A bitch of a pitch

One look at the comments yesterday showed the common theme was we would be doing very well to come away with three points, that we dont do well on that pitch, and their striker can bully us.
All were correct.

We luckily walked away from the night a point to the good in the grand scheme of things and Neil can rightly point to the never say die attitude of his players as a positive to champion.
Once again though we turn in a disjointed performance and while many would just ideally take the points during Winter and leave the pretty playing for the rest of the seasons, theres a school of thought that we have become over reliant on flashes of brilliance from the more gifted players on the pitch.
Having a settled eleven has been beyond us which never helps to forge a system, but thats no reason to not try and instill a style.

Normal times would see the gaffer questioned over his approach and he would be expected to be forthcoming in his rationale and criticisms when due. Did he learn from the previous defeat and was the team selection correct for instance?
“I thought we played great” was not the commonly held view from the faithful about that performance. But normal times these aint and the 9th title by hook or by crook seems to be the majority wish.
Perhaps with the gap grown again our Captain might get a rest here and there and it makes sense to blood our rarely seen strikers. Yesterday was our 52nd game of the season, and some will feel those games acutely. A little rest can work wonders, I hope the gaffer knows and trusts that fact. The squad is huge and there to be dipped into.

There is 13 points separating us from the 2nd place team at present with two more meetings of those teams to come. As witnessed just yesterday our own team can find the going tough on plastic, and our rivals looked to have a gameplan to nullify us and take points, so essentially its not over yet, bigger leads have been blown before.
Our rivals might be imploding but its better to handle your own business rather than have someone else’s mistakes leave you looking good.
We must forget about everyone else and just keep racking up points full stop, even if we are looking likely Champions again.

There has been very little credit given to Livingston for how they played, I thought they were good, but Celtic controlled most of the game, and really played some good stuff while trying to get back level. Professional footballers being asked to play on cheap carpet, should be a permanent embarrassment for this country.

Anyway, 13pts clear and the Bears are revolting.

Is Stevie still all in??

Where do people think this team get their relentless will to win from? Do they think the players just dreamed that up by themselves? No, as you can see at Ibrokes, the team is a reflection of the manager’s character.

I wouldn’t swap Neil for no one! The reason this team is 13pts & 21 goals clear, is because our manager refuses to allow them to let up.

There was a moment last night when they had went 2-1 ahead, and our play was a little hurried and disjointed, Neil emerged from the dugout to urge them to calm down …they did, and immediately began to control the direction of the game. They have an unbelievable attitude …it’s a pleasure to support this team.

TLR, I’m astonished at some of the criticism the team gets. It’s like, people expect them to be robots! They will not win every game they play, I’m cool with that, but their will to win is second to none.

This Celtic team fills me with pride, like few teams ever have. I never once lost faith last night, I just know this team will push right to the final whistle.

No more of it,please.

Bobby, Nonsense? You deciding that, aye? Your site, your rules.

How do we decide what subjects are ok? We just spent weeks discussing child abuse,is that ok for debate cause it has something to do with our club? I scrolled by it all, as I don’t want to talk about it, others can’t do that with other(Far more palatable) subjects.

Happy to talk it over with you mate, but I have to be honest, I think you are making a mistake limiting free speech.

But, as with everything else, no biggy. Like I say, your site.

“Our rivals might be imploding but its better to handle your own business rather than have someone else’s mistakes leave you looking good.” (Mahe)

I have to say I felt a bit guilty last night that my relief at coming away with a point at Livi was on a par with the joy of Hamilton beating the huns. It shouldn’t be so. But then again our rivals’ results in a league are important to us. For the sake of balance I want us to win all our games and our nearest rivals to lose all of their’s. Can’t say fairer than that!

