Unleash the Men for the Ten!

Today’s game is big for many reasons, and after the break most Tims will be itching to see the Bhoys run out again, but we aren’t just excited for that or the three points on offer, its also the chance to glimpse our new guys, together, in action.
The transfer window might have a bit to run, but effectively, our season starts properly today, having now taken care of our transfer business.
It’s on now in earnest.

I think its fair to say none of us would have wished for, or envisaged, the team needing big surgery in the actual ten season, but here we are with our new (this season anyway) quartet to form Glasgow Celtics new look spine.
I find it exciting and I doubt I’m alone. Its rare all four positions are replaced at once, rare for a bigger club anyway I believe, but in such a momentous year no one would ever decry reinforcements, especially of quality.

And they do seem quality in fairness, maybe showing the transfer strategy has either been tweaked or reactive to our needs at this time, but again there’s no complaints.
An old colleague had a saying “You’re better looking at it than looking for it” that has always stuck with me, and I’m reminded of it now after seeing a flood of bodies incoming, when I had envisioned a very settled eleven focussed solely on delivering the big one this campaign.
Needs must however and if this is what the footballing department felt necessary then we must all trust their judgement on this one.

Many will take the three points for granted today, whether right or wrong, more concerned with seeing new signings plus how we will set up.
Will there be a new system to match the new spine?
Will the partnership to deliver ten begin tonight (with a bang) ?
Will there be a debut goal?
What will the actual (not virtual) fans in the stadium do when there’s only a couple hundred altogether?
Talk to the players personally?

As for a new system, is it not the perfect time to begin?
Three at the back, five in the middle and a couple of strikers took the title last year, it’s time we brought it back.
All eyes will be on the Big Derry man who will probably fancy sticking one in with the nugget, the odds are currently 11-4 showing the bookies reckon he will fancy it also.
I fancy him on the left side, big Jules in the middle, with Kris on the right, if he is in the right frame of mind. Should he not start there, that I would see as a sign he is moving on or at least is trying to.

Looking at our fixtures with three games in eight days it would be crazy to play the skipper all three, so chances are he plays today and sits out midweek to return for Europe.
At least thats what I would do, especially now we have a replacement, and Lenny cant talk about a work in progress or not upto speed. Turnbull is ready to play.
If Neil gives Scott time in all three games it would worry me, as I would deem it very unnecessary. Lenny may also feel protective of Turnbull thinking I will play him alongside the Captain for his first few games, but the lad knows what he is up against and doesn’t need babysitting.

Ajeti will surely want to keep banging them in, and if he is going to forge that partnership he mentioned upon signing then it should start today. Anything else would set alarm bells ringing, departure and formation wise.
All of us want two strikers and I think the team is crying out for it.
If we intend to face our rivals with a duo up top then lets get them accustomed to each other starting now, they haven’t had much time together on the training ground.

Neil himself had some questions hanging over him, and here he is afforded the perfect opportunity to get the train back on track plus earn a chunk of breathing space in facing three small domestic clubs. If his team impresses these next 7 days we all breathe a little easier, perhaps while acknowledging it is one hell of a strange season and the twelfth man isn’t there anymore. The negative vibes that followed the last couple games had all but dissipated, helped by fresh faces arriving and overshadowed by current events, which our Lurgan leader can be thankful for, he must build on that.

All in all, games just cant come quick enough and after a sputtering start its time to really put it into gear and make some headway.
These three games afford nine points first and foremost, and that must be the target for it is eminently doable.
If we cant beat Ross County, St. Mirren and Livingston then we aren’t going to be Champions.
Beating all three well and in style would be the mark of Champions and show we are in it to win it.
New signings shine, new system found and fans passion reignited all in a week? Stranger things have happened but if we are going to start kicking some ass with a swagger, right about now would be the perfect time to begin.

Good Morning all
A very positive article to start the day off in a good frame of mind – thank you Mahe.

Whilst I am on, I would like to thank Twisty and his brother for their very kind assistance, and Bobby for putting us in touch.

Nice to waken up to some positive stuff for a change. That article yesterday put me on a right downer!

I’ll take issue with you on one thing if I may,and that is on Shane missing out on Thursday night’s Euro trip. Last year,Jullien played, and played well,as we beat Motherwell 5-2 on the Saturday. He missed out on the Tuesday as we lost 4-3 at home to Cluj.

Unless Shane is showing obvious match-fitness issues,I don’t think we should make that mistake again.

Lovely posts from Awe Naw last night.

BMCUWPs/ Mahe,

You’ve both provided a very valuable resource for folk during these challenging times. We’ll all need the blog over the months to come.
Not many have made as big a contribution to people’s lives.
Maybe it’s your calling.

Anyway off on my jog.

Nonsense, old son. Imagine we threw a party and no-one turned up,the site had fallen on its arse. It’s the members who have made the site a success, and we are very grateful for that.

And for the compliments,of course! Preen, preen…

Hope YER family are coping, and that the local fishermen are inviting you to their shebeen every so often!

Enjoy your jog.

That’s it,it’s official. Chris Sutton will no longer be referred to by me as The Evil Genius. Stupid twat, more like. This from his DR article.

