Whats the story, Bol-in-goli ?

It doesn’t rain but it pours and fate just keeps finding another angle to get a good punch in. On the pitch, and off it, there are big questions surrounding the club, where most of us would prefer total concentration on the important sequence of games coming up, at a time when there are already distractions aplenty. The quest for ten has not started well its fair to say.

Football itself is now at the mercy of Gov, who just had to comment seeing as the biggest club in the national sport had failed protocols mere weeks into the season, to put it in the same bracket as the other big clubs that had seen procedures break down, something which had previously halted games. They’ll be furious, and although the player has tested negative twice since returning from Espana, they must and will act in some capacity have no doubt, as the pressure will be unrelenting from those that seek a title upset, the fans with typewriters, and the Twitteratzi.
Its simply a sign that footballers couldn’t be trusted when it came down to it.
A points fine would be ridiculous as the club are innocent here.
A player ban and personal fine sounds about right.

The club probably wish they had never heard of his name now, its fair to say his time with us has been a failure, although this breach doesn’t necessarily mean his career will be hugely damaged due to the fact we are in uncharted waters, but its hard to see anything other than a goodbye coming up. Sure the PLC won’t want to lose him for free, so that could mean making him available instantly for a transfer thus shunning the player publicly, but there’s not a snowball’s chance in hell of getting anywhere near the reported 3 million fee back. After Bayo, Shved, this one would be another big ouch, we can but hope lessons are being learned when it comes to all these punts.
A half a million should take him with a thanks and meanwhile Rapid Vienna are still laughing.

The break itself throws up more questions about THAT draw, as in wtf exactly did we have a break for? There’s only three league games in September, and the Euro ties burden has been reduced hugely by one off ties meaning zero disruption and travel for the home team, which happens to be us, assuming of course football is still allowed at all. Lenny didn’t bring up the fact perhaps the players were sluggish after a few days off, and gave the impression fitness was involved. If thats the case, shouldn’t they have been in training? I don’t know if we will get to the bottom of why this mini break happened but if that performance was the result then no more breaks Neil.

One thing we don’t associate with a Neil Lennon team is one defeat signifying the beginning of a purple patch. He wasn’t like that as a player, and his Celtic team aren’t like that at all, so we can expect the same players again being given a chance to redeem themselves and given a pre match reminder there are many in the squad who would love their position.
We will win on Wednesday, a certainty, but hopefully we have some semblance of a gameplan rather than our best players producing magic, which is clearly our Plan A but yet our Achilles Heel when those players are negated by cloggers and or refs.

We could hit back with our own double whammy, an on and off field combo, a pronounced victory and some incoming talent, which although doesnt make up for THAT draw certainly will help overall if the chap is quality. A couple of signings with an emphatic victory would be a real big statement of intent that many would appreciate, and rivals would quiver at.

Speaking of rivals, its actually much easier to be the hunter rather than the hunted, as they are about to naively find out. It felt natural for Celtic to be at the top of the pile, being the biggest club, stadium, budget etc, and the subsequent pressures with being at the leagues pinnacle just seemed to come hand in hand with being at a giant club.
All that pressure now rests on shoulders that have never felt such a burden, and so early with plenty of time to falter or be caught.

Its tough at the top as the old saying goes.
They can run but they can’t hide. We will find players, our rhythm, and pour the pressure on.
Let’s enjoy the thrill of the hunt for a change.

The above is by Mahe.

He should be sacked this morning . Ass fired out the door.

Harsh. Yeah probably. If it were Eddie would I be saying the same thing? Hmmm. Ok maybe not. Can I change my mind?

Ok I will

A good kick up the arse he needs.

A mini break? Listening to NL after Sunday’s shit show, he said “ the players just lacked a bit of fitness”

Was giving players who are not yet fully fit a break the best way to improve their fitness levels?

Rhetorical. Of course it wasn’t.

Is discipline becoming an issue for us?

All of that aside – where’s the signings for the back 4?

Where’s the bite yer baws midfielder we need?

We are being linked with many front players, Arguably the area we least need players . Time left I , accept that.

