The biggest target ?

I enjoy the Friday article, feel it’s important as the weekend tone setter, and was glad it fell to me this week, inwardly looking forward to cracking the knuckles and hammering out the weekly rallying call.

There’s a plethora of subjects to target, the writers dream usually. Any Celtic site worth it’s salt could have a field day over the scandalous decision to allow two mass scale football gatherings after most rational nations had banned such altogether.
Then the cynic in me has been expecting the compliance officer to announce the case regarding the Huns dodgy Euro licence would not be heading to CAS. We grimly recall a Labour ministerial mail which suggested that 9/11 was a good day to bury bad news. Is a similar trick beneath the SFA ?
A boycott of this weekends game would already have a head start backed by logic behind it, another easy subject to target if needed.
Would we get the title if league abandoned,
Should league be abandoned,
The falling share price,
What happens if,
Etc etc

There’s really only one target today though, You!
Each and every one of us is a potential target to this curse of a virus, and no matter what yer man said football is nowhere near as important as life and death, something I hope none of us find out soon.
It was pointed out by our wise colleague SFTB that many bloggers, familiar names that we all know or have interacted with in this hobby of ours, are of the potential problem demographic.
There is a real potential some of us could fall to this virus, there’s no point hiding the fact.
When gov itself is saying many will lose loved ones early then, despite your thoughts on them personally, surely it’s really time to think very hard.

There’s no point in me repeating the available advice of medical experts in the field dealing with this but I can tell you the following, ,,

Should you need to or choose to self isolate this website is going nowhere and although there’s many a character here, well just like that old bar in Cheers sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows your name, and they’re always glad you came.
Isolation neednt be that bad, honestly.

Secondly we do have some local legs in the greater Glasgow area that can and will help any soul in need REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU POST OR WHAT TEAM YOU SUPPORT!
We are all in this together folks and a man in need is exactly that, no more no less.
If you need supplies, , a ride, , whatever it may be, ,
Just email us. Even if not in the greater Glasgow area we may be able to help you. Again, just send a mail. There’s no request too great and the entire resources of the blog will be placed at your disposal. I would be delighted to see the place really help if needed.

The future looks very hard to predict at this point but let’s ride this out together is all I can say. Checking in sometimes can help more than you know.
Do your best to stay safe, ,
You’re all far more precious than three points.
You’ll Never Walk Alone.

Regardless of whether you post or what team you support? Man, it fair warms the old cockles to be part of such a fantastic SUPPORT!

You guys have my e-mail, don’t hesitate to point me in the direction of ANYONE who you think I may be able to help, in any small way. Tim, Bear, Arab or Sheep, makes no difference to me.

What a brilliant article to wake up to! (Even though insomnia is no fun) Well done guys!

Although the Cheltenham Naps competition is now closed-the final top ten was posted on the dedicated Naps Competition page earlier-the honour of picking the winner of The Gold Cup falls to THEEXILEDTIM and there can be few better for the task.

Kev, people don’t want to see mate, no matter the proof you show them!

Check this nonsense. The MF is Tom Hanks son, who decided to strip to tell us his parents have the virus. One thing I won’t need to point out to you is his tattoos -they all have them. I take it you know why they chose the name corona? Hence the massive sun tattoo & the all seeing eye. This has been going on forever.

How people can’t tell he is lying, is fucking beyond me.

A fantastic leader and one of the first I’ve seen that gets that we are all interconnected, we are all equal (no matter what many of us think) and there’s nothing stronger than nature.

Very uncertain times ahead and for the foreseeable future it’s going to be a much more simple lifestyle for most of us.

Things that caused anxiety and division yesterday have suddenly been wiped away.

Following the protocols, protecting the vulnerable are the priorities. Very few of us know what’s ahead.

There have been positive signs in China and South Korea but we don’t know what will happen as restrictions are relaxed.

We don’t know if warmer weather will help. Mr Trump suggested it would, Australia looks to be pretty badly affected.

So it’s one day at a time, gratitude for every breath and as the leader suggests being there for others.

Nice one guys. My sentiments entirely, of anything that’s come out if BoJo’s mouth in the past 5 years, that comment ref Loved Ones is the most profound and meaningful of all. A wake up call indeed.

