Celtic 0 – 0 Livingston
Morning,all.
Universal agreement here and on much of Timternet that this has been a season beyond all expectation. The last time we had a season that could be so described, well,it was a mirror image of the one we are constantly enduring. We were fortunate enough to witness then a team brimming with self confidence, with players desperate to get game time to impress the manager and the fans. A collection of players suberbly drilled and at peak fitness levels, with similar quality champing at the bit to get on,and all capable of fitting seamlessly into the system.
Contrast that with this season, which has been a shambles from the very get-go. Who is leaving, who is joining? Who is being held to their contract and not being allowed a transfer despite well established policy on the matter-not generally the wisest idea btw. When does the transfer window close anyway?
I have to hold my hands up here in this regard as I was relatively impressed by the club maintaining the squad, maybe not so much with Mo,but pleased with the addition of Ajeti,Duffy and Barkas. Knew little about two of them, but their pedigree read well. Turns out I may be a better judge of horseflesh when it comes to pedigree-even if their Chum is usually where my selections end up!
I’m honestly at a loss on this,I have no idea where performances like we have seen thus far this season come from, not from a team of highly paid professional INTERNATIONAL footballers who are quite honestly playing like the equivalent of one of my horsey selections running after someone had cut a leg off. I know this is supposed to be a match review, and yes I know we had players missing. Perfectly aware of the problems at the club. Blinkin’ flip,we are ALL aware of the problems at the club by now! But everyone on the pitch on Saturday was either a regular starter-most of them-or a squad player. There are no excuses for a performance as dire as that.
ONE shot on target against Livingston-at home! Two corners, while they managed nine! In fact, they had twice as many attempts at goal as us. This is us,2021 against Livingston. How the mighty have fallen,eh?
Invincibles to Indefensibles, and all in four short years.
Make that two,in fact…
Our articles have not been slow to point the finger for where we think lies the blame for the current shitshow, and you,our contributors, have not been slow either to show that you are aware of the problems. I’m going to gloss over the structural issues for the moment as they can wait for another day,but let’s simply deal with Saturday.
The recent form of Frimpers should mean that he doesn’t get a start. Sorry,son-I saw you make your debut, thought you were a class act and you will be,but a wee kickaround wi players your own age will do you a power of good. The recent-over the last three years!-appearances of the lesser-spotted Michael Johnston suggest that he is nowhere near a first team spot, and that is unlikely to change until someone figures out why such an allegedly gifted player performs worse than the mascots every time. I said yesterday in a comment that Tom Rogic is not a Neil Lennon “Face fits” player-but to play him as the lone striker is frankly ripping the piss!
That is the kind of stupidity that we have become used to from NL,unfortunately. It’s like he started to pick the side from goalie to forward line, got to the striker and wondered who was left. God,how Rogic suffered. God,how we suffered.
Lennon probably fell asleep after a few beers or summat. Gross dereliction of duty by him to send out the most ill-equipped (and reluctant) striker since Maggie Thatcher donned a miner’s helmet for a photoshoot. You guys really should check the number of appearances made by Rogic and CalMac first time round v since, and also Rogic’s appearances since NL’s return. And judging by their performances since that return,I suggest NL told them both that they would never make it at the club as long as he was in charge. And on that point I am quite serious. Would you play for a manager with an attitude like that?
That is not a football manager for the 21st Century,it’s not even a football manager for the last two decades of the last one. But it IS Neil Lennon.
Neil’s boy wonder Bitton was playing as usual. Considering the number of times Livingston put the ball into our box-how many times did he win one? Or in any game EVER? Fuxake,he made Duffy look good. Laxalt was Laxalt,I wish everyone tried as hard as him and I would love to see him in a decent side. He deserves one,but he won’t get it at Celtic Park. Ralston actually rivalled Soro for our MOTM,and I was pleasantly surprised. Though when I say rivalled,I mean a distant second.
The rest might as well have used their VST like the rest of us. The only thing I could think of at half time was that we needed a bigger bench-because there was barely a player worthy of a second half and we could have subbed the lot.
In fact,we could have got a sub to torpedo the lot! But the torpedoes were already delivered. Delivered by our summer policy which held players against their will. Delivered longterm by questionable at best recruitment. By appointing a yes-man,and one with major faults,as a manager. I could go on,but I’ll leave you with this.
He put Tom Rogic up front, and expected him to be supplied the ammo by Frimpong and Johnston. And he still hasn’t been fired.

