Speaking of Newbury,I’ve only been there twice. Both times for The Lockinge Stakes. First one was about 92,to watch Selkirk. What a horse over a mile that was,an absolute steal at 3-1. I wept no tears for the bookies that day. Actually,I think Mystiko was running in that, reminds me of that horse somehow thrashing Marju in The 2000 Guineas a year earlier. I got my own back by backing the fourth that day in The Derby at rather “Generous” odds of 10-1. Anyway,I should have invested my winnings better than I did,cos the next time I went was to watch FRANKEL.
I would have needed to have robbed a bank on the way there, actually maybe one each in Swindon,Reading and Newbury as I got on and off trains,to have made it worthwhile to have a bet. In fact,it’s the only time I can remember not having a winner at a meeting-I put on a ton at 6-1 on a horse elsewhere called Mince before I left,it won at 2-1 by nearly as much as FRANKEL that day.
But for once, this was not a day at the races which revolved around beating the bookies, that wasn’t the reason I was there. And I’m glad I was. Even on shocking ground, that horse was a work of art and a fitting send-off to his legendary trainer.

Good story Bobby. The last time I was at the races was about 20 years ago. Hamilton on Fair Friday evening. I spent about £50 and won nothing! Not been back since 🙂

ATHINGOFBEAUTY and I went to Hamilton on September Monday last year. I’d never been there before, and I don’t think my sis had ever been at the races before. My plan, for six races, all at six furlongs, was a tenner a race and fifty on my nap.
The ground was atrocious, which was why the whole meeting was over the same sprint distance, which required permission of course. Turns out my nap was in the second, and I got 9-2 on it. so I stuck to my plan, but with the addition of fifty on my next best. Got 4-1 on it,the others lost. Like I cared!
Day started with a nice wee cup of tea and a caramel wafer for my sis in The Hilton next door while I had a pint. Felt like buying the place when I came out!
Highly recommended, even if it did cost £25 to get in.

NAPS – WEEK 6
With sincere apologies for the tardiness in updating. attached below is the table for week 6. Two winners , both on the same horse, which easily won at 3/1.
Bobby – and – Jimmy not Paul take the plaudits. Very well done to both.
Quite a few place points last week, and none so unlucky as The Real McCoy who was denied a huge priced winner by the shortest of margins. To the other 6 places, Calton, VP, Lefty, Mea C, Celtic Champs and Valleybhoy, tad unlucky fellas but a few points grabbed nonetheless.
As ever – I will recheck later but shout if you spot an error.

Week 7
Naps Update
Morning all.
Couple of winners yesterday and a few rattled off the bar.
The plaudits yesterday go to Chalmersbhoy and Big Packy who had winners at nice odds of 4/1 and 7/2 respectively. Both shoot up the table with B.P. slotting into 3rd spot and Chalmersbhoy is elevated to the top 6.
Nice winners boys. A few of us threatened but places were all that was left as they passed the post.
Table ( subject to check- I did find a couple of minor errors on week 6 table which have been rectified)