Has anyone on here already chosen to isolate themselves? Anyone sick & on their own today? If you need anything, and I can get to you, consider leaving a post telling us where you are.

I’m heading up into the hills today, but if I see anyone around needing assistance, and if you want, I can redirect and head to you …even if it’s to go to the shops.

Good thinking. From what I understand it’s about trying to limit exposure to those who have symptoms or have been exposed to the virus.

That’s why I think they’ve closed schools. Most youngsters aren’t high risk but if exposed they’ll bring the condition home and expose others.

The Chinese concentrated on getting people to health facilities and reduced community transmission risks.

I’ve heard of folk doing bag drops of food for people in isolation, making calls, connecting online and just reaching out to people but protecting themselves.

Beyond the illness itself there are implications for anxiety and stress which are serious in themselves and can be mitigated by reaching out as you are.

Having a family member who is currently very ill, it’s amazed me the inner strength that a serious situation can bring to the fore.

Fair play.

CELTIC Football Club is delighted to announce that it has agreed a stunning new five-year partnership with adidas starting July 1st, 2020. adidas will become Celtic’s official kit supplier, covering both the men’s and women’s squads, in a deal which is believed to be the biggest kit sponsorship ever to be announced across Scottish sport.

adidas will create and manufacture first team kit, trainingwear as well as all supporter replica kits.

Treble Treble winners and current Premiership league leaders Celtic will be teaming up with the global leader in football. adidas is the official supplier of the most important football tournaments in the world, such as the FIFA World Cup™, the UEFA EURO 2020™ and the UEFA Champions League.

The sports brand already partners with some of the world’s top clubs including Real Madrid, Manchester United, Arsenal, FC Bayern Munich and Juventus.

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell commented: “We are delighted to enter this new, long-term partnership with adidas, one of the world’s leading sports brands. We warmly welcome adidas to the Celtic Family and look forward to an exciting and successful partnership.

“We know through our discussions with adidas that they, as a prestige brand, were eager to be associated with a Club of Celtic’s stature and proud history – to be connected to the passion and commitment of our supporters and to Celtic’s wider vision and values.

“Likewise, everyone at Celtic is delighted to be partnering with one of the dominant names in sportswear manufacturing, an organisation which represents quality and excellence.

“This is a hugely significant new partnership for Celtic and our supporters and allows us to look to the future with confidence. To be able to create this fantastic new relationship demonstrates the strength and stability of the Club and the power of our enduring story.

“I would like to congratulate everyone at Celtic and adidas who have worked to deliver this fantastic new partnership between two of the world’s great sporting institutions, in particular, our Commercial Director Adrian Filby.”

adidas added, “Celtic’s successful football history and future ambition make us hugely excited to be working together to create a new chapter with one of the most famous football clubs in the world.

“We are obsessed with helping athletes improve their game, life and world and as such we look forward to supporting Celtic’s players on the pitch as they continue to create new levels of success, and we are confident their legendary fanbase will love our designs.”

Well said lads

Dublin is like ’28 days later’ today with the schools/colleges closed and it being Friday anyway. Good few companies have called BCP. We haven’t yet (you can work from home if you need to). But then again, we are capitalists and need to make filthy lucre!

Going for pints after work, will be interesting to see how busy the pubs are. I was in the pub for a bit last night and the staff are not wearing gloves and still handing over your change/card. Deli’s etc have gloves and put the change on the counter

All Uefa competitions, including Champions League and Europa League matches due to be played on 17 and 18 March, have been postponed because of the coronavirus outbreak.

Uefa has announced that the competition draws scheduled for 20 March have also been postponed.

Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has become the first Premier League player to test positive for coronavirus..

March 13, 2020 11:07 am

I arrived back in Canada yesterday afternoon to find that the prime minister has self isolated because his wife has covid-19. Our flights going to Scotland and coming back were one third empty. Few passengers wore masks however the airports are full of people wearing them…..mainly people of Asian descent. Since the mask is more of a device to prevent spread of the virus than a self protection, it speaks well of those who choose to wear them.

