entire deal will have been proved a bargain.
It will come as no surprise he left most impressed by the fans leaving them a heartfelt thank you,,, “ But most importantly thank you to all the fans for the love and support you have showb me over the last three and half years Ive been here. Its been inspirational, an honour and pleasure to wear the shirt, you will be missed.”
He told his new teams local reporter “ I think it was the best part of my career, we were winning everything up there. Brendan Rodgers left, there were a few changes and Lenny came in. He is doing a great job and Im sure they will get nine in a row.”
Encouraging words from the man who will have seen up close and personal just how Neil works, and notably he is still backing him for the big task. Pleasing to see or read no parting shots and he never ever did seem like anything but a nice guy who was good at football.
Inter Miami ( I thought it was a joke also ) are in talks with our backup striker former left winger Lewis Morgan who is as well moving on for his own sake. How in Gods green earth they have managed to come up with him as a signing target might possibly be explained one day by someone somewhere but I expect the young man cant believe his luck. Sunshine and the American way of life calls, as does a great photo for the grandkids with Becks.
Grab yer chance with both hands Lewis.
So with the wage bill officially lowered nicely now would be the correct time to pounce on any signings that are ready to cross T’s and dot I’s. There are strong rumours of a defensive midfielder about to join the Hoops, perhaps even out in Dubai, but we deal with signings when the ink has dried as policy. That the squad needed trimmed was universally agreed, and that the first team could do with more options right now is also crystal clear.
Its time to deliver those options.
So long Scott Sinclair treble treble winner. Thanks for the memories. Youll Never Walk Alone.