The downsizing has caught up with us, all of this is on Lawwell’s head.
Poorer manager, poorer off field in all the following departments sports science, diet, training, coaching, and it shows on the park, the player look lost and unfit most of the time.
Nothing will change until we have people running the club who will invest what we have in the best available in all departments.
LanarkBhoy
Think we were a better team under Liam Brady or Lou Macari.
That is how bad we are currently.
I’m shattered at how quickly and how far our team has fallen over the last few months. More than half of contributors on here were at least doubtful about Lenny’s appointment, many downright hostile. We were all bemused at his being offered the job in the showers at Hampden. I mean, WTF?
Our directors really have shown total disregard for the fans. But they know that many fans will support the club whatever and critics will be shouted down as being disloyal and not appreciative of what Lenny has endured on our behalf.
Let’s be clear. Lenny suffered all of that because there are sick, bigoted bastards out there who can’t abide the thought of an unrepentant Tim from the North of Ireland being a success at Celtic, especially when their own club died. None of this speaks to his abilities as a coach or tactician. Lenny was chosen because of his popularity among the fans, he was cheap compared to BR, and, being unemployed, would be more amenable to cost cutting of off field expenses. Our south side rivals were way behind and even Lenny could keep them at bay. In any business, such poor judgement is a sacking offence.
I hear that Ross Desmond is a more active Celtic fan than his dad. Does he attend games? Does he read this or any other fans’ blogs? If so, and he does take an active role, then we might have a chance of a clear out in the boardroom and a revamp of the coaching and team management. If there’s no meaningful change and another cheap option as head coach is appointed, then we’re in for more of the same.
ATOB worries that it may be too disruptive for PL to be removed without his successor shadowing his position for a transition period. I’d get him out the door asap. We’re already in such a mess. The new regime needs to do its own thing from day one and not be tainted or constrained by the old guard.
Eddie Howe did a great job for Bournemouth and I’m sure he would bring a progressive coaching team with him, but does he have the strength of character to be the face of Celtic? Does anyone with a young family want to enter the sectarian cess pit of Scoddish fitba’? Is he equipped to deal with the laptop loyal press corps? I genuinely don’t know. If we have a Director of Football of sufficient stature working alongside him, I’d feel less apprehensive.
There must be numerous capable, progressive and ambitious coaches out there who could do the job.but without the penny pinching dead hand of PL hovering in the shadows.
We’re at a major crossroad. If we take the correct turn, this episode can become a bad memory. If not, it will be a hellish nightmare.
Just thinking. How do we think Jock Stein would have got on with PL? Who would have won that battle? What does your answer tell you about the state of our club?
This thinking carry on will have to stop. Doin’ ma nut in.
I have seen three really good spells in my time watching Celtic. We had a top line manager/coach during each. Jock, Martin and Brendan. The three of them insisted on, and got, complete control of team matters. Result, great success on the park.
Whenever the suits have control, result has been abject failure on the park.
I’m no genius, and I was no footballer, but I can look at evidence and come to a reasoned opinion. Let people do the job they’re paid for. Managers expect the sack if they don’t get results. Nothing personal. Get the best manager available. Pay the going rate and provide him with all the tools required to run a big, modern club. We can’t afford not to. What good is having money in the bank when you play a half fit Tom Rogic as centre forward ffs? We only had the big kitty because BR put such a good team together.
It simply defies logic to try to run the club on the cheap.
We have never consolidated our position when we’ve gained ascendancy. Maybe the “old firm” has always been a joint enterprise. Keep the plebs in Scotland bitterly divided and don’t let one side be top dog for too long. Imagine a Scotland not divided so.

Concise and entirely accurate summary M. Not a lot more to be said on the disappointment that was Saturday.

Excellent comments. It’s taken a mess up of major proportions to get us here and most of it lies at the door of Lawwell. My thoughts on him staying doesn’t mean I want him to stay, just that he knows so much getting rid straight away may be worse long term.
Garry,
From last night. If you knew that the downsize to Lennon was so bad that you didn’t renew your season book why did you still think he could beat the Huns 4-0 in October 2020. It’s because people have been denying what they have been watching that he is still in a job and we are 20 plus points behind an 8 year old club. Criticism doesn’t mean I despise him as you wrongly suggested. It just means I am telling the truth.
Hamilton tim et al
I really enjoyed the comments last night about renewing/not renewing. All respectful and understanding of others viewpoint. We’re hurting right now but I feel this crisis is an opportunity and if Desmond plays it right we’ll be ready to go come August.

“if Desmond plays it right we’ll be ready to go come August ” .
I posit he ( Desmond) HAS played it right ( from his point of view ) and we PLUS sevco will be ” ready to go ” come August .
A “strong competitive old firm ” is what I believe was his ” long game ” and by all accounts he plays the long game well .
Well played DD , well played !

