Another scalp please Celtic.

Tonight’s a big European game followed by a big domestic league game, just part and parcel of life at a big club.
The man getting the big bucks will make some big decisions, hoping that in the end the big board has his team ahead in both games. Which one is the biggest depends on your viewpoint but I think it’s fair to say they are both our biggest games to date.
I cant wait, bigtime.

Tonight should see our first choice eleven in the managers mind. In your biggest games you play your best team, so all that chopping and changing should end tonight with a glimpse of our starters.
Or at least it would in theory if all were fit, which we know is not the case, but we can and do assume the draftees will go back to reserve duty, words that KT would scoff at.

El Hamed will more than likely stay in for Julienne who has a knock, which explains him coming in Saturday. Fair enough.
The rest should see the best we’ve got, after all it is a one off game against on paper weaker opposition, so we should aim to win it goes without saying.

And that might just be a bit of a problem.
What if the manager doesnt know his best eleven or formation yet? That’s no slight at all to Lenny, but when we take the disjointed performances allied with half a new team coming in, perhaps it takes a bit of time and a few experiments to hit upon the winning formula.
So the recent shuffles are to be expected and only the dugout know just how much was learnt over that three game mini spell just past.

That spell should have set the team up for the next block of games, and 3 games 3 wins with big Shane showing prowess in the opponents box ticks all the boxes on paper. But if the game were played on paper it would be called Subbuteo.
Were talking football here.
And what we didn’t see was playing the Celtic way, a fact which has caused consternation among the faithful showing that it’s the style of play rather than the result that controls the temperature of Timland.

We can start to judge the lessons learned during the past three games tonight.
If Taylor is deemed unsuitable, if Moi starts, if Frimpers starts instead of James, if Ajeti starts,, then we can safely say the last three games had a big part to play in all those decisions, things were learnt, exactly what experimenting is for. Great!

But tonight and Sunday are the litmus test. Our manager must show us progress and just when we havent been firing on all cylinders here we have two big big games that give one hell of an opportunity to,,
Give statement performances reassuring all,
Build momentum before the big rival clash,
Forge partnerships,
Use the best squad in the land.

I know Lenny felt previously that a big match helped his team raise their game, and it should in fairness.
Aye it’s strange surroundings, but then even home must feel strange empty, and theres no partisan crowd so essentially theres no excuses. We know Sarajevo FC await, a much stiffer test imo but we will cross that bridge when we come to it.
Tonight offers the opportunity to cement yourself in the starting lineup with an impressive performance, and we have a few who will relish that challenge.

Frimpers for starters. James on that right wing hasnt been cutting the mustard and I don’t like him on the left personally, too easy to read. Frimps offers pure energy when attacking, directness that wobbles defenders. He would be my first name on the team sheet for a must win game.
The left wing is possibly up for grabs also.

Theres no question its two up top. The Yeti claimed he was really looking forward to the partnership upon signing. If its gonna happen tonight’s the night.
Ajeti is on fire, Odsonne is ready to go after training well last few days stated the gaffer, so let’s get the dynamic duo on the pitch and I’ve no doubt they will produce the goods.

The manager has been under a bit of pressure from early on, but a good away win in Europe always makes us happy, being a bit of a rarity. We must head into the Hibs clash on the back of progression, with whatever momentum we can gather tonight.
Having two crackers up front, a convincing victory should not be out of the question. We need only play to their strengths and unleash them. A great partnership could spark into life tonight.

Probable team,,
El Hamed

Morning all. I’m going for 3-0 tonight. One of these days I might just predict the correct score.

September 24, 2020 7:32 am

That is exactly the same team I would pick for tonight. Think we will keep a clean sheet and win 2-0. Ajeti and Edouard. Looking forward to watching tonight’s match.

Just win Celtic!

September 24, 2020 8:50 am

It takes a brave man to forecast a Celtic line-up these days! A few already this season have left me flummoxed. My own thoughts-and not a prediction-would be Taylor for Mo and Ntcham in the middle, with one up front. And I’m not sure it will be Eddie either.

September 24, 2020 8:51 am

Though BIGAUDIODYNAMITE summed it up perfectly,I don’t care who he picks as long as we win.

I watched Molde Ferencváros last night 3.3

A really good game

Tonight´s tie is a play off right ?

September 24, 2020 9:29 am

Still one more after this,if we win.

