November S̶p̶a̶w̶n̶e̶d̶ Spurned A Monster

Happy November 3rd, or as it’s called here Election Day!
The first Tuesday in November affords the opportunity to engage in one of mankind’s greatest ever achievements, democracy.

The ruling families and aristocrats the world over where stunned when George Washington became the first man in history to knowingly and willingly walk away from a position of supreme power having had nothing whatsoever to do with choosing the successor, a task left purely to the people for the first time ever.
And thus the worlds first democratic republic was born.

That republic still functions despite those who had their misgivings, of which there were many. Never before had any and all races came together in one place never mind under one banner, but they did, continue to, and probably.always will.

Why is very simple, because they/we are all offered a chance to be a part of something, something beautiful by way of a harmonious melting pot who could and would choose it’s own path and direction.
For all of us, America offers something to buy into via the rights granted to all under the Constitution.

And today sees that very Constitution perform perhaps its finest act in allowing the people to choose a new leader.
You don’t need to ask which side of the fence I stand on but I believe we will see record turnouts for this particular election, for the very essence of the American dream is being challenged, the people simply do not like what they see and hear one bit, and will turn to their most powerful weapon.
Their Constitution and the democracy offered within.

It really is beautiful, something to be proud of, especially when viewed through the prism of those locked into life under a military regime lead by Pol Pot, Pinnochet, Idi Amin, Thatcher and numerous other tyrants throughout history.
Many would die for the opportunity afforded to all under that Constitution, unfortunately many did and some still do.

The Constitution was forged in blood, like many historic declarations. Chances are your own country was liberated from the Crown at a terrible cost, just like my homeland plus here, and therefore your own form of governance came at a very heavy price, a price that should never have been needed.
That blood was spilt exactly in order for days like today to take place!
This is the end result of all American history, today.
Today is when we en masse buy into the system, we sign up for it by way of choosing who rules. If we weren’t afforded the opportunity to do so, many would not and will choose not to come here, myself among them.
Democracy or I’m out, and I guarantee millions of Americans feel the same.

Alas for my club of choice, democracy is a dirty word. Many Tims including those in the boardroom will celebrate today’s election result and the clear message that me, my American family, friends, and neighbours send to the rest of the world that says we are not racist and we will sign back up to that Paris Accord asap so we can all start saving this planet.

They will clap their hands at it, raise glasses to it, talk about the good men that fought to make it happen, ensure that they live under it all their life, but when it really comes down to it, there’s not one bit of democracy at Glasgow Celtic.

Last November seen Res12 2013 swept aside due to voting block rights, and let’s face it what the top table doesn’t want they don’t allow to happen whether the fans wish it or not, its like that.
And this from a club that had a man who laid his life on the line to be free of the yolk of dictators come across the water to plant the centre circle thus cementing not only the bond between our nations but also the idea that liberty, the opportunity to be heard and self govern, is something worth fighting for ,, explain to me how that makes sense?

Democracy stops at the door of Celtic Park, but it and the battle for it is apparently fair game to be financially exploited.
What does that tell you?
Tells me they are Capitalists afraid of it.

Now I’m a simple Irish boy who happens to bump my gums on a wee corner of the internet, trying not to start fights or gain popularity but regarding our club of choice I have a lot to say so I went ahead and organised somewhere to say it.
Exercising my right to freedom of speech I guess, nought wrong with that right?

However a democracy could and I’m sure at some stage would pitch mine or a similar vision of Glasgow Celtic against Dermots much different vision, the green half of the old firm out for profit, dreaming of the Epl gold.
Under a democracy we wouldn’t be on this path at all.

That’s why its not happening and there’s no intention to introduce such a concept.
Put me on a stage to sell you my dream for that club against Dermot and its a no contest..
If its one man one vote that is, the very essence of democracy.
That’s why it ain’t happening.

The passion for some form of democracy at our beloved club has actually manifested itself into one poster adopting the very simple slogan ‘one member, one vote’, something not alien to football clubs at all, in fact Barca will vote in a new president soon on that basis, and Bayern have become arguably the best team in Europe under that system.
But its a step too far for us?!

I mentioned earlier but the only reason I’m here, physically here in the States, is because of the dream afforded, the opportunity that rides side by side with that dream, and the States has been very good to me I admit.
But at the heart of it, I wouldn’t be here if not afforded the opportunity to buy into it.
Which brings me finally to the club.