No problem and let me know how you get on!
Take care!
Enjoying the different view discussions on here and good to see HT posting last night who thinks the opposite of myself but I respect his decision to keep contributing because that was me for 30 odd years until 2012.
I think he is right there will be no boycotting of season tickets or people attending and 1994 was a good example. i suggested recently using all the modern techno!ogy available to us should we not be bombarding celtic with questions for them to answer on there reasons for doing or not doing things that affect celtic and Scottish football and let them know how their actions affect each person’s personal life.
Could the CT lead on this and ask their members what questions they would like to ask on their behalf wether its on field matters, recruitment, res12, same club myth, forward planning, refereeing etc. The suits are there to look after the club on our behalf so being asked these types of questions would maybe be a good insight for supporters or suits to think about things differently or open people’s eyes to the skullduggery of football.
I would ask
1. why we continue to recognise a new club as a club who are in liquidation and left multi millions of pounds of debt before they followed Third Lanark.
2. How has the club become so unprofessional both on and off the park and allowed ourselves to play at the same level as clubs with nowhere near the finances we have.
3. Who has the final say on buying and selling of players.
4. What succession plans do we have both in the boardroom, coaching and on the field.
5. What involvement did we have in the 5 way agreement and can we see the final document.
6. Have we questioned why referees are allowed to referee games involving the team they support and have we questioned the number of strange decisions these referees come to.
I’m sure most fans have roughly the same questions to ask so the list wouldn’t be too long for the CT for example to create a sub committee to organise it.
100% agreement. Fed up with people dressing up Neil, he doesn’t care if he did he would never came back in the first place. He is a sunday league football dad shouting at the weans from the sideline, who has no grasp of the game and is too cool to learn it. Huge mistake by Peter, warning signs first time with drink related issues with Thommo and Mcgregor from the huns then again at Bolton and Hibs but somehow Peter thought this time it would be different.
Millionaires are not stupid or soft. Neil is either a place man or Peter and Dermott are at it for the blue pound. Its one or the other.
But Neil looks to me like a mercenary rather than a legend. I would never put my wife and kids through what he went through never mind put them in line for it again.
Very angry and frustrated Hoop.

