The Club/Land of Hopes and Dreams
Old ‘Arry Rednapp was wrong now and again, but when he asked why a Chairman who hires a bad manager doesn’t get sacked he was spot on.
Being poor will cost a manager his job, selecting a poor one gets a by ball, one of footballs little quirks.
For 99.9% of managers it’s a question of when, not if. The recent Batman movies actually address this very point, pondering if the caped crusader will walk away by stating you either die a hero or live long enough to aee yourself become the villain.
Only Sir Alex that I can remember walked happily away at the right time, on top and an absolute legend, for all the rest it’s simply a matter of when.
Lenny and any Celtic manager are in exactly the same boat. He can and should take some solace in that, yes recent events have hurried the when, but it was always coming.
Neil is the perfect lightening rod, a little like The Green Brigade in that respect, in that they will always split the fans, but if he goes alone then he was the perfect scapegoat.
We are a mess on the park and off it. Throw up figures all you like but current funds are being exhausted with little chance of full replenishment. This will be primarily due to Covid-19, but now there are added factors. The PLC added fuel to the fire with gross mismanagement, but when we have income gaps needing plugged it leads to a tightening of belt plus a star or two getting sold just to rub salt in the wounds, yet we will have a new management team in situ up against a rejuvenated rival but still needing funded. Furthermore we have a clear philosophical split with the board with most fans abhoring the idea of Englands leagues, which is only cemented by opinion polls showing IndyRef2 has it’s highest level of support ever, excerbated by a chaotic Brexit and Gov Virus response.
To top it off the CEO is far from popular, and Res12 has him bang to rights.
Don’t let anyone tell you we are well run.
For me it’s simple, and it’s a reflection of what I’m witnessing and living through in my adopted homeland.
At the heart of the issue is direction, where we are going.
The USA is divided and does not know where to go, but you just seen record numbers put their hand on the tiller and try to correct the stray from it’s fundamental ideals..
My friend in Celtic, I need you to do the exact same.
We heard Dermots thoughts on a bent club he refuses to acknowledge died, and which course he would charter.
None here are impressed by him, in fact I’d love to give him a piece of my mind, not a handshake as should be befitting a fellow who was privileged enough to actually become a custodian of our hallowed club. But then he ran it like his own screw the morals involved , , hmmm who does that remind me of?
We had the con man CEO who lied, transitioning from Sharp Suited Man with the Generation of Domination (sounds like a wrestling clique), now probably bailing end of season before facing the music (Res12, don’t open applications, blown ten, 40 mill in bank but we eff up etc).
Quite simply, that’s not who we are. At least not who we ought to be.
But we can put it right if we act together.
They will kick and scream for your money, expect it just like your vote, but at the end of the day it’s all yours, it’s your little piece of legitimately earned power, it’s all you have to effect change.
No one here will ever ask you to stop going, but that decision has been made for you plus sometimes sacrifices simply must be made. At the very least some satisfactory answers to some long standing questions deserve answered, and at a Club like our own we should never ever have to bloody demand answers ever again. Being the main source of funding and all we should be involved, at minimum, steering ship at best.
Next season you, me, us, will have power like never before. With attending in the air, your VST money is crucial. But yet to hand it straight over again invites more or the same. Next year, you’ve got them by the balls.
2021 will see one tyrant dragged out if necessary from a position of power he has been shown to himself to be morally unfit for. And Donald Trump will be getting booted out too.
For we have all had enough of being told who we are, where we are going and what to do.
Know your place just isn’t cutting it anymore.
Your vote, your money. Before handing it over demand change.

