Straight talking needed

Now one of the games worst kept secrets (the 5 way agreement and who was involved) is out in the open one would hope that its the beginning of the end.
After seeing the last decade dominated by off field events Im sure none of us wish for a repeat of any such scenes and just want a game to sit back and enjoy knowing its exactly what it says on the tin. No more and no less.

There are hundreds of lessons to be learned from the entire saga, if only one chooses to. We can only hope that those who will lead the governing bodies and the top flights clubs share at least a large percentage of our dismay at what we have been served up as properly regulated football.
I already know its going to be a very hard quick summary in the future to potential young fans, trying to explain the ripples after a leading club died, and subsequent manipulation of existing rules.
We seen the Asterisk years ( hat tip to Paul Larkin ) and now the ten in a row years dominate most Tims brains. I guess how this quest ends will give birth to its nickname for better or worse.
And when it ends we all enter into a new era for the national sport.

While some may fall in love twice or more, your teams a different matter all together. It’s your badge of who you are and what you represent. We’ve all seen folk thrown into sheer unbridled ecstasy at a goal or result,, their day, week, month, year suddenly looking a hell of a lot better. In the case of the big cup it literally made many lives better.
There is no changing your chosen team.
For a real fan it’s just not possible.

As mentioned we enter the second decade of scandals now, and for myself the second year of this blog and year’s on another before that asking questions or seeking answers.
Or shaking the head.
It’s taxing and it’s not good for the soul.
To do the same again would drain the life out of me to be honest.
It’s not gonna happen.
I often wonder how Auldheid keeps going and I’m not the first and won’t be the last.
It’s not good for any supporter to be in such limbo. Many are, perhaps more than some realise. We know there’s other clubs fans just as concerned also. This isn’t restricted to just our club of choice. There’s widespread dissatisfaction.

That new era spoke of will not take all supporters without change.
Seeing the same faces and bodies quick to take your money but disappear into smoke and mirrors when concerns are raised just will not cut it after what we have been through.
As we read almost daily some have decided they just can not put up with the stench of corruption and have already made their personal peace with withdrawing.
It’s tragic on every level. Fans do not grow on trees. Once that void is filled with something else, that’s it.
For a set up that counts on fans season book and walk up cash not television rights purchased, that’s the road to failure. Pure unadulterated failure.

There’s one possible way out of this mess of many years making.
It’s an old cliche but its good to talk has never been more apt. I’ve seen bigger shitstorms fixed with some good old-fashioned chin wagging. Conflicts end in such a fashion.
No one at all wants this mistrust and misleading to continue.
It’s in everyone’s best interests to find common ground and let the focus be solely on the field of play for many a year hoping the sport rebuilds it’s tarnished reputation.
Everyone wants to move on, hopefully with the club onside.

Leveling with the support at large and engaging them will help many think much better of the club. Would sway many a troubled Tim and would be an act worthy of proper Celtic men.
We cant continue on this course no matter what. Knowing what we all know now about the last ten years or so, putting the head in the sand and hoping discontent blows over is not going to cut the mustard one bit.

This next era the club will head into cannot be anything like the last. The league wouldn’t survive another decade like that and even now there are major doubts whether it could apply FFP correctly to its charges. No lessons seem to have been learnt from the governing bodies who should have been ripped up after what they overseen.
Only yesterday we have this weeks sinister scandal with a whiff of “hes being forced out of Scotland“ already being floated by he who is one of the biggest problems the game has. The national sport dragged into the gutter to help hopefully sell an asset,, no problem at all.
Like I say something needs to give here,,those wishing a properly run competition are going elsewhere and will continue to, the number growing each month that see’s another farce to add to the huge list of them.
The Old Firm set up is the road nowhere and will just leave more unhappy supporters in its wake.

We call on the PLC to realise the frustrations of the support , and to take steps to not only hear but consider and act upon the issues the support face.
The fans feel voiceless and taken for granted plus having seen the 5 way document some explanation is due. More than anything, some honesty is due.
Talk to your lifeblood while you still have them.
Now before its too late.

A tremendous article-again. You are right enough-the game cannot continue in this way in Scotland. The laws of the game, and the regulations to drive good governance, need to be agreed to and rigorously enforced.

That means no exceptions. At all. Not for teams sending out masonic distress signals, not for corrupt and compromised match officials who allow their bigotry and hatred to prevent them from carrying out their duties-for which they are handsomely paid, btw. I’m willing to bet that they are the highest earner on the pitch quite often.

