Pass it to CAS?
As far as Im concerned the biggest off field news recently was the Sun of all rags getting tipped off about the SFA being on the verge of deciding what course to take regarding Rangers alleged breaches of Uefa rules. Having regulations policed and enforced should be a given, not a hope, and having watched the domestic game be hit by scandal after scandal and sink to shockingly low levels, I can only hope this is the first step of the journey towards a better setup.
It cant get much worse in fairness.
The report itself is very shrewd in its wording for a start, couched in vague hints that give the impression knowing a lot but actually saying little. Of course the investigation may decide something within the next few weeks,,thats a simple fact,,yet it makes the news which then gives it the mysterious gravitas of a top level leak. As its undenied in a statement from headquarters its clearly true, and it could be argued to invent stuff about the head honchos at Hampdump may result in a premature evaluation and abrupt transfer which again grants it some teeth.
But theres no quotable name and no insider source anywhere giving us the lay of the land or any relevant possibly valuable information, usually a no no as you’re then into the opinion column territory. So the writer got a nod its coming and wants to nail that exclusive scoop tag now weeks early? Seems that way.
The Sfa get to start laying groundwork via a minion, thats obvious.
Its notable that the report has taken almost two years to get to this point. Thats small in some legal cases but in footballing terms thats quite a stretch. The investigation into the then groundbreaking Calciopoli scandal for instance took around a similar time and one imagines that would have been much more far reaching. I can only pray theres similar will to see justice done, and it disgusts me to see the old lady of Italian football refuse to acknowledge the stripping of titles by its governing bodies. We also know in that case the second place team was awarded the title(s) which may or may not become very important.
The timing is a matter of conjecture of course but when has that ever stopped us. The conspiracy theorists among us 😉 will be having a field day with the murmurs this is to clear the decks of the previous two teams that played in light blue out of Ibrox, so as to have a clean slate ready for a third resurrection to emerge baggage free.
Another Rangers would take the biscuit imo but you never know in football.
Translategate may have forced the governing bodies hand here, as they really wouldn’t want to send the Huns away with TWO separate charges of bringing the game into disrepute allied with the sectarian stand closures and clothing company court cases everywhere. Getting the old charges dealt with before new ones emerge could be the play here.
With the insistence that any disputes be resolved at CAS inserted in the 5WA that does allow some great wiggle room all around. There wont be anyone fearing for their livelihood or property in Alba for a start, and Johnny Foreigner makes a perfect scapegoat despite the fact they fare better in Europe than at home on the pitch. The members of the SFA board can say our hands were tied by the 5 way, status unaffected.
Bringing the game into disrepute is such a wonderful catchall phrase that seems designed to cover acts of malarkey not specifically imagined when the rules were being laid out. This one revolves around whether or not a bill had crystalized yadda yadda.
You dont need me to explain. Anyone who has been following the Res12 story will be very interested in the next move. We know our club dont feel its in their best interests and have not divulged why exactly that is. At least it seems we are one step closer to closure.
That closure is deserved by some who have fought all our corners from the very start, on behalf of supporters of any and all teams. This decision might not seem that big at all considering some of what we have witnessed over the last decade or so, but for a percentage this will be THE defining moment. Throwing the rulebook out the window when suits just isnt for myself and I imagine quite a few, plus if it happens once it can and more than likely will happen again.
Governance is crucial,,they turn their back on it, many fans of all teams will slowly turn their back on the sport.
They MUST get this one correct.