The AGMs afford an avenue of accountability by charter law, so in the event of a split the floor could question the top table. It always was thus.
However when that table holds the power to out vote the floor, one really must ask what’s the point?

Taken in reference to today’s election, you won’t need me to point out that people wouldn’t be queuing in record numbers if that vote actually meant nothing right!
It doesn’t take a genius to work out they wouldn’t show up if it wasn’t what was promised, wasn’t what was initially offered, if the dream wasn’t real!!!

And that’s the big problem.
It might pass our boardroom by, in fact it totally looks like it has so I best spell it out straight.

The club and its pensioners need to take a peek at the modern world. You want the next generation, the hardest ever to catch and keep in this Hi Def cutting edge world, then you offer more than bent refs, plastic pitches, and to top it all off gerrymandering the support when you’re actually caught red handed.

Stay on that path I ain’t showing up and neither are the next generation.
Great business eh?

Accept your lot?
Nah, the fans want an equal say in the running of our beloved club, and anyone stands in the way of that noble dream can and is considered a problem as far as I’m concerned.

There’s one course worthy of our club.
It’s also the course that guarantees survival, for people flee dictatorships these days, not flock to it and certainly don’t entice those they love into the trap.

The fans must be heard.
One Member, One Vote, just like Election Day.

I thought Scottish football was on a yellow card? So there will be outrage today? Government meetings? Response groups set up to work out punishment for the Govanites? No? Why!?

Even though a story has broken here, I still smell shite!

November 3, 2020 7:41 am

The yellow card story falls right in with Mahe,s story one rule for them and lots of rules for the rest. And their rule is we will make the rule. This is going to be a big defining season for the Celtic and their supporters there is a lot of disgruntled fans out there the Board better not be asleep at the wheel

Well done, mate. I wondered where that article was going at first-I really should know better!

Of course, while we can’t quite achieve OMOV at our club,we still have the AGM where all shareholders are entitled to attend, and indeed those shareholders are entitled to raise any grievances and even to form resolutions of censure against those charged with running it.

In these days of the Covid,we have a slightly different problem. No date AFAIK has been set for the AGM,and attendance is likely to be heavily restricted even when it does happen. But at least the rules about resolutions are still in force. Which should be fun…

The Ku Klux Klan and various other fuckwits of the same political stripe will vote for the wotsit headed demagogue in the US election today, if you vote Tramp you’re aligning yourself with those crackpots. America is done and so is the democratic process.

As for the ‘custodians’ of the club, if they fuck this season up through negligence the supporters should forget about democratic means and utilise Robspierrean tactics by bringing out the guillotine and watch their heads roll down the Celtic Way. Lol

Fuck Trump

November 3, 2020 8:11 am

A can of worms indeed, mate. What a shambles this is. Especially when you consider that Boli and The Aberdeen Eight only broke the rules which applied to footballers at the time and were in place to ensure that they weren’t likely to breach the personal and footballing bubble which enabled games to go ahead.

The Rangers players-the number actually involved are currently a matter of conjecture-broke the law of the land as well,as the country is currently operating under severe restrictions. Yet they are commended by the Government for their swift reaction to it all?!!!

Blinkin’ flip…

I forgot to add in my earlier comment that this is an excellent piece.

November 3, 2020 8:18 am

Morning all!
Mahe, superb rallying call for your Club and adopted country.
Noel, if the votes of the KKK and the right-wingers tip the balance in favour of Trump that indeed is democracy…in much the same way as voting in the Tories and Brexit over here. It’s an unpleasant democracy for politically socially-minded thinkers but it’s democracy nevertheless!
We laughed at the stupidity of the Americans last time round this time if Trump succeeds it is no laughing matter…God help us all!

I’m hopeful and confident that these last four years have sickened enough Americans that they will vote him out. And heavily too. He may well retain a core base of 30% or so of crackerjacks and nut jobs-and that’s a lot of people in a country that size!-with maybe another 10-15% misguided enough to go for him too,but he is toast.

He has to win to prevent spending the rest of his life wearing a boilersuit which matches the colour of his skin and hair and won’t go down easily, but while elections in other countries are rarely any of my concern,I certainly think we all have some skin in this one.

I genuinely can’t recall meeting any Americans over the years whom I didn’t like, and while I appreciate that may not be the case for everyone,I’m pretty sure none of them deserve to have that eejit inflicted on them again. Nor do we,for that matter. There’s a lot at stake here,so let’s hope they vote and that their votes are counted.