Money talks.
For all the soul searching and heartfelt discussions on the dilemma of withdrawing our support that we have on here, about spending our money on Celtic, only the ‘yes’ or ‘no’ is heard by the plc, the ‘spend’ or ‘not spend’, as that’s all that matters for their survival. Everything else is just exactly talk and you can’t spend talk.
‘They will kick and scream for your money, expect it just like your vote, but at the end of the day it’s all yours, it’s your little piece of legitimately earned power, it’s all you have to effect change.’
I think these are great lines, as it also accurately describes the voting process for me. We, the people who vote, or the people who but season tickets and strips and green and white tic tacs are a means to an end, we’re not important once we’ve given what was needed from us. But until we do, we’ll be courted.
That needs to change and people have to get a clearer picture of how others think of us before that can happen.
MAHE
I think that the performances this season have shown that the strategy of the last fifteen years or so has been a failure,a tale of ever decreasing circles.
Sure, there have been some high points-but they have mainly been due to the long-term strategy being ignored and another methodology taking its place. Of course, this never lasts because the strategist-in-chief has his nose put out of joint, but having been presented with a fait accompli,is still left in overall control.
So he manoeuvres the cuckoo in the nest out of the door, and the downward spiral continues as before.
I have no idea why the situation should have come to a head so suddenly this season, other than to suggest that certain players, used to seeing team-mates sold with two years left on their deals, expected the same to apply to them. Plus,of course, the apparent lack of coaching and fitness regimes. Well, there’s three that most teams would struggle to overcome!
You could say that we are stuck between a rock and a hard place, but i think it is worse than that. It’s a brick wall,an immoveable object. The coaching team needs removed and refreshed, and a proper Director of Football put in place. And Lawwell needs to be told that if a player is identified for a role and is within budget,it is his job to get him signed.
No excuses,a firing offence otherwise.
The current system is broken. I won’t suggest that it is deliberate, but it has happened because of executive failures caused by putting all the power into the hands of someone who has to be top dog,and can’t admit that footballing decisions aren’t what he is even remotely good at.
Lawwell owns this failure. Desmond got him out of jail in 2016 and he wilfully cocked it up from spite. Now we are seeing the results of that.
I think Barkas has to be cut a bit of slack here, and the criticism he has received is well over the top IMO.A young guy coming to a new country, probably still in a hotel, new language etc.I don’t think he has been culpable for many goals, if any.Sure,I want him to be more commanding, and dominate his area, but if you look at the defence he’s had in front of him,it hasn’t helped the guy.I would play him on Sunday, and tell him he’s No 1 GK,hopefully might give him more confidence.
BADABING
If fit,I would play him. But I would leave it till after the international break. Meantime I would be encouraging him to command his area more, and when faced with onrushing defenders and a cross ball, attack the ball and to hell with who you have to hurt to do it.
I’m with Bada Bing 1 on the goalkeeping position. I dont recall many, if any, major blunders from him since he arrived nor do I see him as good as Fraser Forster, who has flown the nest btw. Barkas ( who is always ‘willing’ c.Dickens) is our No1 otherwise why is he here.
Other signings, some recent some not so recent deserve a chance if only by the displays of the vast majority of the present incumbents.
Turnbull, Soro, Ajeti, Klimala and maybe even wee Dembele who can’t be much smaller than Jeremie who is never referred to as small btw.
For Sunday I would bring in as many fringe lhads as required going on recent results so…..

Sorry for the DR link, but I think he gets where we are just now….
Really good read this morning Mahe and excellent contributions over the last couple of days.
The founders of this blog have provided an important clickbait free forum for open dialogue about Celtic and Scotttish football.
Culture Change? Sometimes, unintentionally we intuitively say or think something that points in the right direction.
The culture change needs to go to the root of the problem. We’re steaming fast towards the icebergs.
Personally I’m not only concerned about the unfolding shambles at Lennoxtown.
Our approach to Sevco. The 5WA affair, Res 12 and the arrogant rejection of calls for transparency.
Our policy in respect of Celtic Boy’s Club is concerning. Especially in the wake of failure in so many other areas. The litigation is fast approaching.
The embarrassing stance taken by parties close to our CEO and the apparent undermining of government health strategy during the pandemic and the needless/divisive political involvement.
Dermot’s dismissal of Scottish football in his public utterances about a move. Opportunism and likely to undermine Celtic with every other club and official in the country.
Loss of tv revenue and Old Firm footfall would push most top tier clubs over the edge?
Why talk in public? Is it just to distract the support?
The list goes on but I’ll stop there…
The issue of Season Ticket and other purchases of Plc products has similarities to the pandemic. The longer supporters are solely dominated by unconscious emotional atrachments. The more the Plc mentality thrives.
The only way to get on top of this is a lockdown on expenditure. The Plc mentality acts like a virus.
Sometimes we all have to look at our own culture on an individual and collective basis and acknowledge what we’ve become and why.
Maybe the expression Culture Change is Neil Lennon’s most important contribution to Celtic Football Club?
Just reading here about the financial difficulties at the SFA and redundancies.
Malky MacKay might be a name that crosses Pedro’s mind?