Great questions, all of which would have the board squirming uncomfortably!
Unfortunately we are unlikely to get a truthful answer to any of them,as previous experience confirms.
KLV
Aye,the McGregor stories had reached me in Swindon too! Some of which in particular read very badly.
Bobby, someone told me that Neil tried to get Thommo back this time round and Peter said no. Also the non disclosure at Hibs is a huge question mark.
Not having a go at the man as life’s hard, but why put yourself through the stress again and if your Peter who put a man with so many questions over his personal life in that position again and expect a different outcome.
KLV
KLV
Agree on Neil.
How the support are so empathetic to a guy who has slated them conveniently often is baffling.
On the drinking rumors i know nothing but i have been vehemently opposed to him returning as( head coach) though it’s a description i am not sure fits his performance.
I thought he was lucky in his first tenure as our better players carried him to victory without any discernible shape or system.
It was a one horse race though.
This time i definitely did not want him for reasons above but particularly because i felt he would destroy our youth.
The resulting disaster of his employment is no surprise.
If everybody followed Hamilton Tims approach there would be no Celtic FC to cherish.
Has anyone from the Celtic Trust actually managed to explain that by rejecting the chance to support Resolution 12 they are contravening every single one of their own operating principles.
Quite simply that isn´t a good look.
If anyone can explain that to me in any personal capacity I would be entirely grateful.
I´ll be here for the next 20 years
And if the answer involves faith or blowing your trumpet about past charitable do goodery then the Celtic Trust is already a busted flush.
AWE NAW
👍🏻👍🏻
Fan, yeah the board thought they were being fly with division of the support when they gave Neil the job, hearts said yes and minds said no, anyone with any knowledge of the game knew he was a bad choice and the he’s one of ours gang said he will be great. He hasn’t learned a thing since his first round at the club and this time round his ego is an additional problem for us as fans to deal with.
We are not in a good place and we need rid. We have a squad that needs direction, fitness, positional clarity and get back to the basics of the game. There is not an improvement in the team anywhere and at some point you must look yourself in the mirror and say I can’t do this and walk away, but I think watching Neil in the past 18 months he will need to be pushed, he can’t see its him and thats a shame for everyone especially us, Peter to blame for the 10 but if Neil walked months ago it could have been saved as Peter would have had to react.
Amusing looking at people slag Jack Ross and Eddie Howe as not having enough experience etc, to take over when we have a man in charge just now who is severely unqualified for the role.
10 was doomed in the showers at Hampden.
KLV
Bobby the questions shouldn’t make a well run and honest organisation squirm and they should welcome it as a way to give a voice to those who pay their wages and bonuses especially just now with the bad feeling around the club.
If the questions are not answered honestly then we have the answers on record and the fans can make their own minds up and may provide evidence to any untruths.
Hopefully the CT (not HT who posted last night as we all do his own personal thoughts) will explain their decision on res12 or change their minds based on the majority of members wanting it taken forward.
“What Celtic undertook in writing on the AGM 2020 Notice to do was to engage with relevant authorities but with fuzziness added in terms of being in the Company’s interest, no timetable and who would they actually report back to and when the 2021 AGM?…….
By making this “commitment” Celtic were justifying not acting on Res12 2013 because they said they would take over from the Res12 group the task of bringing the SFA to account because that is what engagement would be (and in line with a core aim of Res12 in 2013)…….
What was then put to the CST but appears to have got lost in translation was in effect to make sure Celtic carried out their undertaking in the AGM notice and kept their word to shareholders.”
(Auldheid)
Now I don’t think that was an outrageous thing to suggest the CST carry out. It was not confrontational. (I believe that is a no no with the Trust).
I don’t know if the CST have their ears to the ground or not, but let me assure you that the committee decision not to take this monitoring job on board has went down like a lead balloon!
——————————————
The above was my post on the CST website Saturday morning. I regretfully C&P it here because there has been no reply since from the Trust. Nor from any other member, but as the post is still ‘in moderation’ maybe it is not visible to other members.
It is a very inactive site in terms of the membership. Perhaps it all happens on Twitter or something that I am not a member of.
Unnamed Celtic player tests positive for covid.
AFTERNOON ALL before i make my comment i used to love reading hamilton tim and tony donnelly jousting with each other on the other channel, both good celtic men but with differing opitions, thats why im in awe naws camp, if you dont boycott what other piece of armoury have you got against these charlatans, in my opinion if you dont buy a season ticket its the only way to get rid of lawwell and his cohorts for ever, BTW dont know anything about eddie howe, but if he is appointed manager it will be the same old same old, eddie you do as i say and we will get on like a house on fire ,or else, lawwell GTF.H.H.
Quite right Packy, until we get rid of Lawwell nothing will improve on the pitch. A ridiculous thing to have to admit. An accountant in charge of the football side of things.

ATOB
My apologies L. Despise was too strong a term. I posted it, tongue in cheek.
Regarding my 4-0 prediction in October. I genuinely thought we would have put them to the sword that day. My optimism diminished, one hour before kick off, when I read the Celtic team sheet for the match.
We both play Chalmersbhoy Score Predictor, we both get results wrong. I have backed the Huns to be beaten every game they have played this season, and Celtic to win every game.
Just the way I am. Had I backed the huns to win every week, I would be at least 20 points higher in Chalmersbhoy table.
I gave my Season Ticket up 18 months ago, as I could see the writing on the wall. Written large was, Downsizing. Still watch every Celtic match on illegal streams, but for the first time in 50 years of watching Celtic, I have not given them a penny.
Still support the team, but not the club anymore. Will return to Paradise, when Peter Lawwell is removed from Office along with Bankier and rest of the Board.
Hopefully that will be next season.
Once again ATOB, sorry for putting words into your mouth.
Bada 2.19.
I was just ready to post that.
If Celtic done nothing wrong, why did Lawwell apologise.
As an aside, Neil looks really unwell, his eyes are really sunk, that is never a good sign, in anyone.
Bada
FFS. He looks like he is on a heavy come down.
Should have kept quiet.
Wish he would speak like that when talking about referees. It would be worth a red card.
Well it is Monday, January 18 and both NL and PL are still in place as the club reels from one disaster to another. The latest, of course, are the performance of Saturday and the not unexpected news of another Covid case in the squad. There were rumours on Saturday of change but these seem to have faded. I recognise that it is difficult to get rid of a CEO but it is clear keeping him in place is also going to hurt the club. For example, recruitment this transfer window is probably shot which means the dice will be rolled as we attempt to qualify for the CL with largely the same squad.
Delay in taking decisive action has made the situation worse. Results continue to be poor. Youngsters are thrown in at the deep end. When it is clear that the manager cannot do his job effectively, his assistants are found to be inadequate as well. And now because no action was taken on the coaching staff, we are in a situation where we either gamble on signings sanctioned by a CEO whose judgement is flawed, or we do not sign anyone.
I do not want anything to do with it any more. For me, Celtic was the only reason that I tolerated the corruption that is the Scottish game. To survive and thrive in that environment, the club needed to be run more efficiently and effectively than any other club. It is a long, long way from being that type of club.
PL, you have failed the Celtic fanbase at the worst possible time. Fans supported the club in the worst of times and, through your consistently bad decision making, you have taken away their hope that Celtic would be the one shining star in this global mess.
I want nothing more to do with you, the club, and Scottish football.
Until real change has happened, I shall leave all things Celtic. Even then, I am not sure I shall risk my emotions again.
All the best to everyone on this blog. It is a good place to spend time.
Bye,