Hotels that we stayed in had hand sanitizer bottles available at the front desk but the real concern has to be how well the rooms are cleaned……judging by one hotel where we spent six nights, we shall be lucky to avoid the virus if anyone brought it into the room. Most hotels seem hopelessly unprepared for what is about to happen.

Why did I travel when I am in the seventies age group? My brother is dying of pancreatic and lung cancers so there was no choice. I would choose to do the same again.

I have no confidence in the UK Government’s plans to deal with this and certainly none in the Scottish response to this. Take football as an example, Sevco’s need for revenue seems to be driving the agenda. To permit 50,000 fans to gather together and then disperse using all forms of transport and food/beverage establishments is bordering on criminality, IMHO.

Eventually, the season will be postponed,if not cancelled but not before more suffering occurs.

ALDI: 2 Tents 1 Diving Suit 1 Soldering Iron

March 13, 2020 11:41 am

I suspect that Sunday will be the last football we see this side of Easter.

At best.

My thoughts are that UEFA will postpone the Euros till next year-a lot easier for them than usual as the draw hasn’t yet been made, and the tournament isn’t taking place in a host country as is usually the case.

If so,the season will probably be extended for about a month, with the start of next season, including qualifiers, delayed by two weeks.

The return to normality will, however, only be possible if normality is suspended for a period. Due to my job,my personal interaction with others is very limited. That’s lucky for me under the circumstances, and lucky for everyone else under normal circumstances! But the same cannot be said for everyone.

My biggest concern, actually,is home visitors, such as social workers and, particularly, care assistants. These people by definition are visiting vulnerable people, and in close proximity too.

They NEED to do their jobs or those vulnerable will suffer. But if they become infected by this highly contagious virus, they will be carrying it unknowingly to all of their clients.

Literally cannot do right for doing wrong. Nightmare scenario.

March 13, 2020 12:03 pm

Folks, thanks for the congrats on today’s article. While it is all the handiwork of Mahe,it echoes my sentiments too.

I’m sure that many of us will be helping others even more than usual in the coming weeks. Mainly by picking up supplies for elderly friends and relations who feel unable to go out lest they put themselves and others at risk,or-let’s hope not!-for those who have contracted it. Supermarkets deliver these days, but their systems are becoming increasingly overwhelmed, and my friends who don’t have transport know my number. That van of mine has done some social work in its time!

As a word of advice on this. If possible,do your shopping overnight at a 24-hour store. That’s easy for me,and it’s when I always do my shopping. In and out in no time. Less personal contact too.

I was in Tesco Swindon, today discussing a delivery issue with their side and the last time I saw it that busy was Christmas Eve ten years ago. Coincidentally the last time I went to a supermarket during the day, unless the stuff could fit in one carrier bag.

(People are obviously concerned and want to ensure that their family has enough to get through an emergency. But surely, feed a cold and starve a fever,no?)

March 13, 2020 12:04 pm

Bloody hell. Cancel Sunday plans!

March 13, 2020 12:10 pm

Don’t waste your money on face masks for normal daily activities! Numerous health organisations have claimed that at best the protection offered is very limited, a placebo one may say. Ill fitting, used to much, used incorrectly etc. Best precaution is ‘staying the feck away’ from other people. Washing hands thoroughly and not touching yer coupon.

Interesting reading tweets from UK based GP’s and doctors yesterday in response to Boris’s measures to contain the spread of Corona. Most claim that if the ‘outbreak’ in the UK is as bad as the worse case scenario suggest that the Governments response basically amounts to nothing more than survival of the fittest. Hoping that the majority of the population will develop the virus, in a mild form, and thereby the UK population is ‘herd immunised’. The NHS will not be able to cope with the predicted numbers of those with pre- existing medical conditions or the elderly who have been infected.

Bon chance mes amis

March 13, 2020 12:17 pm

That horrible moment when you find your prized possession has been stolen.

March 13, 2020 12:18 pm

You could say that the postponement all all Scots football starting today actually suits the team playing out of Ibrox.

They are dead on their feet whereas Celtic are absolutely flying… and, for once, well rested.
They would not have been able to compete on Sunday (…nor in Germany next week).

Off the hook again…

March 13, 2020 12:21 pm

I suppose i shouldn’t really make light heartedness of such severe times, but if you don’t put on a brave face n smile n all that eh ?