THEGOMBEENMAN
Turnaround specialists will tell you that the hardest thing to change at a struggling company is the culture of the organisation. It is easier to change the strategy to get things on an even keel before making any attempt at the culture.
Of course, that may not apply to the playing staff at a football club-BR and to a lesser extent RD proved that it can be done. In fact,it could easily be argued that NL has done it too! But at Plc level, they would have their work cut out either way. If there is no willingness to change, they won’t.
They will circle the wagons and to hell with anything else, scorched earth on the football side won’t mean anything to them.

Ironic that Neil is calling for a change of culture when he has created the present situation.
He came and discarded the science, fitness and tactical dossier’s Rodgers had in place.
With his go out and play philosophy the drop off in players form and fitness is apparent.
Has he only just noticed?
The guy who appointed him in the showers has also shown that he was an overrated beancounter who has done more damage to this club than our enemies ever could.
That both look like snatching defeat from our advantageous position is a sackable offense.
If anyone is interested, Scotland v Serbia, free to watch on Sky,Thursday
FAN-A-TIC- can’t argue with any of that mate,NL talking about dressing room culture in November? We’ve got problems……he must have seen things festering to make a comment like that, why sit back and watch it……unless you are a part of it.

Just had a wee stroll over to Celtic Fox news (CFN) and from what i can ascertain from the lead article it seems as if Lenny is staying!
We should all be grateful to Bobby & Mahe that they have created a wee space where we can vent about all things Celtic, as well as other things, and not be castigated for our opinions irrespective of how others view them.
As usual all IMHO of course.

BMCUWPS,
The Culture that needs changing at Celtic is profiteering built on a sectarian Old Firm model.
They only way to change that in the short term is the supporters buck.
Customers stop buying Plc products. Simple.
Any talk of politics etc is desperate diversionary tactics.
Hopefully things are going well in Swindon. The wet pubs (no food) have been closed in Dublin since March.
I always figured opening the pubs on Good Friday was a bad omen.
Fan-a-tic,
Maybe the point is that Neil was brought in to disregard the science?
They gave us a legend and invested a few bob ( which will be recouped in a fire sale)…unfortunately Sevco won the league.
If Celtic Plc are serious about football we’re in bigger trouble than we think.
They’ve either done a deal or have been warned off.
Switcheroo.
Anyhoo,
Good to see you back, hope the family are well. Always enjoy your analysis.

The manager’s recent talk of culture change has no value and is code for his usual response to adversity., namely blame the players. Can he have any credibility with the players now? A week or so ago he was praising the players saying they were winners. Look at all they have achieved! Now, mere days later, they are lazy, not trying! He is clearly thrashing around without a clue what to do.
Reference to culture change is ironic. The club has experienced one over the last two years. Remember the culture of the manager going onto the park at the end of each game, talking to each player about their performance? Remember the air of professionalism around the club? Remember the in game management, using subs when needed rather than after 60 minutes? Remember encouragement for young players as they left the park, rather than “f### off!”? Remember a time when the manager was on his feet more often than sitting impassively on his rear end? Remember the optimism?
Yes, we have already experienced cultural change. It started sometime ago with a trip to Dublin before an important game and time off at the beginning of this season!
I expect to see player departures in January, irrespective of who is in charge. Some want out and the club will want to sell, perhaps, to finance managerial change. Unbelievable mess in this season of all seasons.
Apart from an opportunity to gain three points, I see no predictive value in the game tomorrow. Failure to get all three points then the implication is clear. Winning just changes the timing.

