Six of the best

We might have preferred a few warm up games, but in the end it didnt really matter,, we were always gonna go out and smash whoever was in front of us, such was the pent up frustration surrounding the club following THAT draw. The Icelanders were unfortunate in that regard, but the gulf in class was evident from the get go, so they can have no complaints about their exit at our hands.

The selection raised some eyebrows but should be seen as a kick up the ass for both regulars dropped, rather than a new first choice 11. At least thats how I read the situation.
Fan-a-tic is forever pointing out how Bitton is often caught on the wrong side of his man, and I’ve seen it myself, but the big Israeli strolled through the game, as did the other draftee El Hamed.
He especially didn’t blitz forward like his counterpart, leaving James the wing to himself, for better or worse.

On the left side though Taylor did have licence to roam with Calmac covering at least initially, and bhoy he enjoyed it, so much he even scored! The kid looked to be enjoying his football, on a mission, and got some just rewards. He laid a marker that the left back spot is mine, and it will be fought for. I hope to see more performances like that from our young native.
That left side produced another couple goals through our loanee Ellyanoussi, who showed quality to score twice but needs to make that level consistent.

Lenny will be pleased with what he saw, and rightfully so as we showed purpose and intent,,one touch play and the Celtic way in spells which is very encouraging. I expected no less, we always bounce back under this manager, his disdain for losing must show. He will be especially happy at the spread of goals, two midfield, two defence, two (almost) for Odsonne.
Hopefully those he left out find a bit of fire in their bellies to regain that spot, and a 6 zip win without isnt ideal, but competition for places should drive up standards, and last night was a great start in that.

The opponents were not awful, could have scored a couple although the keeper looked out of his depth at this level, so theres a lot of heart to be taken. Our new striker didn’t get his dream debut as hoped for, perhaps due to being stuck on as part of a duet with Paddy Klimala, who was looking to play in those spots and space himself. Ah well, plenty time.

The fans (and perhaps the season) needed a kickstart, and they got it. We can play well when on point, have good players to win games, and a blip is exactly that, a rare occurrence. Its now up to the management team to keep the standard of performance high, league winning high.
We seen glimpses last night of just how devastating we can be when we click,,those glimpses become the norm the league is ours.
Well done bhoys.

So, Barca announce Koeman as new manager, with Alfred Schreuder, as his number 2. I am hearing Henrik Larsson to be his second assistant.

Would love to HL back in the game, and he always looked good in a barca jersey.

Maybe he will sign up as a player coach, so they can team him up with Messi for one last hurrah, while he is coaching Greizeman to take over Messi’s mantle as their number 1 striker.

I know HL is 48 now… but, he looks fit enough to keep playing!

Watching Sky sports news here in the USA and some interesting stats appeared on screen.
Liverpool had 3 players in top 10 of touches per games and passes also.Virgil Van Djik ,Trent Alexander Arnold and Robertson.
Strangely Liverpool had no one in the tackling bracket whereas the often maligned Wan Bassaka won the most tackles.Rice of West Ham and Ndidi of Leicester both appear on tackling and interceptions.
Numbers suggest high pressing negates the necessity of desperate tackles and forces opponents to concede possession.
The key is whole team has to press and compress space as a unit for maximum effect.
Grealish was by some distance the most fouled EPL player.Villa should spend more time on their dead ball plays..

Good luck to Tom Rogic. I remember some fans used to get slightly annoyed at the amount of time away on International duty. Around 40 caps during his Celtic career. The extra travelling involved was the bugbear. And the timing of some tournaments Australia was involved in. ie outwith our normal international breaks.

Hi Everyone,

Well my fears were groundless about the tie last night. That was a very poor Reykjavik team. I had hoped we might see a promising CB amongst them, but “No” both CB’s looked poor.To be fair, their performance improved after their subs came on…..the blonde guy out on their left wing/back took the game to us.

You cannot argue with 6 goals so overall the team was effective.

I thought Elyanoussi, El Hamed and Bitton stood out over the piece.

We saw the best and the worst of Taylor. He gives 150% and deserved the reward of a goal..a header too, oh the irony! He has good speed and a desire to get up the park. On the downside, his crosses are often blocked and after gaining ground, he often passes the ball backwards. Maybe as he gets more confidence, he will continue on to the bye line to offer cut backs. Hope this is seen as constructive criticism because I wish to encourage him.

I am still a bit concerned about high balls in our penalty area. Their “goal” was a result of two headers in our box. Against a better team this could turn into a real problem.

I wonder about the wisdom of playing Ajeti…he looked lacking in physical fitness, never mind match fitness, but I shall rely on NL knowing best of this one.

Next round will be much tougher,

Rebus

jimthetim53

Packy, Afghan’s post read – to me – like he misses that chat between a few posters on the night shift who could exchange a lot for a while. It’s not quite like that on the day shift.

A thing of beauty

Iโ€™ll miss the magic Tom rogic provided. The moments that got you off your seat as his big twinkle toes danced through a defence but they were so rare and fleeting of late a parting of the ways is inevitable. We have two very high earners in him and Leigh Griffiths giving us zero contribution now. Itโ€™s time to Move on. Our team needs two centre halfโ€™s, a holding midfielder and a left back. If we have to sell to fund this then we should. I would not be averse to Ajer going either but I fear we have made him our morelos. I feel we have allowed a lot of shit talk about how much we can get for him (25m was mentioned) when this is simply not realistic. If we get 8-10 we should take it and with rogic money as well we could sign a couple of decent players who would contribute towards 10 in a row.
Fan is absolutely correct that last night that team created too much consternation in our defence. We need an organiser in there to babysit julienne. He has at least one mistake in him every game and this has got to stop. I feel he is too casual and having someone alongside him who will give him a rocket will lead to improvement.
We are too reliant on the same core of players and we need some proven pros in to make us better.
Mahe,
Hope the wee one enjoys the pre school. I
Estimate you have around 2 years before itโ€™s back to the coalface for you!!

No need for anyone to be going anywhere. Debate and different opinions are healthy. Letโ€™s face it, if we all agreed it would be a bit of a waste of time.

ASWGL

Evening all, hope you are all well, the game was good last night (for the score), it was good for the players to get some much needed game time, even though the opposition were not a team we can judge our real strengths and weaknesses on, I don’t think we’ll get many easier games this season in the SPFL or Europe.

This isn’t directed to anyone in particular, Mahe and Bobby set up the blog so like minded Celtic supporters could chat and debate on all things Celtic related, where truths and ideas could be discussed, it has provided a refreshing outlet for many people (myself included). I’m not going to tell porkies and say i agree with everything i read here, but i respect that others have their opinions, and they are most certainly entitled to them.

If i see something I disagree with, I may offer an alternative view, but I will not expect that poster to accept it, or I may remain quiet and say nothing. Everyone has an opinion, and they are entitled to have one. The blog is unique in that, it has also thrown up some diverse avenues, The Naps, The Scores predictor, and on the whole is good fun, with some excellent daily articles by our hosts. I for one am grateful we can enjoy such a place.

I hope Afghan isn’t away, and fan should not think of going either, I’m 100% sure everyones opinions are welcome, it’s what we do discuss and debate, and as BP said we are all tims and everyone should remain part of something quite unique.

If Bayern have a weakness it’s defensively.
Strangely enough Neuer is now a big reason for their vulnerability.
He has never looked the same since he he had torn muscle fibre injury in 2019.
His distribution has suffered and he no longer seems to command his area with the same authority.
Luckily he plays for a team who look capable of outscoring any opponent.

Typical-as i post he just makes a very good save!๐Ÿ˜€