September 24, 2020 9:30 am

I think Neil will play Forrest from the start. Forrest has scored goals against European opposition home and away. Frimpers is exciting to watch but what counts is end product and I think that’s where Forrest has the edge. Frimpers will be brought on later to run them ragged.

I will be watching The Celtic tonight in the company of PaddysMaw and ATOB in the local CSC having each paid the joining fee on the resumption of games involving Celtic. The only one missing from my family will be BMCUWP. He will watching in Swindon on my VST. Mrs CCB doesn’t count because she wouldn’t watch football if it was being played in the back garden 😁. My family are therefore ‘ Old Firmites , Heidbangers, Numpties and various other terminologies according to some pensmiths on here.
So be it.
The first part of that paragraph is fact and the second part supposition. It may be referred to by some as opinion. However, opinion based on supposition is not an opinion. It is still supposition.
Let me tell you a story.
In 1943 a boy of four was taken to Celtic Park by his father to watch a game of football between Celtic and Celtic. The Probables versus The Possibles. Since then this boy has been to or watched EVERY game that Celtic have played except when physically possible.
Reasons, not excuses, for misses have been … playing ORGANISED football, working, Honeymoon, being abroad with Her Majesty’s Forces, Weddings,Baptisms,Funeral, and previously arranged engagements which would be ill mannered to miss.
Games have been watched on TV in various countries and pubs and even on the High Seas when on a cruise. An understanding Mrs CCB knows that’s what I do whenever watching Celtic is possible because, of course, that boy is me.
There are many thousands of people like me across the world.
We are NONE of the terms used by our denigrators.
I/we care nothing about wh we play or who is in charge of the business side of our team.
Good Morning All and Hail Hail.
Enjoy watching the Bhoys tonight.

September 24, 2020 9:39 am

Enjoy the match,I’ll be doing my best to tune in. If the VST comes unstuck,I’ll find a stream somewhere.

Meanwhile, off to the pub for a few before the latest restrictions come in. Table service sucks, because my local barman looks hellish in his French maid’s uniform.

September 24, 2020 10:02 am

Good Morning all. Excellent summation of where we are, and where we would like to be – starting tonight.

CCB: spot on re watching anywhere and everywhere, in locations too numerous to mention.
And still we are here, and will always be here, to paraphrase someone.

What about Frimpong on the left…

September 24, 2020 11:26 am

Friesdorfer, thanks for the response to the comments about Dundee. I’ve just saw that.

September 24, 2020 11:46 am

From last page, new article just as I posted (ps Chrome still doen’t work, IE is fine and dandy so no issue for me)

The problem with being a Celtic fan in England would be that the away tickets would still be divvied up between the clubs, buses, committee/conveners and their friends and family who get them every time at the moment

September 24, 2020 11:49 am

New restrictions already introduced in my local. Best get used to them…

September 24, 2020 11:49 am

My team for tonight:4-2-3-1

Elhamed Duffy Ajer Taylor

Ntcham McGregor

Ayrshire Superstar Christie Moi

Don’t concede early, gain control, score, bring second striker Ajeti on and score some more

September 24, 2020 11:53 am

Re tickets-yup!

September 24, 2020 11:54 am

No VST tonight. Celtic TV subscibers get audio in UK/Ireland only (replay later on)
Game is live on Premier

I’m thinking of heading to the local for first time since March to see if they have it on; if not hoping for Hesgoal stream on my ipad

I find it disconcerting that we have played 14 games this season and our coaches seem to have no idea what our best team or formation is?
Surely preseason and first few league games was the time to work it out?
Ajeti and Duffy came later but with their experience should have been signed for a specific role and purpose.
Also JF should be first name on team sheet as he has performed well for us in Europe.

September 24, 2020 1:16 pm

Thanks wrt Hesgoal. I forgot to say the replay at 10pm is on VST, just not the live game

September 24, 2020 1:19 pm

Personally i would hate Celtic playing in the EPL. Whatever few remnants of who we are and what we are supposed to represent would be lost forever for the sake of ‘Saxongeld’. You can take that to Desmond’s favourite bank.

PS – I now have a valid reason to Vote SNP. “Why are you voting for the SNP?” “Simples – to prevent the Celts leaving Scotland” 😁😎

September 24, 2020 1:32 pm

if we were in EPL there is next to no chance of local Scottish players getting a game as well

I was watching some League Cup games last night on Quest randomly. A lot of second string players out there e.g. Everton, Newcastle.

