Ross County 1 – 0 Celtic

Ross County recorded their third home victory of the season last night against the reigning champions. That’s right-last weekend in February, only their third home victory, which explains why they went into the match holding up the rest of the table. That we lost, and deservedly so,explains why we won’t be getting our hands on a tenth successive title.

An absolutely awful performance, with the best two chances falling to Ryan Christie. The Ryan Christie who thinks he is a superstar would have put them away with ease. The one that plays for us made an arse of them. Same way that we yet again made an arse of defending every ball into our box,and the one that they scored from goes a long way to explaining why that is the case.

We have some big tall lads in our team, but none of them got anywhere near a ball whipped into the six-yard box. Our keeper decided that he would leave it to his defenders to clear, despite his obvious responsibilities to command that area and attack the ball himself. He stood motionless on the line as the ball flashed past him.

It isn’t Scott Bain’s fault that we didn’t score last night, but it is certainly down to him that we went a goal behind. And we rarely looked like getting it back either. It was almost a relief when the whistle went. An absolutely diabolical performance.

There are many amongst the support who didn’t want Neil Lennon anywhere near the job when it became available less than two years ago. I thought he was probably the man for the interim period,to get us over the line and crown a Rebel Treble. I was disgusted when he was given the job full time in the scariest shower scene since Psycho. I think that most of the fans at that stage would have preferred someone else.

Some were screaming for his head after the Ferencvaros shambles, and I thought he should have gone after we got hammered by the huns at home in October. Still more joined the groundswell against him with our Europa League “performances” but the last straw surely had to be the defeat at home to Ross County which saw us turfed out of The League Cup. There were still some left in his fan club at New Year, but the Dubai Debacle and a second defeat to the huns did for them. Well, nearly all of them. There were still some flat-earthers out there…

The only people left in the whole of Scotland who think that Lennon should be in charge of us next season are Lennon himself and the people who make the decisions. In fact,it looked like the players wanted to get rid of him as soon as possible,so bad was their performance last night!

Neil Lennon has long pased the stage where he as any claim to the position of Celtic manager. The board must do the right thing, something long overdue, and relieve him of his duties. They can put Mickey Mouse in charge for the rest of the season for all I care. At least he won’t come out after a performance like that and tell us all that we played really well.

So glad I was working tonight, and missed the Dingwall Debacle.
That match analysis says to me that we were shite once again.
No good enough M.

I saw VJ in concert. a few years ago, but wasn’t impressed. Lots of young girls screaming about how cute he was… but, that is actually a pretty good track. Might have to reconsider my position on VJ…

I had sussed a couple of The Avalanches samples.
The Duprees the obvious one.
That is some catholic musical influence they have. Magic 👍😊

I don’t know how you manage the late nights. But the country air has me sleepy, so I will bid you a good night.

Bobby good job of the hardest report you probably have had to write. I hope this is the last time you have write about Neil the manager. Somebody at Celtic Park should be charged with cruelty, ,cruelty to take your pick ,us or Neil

Having just experienced the worst performance of a Celtic team since the early 1990s I am writing to further express my disgust and frustration at the current situation at our Club.

I wrote to you on the 12th of January with a series of frustrations regarding how you and the Board have managed our Club in recent years and how things have transpired this season. You are aware of the importance of what should have been an historic Ten in a Row to the Celtic supporters but our capitulation has been dramatic and embarrassing in equal measure.

Thank you for replying by email to my letter but can I remind you that you intimated that you would address the issues raised in it. Your reply to me was a sop. You wrote that you would address mine and other supporters’ concerns when you released the Company Interim Report. You haven’t addressed these issues and my feeling is you won’t now either. Your behaviour is unbefitting of a man at the helm of our great Club.

