Another scalp please Celtic.
Tonight’s a big European game followed by a big domestic league game, just part and parcel of life at a big club.
The man getting the big bucks will make some big decisions, hoping that in the end the big board has his team ahead in both games. Which one is the biggest depends on your viewpoint but I think it’s fair to say they are both our biggest games to date.
I cant wait, bigtime.
Tonight should see our first choice eleven in the managers mind. In your biggest games you play your best team, so all that chopping and changing should end tonight with a glimpse of our starters.
Or at least it would in theory if all were fit, which we know is not the case, but we can and do assume the draftees will go back to reserve duty, words that KT would scoff at.
El Hamed will more than likely stay in for Julienne who has a knock, which explains him coming in Saturday. Fair enough.
The rest should see the best we’ve got, after all it is a one off game against on paper weaker opposition, so we should aim to win it goes without saying.
And that might just be a bit of a problem.
What if the manager doesnt know his best eleven or formation yet? That’s no slight at all to Lenny, but when we take the disjointed performances allied with half a new team coming in, perhaps it takes a bit of time and a few experiments to hit upon the winning formula.
So the recent shuffles are to be expected and only the dugout know just how much was learnt over that three game mini spell just past.
That spell should have set the team up for the next block of games, and 3 games 3 wins with big Shane showing prowess in the opponents box ticks all the boxes on paper. But if the game were played on paper it would be called Subbuteo.
Were talking football here.
And what we didn’t see was playing the Celtic way, a fact which has caused consternation among the faithful showing that it’s the style of play rather than the result that controls the temperature of Timland.
We can start to judge the lessons learned during the past three games tonight.
If Taylor is deemed unsuitable, if Moi starts, if Frimpers starts instead of James, if Ajeti starts,, then we can safely say the last three games had a big part to play in all those decisions, things were learnt, exactly what experimenting is for. Great!
But tonight and Sunday are the litmus test. Our manager must show us progress and just when we havent been firing on all cylinders here we have two big big games that give one hell of an opportunity to,,
Give statement performances reassuring all,
Build momentum before the big rival clash,
Use the best squad in the land.
I know Lenny felt previously that a big match helped his team raise their game, and it should in fairness.
Aye it’s strange surroundings, but then even home must feel strange empty, and theres no partisan crowd so essentially theres no excuses. We know Sarajevo FC await, a much stiffer test imo but we will cross that bridge when we come to it.
Tonight offers the opportunity to cement yourself in the starting lineup with an impressive performance, and we have a few who will relish that challenge.
Frimpers for starters. James on that right wing hasnt been cutting the mustard and I don’t like him on the left personally, too easy to read. Frimps offers pure energy when attacking, directness that wobbles defenders. He would be my first name on the team sheet for a must win game.
The left wing is possibly up for grabs also.
Theres no question its two up top. The Yeti claimed he was really looking forward to the partnership upon signing. If its gonna happen tonight’s the night.
Ajeti is on fire, Odsonne is ready to go after training well last few days stated the gaffer, so let’s get the dynamic duo on the pitch and I’ve no doubt they will produce the goods.
The manager has been under a bit of pressure from early on, but a good away win in Europe always makes us happy, being a bit of a rarity. We must head into the Hibs clash on the back of progression, with whatever momentum we can gather tonight.
Having two crackers up front, a convincing victory should not be out of the question. We need only play to their strengths and unleash them. A great partnership could spark into life tonight.