Some democracy when the obstacles put in place of actually registering a vote are so obvious and partisan,eh?

November 3, 2020 8:22 am

Aye,when we look at some of the sheer bloody moronic decisions made by our democratic voters especially in the last five years or so,we have little reason to mock those across the pond.

November 3, 2020 8:27 am

Morning all & Packy from a wet, miserable North Lanarkshire. It’s like a November morning out there.

Great article Mahe.
Good luck to Biden today and good luck to Auldheid at the AGM (When it happens!).

November 3, 2020 8:59 am

On another topic, congratulations to Wimbledon as they move back to,erm,Wimbledon for the first time in nearly thirty years tonight. They were the only team I went to watch when I lived in London back then, first at Plough Lane and then at Selhurst Park.

I used to work alongside Ivor Heller-who is quoted in the article, best salesman I’ve ever met-who got me tickets for The President’s Club, and his place was then taken by Robbie Earle who lived round the corner from me. Happy days, place was full of nutcases so I fitted right in!

Fan ownership at its best.

McCaff, your absolutely right, it is still democratic no matter how ugly and non progressive that part of the US electorate political ideology is. I’m just thinking my own thoughts out too loud. Lol

Bobby, fully agree. There’s the possibility of him being indicted but I can’t see him hitting the tin pail. The outcome will have an impact here and in other places. I’ve a friend who’s from St Thomas parish in Jamaica who’s a Rasta and he states something similar to what you’ve said. He contacted me a few weeks ago and said ” Babylon on fire mi bredren and whitey in the big house not the water man (fireman) he’s causing all the fuckery and Babylon will burn with intense fire, problems for all people if he keeps the big seat.”I think he’s spot on.

November 3, 2020 9:04 am

Poetry, and all the more true for the imagery your friend conveys!

November 3, 2020 9:06 am

Better get myself ready for what will probably be my second-from-last pub visit this year. Wouldn’t do for my local landlord to be left with all that Guinness going out of date-I’ll do my best here!

I wonder if I can persuade him to drop me off a keg of it?

November 3, 2020 9:13 am

Bobby…towards the end of Lockdown Part #1 my nepwhew got 25 litres of Birra Moretti from a mate who was readying for the easing of restrictions. As nice as it was it got flat too quickly and lost it’s appeal unfortunately! Although free beer under any circumstances cannot be sniffed at… 😉

November 3, 2020 9:15 am

Novice behaviour-he obviously wasn’t drinking it fast enough!

November 3, 2020 9:19 am

HaHaHa…it certainly wasn’t novice behaviour…I was involved!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

November 3, 2020 9:20 am

Lukewarm, flat beer might be okay for you ex-pats in sunnier climes but it’s not for me…free or otherwise!! 🙂

November 3, 2020 9:30 am

Just before I head out for the day here’s a link to an article that in part touches on the issues that have caused some consternation on Sentinel Celts….

You make a good point too. The swing states will decide the winner, not the general voting public. Same everywhere,I suppose.

Fan a tic, I think we live in a plutocracy here in the UK and its the same in the US. Lying, theiving bassas.

November 3, 2020 11:19 am

Aye,I know. Robbie never charged me for mine, and I was careful not to ask too often. I’m pretty sure that he wasn’t charging for the ones that he got done for either. Just gave them away to friends,as a good guy does.

Of course, the “friends” sold them on…

Different methods used nowadays, but the purpose is the same, the subversion of democracy. Im not holding my breath for Trump being voted out. Too much money invested.

Aye,as I mentioned earlier. Strange that most countries try to get people on the voter register yet The Land of the Free actively does the opposite.

In Florida for example,if you owe money to the government by way of unpaid fines, you are disqualified from voting-heavily discriminating against minorities. Owe it by way of unpaid taxes? Oh,that’s ok-it’s The American Way!

The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter. – W. Churchill (allegedly)

As for holding up the US as a paragon of democracy – ghod help us. Trump or Biden – puppets controlled by the military industrial complex. As for a non Racist sitting in the white house should Trump lose – just who said this “State-mandated school integration
– the most racist concept you can come up with” and this of Barack Obama “the first sort of mainstream African American who is articulate and bright and clean” and this of African Americans prisoners “predators” too sociopathic to rehabilitate”. IMO It’s a bit like having to choose between Hilter and Stalin.
Just ask yourself this would a true democrat such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez ever get near any position of power in the USA?

