Celts For Change 2021

A modern day Protest

We never thought that the club would ever be in a place that would make us feel like the Celts for change days back in 1993/94, but here we are we do feel like that, and it seems we need a Celts for change 2 to give the support a voice.

Things are a lot different now as the club are not going to go bust, and we will not be able to remove the owners, but we can let them know that we are all heartbroken and bewildered by recent events.

Some things sadly are just the same, as this board are just as disconnected from the fans as they were then.

Other things have changed as mobile phones, social media were not around, and the country was not in the midst of a pandemic, so we will need to use what we have available, to try and send a message to the board that they understand and that is by using modern technology to effect the numbers who follow the club on social media and what we spend with them.

We will try to reduce the numbers using the social media outlets of the club, the amount of mailings that they sent out, so that the marketing and commercial departments take note.

We will try to reduce the amount of income that the fans give the club as this is what Accountants love and they will notice the reduction of the hard-earned cash we spend.

The plan is to use the next 6 months before season ticket renewals are due to make our voices heard.

Action plan

Not spending any, money at the club, the shop, cancel pools etc.

Unfollow any official club accounts on twitter,

Unfriend/Unfollow any official Facebook pages

Unsubscribe from any official club web sites, shop account, any mailing list, etc.

Send back any mailings, return to sender.

Hold out when season ticket renewals come in until there is change.

We will explain and explore all the ways to do the above, and add any new objectives as we progress.

What do we want?

The immediate resignation/sacking of the

He has to go now otherwise any change will be superficial and of limited impact.

We base this on the following.

He has been in post for 18 years,

His part in the 5-way agreement,

His reply to shareholders about not seeing something that was in an email to him,

Failure to deal with RES 12,

Gave a casual nod of acceptance to all the cheating before and after 2012,

No effort to implement FFP,

Not challenging the SFA about numerous refereeing mistake’s,

Briefing the press against the club manager,

Numerous transfer issues- McGinn, Shved, Compper, Fletcher, etc, etc, etc.

Hiring the club manager in a shower,

Not looking at CV’s that were in a drawer,

The abandonment of the sports science, diet, training and all round professionalism on the football side of the club,

Lack of forward planning in all areas,

And finally but not least Dubai

In our view, these and many other reasons will be his legacy.

When he goes, there must be a Director of football appointed who has complete control of the Football budget and all football departments.

Every Celtic site was handed free manna from heaven yesterday with the extraordinary Press conference when the support finally seen fight, grit and determination just not on the field of play as expected.
There will be a ton of opinion out there, hard to avoid it today in Celtic cyberspace.
But avoid it we will.
For one reason only, bigger news.
The birth of Celts for Change 2021.

A new group being spawned is much bigger in the grand scheme of things, though Scottish football and in particular the big teams in Glasgow excel at providing almost daily talking points, merely the new name itself is enough to conjure up some interest from those of a certain vintage.

I know some of the original Celts for Change read this blog, I’m delighted some of the new group do also, and hopefully when all this is said and done both ‘factions’ can sit around the table sharing pints and tales, a better Glasgow Celtic all they ever wanted and all they ever fought for.
Its clear that no two circumstances will ever be alike, just life I suppose, which means no two endings will ever be the same also, so dont expect the Bunnet mark 2 is the point.
A lack of finance is not the main problem we face right now, being a business over a football club just is not working out when the business deems not tearing too far ahead is ‘in the companies best interests’.

The actions of the original group did hugely help shape the direction of our club, but ironically the path chosen has lead us here, it hasn’t went as originally planned by all accounts. For some the shares were a lot of money to part with back then, many would have opted not to should they have known we would just be gerrymandered later, which Fergus may not have foreseen.

Now we are facing the opposite situation. Now funds need to be withheld to send a message.

Just as the support look back now at the original movement and feel they were justified in their actions then, so Celts For Change 2021 must hope to be similarly judged by Tims of the future.
Its every fans right to stand up and/or band together if they are feeling unfairly treated, and thats a polite way to describe the vibe these days.
If presiding over one of the biggest sporting shambles I have ever seen doesnt initiate major structural change, then its incumbent upon the fans to act for the better good of the club fullstop,, groups like the above are merely a manifestation of supporter frustration which could be nipped in the bud but never is.