“Barkas has admitted it’s taking him time to settle in Scotland, that’s understandable.

It took me time as well getting used to life in Glasgow, figuring out what people were saying to me and trying to work out how they could eat things like square sausage.”

Bliddy sacrilege.

Great stuff Mahe – sound the bugle! The race for The Ten starts in earnest today. Scoop up these nine points and let’s see where we are. Especially, as Sevco have Dundee United at home then Hibs and Motherwell away. Tasty!

Just a pity we’re not on TV anywhere today. I suppose we’re being overshadowed by the Livi v Hamilton game – which some are billing as El Plasticco!

I was having an overnight blether with the Carnoustie madman, aka ACEILERGONOFRUST,and a certain name cropped up. Strangely enough,I’d been talking about him earlier in the week when I was out with the troops.

Known as ALASDAIR MACLEAN on CQN,he lives near Dingwall and supports the local team along with his lad. But he’s a Celtic man really, and I suspect there might be at least two Celtic fans in the crowd today.

A couple of years ago,he contacted me for info on dos and donts of going to Ibrox with his then 14yo son. I asked him to give me a couple of minutes and “phoned a friend”,explaining the situation to him. Said friend told me that he would look after them for the duration in his role as a taxi driver. Pick them up from the station for the hotel, advise on better places in the area, and do the same to and from the ground. Basically “on call” for the duration of the trip.

Remember, this is for a guy he doesn’t know!

Step forward,VOGUEPUNTER. A giant of a man in so many ways.

PS-he’s done similar on many occasions, including picking up my Dad and some friends for a funeral.

World news exclusives: Right alongside stories of mankind dying out due to the virus, 000s dying daily of starvation and the very real possibility of a second civil war in America, we had this … RANGERS SPEND BIG (£27.99) ON NEW LED LIGHTS! Every single news outlet ran with that.

What next? “Rangers massive spend to make sure the St Etienne bike is road worthy”

Sports journalism in this wee shithole is utterly dead.

Happy Birthday Mags McGill. A man I have seldom agreed with on here but I’d love to buy him a birthday drink. It would be an absolute education.
Positive vibes from mahe as ever. So doom and gloom about the board and the direction of the club but then next day picks a team with no natural wing backs to play 3-5-2 and expects to scud our opponents 4-0. That Californian air must do strange things. Just shows no matter how pissed off any of us feel at times with our club when Saturday comes we all want the same thing.
I noticed Danny Drinkwater in the papers this week. He’s had a lot of personal problems including a drink driving charge and sounded as though he’s really struggled. He admits himself he’s had several wake up calls he’s not heeded but could this guy be a possibility to take some of the weight off Broonie? Maybe a complete fresh start could revitalise his career and do us a turn at the same time. Everyone deserves a second chance and I’d be looking at him.

I did something similar in Belfast a few years ago.

Met up with Gearoid (another really nice lad) who took me around and showed me what’s what.

Took his advice, and didn’t wear any colours when walking about, particularly when going into areas with conspicuous red, white and blue buntings.

In fact, to make sure I blended in with the locals, I wore blue jeans and a red pullover.

So, there’s me … walking around, Snapping some photos on my iPhone , saying hello … and generally brightening up the area…but being met with Stoney faced stares, if not snarls …if looks could kill, some of them would have needed a license for their face …

‘How do the know I’m a Tim? It’s not like I’m LiT (the good-looking, but dimmer – at least that’s what I tell him – brother)’ sort of thoughts running through my head

Made it back to my flat, still puzzled by the obvious antipathy… emptiedmy pockets. Change, keys, wallet, iphone (still with green and white Celtic cover I had forgotten to take off! ….oops!

Turns out LiT May be The prettier brother, but he may not be the dopiest after all!

September 12, 2020 2:05 pm

As i often state i am not a fan of pointless possession coaches.
Parker at Fulham has added another to the swollen EPL ranks.
While at times Fulham have been neat and tidy they have rarely posed any threat.
The third Arsenal goal came from another square pass being intercepted.
With opponents facing upfield any of these kind of turnovers tends to lead to odd man rushes.
Coaches may claim to play varied systems but often when you watch these possession coached teams they are usually 3 straight and predictable lines across the field.
Their opponents find it far too easy to know where the next pass is going and it’s usually sideways and backwards with team on their heels with little forward intent.

September 12, 2020 2:18 pm

GORDON64 refers to a great trip marred somewhat by a minor error by yours truly. FRIESDORFER and GARRY arrived off the plane Saturday lunchtime and met a crowd of us at St Matthews in Short Strand.

Couple hours later, time to freshen up,and since my Dad and I were in the same hotel we went back to do the same. Met up in the bar across the road, beer, and I approached a taxi.

Divis flats, please. Meeting some friends. Give me a mo till I call the other three over.

Turns round, shouts over, turns back and he’s effed off!

This happened another three times. Then it clicked we were in Sandy Row!

I haven’t commented on here for an age, but motivated by today’s team line-up. You could quibble about player selection here and there, but this is the formation that will win the 10.
