Good show bhoys .

Twisty

Morning all
Listened to the podcast. ( sound was pretty patchy throughout the last 10 minutes bhoys)

My take on the past, present and future.

The past.

Leading up to the SC final victory, I think most of us were bemoaning the fact that the standard of football was deteriorating at an alarming rate since the departure of Brendan Rodgers. For me personally, I recall thinking that if Lenny could just get us over the line, he’d leave a hero, and we could get on with rebuilding . Following that cup final victory, and the now infamous shower scene where Lenny was given the position on a permanent basis, I still remember the disappointment. It took the shine of the victory for a lot of us.
We awoke the next day to this statement from PL:

“There was no better candidate”

So the best candidate for the manager position at Celtic Park was a man who had a 38% win record in a combined total of 202 matches with Bolton and Hibs.
Whether you wanted NL or not there is no denying that his statement there was no better candidate out there was simply nonsense.

Alarm bells were ringing loud and clear.

The present.

I think it’s fair to say those alarm bells proved justifiable. In a relatively short period we watched the standard of play accelerate from being on a slippery slope to falling off a cliff.
Every player has regressed. Excuse after excuse has followed. None of those excuses has captured the real reason, that being the ability of the manager, who said some months ago that he would know if it was time to walk away. That time has long since passed. The TIAR challenge fizzled out before Santa had loaded up. The fact is though, that the slump in playing standards is only the tip of the iceberg. As you’ll probably be aware, the tip of the iceberg is only 10% of the problem. The other 90% lies much deeper below the surface.

The statement from the board that there would be a January review? Another lie in the litany of untruths that we’ve come to expect from this board. No point in covering it in any more detail. It’s been done to death and with a far greater degree of erudition than I’m able to offer.

Where does it leave us?

The future.
So PL has decided to walk.
Dominic McKay will fill the hot seat. The appointment of Dominic has been welcomed in most quarters. He seems to have carried out a vg job in his current role, and gained respect in doing so. Forward thinking, modern ideas is what we are hearing. It would seem more due diligence was carried out in fulfilling this position than was carried out in the manager role.
My concern in this though. The next 4-5 months. This state of limbo we are currently in.
For the life of me I cannot understand why Celtic did not bring him in NOW. I appreciate there are notice periods etc, however, there is a mountain of work to be done between now and the summer.
The entire shooting match needs to be addressed.
The Director of football role has got to be the number one priority.
That will take time.
Then you have the manager role. The DOF. needs to be key in that appointment. Then the manager needs his coaching staff. New players in. Players out. CL qualification.
What we cannot afford to do is drift along till the end of the season and make rushed decisions . For goodness sake use this period of what effectively is dead time wisely.

Branching off from those key positions there is even more work to be done. Budgets. Succession planning. KPI’s for every role. Months of planning. Months. Not a few days or weeks in July.

This next period will tell us a lot as to whether lessons have been learned or we are in for more of the same

Twisty

On the point of season ticket renewal numbers. Will you won’t you?
I genuinely don’t think that question can be answered with any degree of accuracy. My reasoning is this.

If you accept there are 3 possible groups at the moment.

1. I’m renewing.
2. I’m on the fence
3. I’m not renewing.

Regardless of what % each of those groups currently represent, can it be assumed they’ll remain that way?

The easiest group to deal with is probably number 2.
If you’re on the fence, I think it’s fair to say you are there for either one or two reasons, or both? You’re unhappy with PL and/or you’re unhappy with NL.
One of those concerns has been addressed with the departure of PL. The other one, will, I’m 99.9% certain be addressed between now and the end of the season. NL WILL go.
However, who will come in? If it was ( example only) , Eddie Howe, you’d probably fall over the fence to the “ ‘I’m renewing ‘camp. If however it was announced the new manager is ( again example only) John Kennedy, there’s a fair chance you’ll fall on the other side of the fence?

Group 1. You’re definitely renewing? Is that a certainty? What if the aforementioned scenario of JK materialises? I’m pretty sure a number would reconsider.

Group 3
You’re not renewing?
Again, can that be taken as read? What if the new manager was Brendan Rodgers or Eddie Howe?

My point is that these debates on renewals are very much subject to change.

That period of limbo I referred to in my previous post, is a very good opportunity for the board to use it to their advantage by restructuring. Tell Neil he will be going . Start the recruitment now and let the fans see how serious we are about restoring former glories. That will see many more supporters join the numbers in group 1.

bada bing1

Twists- previously I was always Group 1,no matter what, now I’m in Group 2 ,Lennon,Kennedy, or an Alex Neil type and it’s a no from me.Hope you’re doing better.HH

That’s a splendid idea big chap….🤟🐴🍻🍻🍻🍻

You’re definitely going next season. Even if I’m the manager 😂

Seriously? I hope you are going. That’ll mean things are looking up.

I’m fine thanks. Was sitting here contemplating my score bet today.

0-1

Nah. We will concede.

1-2

Why have I just added a goal to our tally? Heart over head?

We are scoring regularly recently. 1-3 or 2-4
Where has the optimism came from? From my initial 0-1 to 1-3 or 2-4

So I decided I’ll go for 2-3. Why? Ach it’s 20/1😁

Twisty

Bada
If Eddie is back as fav, that guy who is trolling me by posting the John Kennedy as fav update better be in here today to give us a new update. One that I like 😁

Cosy Corner Bhoy

Needless to say, I am group 1. Not for any logical reasons. For one reason only. It’s in the genes. A happy bunny I am not. In all my years I have never felt so bewildered supporting the Celtic. From day one ALL of my family were against the permanent appointment of Neil Lennon. We needed a modern, forward thinking coach. We were given a dinosaur. It’s been the best/worst ‘ I knew this would happen’ ever! As Twists says we’ve gone backwards on all fronts. I may not have faith in the new man as I know nothing about him, but I have great hope.
As to today, do we really care? It’s a sad day when a Celtic supporter is not full of adrenaline at even the thought that there’s a game today. However, COYBIG.