As for Morelos and the latest story,I’m sure that the police will be viewing CCTV evidence. Even if only to see how someone can limbo dance under the four inch clearance of a Hourican. Then watch a tooled-up crim outrun a professional footballer.

As an aside, some eejit in Swindon tried to tamper with a Vauxhall Astra recently. He had to jack it up to do so,as I would have to on my van. Still wasn’t a great idea though…

December I ordered my car.

Latest update it’ll be with me around 20th March. Pitiful.

As for the article, it’s bang on the money, but I fear there’ll be another one in 10 years time bemoaning another decade of the same old same old.

Celtic have now played 14 times since losing to Livingston in Oct. Results in that time …

6-0 4-0 2-0 2-0 4-0 4-1 2-1 2-0 2-0 2-1 2-1 1-2 3-1 3-0

Played 14, won 13, scored 39, conceded 7

And after last night, we are the aggregate score leaders for the whole of Europe.

Until the above changes, Neil Lennon will do for me ?

BAD
Immense performance in the first half hour last night. The Ntcham goal was a thing of beauty. Tremendous football. I though Taylor showed a lot of ability last night. Very impressed by him.

The last hour of the match was frustrating to watch if only because the bar was set so high in that initial period.

3-0 is a result I’m more than happy with though. ( although I bet 3-1 but I’m happy to live with the lost money on that one)

Big Julienne is worrying me again!! I made an arse of myself when I slaughtered him after his first couple games, when he went to Ibrox and put on a great display. I gratefully accepted my error of judgement. However, those signs that worried me over those initial games are returning I feel. I’m starting to lose confidence again. Hopefully he’ll prove my concerns misplaced again!!

As for Neil, we’ve been here before you and I. All I’ll say is I don’t share your opinion, BUT, like big Julienne, I hope you both prove I know fekk all about players and managers.

Games coming up thick and fast, with some tough away fixtures. Steer the good ship Celtic through those unscathed, and I might reconsider my opinion.

Might….?

Big Audio Dynamite

We will only get change if the people at the top allow it. We can talk till our heads fall off but it won’t make a lick of difference.

The PLC has proved on numerous occasions what is important to them …and it ain’t us! You are getting the “Old firm” back wether you like it or not. They know enough time will pass that everyone will just move on.

How many of our overall support, do you think are ready to walk away for good? I’ll guarantee it’s not enough to panic the PLC …and until that changes…meh!

Big Audio Dynamite

Having 8 games to play, with 7 away from home, is an utter scandal! I am so utterly desperate to win this league, to stick 2 fingers up to all these c@nts. That random computer really is something, eh?!

Big Audio Dynamite

Twists, the only slight moan I had last night, was not taking Eddie off earlier …just to protect our biggest asset. Everything else, I’ll happily live with while results are what they are.?

Watching events across the city suggests points will be dropped. They’re down to one fit striker and he is liable to end up suspended again .

If we can negotiate this next series of away games unscathed it’s possible we could be going to Ibrox with the opportunity to pretty much put the league to bed.

Of course the MIB’s will be well aware of this too so some extra leniency will no doubt be afforded to Mr Morelos et al over the coming weeks.

Like you, getting to the 9 would be a hammer blow to them, and I’d suggest make the 10 a shoe in.

They’re at do or die stage. Well , I say do or die. I mean do or die, meaning die before returning as the undead with history intact .

Big Audio Dynamite

How does a grown man go about getting underneath a Lamborghini to tamper with the brakes? Admittedly I have never had one, but I have seen enough to know it’s utterly impossible!

We really do live in the era of fake news.

Twists, speaking of refs(Grrr) Beaton ended the first half 15 seconds early… then ended the second half after pointing to the corner flag, to signify a corner to us! Did you catch that?

Brilliant performance first half, worse than average second. It’s a mystery to me how we do it stacks of times.i said Taylor was the best left back at the club and I think he showed it last night.Still not convinced MJ should be in the squad never mind on the park, but staying on when might not make game end is definitely not a good idea. Can only end one way. It’s like asking how much someone paid for their holiday…either they’re gutted or you are.
Agree with ATOB,an animated NFL appeared again! As for the sweary words….he’s lucky he didn’t get a a boot in the backside never mind the ‘frontside’.

