A bitch of a pitch
One look at the comments yesterday showed the common theme was we would be doing very well to come away with three points, that we dont do well on that pitch, and their striker can bully us.
All were correct.
We luckily walked away from the night a point to the good in the grand scheme of things and Neil can rightly point to the never say die attitude of his players as a positive to champion.
Once again though we turn in a disjointed performance and while many would just ideally take the points during Winter and leave the pretty playing for the rest of the seasons, theres a school of thought that we have become over reliant on flashes of brilliance from the more gifted players on the pitch.
Having a settled eleven has been beyond us which never helps to forge a system, but thats no reason to not try and instill a style.
Normal times would see the gaffer questioned over his approach and he would be expected to be forthcoming in his rationale and criticisms when due. Did he learn from the previous defeat and was the team selection correct for instance?
“I thought we played great” was not the commonly held view from the faithful about that performance. But normal times these aint and the 9th title by hook or by crook seems to be the majority wish.
Perhaps with the gap grown again our Captain might get a rest here and there and it makes sense to blood our rarely seen strikers. Yesterday was our 52nd game of the season, and some will feel those games acutely. A little rest can work wonders, I hope the gaffer knows and trusts that fact. The squad is huge and there to be dipped into.
There is 13 points separating us from the 2nd place team at present with two more meetings of those teams to come. As witnessed just yesterday our own team can find the going tough on plastic, and our rivals looked to have a gameplan to nullify us and take points, so essentially its not over yet, bigger leads have been blown before.
Our rivals might be imploding but its better to handle your own business rather than have someone else’s mistakes leave you looking good.
We must forget about everyone else and just keep racking up points full stop, even if we are looking likely Champions again.
