Whats the story, Bol-in-goli ?
It doesn’t rain but it pours and fate just keeps finding another angle to get a good punch in. On the pitch, and off it, there are big questions surrounding the club, where most of us would prefer total concentration on the important sequence of games coming up, at a time when there are already distractions aplenty. The quest for ten has not started well its fair to say.
Football itself is now at the mercy of Gov, who just had to comment seeing as the biggest club in the national sport had failed protocols mere weeks into the season, to put it in the same bracket as the other big clubs that had seen procedures break down, something which had previously halted games. They’ll be furious, and although the player has tested negative twice since returning from Espana, they must and will act in some capacity have no doubt, as the pressure will be unrelenting from those that seek a title upset, the fans with typewriters, and the Twitteratzi.
Its simply a sign that footballers couldn’t be trusted when it came down to it.
A points fine would be ridiculous as the club are innocent here.
A player ban and personal fine sounds about right.
The club probably wish they had never heard of his name now, its fair to say his time with us has been a failure, although this breach doesn’t necessarily mean his career will be hugely damaged due to the fact we are in uncharted waters, but its hard to see anything other than a goodbye coming up. Sure the PLC won’t want to lose him for free, so that could mean making him available instantly for a transfer thus shunning the player publicly, but there’s not a snowball’s chance in hell of getting anywhere near the reported 3 million fee back. After Bayo, Shved, this one would be another big ouch, we can but hope lessons are being learned when it comes to all these punts.
A half a million should take him with a thanks and meanwhile Rapid Vienna are still laughing.
The break itself throws up more questions about THAT draw, as in wtf exactly did we have a break for? There’s only three league games in September, and the Euro ties burden has been reduced hugely by one off ties meaning zero disruption and travel for the home team, which happens to be us, assuming of course football is still allowed at all. Lenny didn’t bring up the fact perhaps the players were sluggish after a few days off, and gave the impression fitness was involved. If thats the case, shouldn’t they have been in training? I don’t know if we will get to the bottom of why this mini break happened but if that performance was the result then no more breaks Neil.
One thing we don’t associate with a Neil Lennon team is one defeat signifying the beginning of a purple patch. He wasn’t like that as a player, and his Celtic team aren’t like that at all, so we can expect the same players again being given a chance to redeem themselves and given a pre match reminder there are many in the squad who would love their position.
We will win on Wednesday, a certainty, but hopefully we have some semblance of a gameplan rather than our best players producing magic, which is clearly our Plan A but yet our Achilles Heel when those players are negated by cloggers and or refs.
We could hit back with our own double whammy, an on and off field combo, a pronounced victory and some incoming talent, which although doesnt make up for THAT draw certainly will help overall if the chap is quality. A couple of signings with an emphatic victory would be a real big statement of intent that many would appreciate, and rivals would quiver at.
Speaking of rivals, its actually much easier to be the hunter rather than the hunted, as they are about to naively find out. It felt natural for Celtic to be at the top of the pile, being the biggest club, stadium, budget etc, and the subsequent pressures with being at the leagues pinnacle just seemed to come hand in hand with being at a giant club.
All that pressure now rests on shoulders that have never felt such a burden, and so early with plenty of time to falter or be caught.
Its tough at the top as the old saying goes.
They can run but they can’t hide. We will find players, our rhythm, and pour the pressure on.
Let’s enjoy the thrill of the hunt for a change.
The above is by Mahe.