March 5, 2020 8:33 am

Packy, morning pal 🙂 I know we shouldn’t concern ourselves with them too much but you can’t help laughing. For instance, when the huns got beat by Hearts, Hearts were bottom of the table. Then as a result of Hearts beating Hibs they moved up a place to be replaced at the bottom by Hamilton. So last night sevco got beat by the bottom placed team AGAIN, only it was a different team! They are consistent if nothing else 🙂

Fact is we were poor last night, which is becoming a worrying trend of late. There is some mitigation in that we were trying to play football on a threadbare plastic carpet but it isn’t the 1st time we have played on such surfaces. Sure we ‘battered’ them for the last part of the game when pushing for an equaliser but it was painful to watch at times – a lot of effort for little reward, rinse and repeat football – same tactics over and over with little real penetration and hadn’t it been a for a bit of Eddy magic late on we could have dropped all 3 points. Team seemed disjointed and Lenny’s team selection had me baffled. But the one thing this squad has is character – they kept going and finally thanks to Eddy and Tom we gained a point.

13 points clear and a vastly superior goal difference over the 2nd placed team. But being one of life’s great pessimists I don’t think this is over – just yet ?

March 5, 2020 10:22 am

I hadn’t seen the Henrik interview. Thanks for posting it. We all know what a player he was but what a genuinely unassuming guy. To listen to him talk about the guys he’s played with was absolutely fascinating, and I think he just doesn’t realise he’s up there with them. Not just in the eyes of the Celtic or Sweden supporters but int he eyes of his fellow pros. That video was a real treat, cheers again MIT!

Re last night’s game…who cares at this stage how we got the point. That ground has been our toughest, that team has also been one of our toughest. Tavernier’s programme notes last night talked about how they’ve struggled against teams who get right up against them. So have we, the difference is we’ve managed not to lose as many points in these scraps as they have. We’d all love to see a better structure, better fitba, better use of the squad but ultimately we need to get points on the board. It was disappointing to lose 2 points last night but we’re still in a better position than we started!!

March 5, 2020 10:28 am

On the video Henke talks about the leg break. I know a wee girl who wanted to be a physiotherapist who did work experience at Celtic Park when Henke was trying to get fit again after the leg break. I remember her telling me he put himself through torture to get himself fit, she said the blood-curdling screams in the gym were sickening when he was doing leg weights to build up his leg muscles! Success doesn’t come easy or cheap.

How come our semi final is on the Sunday and not on the Saturday? After the pitch has been ploughed up by the Edinburgh Derby. Our match was first out of the draw. It’s got nothing to do with mid week fixtures previous to it.

March 5, 2020 12:28 pm

Re the semi final. This is where PL should be doing what he gets paid for – making sure we get the Saturday gig! When was the last time? It would make travel etc for Aberdeen and our fans who travel from all over easier especially as it’s the Easter Sunday.

What is wrong with the Burgher’s playing at Murrayfield also on the Saturday?

P.S. I won’t be there but….

A rare 1/2 day for me today so decided to watch the game again.
Made me think. I wonder, how much does stress and emotion influence your analysis of a game?

Last night, we are behind, clock running down, and I’m watching and thinking “ this is fkn awful, cmon tae ff Celtic”

Every misplaced pass or missed half chance has me criticising and panning the players and the manager. I’m sure I’m not alone.

As I say, just watched again in chill mode, and aware of the result obviously, and of course , I’m aware we increased the gap. This time I’m thinking we’re not actually doing too badly .

I’m not saying we were world beaters, far from it, but definitely not as bad as I felt we were last night whilst I was watching in real time and being stressed to the max.

Maybe I should only watch games after they’ve finished and I know the result.

Just me?

confirmation bias they call it. People tend to select/see things that confirm their already held beliefs. … if you are concerned about something, (e.g., will Julien struggle against their CF, or will the team struggle on their pitch) you will perceive more problems … conversely, it may also work the other way … you may be seeing things overly positively if you watch it again knowing that we will get the late goal ….

Yeah you’re almost certainly absolutely correct

. Hope Frimpong is now back for a run in the team. Very direct.

Taylor? Well he’s trying hard on the other side but he really needs to make better use of his final ball. Couple times last night he just needed to lift his head.

Big Julienne clearly doesn’t like that surface!

Eddie has such skill at close quarters. Tremendous awareness and vision.

Big Tam wiz a tad lucky with that winner!

Fra wisnae fouled at their goal. Bad decision to try and collect.

The point turned out to be a vg one.