As far as I’m concerned the more groups and organisations the better although thats not to say all the lone voices dont count, but at this stage saying and doing nothing but the usual paying up is probably the very worst thing you could do to Glasgow Celtic right now which is saying something. We dont know how this turns out, whether death by a thousand cuts (in which case the more groups the better), or a new head seeing the sense in bringing the support onside, but inaction is not an option here.
Something needs done before we sink lower and lower.
I heard today someone suggest return Duffy and bring in Declan Gallagher to ‘cement second place’ and I thought thats where we are in record time, invincibles to saving second place in a few short years, Jesus wept.
Its gotta end. It must.

I would ask all to please take the time to fill out the above petition, which is only a start but a step in the right direction.

Hail Hail

I might be a bit thick but this petition to me reads shareholders? If I am wrong I apologize, but if I am right it just makes another splinter group. The Season Ticket holders, the shoppers, the CTV subscribers etc etc are all left out
The other problem I have is the managers win Lose record is brutal he should be fired along with PL it’s a performance based position
The manager spoke out about the government and one of our ex players ,,afraid it a little too late ,and he missed the refs and the SFA. And it was not his position to call them out he can get suspended for that The CEO should be calling out anyone who wants to take cheap shots at CFC.
I hope I am wrong on the petition but it’s obvious SCs are not the only group who are stirring
Celts for Change 21 should include all fans of Celtic in their petition

January 19, 2021 7:07 am

The petition makes no mention of shareholders, and in the above article, action is clearly aimed at every facet of club/fan contact.

Nobody needs to be a shareholder to buy a shirt from the shop,be a season ticket holder, play the pools, follow the club on social media. The group are asking that we ALL boycott these areas until change is made.

January 19, 2021 7:13 am

Whoever dreamt up that display is a genius! I hope you still have the C in your drawer. If not,we have a bunch of them in the boardroom…

January 19, 2021 7:26 am

Not just Celtic getting called out over a trip to Dubai, though I doubt you’ll see the story on Sky or in the DR.

January 19, 2021 8:13 am

The petition and the group are open to all Celtic Fans who have lost faith in the CEO and want their voice heard.

January 19, 2021 8:16 am

Yes still have the sweatshirt, managed to get Peter Grant to sign it before he knew what it meant, he told me to keep it quiet at the time but I am sure he won’t mind now.

Link to the petition C&Ped to the Celtic Supporters Trust website. It’s in moderation. I get the feeling it will stay there. One can but try!

January 19, 2021 9:50 am

Maybe just me but i felt Neil’s press conference was just a well planned PLC squirrel?
As part of the PLC’s divide and conquer strategy it worked well.
When he is released from his coaching duties the innuendo of anger and unravelling will be their attempt to distance themselves for appointing someone unfit for the job in an incredibly amateurish way in the Hampden showers.
They turned the support against BR who had brought great success rather than admit their dishonesty, unkept promises and a Lying Emperor’s ego precipitated his departure.
While Rodgers was not without blame they shackled his attempt to improve us with lies and deliberate sabotage of his transfer wants to satisfy Lawwell’s ego and Emperor status.
I write this as no fan of Neil who should never have been near the job but fans should not allow the real culprits to deflect the blame.
They have sacrificed many good Celtic men in their lust for money and power.

January 19, 2021 11:02 am

You are probably right as usual-but if so,that is just another example of how much that lot have misread the situation and the feelings of the fans.

We know where the buck stops for all of this.

January 19, 2021 11:21 am

Morning all, Fan and Bobby, I disagree I thought Lennon was impulsive and reactionary. If it had been planned I think his performance and responses would have been more measured and less erratic. I think it was months of pressure being released. Although, I think the Board Zoom meeting this morning will see a consensus that they’re happy not to be the subject of conversation this morning!

January 19, 2021 11:33 am

Signed and shared widely.
Hopefully this is the start of a campaign that gives ordinary Celtic supporters a voice.
The Celtic Support United,

January 19, 2021 12:21 pm

Who is the names behind this @For Celtic or #CeltsForChange ?

Why is it only Peter Lawwell as the target ?
What about Chairman Bankier ? Or any of the other board stooges ?

January 19, 2021 12:36 pm

You have a point re the other board stooges-see tomorrow’s article-but Lawwell is the one in the sights because the rest are an irrelevance.

January 19, 2021 12:46 pm

There would have been no Bankier or Riley near Celtic, if Peter Lawwell was not CEO.
They are his friends and placemen, although Riley stepped down due to health reasons.
As we both noticed this season though, Eric Riley still sits in the stand and watches our games. How does he get access to Celtic Park during this pandemic, when the ordinary Celtic supporter cannot?

January 19, 2021 12:53 pm

You answered your own question “other board stooges”

When it is a one man bandwagon you go for the one man, would not be able to name all the board as they are invisible.