The Gombeen Man

Mahe, The only time I’ve seen the PLC wobble was when Pedro met SB holders personally to convince them to renew.

The old firm project has moved on and the chief architects have been rewarded handsomely financially or via better jobs.

Neil Lennon,

Can’t say I agree with others. I thought Patryck should have came on earlier for Griff or Eddy. Johnston was a surprise when he came on and looked hurt. The medical team/ NFL should have taken him off.

Thought Neil was projecting his anger at his own mistakes onto the 20 year old.

If Gerrard carried on like that we’d be outraged.

Not the first time recently I’ve noticed NFL let himself down.

Anyway, till later.

Just watched the replay of the match again. Hadn’t cottoned on to the time added on ( or not )

I actually just came on to comment on the NL / Mikey J incident which I hadn’t seen yet. I disagree with the popular opinion on here that Neil showed he has his mojo back.

Johnston is down injured
Physio comes on
Looks like they think he can continue
Lenny makes his sub
MJ ran the length of pitch and back in the ensuing few minutes
Clearly he’s now feeling his knee again and has to be subbed.

Lennon’s “ F off “ reaction is wrong in my opinion

Telling a youngster to F off and then quite clearly mouthing “ waste of a substitution” wasn’t necessary.

There were 3 minutes to go at the time ffs. Was he worried at 3-0 up with 3 minutes to go??

Did it matter?? The new guy got some game minutes. No harm done.

If he really wants to show some mettle , kick ff PL’s door in today demanding the 4 signings he said he wanted.

Now he doesn’t need them?

Bullshit. He’s been shafted by PL and tries to defend it by saying he doesn’t care if he doesn’t get the additional players.

Mojo back my arse. If that’s the best he can do he’s picking the wrong opponent. A young player who misjudged the severity of his injury? With 3 minutes to go? Wow. What balls it must’ve took to tell him to fuck off.
In my opinion of course.

Bluegrass Celt

I think Lenny’s reaction was due more to frustration than anything else. Irrespective of there only being 3 mins to go with our being 3 up Mickey J staying on the field was wrong. He was asked by the coaching staff and physio if he was ok to continue, clearly he wasn’t but ‘he’ decided he was staying on the field. Along with this display of immaturity, and he is hardly a kid at 20, I cant see what he offers the team and, imo, is far too lightweight at present for the SPFL. If an occasional flash of dribbling magic and the odd trick warrants a place in the team we should have kept Paddy McCourt 🙂 I am of the opinion Mickey J should have been loaned to an English league team to see if he can develop.

Rebus67

TnT,

Your post at 12.22 is right on the money. NL has possibly destroyed a young player who thrives on confidence. Some of his decisions are strange…Brown as a CB? Bauer as a wing back? Late substitutions? Also, his demeanour in the dugout is odd…often slumped and seemingly disinterested. Then, how long does it take to see that Taylor was by far the best LB currently at the club. Any time he is allowed to play he has thrown in good crosses into the box…..Neil seems to have just realised that last night.

On the positive side, he had the courage to try 352 after the home loss to Sevco and, when, we have three fit CBs, it usually works well. How he can claim to be OK with two fit CBs and three big question marks, is beyond me……..at least get a loanee in.

Give us more of that first half, Lenny……you know you can.

Twists n Turns Oglach
I understand Neil’s reaction to MJ but he should have dealt with in private.
As far as his talent goes i feel MJ has the ability and potential to be a top class player.
I often moan that the set up at Celtic is so disjointed it makes it well nigh impossible for a youngster to succeed.
With a manager who tinkers rather than drops his favorites and seems not to judge on actual performance but on personal whims it makes it even more difficult.
Mikey started the season well then unfortunately picked up an injury.
Since he has returned from original injury he has been used erratically so it honestly looks like he is trying to hard to reestablish himself.
Our poor and baffling use of subs has not helped.
We need a more cohesive and fair approach to the football side.

Rebus67

Oglach,

I agree that Mikey should have been loaned out and an English league would be better, rather than another SPL or Scottish Championship team. He needs to take the Christie route and build up his physique. He also needs strengthen exercises for his legs, particularly the knees. All of this needs to be managed. He is a very talented boy who does have a football brain. What he does not need is a public humiliation for a mistake that he made out of a desire to impress the manager……very poor, old school management thinking. The correct approach would be to handle it in the dressing room and give him a verbal kicking of the gonads.