Despite the promise to supporters of a Review of the Football Department in the New Year there have been no discernible changes to our structure and to date this year we have lost 15 points in 15 games leaving us in second place in the SPFL, an unacceptable 18 points behind The Rangers. You have had poor recruitment, over years not just this year. You have had poor continuity planning, again not just this year. You have a poor Academy to Senior level record, again not just this year. You have allowed the SFA/SPFL to dishonestly manage the game in this country. You have failed to pursue a Financial Fair Play Initiave to ensure Clubs work to affordable budgets. You have permitted our CEO to lie openly to Shareholders about specific subjects regarding the governance of the game in Scotland. You have overseen a dramatic downturn in the financial position of the Club. You have overseen our teams routinely dismantled by selling our best players with no replacement contingency plans. Our Buy Low Sell High policy has not been a success for the Football Department although it has led to obscene salaries and bonuses for our Executive Team.

These points are many and each point is multi-faceted and neither is the list exhaustive.

This season has been an unmitigated disaster from the start. Our short-termism approach to the core business, the Football Department, has seriously backfired and left us in wake of our resurgent rivals who could very well win their first, yes FIRST, League Title at our home ground. This is completely unacceptable to me and I’d suggest I also speak for a great majority of our support.

Mr Bankier, I suggest you have made untenable your position as Chairman of our Club and you should tender your resignation forthwith.

Regards, P McC

And nearly as apocalyptic as our bloody season!

February 22, 2021 5:38 am

Phil Mac says that the only reason he hasn’t resigned is that it will cost him a seven figure sum,and that the only reason he hasn’t been sacked is the same one!

Which for me sums up our board’s pennywise poundfoolish way of running the club. And no,I don’t blame Lennon for refusing to go without the payout-I would do the same, especially if it was likely to be my lost job.

A thing of beauty

That’s a brilliant letter. Well said that man.

I wonder what news will come out of Celtic park today.
Any other club on the planet would have an announcement today.

that’s a fantastic letter. I’ve composed an alternative response.

Get to fuck out of our club you ruinous bastards and take all the charlatans with you.

Warm regards

Packy, good morning.

Go and give the dogs a walk and whilst you’re out put a bit of thought into applying for the Celtic manager’s job. You could only be better!

February 22, 2021 8:02 am

Good morning McCaff,
are you having’ a laff
sayin’ that I should have walked?
I’ve a nice easy number
This club will go under
Before MY final card gets clocked.

You don’t seem to get it, YOU don’t understand,
I’m a big shot , YOU’re just a minion
So gimme yer dough,
Thats all that I want
Yer cash , and not your opinion.

YOU want the league,
YOU want the glory
But that’s not for me , nor big Peter
Can’t spend cash on coaches and players
When his driveway needs a new heater

Peter will leave soon,
a new man arrives
You’re thinking that will change things?
Don’t build up your hopes,
For he’s just a new puppet
And I’ll still be pulling the strings.

I know nothing about NFLs finances but I’d hazard a guess that he ain’t skint by any means, so if he’s refusing to budge for the sake of some filthy lucre, it can only damage his legacy.
The board is frit to take the decision. The directors are treating us like stupid nodding dolls. And we laughed at the zombies when we saw ever so clearly how they were being shafted? We are being treated with contempt by both Lennon and the board.
Ffs, Lenny, GO!!

February 22, 2021 8:09 am

Neil’s interviews are becoming bizarre to say the least.
Last night was embarrassing. Not so much his analysis of last nights match, but when questioned on why we couldn’t defend set pieces, he had no answers.
Not only is he continuing to destroy his status at the Celtic, I’d suggest week on week he’s destroying any chance of finding a position at any club of stature.

Bobby, Mahe, There appears to be an admin problem. New posts are not appearing where they should at the top of the comments section. There is a symbol at the top of McCaff’s Open Letter post ‘sticky comment thread’.

February 22, 2021 8:25 am

You’re right Jim. Hadn’t noticed that!