The same applies here as the other blog users, if anyone needs anything in and around the central belt, Glasgow area, just shout out and if i can help in any way this weekend, it’s done

March 13, 2020 12:37 pm

anyone think ‘das hun’ have insurance to cover game postponements / cancellations? Nah me neither

looks like we will see a lot or professional players out playing kerby and cuttin aboot on their bikes now that they can’t play football?

Wee cyberhug for R from me,mate.

March 13, 2020 12:43 pm

I would have thought in saying the game will be played at a later date no refunds are due which suits them.
In saying that, it’s hard to see where some clubs will find the cash to survive if you have players on full whack but no games. The governing bodies gonna help?
What a mess.

Hail Hail

March 13, 2020 12:45 pm

Won’t be Celtic players playing Kerbie. None of them can throw the ball accurately enough, and they’re certainly not used to getting it back!

Hope you figure out the best plan for what should have been your St Johnstone weekend.

March 13, 2020 12:46 pm

In saying that, it’s hard to see where some clubs will find the cash to survive if you have players on full whack but no games. The governing bodies gonna help?
What a mess.
SFA have already said there will be no financial help. Clubs must look after themselves via insurance cover and the goodwill of supporters not asking for refunds.

March 13, 2020 12:48 pm

Corporate insurance. If your house collapses or burns down, you’re covered. If you decide against cover, then you have to believe in a better world that the one we live in. Or,of course, you simply cannot afford it. Which happens.

March 13, 2020 12:53 pm

ha ha, great point on the Celtic throw ins – strange that one. i probably won’t travel now unless i can set it up as a meeting mates gig. My guaranteed pal for a Leo Sayer is currently in hospital with a dodgy gall bladder (needs infection to go down then back in 2 weeks later to remove it). I wonder if the 2 statements above are related?

March 13, 2020 12:55 pm

Is everyone stocked up or living life as normal?

March 13, 2020 1:05 pm

Up in NE Scotland everything is fairly normal apart from shops having no bog roll and antibacterial cleaning products being limited to a couple of items each customer. Passed a McD’s an hour ago ,full to the brim with a long line waiting to be served. Yet to see one face mask in this part of the world.

March 13, 2020 1:05 pm

Mahe i am living as normal, she who must be obeyed is stocking up on paint, in case i cannot get to work. Grrrr.. ?

March 13, 2020 1:09 pm

Great article Mahe and BMCUWP.
Stocked up?
Yes and no.
Stepson with autism has a self inflicted limited diet so the bread he likes we buy 8 at a time and freeze.
Have a freezer here thats usually stocked but a prolonged situation could see that diminish.
Can’t put my finger on it but have the feeling as others have alluded to that something much bigger is at play.

The ramifications for football are huge.
Posted the other night that the new tech savvy/tv driven football audience were unlikely to continue watching games in empty arena’s.
I tried watching PSG v Dortmund and though the football was technically good it was not engaging without fans.emotional content and atmosphere.
Will these fickle fans find an some other fad to capture their attention?
Even in Scotland fans who have treated shoddily by police and audiences for years many will find alternatives that actually lead to a better /more pleasant experience.

March 13, 2020 1:13 pm

Cheers lads. Considering stocking up tbh.

Bobby, we do have a quiz already prepared for some weekend now life is without the sacred sport that we complain about all day yet feel lost when it’s not there.

March 13, 2020 1:15 pm

On my travels i often had the benefit of a hand shower attached to the toilet to spray your bum.
Have them on my toilets and one bidet at home.
The bidet actually has a hot air drier.
Minimum toilet paper needed and if i run out my wee furry dog may have to be used as an alternative.
Life’s little luxury’s.

March 13, 2020 1:15 pm

Beppe tells me “the guy in Naples” is reported to have found a vaccine.

March 13, 2020 1:17 pm

This is probably the cue for many to drop their TV sports subscriptions also, not that i feel any pain for BT or Sky, but it will have knock on effects, throughout, Shops are doing booming sales as I noticed yesterday, lots of empty shelves, with only a selection of many needless items remaining, unless someone has a fetish for things like Brasso and Firelighters. Hope your stepson rides this through with no ill effects.