January 19, 2021 12:55 pm

Get signing the petition ghirls and bhoys NOW!!!

January 19, 2021 1:04 pm

Have all the main Celtic fan sites been made aware of the petition?

January 19, 2021 1:19 pm

Petition signed. One wee issue that I have, is that while I believe the DOF should have charge of the budget, the manager should have full control of all other footballing matters, otherwise we are into a Win Jansen v Jock Brown scenario.

Hail Hail.

If we’re going for Eddie Howe, we better move now, Newcastle could bag Bruce anytime now,he would be on their list

January 19, 2021 1:37 pm

Talk about an apathetic support. Petition has been up 16 hours and has had 36 people sign according to the petition site page😮🤔.
“Come on tae feck ghirls and bhoys” it is pointless whingeing on about how bad things are at Celtic and how much we need change if you don’t at least act when given an opportunity to do so.

As Mahe said “only a start but a step in the right direction”

Fingers oot CSC

January 19, 2021 1:38 pm

IMO,the budget should be agreed between the manager,DoF and CEO. Manager and DoF decide who to go for based on that and CEO does the negotiation.

Unfortunately all decisions are currently made by the CEO. And have been for some time.

January 19, 2021 1:39 pm

Correct. The site views will be well into four figures by now. Very disappointing, but we will continue to push it.

January 19, 2021 1:45 pm

I would honestly prefer Bruce than Howe as next Celtic manager.
Want neither though.

January 19, 2021 1:56 pm

Defence leaks like a sieve and we are rubbish at set pieces,throw-ins especially. So Tony Pulis it is then!

January 19, 2021 1:57 pm

Phil McG claims that he has been reliably informed( i know🙄) that Celtic recently tentatively approached an EPL quality manager to enquire if he would be interested in the managers post should there be a vacancy in the near future. Allegedly he politely told them he wouldn’t go near it with the current management structure still in place.

I believe there is an element of truth there as i would very much doubt that any manager of the quality we want and badly need would consider the position given Brendan’s recent experience dealing with the boards current CEO.

January 19, 2021 2:06 pm

Any EPL manager worth his salt, would sound out Brendan Rodgers about the Celtic position, and the structure of the club.
It would be a very short phone call.

January 19, 2021 2:17 pm

If I was Dermot Desmond, I would be making contact with Ralf Rangnick to offer him the CEO/Director of Football position at Celtic, and ask him to bring fellow German Thomas Tuchel with him as Head Coach.
You don’t ask the question, you don’t get the answer.

There are converts to the cause to be had there – maybe🤔 I lurk, infrequently, on the other channel but have noted a change in position from a lot of the posters albeit the ‘Furher Bunkerist’ contributors still maintain there is nothing untoward football is cyclical and the malcontents are either Huns, not proper Celtic fans or spoiled brats but there has been a marked change in attitude and an increase in the number of posts ripping the crap out of the PLC and Lenny’s management.

Anywho we need to get the word out to as many Tims as possible so if you frequent any other Tim sites post a link to the petition.

January 19, 2021 2:36 pm

I very much doubt that CQN is the biggest Celtic site online. Huddleboard and Kerrydale Street are much bigger.
Celtic supporters in 2021 are truly apathetic. They like to moan and whinge on Social Media sites, but do SFA. I posted the link on a large Celtic WhatsApp group.
Every response to my post was negative.
All from a group of folk you will recognise from CQN.

January 19, 2021 2:56 pm

I like the cut of Celts for Change jib.

The problem will be getting supporters to read why these objectives

His (PLs) part in the 5-way agreement,

His reply to shareholders about not seeing something that was in an email to him,

Failure to deal with RES 12,

Gave a casual nod of acceptance to all the cheating before and after 2012,

No effort to implement FFP, and this presents challenge to SC posters.

If you don’t make the time to read the information on http://www.res12.uk starting at the most recent

then working back to 2018 then we can hardly complain if the CFC movement fails.

Read it and spread it IF it supports a case for PL’s removal because knowledge IS power so please take on the power of knowledge.

Its not difficult to arrive at a conclusion having read the case , the difficulty is in getting enough supporters to read it and focus on the cause of Celtic’s current problems and not the bloody symptoms.

PS when reading look for one not listed by CFC but might be still which is Celtic’s abject failure to challenge the LNS Decision that legitimised the ebt titles.

That is more than a sacking offence. It is a pitchfork job.

As a matter of interest what do your son’s make of the current situation at Celtic. Do they care? If they do care what would be their chosen method for fixing the malaise?