A lot of them foreign but even the local English lads were big athletes, as befits the game in England.

On the upside; McGinn, Armstrong, Robertson, Fraser etc have done well down there but I can’t see us with the number of Scots we have right now

September 24, 2020 2:33 pm

You sum up the irrationality of being a Celtic supporter! And to watch a game with your family is a treasure I shall never have.

I think there is a fair chance that we shall lose tonight, but, you are correct I should support my team and enjoy the game. If the Latvians are good at playing rope a dope, it will be difficult for us because we shall huff and puff across their penalty area to little effect. Given they have a Russian in charge, they will be organised.

I hope and expect that we shall play 4231 at least initially with Edouard as the sole striker. To play a shaky back three would be suicide but we have seen the manager commit it before in Europe, so who knows! I think both Taylor and Forrest will play with El Hamed as the RB. As to the formation, I have no clue. What I will say is that if we do not progress tonight, then we shall be seen as a third tier European team.

Time to step up to the plate, Celtic.

September 24, 2020 3:11 pm

Good morning from the west coast of the Divided States of America.

Really looking forward to the game. If we dont go two up top I will be very worried.
Anything but a solid win and I would be seriously worried.

This is on Twitter.
On comments below, people have said it worked.
Anyone wanting to watch the Celtic game for £1 tonight can do so by subscribing to Premier sports and use the code SERIEA1
Riga are 16/1 to win tonight, with Skybet.
So it would be, odds wise, a major shock if we lose.

How are you doing and how is your health?

There used to be,though it was closed a few years back.

I’ve checked on my Virgin Media Account online, Premier Sports online and my TV.

AFTERNOON ALL and JIM, well that was very emotional the 2 guys that were installing the dog grooming equipment in the garage have just left, they were from a company in lincoln that specialises in dog grooming, simon and james, they arrived on tuesday had booked into the local pub for bed and breakfast, but you know when you just hit it off with some people, it was a pleasure having them here, only drawback simon supported man utd and james supported scunthorpe united😎 anyway on to tonight, im going for a 2-0 win, duffy with a header and wee jamesy,H,H,

September 24, 2020 3:36 pm

Got to agree with BMCUWs, it’s currently, nigh on impossible to predict a Celtic line-up, add the formation and tactics and you give up and go back to the quantum mechanics.

I’ll just stick to saying what we should do..;)

With the right application this game should be a doddle.

We need to do our defending in the opposition box though.

September 24, 2020 4:21 pm

A European league is palatable.
But money will be the deciding factor.
While many of the few English players in EPL guys like KT,Robertson and Silva have proven skill triumphs

Barkas; Bitton, Duffy, Ajer, Taylor, Brown, McGregor, Forrest, Ntcham, Christie, Edouard

Subs: Bain, ElHamed, Frimpong, Turnbull, Elyounoussi , Klimala, Ajeti

September 24, 2020 4:38 pm

I would take us in the EPL over the SPHell.
Far from perfect, but it’s not a racist Masonic cesspool and as mentioned Glasgow city should benefit, not only by new away fans but it would force them to clean up their act.
We wouldnt find ourselves with another big debt dump or the dead being ressurected.
Rules actually count down there believe it or not.

Hail Hail

September 24, 2020 4:45 pm

So the team leak still sprinkles.
Dont like that team.
Forrest doesnt deserve place imo, ElHamed for Bitton is a mistake also I think.
Ncham in and out so cant blame him being hot then cold
Ajeti signed mentioning a partnership,, but we arent going that route. Why not and who sold him the partnership?
Clearly Lenny, as he was hardly going to get into in depth conversations with Odsonne before signing.
So Lenny has either changed his mind or been full of shit?
Where to f##k is our two up top?

I dont like us playing 451.
In a must win game you should attack attack attack and shut up shop later if needed.

I would take us in the EPL over the SPHell.
Celtic fans would not be welcome in Brexitland home of the little Englanders. All fine and dandy if we were to dump the GB and the more radical vocal Irish Republican elements of our support, which no doubt some of the ‘support ‘ and the PLC would be more than happy to do but at what cost? Not for me.

What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? CSC

That wasn’t me… Im at the office. I think Seamus must be trying to log in from home. He said that if WeeBGFC could log in under his dad’s account, then so can he …

In fact, Seamus is the one who posts on here about limitations etc…. he and I discuss them, and then he types up the posts … so, if anyone has a problem with the posts, they should take it up with Seamus… although, he may bite!