November 3, 2020 12:30 pm

Excuse me for saying it but I think you have bought the lie. What is democratic about the Electoral Vote system? Ask Hilary for one answer. People voting does not necessarily indicate a democracy. Electing a Trump proves that.

Stinks of another Sevco cover up, the only Klub in the world, not to have a Covid case either…..aye right

November 3, 2020 1:00 pm

There is an increasing groundswell behind a reform of the electoral college. It really has to happen. Some states have an electoral college vote per capita about ten times that of other states and that is clearly wrong.

I can see a Biden/Harris presidency instating Puerto Rico and DC as a counter measure to the gerrymandering currently in place, but a long term fair measure of voter representation is long overdue.

November 3, 2020 2:47 pm

Good morning troops.
Hope all are well and God bless all those with health issues or less fortunate than ourselves.

Let’s bin the Tangerine, and start fixing this world.

Covid cover up in full swing I see. We should expect nothing less of course. Rules and Rangers, oil and water.
Wee Jimmy Krankie silent? Who woulda thunk it!

November 3, 2020 5:02 pm

I see the Daily Ranger has placed a higher monetary value on the Sevco squad than Celtic’s! Apparently Morelos and Eddy are worth £13.5 mill each. 🤔

Griffiths, McGregor and Christie in Scotland squad which will to travel to Serbia, Slovakia and Israel in the space of a week 😷

EVENING ALL and JIM ,well thats just me posted my vote for mr donald the trump, why because im a believer in true democracy and my mate donny,, no not donny osmomd, will deliver 😍 hey his mother is a true scot from larkhall or is it the outer hebrides, im not sure ,lets build that big wall and keep them pesky mexican fenians out, giving their allegiance to the holy father, its not on, this may or not be a true story😍😍

November 3, 2020 5:46 pm

Yes it is but they have knocked off £26.5 mill as he is a wee bit petulant.

November 3, 2020 5:55 pm

Why has Griff been called up to the Scotland squad? FFS he has hardly played for us. Time for Celtic to grow a pair and tell the SFA and other football associations to GTF they can’t have our players as they can’t guarantee the safety of employees of Celtic FC – as evidenced by the last international call up. Doubt our overly compliant custodians will make too much of a fuss 😷😡🤬.

November 3, 2020 6:06 pm

I said after the last fiasco that we should refuse to allow our players to attend international gatherings, purely on H&S grounds. And I think that is a reasonable point to make, bearing in mind why the Aberdeen Eight and Boli got hammered.

November 3, 2020 6:12 pm

Packy, absolutely nothing! Didn’t even need to go to the shops 🙁 Being honest I haven’t been too bothered about the pubs being shut until the last few days. Even for an hour or two would be good! Telly’s rubbish tonight so it will be Midsomer Murders at 8pm. If I’m up late I’ll watch what’s happening in the USA.

Is Joan still allowed to do her bit in the garage under these restrictions? I hope she is,because it has been a heartbreaking tale since March. You’ve tried so hard to keep the business going-I remember your trusted employee snaffling stuff because she couldn’t buy it!- and I know it really hurt letting it all go.

I think Joan lives for her dogs, loves meeting people the same. Obviously she lives for you too. But Joan needs to work. She needs to be out working and being with customers. Just the kind of person she is.

And now? Naw. Not allowed. You might not quite need the money-even if everyone can do with it-but we all need the social interaction. That’s not even a consideration, you can’t go and visit a pal during lockdown, the kind of pal that takes you right out of a bad place and into a good one.

I can’t go to visit my family in Scotland, and even worse I had bought the ticket to London on the bus for Saturday. It was only a fiver, but it allowed me to use the return half of my train ticket from three weeks ago.

Both gone.

And you know why I booked the bus? Because I was going to meet my nephew-which I do regularly-and we could fight over paying the bill. He was pissed off when I paid £3.70 for each pint of Guinness but he took it well. Six quid in the pubs either side.

It’s so fucking annoying, because we are doing things that are against our nature.

Try telling me a year ago to stay in the house and you canny go to a pub. Oh,you can have an hour exercise but no beer.

Does that sound like a prisoner from the punishment section of Peterhead Prison in the 70s?