Thanks for the reply. It’s appreciated and understood. Can’t see you and I falling out and I look forward to meeting up when times are better.
Bada,
Thanks for the link to Neil Lennon. Utterly mind blowing. He needs relieved of his duties immediately. That was embarrassing for the club and for him. As JNP says and KLV earlier he should not have been put in this high pressure situation and it needs to end now. It’s painful to watch.

Fine leader today. My only disagreement would be on Laxalt. While I don’t know the stats, how many times have we been beaten when GT has played at LB? Damn few, I’ll warrant.
Taylor suffers abuse from the younger element of the support for two reasons:
1. He is not KT.
2. He ‘only’ signed from Kilmarnock.
Someone should tell these people that some of the best signings in our history have come from Scottish clubs. I believe Taylor to be a fine player if he is ALLOWED to be. None of this wing-back pish. Let the man play a role he is comfortable in. That goes for all the players.
One cameo should stand as a lesson on NL’s ability as a manager. Young Frimpong. The youngster is never a right back…and any decent manager would know that. Play the fella as an out and out winger ffs, and tell him to hit the bye line at ever opportunity. My point is that Lennon does not have a clue.He is tacticlly inept. That’s why he came so cheaply. He is a pliant and biddable individual…right up Lawwell’s alley. He achieved nothing at Bolton or Hibs to warrant a return to the Hoops. Quite the reverse. For the man’s health he should be relieved of his duties immediately. Duty of care springs to mind.
Sorry to disagree with ATOB, but Lawwell must go with immediate effect. The man is a toxic presence at Celtic Park. No class manager will take the job if this fecker rules the roost. Let the total bastard leave with his stolen millions. That’s all you will be taking with you Blue Peter…apart from the lifetime resentment and hatred that will follow you wherever you go. Not from the Huns though. Hell no. You’re a hero to them, and always will be. For shame Lawwell. For shame.
There must be a total change of mindset from DD. To hell with all this O.F. crap. Next time we get a chance to bury them, bloody well do so. Europe is where it’s at …and has been from the days of Big Jock. He can also ditch all the fantasy EPL lark. Ain’t gonna happen. No chance.
Lastly, if we have a clear out and there are no further leaks, we’ll know that the culprit was one of those that were let go. I do hope that this moron is caught and punished. Says a lot about Lennon though. Take the first Huns game. Any intelligent manager would have named a bogus team line-up the day before…and allowed this to be leaked to the press. Then on the day of the game, played a totally different line-up/formation, catching the Huns cold. Too simple a plan for Lennon, I guess.
Hail Hail.

I thought the first video Bada posted was bad enough, this is off the scale.
It’s like he had a zoom call with his pals last night, whilst drunk, and said this will be a good idea in the morning and has actually gone through with it.
Neil is being slaughtered on Twitter, by the vast majority of Celtic fans.
A few agreeing with political point scoring, no one agreeing with the 2 points comment.

Agreed-and I said last week that Taylor is a better player than he is given credit for,but today I was only dealing with the players from Saturday.

Now, leave.

I’m not sure how much of the presser you have seen.
It’s moon howling, he’s saying he doesn’t believe anyone has Covid, His presser goes from bad to worse.
He then says It’s ludicrous that you have to isolate because you’ve come into someone who has tested positive.
His interview has saddened me.
It’s his equivalent of standing in a hedge.
Magua
Almost totally agree with your post mate, however, I am one of the not so young team, who cannot see any good qualities in Greg Taylor, whatsoever. What is it about his game you like?
For me, he cannot defend, is weak in the challenge, hopeless in the air, cannot stop crosses into our box, has no pace, cannot go by a player on the wing, constantly hits the first defender with his crosses. Diego Laxalt is a far superior player in my view.
JimmynotPaul,
Just finished work and seen a 42 second clip.
I liked it, especially as I would like to know which hun bassa decided all our strikers had to isolate?
Why were the full squad not isolated?
Might give full presser a miss now 😁