Makes me wonder though. Are we moving too slowly? Not that moving slowly is necessarily a bad thing. However – standing still? That IS a problem.

Off you fuck Bolingoli and take your selfishness with you. I have worked in a high risk environment from day dot of the Covid 19 outbreak and the medical professionals that I speak with every day constantly highlight how dangerous this contagion can be to people regardless of age, health issues etc. His actions could have had serious repercussions for the players and crippled the club. It’ll be interesting to see how the club discipline him, I doubt they’ll get rid of a three million pound player, but they need to hammer the message home especially after Griffiths indiscretion and the sheep players shenanigans and the implications for the game here.

Mahe, I meant to add that we’ve had wobbly starts to some seasons particularly in the opening six games, we’ll come good. As for William, let them do what they always do.

Twisty, it appears that it’s just rumour after rumour with regards to signings with Shane Duffy allegedly coming to the club a perfect example of this. No one knows what’s going on with transfers particularly the fish wrapper brigade that is the Scottish sports media, it’s all just talk with nothing concrete. Doing things at a certain pace has its benefits, as a doctor used to always say to me “Robert, slow is smooth and smooth is fast” not sure I buy that to be honest, but I get what he means. Lol

Hi Mahe,

Great title… and wouldn’t we all like to know?

Love your confidence re-Wednesday… a certainty??

My understanding would be a track and trace on those those who Boli came into contact with… now not knowing the football protocols re-masks and social distancing i.e. maybe between Club officials and coaches that would be possible, obviously not between players… the protection in that case is simply the “bubble” and testing, testing, testing…

Once that “bubble” is broke by the way of a breach, in this case – of quarantine, then the testing can’t mitigate that breach and give requisite assurance as the virus can take over a week to show.

That means a weeks quarantine for Boli and at least a week for the players since they last got together, presumably Sunday.

In other words I’d be very surprised if anything other that a quarantine of the whole Club to Monday 17th, wholesale testing and checking for symtoms takes place then. After all results are negative then an all clear for the Club on say Tuesday 18th. Anything other than that is an unacceptable risk.

Then what of the Kilmarnock players that were put at risk? Do they isolate?

The “hunted” could include a few Clubs by then, being several (up to 8!?) points ahead… that’s if, and it’s a big if, the Scottish Government don’t take a decision for football.

It’s interesting, when the Aberdeen players sneaked out to the City-centre Sunday last, CQN gave their Chairman pelters. I’m not so sure Big Pedro will get such treatment but the questions remain.

Anyone with a modicum of common… was scratching their head over the Griff affair, they will be dumbfounded by the Boli fiasco… How could it happen?

A while back I stated that Celtic being “a well run Club” was a myth and that the Board were indolent.

Maybe others are seeing that now; the way the 2019/20 refund, 2020/21season ticket, Adidas launch, VST launch all were handled proved it to me… there have been many cases in recent years, not least giving our caretaker manager the fulltime position while in the shower.

The fact is, Brendan Rodgers and Chris Davies were first class professionals with a reputation for being first into Lennoxtown and last out.

Celtic sold their then team management structure to Leicester for £9M compensation… four top quality staff went.

Celtic PLC’s response, to bring Lenny in and promote “the talent” from within, then trouser the money. How could that ever equate?

Big Pedro has been cruising on easy street for far too long.

If Celtic want to see their 2020/21 ambitions met and not become the laughing stock of Scottish Football… some tuff competition I know… they must clear out this Board and get some young talented professionals in, then have a root and branch review of their football operation and they must do it pronto!!!

Hail Hail

Good morning Mahe.
Three things perturb me about this Bolingoli story. Firstly, the player flouting Scottish Government rules in the Covid crisis, secondly, the implications of his actions, and of Griff and the Aberdeen 8 and huns friendly against Dundee United, in terms of the continuation of Scottish fitba this season. Thirdly, I have a suspicion that the very high standards of discipline set by Brendan Rodgers are being allowed to slip under our current manager. I have no proof of the latter, but it is a growing feeling I have. It will be interesting to see how this story develops. I really can’t believe that the team were given enough time off to be able to holiday in Spain, between the Hamilton and Kilmarnock games. Surely they should be in everyday at Lennoxtown, working on fitness and tactics?
No wonder we were so poor on Sunday.