The mobile phone incident with Moi wasn’t the crime of the century. The media made a meal of it. Neil Lennon joined in – ‘He better not have!’ in response to being informed. I can imagine Lenny losing the plot over this with the player, would fit in with his getting tougher aim.
Last week Moi scored twice against Lille then against Aberdeen. He helped to get Lenny out of jail (for a few days).
Who knows why he might be travelling to London if it’s true. But if it is there will be story there.

Can’t see that being correct- isn’t Englandshire under lockdown! Restricted travel and all that malarkey? Cleary he wouldn’t be travelling to work as his place of work is in Glasgow and neither is he at Uni. So i assume if he has travelled outside of the ‘Celtic bubble’ he will be self isolating for 14 days upon his return especially if he has travelled on public transport – Plane, trains or buses!

Good post.
Someone needs to put Neil in front of a mirror and show him who is to blame.
He has since his return blamed the fans, players, refs and media and accepted no responsibility for our rapidly declining standards due to his tactical failings.
He has been steadfast and fulsome in his praise for Peter and the PLC.
A little introspection would be a start.
HI GHUYS, just logging on for a minute, been working all day, just to say about jimthetims post earlier, imagine mobile phones in jock steins day, they would be locked in the dressing room and jock would have the key, its called being a manager, catch u all later.H.H.
Our defensive display or complete lack of it on Thursday night has to be one of the worst I’ve ever witnessed by a Celtic team. Before the game Sutton singled out Julis as Sparta’s danger man yet we gave him the freedom of CP. Our passing out of defence is now so bad it should be banned. And what about some cover by our midfielders who have developed an aversion to tackling. We couldn’t keep hens out a midden Hh
Morning troops.
What a donkey! 6 to 1. Things are on the up.
I don’t think Moi looking at phone is the crime of the century either.

I agree it’s just a matter of timing. It is also a matter of not losing ground to give any replacement a chance to do a Biden.
MAHE, with respect there should be one phone for emergencies, the rest should be put in the lockers of the players, otherwise there would be a a speight of players playing games on their phones if the need arised,,.IMHO,hope you are well.
VP Dont know how I missed that one mate. My excuse having a fuzzy heid this morning also wouldn’t wanted to have stolen Mahe’s thunder Hh

Great post. Perfectly sums up where we are with Neil Lennon. We are just delaying the inevitable because next time we drop points the whole circus starts again. We haven’t played anymore than two decent games all season. There is so much wrong – tactically, mentally, physically that more dropped points are a certainty. I have already conceded the ten in my mind and want to see us put a plan together for the next three years. A forward thinking modern day coach is essential to that as is a proper director of football. All this has been said in here before. I think most of us agree we need change. I believe the board know it too but are too egotistical to admit to the huge error of appointing Neil in the first place. It’s an absolute scandal what we have done to ourselves.
G64
I’ve had one of those fuzzy heids before …perm in 1979 ,I looked the part :O)
Another issue with the malaise at Celtic will be the rapidly decreasing value of our squad. Remember not so long ago talking about £30 mill for Eddy, £10 mill for Ollie & £20 mill for Calmac amongst others. Anyone think that we’d get anywhere near these values now?

Close run thing for Biden in Pennsylvania. Although he won it by about 34000 votes,it was only about 1000 more than the threshold for a mandatory recount.
Will the world be a safer place with Joe Biden as POTUS ? I’m not so sure 🤔 It will certainly be duller. Hopefully Biden will be too busy puting fires out in the US to wage war across the world