I know just how much you’ll be looking forward to getting back to the matches. Hopefully when you do you’ll be watching quality football.

Noel Skytrot

Twisty,
i’m in a quandary with renewal, I’d categorise myself in the second group as I want to see change, whereas my father who I sit with is now talking of renewal as he is in no doubt that big changes are afoot, he recognises that there are massive issues needing addressed but thinks these will occur 100% It’s fecking murder.

Good post.

Sentinels
Listened to the podcast and could not get the vision of the Vultures/Beatles sitting in the trees saying What do you wanna do/I don’t know /What do you wanna do? from the Jungle Book out of my head.
We really are in a state of limbo just now.
With thousands of miles between you guys it seems fitting that Kipling wrote the Jungle Book while living in Vermont.
Enough of that nonsensical digression.
Some points of the podcast.
Goalie for me should be Barkas.
Hard enough to settle without losing your place in the team and neither Hazard or Bain have been better.
On the subject of effort it’s hard to tell if they are just baffled by coaching instruction so just look lazy and uncertain.
The lack of fitness is glaring and whoever is responsible fo that dept should be gone.
We obviously will need a new team but optimistically it surely could not be any worse than the one we have witnessed this season?
Ajeti ,McGregor and Welsh get a nod as nucleus but for me McGregor ‘s time is up.
Not his fault he has regressed so badly but for me despite his skill he lacks the mental strength required for the fight and positionally i don’t see him fitting.
Turnbull and Soro are the nucleus and i think Ajeti in a proper team will score plenty.
One thing that’s plain is the players do not respect Lennon and for good reason.
Surely the liar could have consulted with the playing squad before making the psychotic appointment in the showers?
We as fans and the club have to cut the cord with that shower of shite at ibrox.
The future needs planning without one eye across the river.
We have to stop being reactionary to our crap environment and take steps to build an infrastructure and team befitting our great fanbase.
Professionalism should be made a priority.
This may require a few seasons of pain but honesty with a clear message will keep the fans onboard.
For to long we have been reactionary as a business and football team so time to put the past behind and start being proactive with a visionary and modern approach.

Noel- I think we all want massive changes, but not from the position we find ourselves in now,I think in the coming years, it will show Lawwell up as holding the Club back during his tenure.

Lawwell should be seen in future terms as the enemy within.

I wonder if there will be age demographics at play with regards to the renewal conundrum.

The older supporter with experiences pre 2000( to take a year at random) who has seen success and failure and appreciates this as the nature of sport – The Faithful Supporter.

The more recent recruits who have generally seen nothing but success – The Spoilt Supporter.

Of course, this season is about much much more than Cups and the League.

The soul and direction of the Club is the real battleground.

Twisty

CFC
Definitely an age demographic bud.

I say that from speaking to my own close circle of family and friends. The younger ones are drifting away. Definitely a few fall in to the spoilt group.

Twisty

Right. Need to get to my mums before match time. Laterz .

This season has been particularly damaging to Celtic PLC.
Looming off field problems coming to a conclusion.
Dreadful on field performances and a dismissive board to paying customers.(how they view us.)
We are not the only sport to see younger audiences decline.
Lack of stadium attendance means youth have choice between social and electronic/games media versus watching amateurish Celtic tv and a poor team.
So no surprise the youth are drifting away.
If football teams had a clue an interactive stadium experience would be a way in engaging future fans.
In fairness our board probably have a plan to have this up and running by the year 3088.

Noel Skytrot

Bada,
I’m trying to keep my da informed of the skullduggery that’s been going on since 2012 and remind him of the ineptness of the board. Ultimately its his decision, just got to wait.

From Paul Larkin.
Just in case, anyone was in any doubt about his allegiances.
At least we don’t have to see Tommy Wright today. https://t.co/yr8TdmVkfZ

JimmynotPaul

This is cringeworthy and sums up Neil Lennon’s tenure.
Does he do any proper analysis on the opposition.?

“They’ve added goals to their games, Cal has got the best out of Stevie May who is having a resurgence in his form”

Stevie May has started 2 of their last 10 league games. He’s played 389 mins out of 900 and hasn’t scored a goal…

Enjoyed listening to Bobby & Mahe’s blether on the podcast. Well done lads!

It’s embarrassing, he’s stealing a wage, now, obviously trying to bluff it.
This is on top of what he said about St Mirren before the midweek game, too, where he clearly fluffed it.
S.Celts.
I’ve not caught up with podcast yet, will do so later.

Having said all that….
Stevie May was MOM in the 1-1 draw in the last meeting.

Barkas would be a better option in defence 😜

C.T. 11.39.
You are correct.
However that was more than 2 months ago.
It appears Neil hasn’t bothered looking at St Johnstone, since then, or he would have known that his comments are out of date.

CaltonTongues

JimmynotPaul,

I know, I just remember posting during the game that he was ‘rippin the pish’ we were that bad 😁
Anyway, I don’t listen to Neil anymore and just checked and May is on the bench.

A pretty awful 45 mins of what is supposed to be football 😱

JimmynotPaul

Since our game is poor.
Here’s yesterday’s honest mistake.
Kilmarnock pressing on the 88th minute yesterday and again the referee and linesman fail to punish rangers. “A bizarre decision”🤔The amount of times referee Don Robertson get it wrong in favour of rangers…….