August 11, 2020 8:00 am

The Scottish Government (SG) would be well within their rights to pause or end the professional game in Scotland which two matches into the season has proved it simply cannot be trusted. The huns playing a match with some players untested, the Aberdeen 8, Griffiths non-compliant party and now Bolingoli.

The SG gave the professional game a dispensation to start the season on the understanding that the clubs would ensure their employees would comply with all of the guidance. In a relatively short period of time, Scottish football has palpably failed to do so and the SG has to act. When news of the Aberdeen 8 broke, Nicola Sturgeon stated that the game in Scotland was on its final warning. Bolingoli’s actions was the game’s last chance and the game as a whole now has to be punished. Even if the club sanction the player, that will not be enough as SG has to be seen to be taking firm action otherwise it loses face with the public. Look what happened when Cummings was allowed to break the rules. The public’s attitude to supporting the Government’s campaign changed at that moment and hasn’t returned. It would also help to deflect attention away from the exams results debacle which is a major wobble for the SG at the moment.

Eradicating the virus in Scotland is the SG’s number one objective. If it is or is seen to be, succesful then that would then be followed up by a massive victory for the pro-independence/2nd referendum parties in next year’s Scottish elections. Putting ten in a row at risk doesn’t come remotely close to the ultimate prize of an independent Scotland for the SG and I suspect, a growing proportion of the electorate. I include myself in that category.

August 11, 2020 8:05 am

Very good post which I agree with 100%.
Regarding your last point. If I was to be given an either or choice, 10 in a row or Scottish independence? I would choose the latter too.

August 11, 2020 8:05 am

This is outrageous. if true
Played a week past Sunday, apparently given 4 days off, then training Friday and Sat Why would we give players 4 days off at start of season? Why were players who hadnt played allowed 4 days off?
No wonder they played as if it was pre season, they’d just been on holiday.
As for Boli,…… Aaaaaagggghhh

August 11, 2020 8:12 am

Yep don’t disagree that doing things at measured pace can have its benefits.

Old Chinese proverb as alluded to in my previous post

“Be not afraid of growing slowly, be afraid only of standing still.”

I’m a fan of Chinese proverbs.

My favourite being

“ man with hole in pocket feel cocky, but man with hole in two pockets not feel too cocky”

Ok maybe that one isn’t true… ?

August 11, 2020 9:16 am

Absolute shambles, how did this fiasco happen? discipline at club seems to be zero. . Leigh then Boli, Celtic need to get rid of both. They are sucking wages fro club. Leigh may have talent but that’s no use if unable to play, no good to fellow players and fans who pay his wages.

A bloody break, , aye right, poor wee souls. Boli went abroad came home mixed with players, backroom staff, etc. who might he have infected. Is it possible to play st. mirren. don’t think so, also euro game. I think Celtic are shafted here.

There as Chairbhoy stated a root and branch clear out new forward thing board. sorry imo a new management team. Needs someone with new vision on style of play and formation. I was astounded on Sunday when camera showed both Neil and John looking perplexed as how to turn game around. Killie played according to their game plan, referee decisions debatable allowing tackles unpunished on Celtic players and allowing timewasting. I have noticed ref’s anti Celtic decisions in the four games played in scotland this season.

As The Stranglers sung things have gotta change.

I am scunnered, well done Celtic, Ammunition for thems, round of applause.

I think that Scottish fitba and Celtic FC are fucked here. Nicola Sturgeon basically gave Scottish fitba a final warning after the Aberdeen 8 incident. She cannot be seen to be weak.
The Icelandic FA will be looking closely alongside UEFA, at this. Our Champions league campaign could be over before it begins.
Hope you are doing well Mario.