February 22, 2021 8:27 am

Morning Twisty, Do you think we will hear of any resignations today? Ha Ha! 🙂

February 22, 2021 8:27 am

Things you didn’t think possible as the season began:

The Final Ignominy awaits.
Huns doing a celebratory Huddle on Sunday 21st March at Celtic Park.

Or perhaps they will already have won the League as we choke against Aberdeen and Dundee Utd.
And we welcome them onto the pitch with a Guard of “Honour”
The fact that They have trickier games v better organised opponents in Livi and St M before playing us , tells us all we need to know about the credibility of our Football Department.

Was in my mums yesterday.

She’s renowned amongst the family for buying things that she will NEVER ever use. Bicycle repair kits, shelves for a greenhouse ( she’s not got a bike or a greenhouse).

Anyway I went in yesterday.

Sitting chatting.

“ Oh J. I found a trumpet”

Eh??? Where about?

“ in my box”

What box??

“My decoupage box. I was thinking that would do on Jim the Tim’s Easter card?”

Ah. Ok.

Honestly mum, any card will be fine.

“ but a trumpet hasn’t really got anything to do with Easter?”

As I say mum, any card will be fine 😁

February 22, 2021 8:33 am

Twisty, a trumpet would be brilliant! Although as you say, anything would be good! Hope she is well as can be!

February 22, 2021 8:35 am

Then I made her day by getting the one answer she hadn’t got on the crossword. She said she’d been at it for ages.

Step in super Twisty- quick glance

“ it’s Apartheid”😁😁

I used to hate anyone getting the last answer in the crossword if I’d been at it for ages 😂

Packy I was at the ICT game on the Saturday, it was abandoned because of some loose cladding on the Lisbon Lion’s stand. I got puggled!
Couldn’t attend the rearranged mid week fixture when there was all the stramash in the changing room at half time. The rest as they say…….

February 22, 2021 8:54 am

Friesdorfer, Laxalt & Brown to blame for the goal. Yes.

February 22, 2021 8:54 am

Are you one of those ‘thieves and thugs’?
You just leave the finances tae me
Now go and walk yer dugs.

Agreed. Puts his message across perfectly. Doesn’t pull his punches but refrains from the kind of abuse the tosser and his chums deserve

Bobby, Let’s not forget that the club did not terminate Mowbray’s contract. They put him and his management team on gardening leave on full wages and Lennon took over his first team manager role till he got the gig on a permanent basis during the close season. Mowbray was still being paid by the club up until the point he was appointed Middlesboro’s manager later in the year. That option is still open to the club right now for Lennon though I have also read somewhere else on interweb, his contract includes a £1.4m. bonus if he wins the title this season and he would be entitled to receive this if he is sacked prior to it being mathematically impossible for Celtic to retain the title. We will know how true this is if he gets sacked when the blue half of the Old Firm brand win their 55th. title.

February 22, 2021 9:03 am

I did that with McCAFF’s letter to pull it to the top of the page. It shouldn’t be causing admin problems, and isn’t at my end.

I’ll mail MAHE and ask him to “unstick” it when he wakens up though.

February 22, 2021 9:06 am

Thanks Bobby, I just wouldn’t like posters to think their posts are somehow less important.

February 22, 2021 9:06 am

Yes,I’ve heard similar rumours and similar sums mentioned. As I said earlier, wrangling over a sum like this is typical Lawwell behaviour. I don’t remember such reticence when it came to paying himself double that and more as a bonus two years ago.

Just looked back at last night’s comments. I would like to apologise for my bout of melancholy re me auld man, emotion got the better of me. Head now clear, but still ragin’
On the upside Junior didn’t ask about the game, he was too busy shooting up aliens on an alternative universe…..wonder if he bumped into NL?

February 22, 2021 9:34 am

No need for apologies Andy Pandy 2! 🙂

February 22, 2021 9:38 am

At this point the club don’t give Two F’s what the fans think as they’ve already got their money.
Therefor we are just bumping our gums.
In reality are we just being too self important as the recipients of such are tone deaf to supporters/customers?