Trouble is we have few left sided wide players so, I guess, that explains why he is not out on loan.

Big Audio Dynamite

Lenny swore? At football? Wow! Whatever next. If you’re so bothered by swearing, maybe football’s not for you.

This constant sniping at the manager is helping absolutely no one. Does it not make more sense to unite behind him? Especially right now.

The Schumann Resonance

It was clear last night why Neil has proffered to go with boli/hayes at left back or wing back.

When Taylor had space to run into or make a cross he was brilliant last night.

When faced with an opponent he was reluctant to take a man on and he would come to a stop and then play the ball back or sideways.

Neil obviously likes his full backs to take the man on hence Taylors lack of game time.

Rebus67

BAD,

All of this sniping at the manager? Unite behind him, especially at this time?

Does the same logic apply to constant sniping at the Board and/or PL? Should those that do give up football?

So, don’t post on a blog unless I agree with your perspective?

Think it through,

Confirmation Bias

If you dont like NL as person or manager then anything he does will confirm how he is perceived.

If you do like him as either a person or a manager that wins a lot more than he loses, then anything he does will be filtered through the same CB spectacles.

If however you look at last night’s reason for some to criticise NL you will see that Micky Johnson caused a substitution to be made that would not have been made had MJ made the right call.

He didnt and NL was unhappy with him with every right to be so, only a 3 0 lead and little time left reduced the chance that it mattered.

Was NL right to show his annoyance when he did, ?

Probably not, but he is no more immune to the same feelings supporters have and express during the game in the heat of the game at any event that puts the team at risk of losing.

The Gombeen Man

The boy was only coming back from a long term lay off. It was clear that he was badly hurt and the Physio should have called it.

It’s also clear that Neil’s suspension from Hibs after a number of players approached the senior management at the club about his behaviour (26th Jan 2019) has taught him very little about the subtitles of management.

I don’t think I have ever seen a manager tell a player to “f**k off” in that manner.

Take the Celtic blinkers off.

Over to you Pedro.

Twists n turns

Auldheid
Do you think MJ knew he was injured too badly to continue but chose to lie re the extent?

If so, I’d agree, Neil should’ve crucified him. In the dressing room.

However, I think MJ didn’t think it was too bad, and was therefore wronged by his manager.

By the way, I disagree entirely on the confirmation bias. I judge each situation as I see it. In all walks of life. I think he was wrong last night. If I though MJ was in the wrong, I’d say so.

The fact he ran up the pitch and back following the treatment suggest he felt it was a knock he could run off.

At recent Euro U21s Hagi was a standout for Romania.
He scored in group stages against Italy and Croatia when they topped a difficult group.
They lost in semi’s to Germany.
The boy is a good player.
He will improve their lack of creativity.

jimthetim53

I can’t help feel a bit sorry for MJ last night. We usually admire and respect players who get up after an incident and try to ‘run it off’. Shows a bit of toughness and willing to battle on. He obviously called it wrong. As mentioned previously maybe he was trying too hard to please.

JimmynotPaul

Lenny said at press conference, Bolingoli has been rested until he finds his confidence.
Was unable to give a answer on how long Frimpong will be out for.

Rebus67

Auldheid,

I would not presume to explain the variety of motivations that inspire a post on a blog. Psychology 101 is not sufficient for the purpose.

Sometimes what someone does is simply wrong. Calling it as such can have nothing to do with any other feelings about the individuals involved.

You were in management? Do you believe it good practice to humiliate someone in public for some aspect of their performance, irrespective of confirmation bias or not?

Rebus

jimthetim53

So Frimpong is out for goodness knows how long and Power didn’t even get a yellow! We should charge Kilmarnock for his sick pay!.

fan-a-tic

The 3 at the back last night is a far better fit for the McGregor /Brown partnership.
Their propensity to chase and take themselves out of position is not so damaging as there is 3 men shoring up the vulnerable central area they often vacate.
It also allowed McGregor to get more forward than usual.
Also thought Jozo and Ajer did a good job of stepping out with the ball and disrupting our opponents defensive shape.
When Brown replaced Jozo at the half our backline had no shape and he was chasing around without purpose.
Bauer stabilized the defense when he come on not because he was great but due to the fact that everyone knew their set role.
It’s not the system you play that’s paramount but the proper implementation of whatever set up the coach chooses.