Bolingoli & Griffiths should have their contracts terminated with immediate effect. Strange that little is being said about Griffs’ blatant disregard of the ‘social distancing / numbers in groups’ protocols. Both incidents are tantamount to the same thing a disregard for the well being of others and serious case of ‘feck you, i’m ok syndrome’ as well as a probable act of gross misconduct.
As far as the Scots government using this as some type of political smokescreen to cover up their shambolic handling of the exam results, as has been mentioned, feck that also. Why pick on football? The Aberdeenshire beaches were mobbed in the good weather and not a police man to be seen, hardly a word in the press about it yet a handful of footballers break the rules and its suddenly end of days and punitive action being spoken about. I am sure that the footballers aren’t the only individuals who went into a work place the following day after flouting the rules on social distancing.

But back to Celtic’s 2 miscreants – no way back, oot the door asap – or as soon as PL can find someone to buy them.

August 11, 2020 11:49 am

Excellent article again,mucker-but don’t be writing the word certainty against a Celtic fixture again please,I’m having palpitations here.

Can’t say how pissed off I am with Bolingoli, actions of the utmost utter stupidity. The game will be fortunate indeed not to suffer the ultimate sanction from the Scottish Government because of this selfish prick. And NL should not escape censure either for giving players four days off, admittedly probably the last break they will get for a while due to the fixture list.

Should he be fired? There’s a good case for it,and that was probably my first reaction. On reflection, the answer is no. Twists nailed it earlier,we wouldn’t be calling for the head of the miscreant if it was another player, and the SFA can do nothing about it due to their failure to sanction certain other clubs for similar or worse. I think though that the SPFL and SG need to agree that such failures lead to an eight-week suspension, say, for offending players, and the SPFA need to agree that withholding wages for that period is an appropriate punishment.

In addition,I think that clubs need to insist on each of their players being available at a given time each day off for a brief Zoom call to identify their location, such calls to be recorded and held for a minimum two week period. If some players are seen,as a result,to have screwed things up for everyone else,so be it. They shouldn’t have screwed up in the first place!

August 11, 2020 12:11 pm

Apparently the squad were only given 2 days off? If that is the case Why the hell would you fly to Spain for basically 1 night. Strange indeed. Also Lenny saying players are ‘rusty’ yet allows them time off after 1 competitive game – shouldn’t they be training with our expensive CB ‘Juilet’ in the weights room beefing up or at least having a shot or 2 of testosterone.

August 11, 2020 12:34 pm

Dear oh dear!

Time off after one competitive game! What was the manager thinking? Did he get the time off also? Why decide to give them a break when, in game 1, he deferred using subs to give the first team more game time in their legs? It makes no sense.

Both Griff and Boli should be finished at the club and probably are. I doubt that they will be released but they should be told to find other clubs. The loss on Boli will be offset by not having to pay the prat for the rest of his contract. In Griff’s case, the situation is exacerbated by his mental health issues, but his recent breach absolves the club of this responsibility because it threatens both peoples’s health and the viability of the club. I am afraid that NL’s responses that his behaviour was no big deal is another example of poor judgement. What example did those comments give to the other players, Boli included?

Will the SG call time on this season? They certainly have their case made for them from the existing incidents cited by many on this blog. I suspect that they will not act so decisively at this juncture. Tighter protocols and monitoring will be demanded of clubs and players.

For myself, the last week has soured my enjoyment of the professional game. However, it does illustrate that football is a reflection of society……similar lack of common sense and decency can be found in both.

Boli Bolingoli is an employee of Celtic and the responsibly of the Club. His stupidity is clear and this grave situation now badly reflects on the Club. I wonder if others within the Club management structure will step forward and take some responsibility for allowing this situation to happen.

August 11, 2020 1:51 pm

We now have lots of free time with two games postponed.
Just maybe we can use the time to try and make a football team out of the talented individuals we have at the club?
Maybe Celtic plc can start acting like a football club instead of a profiteering plc and instill some professionalism on the football department?
The plc will act if we lose the European income stream but bad domestic results will just see their attack dogs and deflective apologist’s on blogs go after genuine Celtic fans.
