Ross County 1 – 0 Celtic
Ross County recorded their third home victory of the season last night against the reigning champions. That’s right-last weekend in February, only their third home victory, which explains why they went into the match holding up the rest of the table. That we lost, and deservedly so,explains why we won’t be getting our hands on a tenth successive title.
An absolutely awful performance, with the best two chances falling to Ryan Christie. The Ryan Christie who thinks he is a superstar would have put them away with ease. The one that plays for us made an arse of them. Same way that we yet again made an arse of defending every ball into our box,and the one that they scored from goes a long way to explaining why that is the case.
We have some big tall lads in our team, but none of them got anywhere near a ball whipped into the six-yard box. Our keeper decided that he would leave it to his defenders to clear, despite his obvious responsibilities to command that area and attack the ball himself. He stood motionless on the line as the ball flashed past him.
It isn’t Scott Bain’s fault that we didn’t score last night, but it is certainly down to him that we went a goal behind. And we rarely looked like getting it back either. It was almost a relief when the whistle went. An absolutely diabolical performance.
There are many amongst the support who didn’t want Neil Lennon anywhere near the job when it became available less than two years ago. I thought he was probably the man for the interim period,to get us over the line and crown a Rebel Treble. I was disgusted when he was given the job full time in the scariest shower scene since Psycho. I think that most of the fans at that stage would have preferred someone else.
Some were screaming for his head after the Ferencvaros shambles, and I thought he should have gone after we got hammered by the huns at home in October. Still more joined the groundswell against him with our Europa League “performances” but the last straw surely had to be the defeat at home to Ross County which saw us turfed out of The League Cup. There were still some left in his fan club at New Year, but the Dubai Debacle and a second defeat to the huns did for them. Well, nearly all of them. There were still some flat-earthers out there…
The only people left in the whole of Scotland who think that Lennon should be in charge of us next season are Lennon himself and the people who make the decisions. In fact,it looked like the players wanted to get rid of him as soon as possible,so bad was their performance last night!
Neil Lennon has long pased the stage where he as any claim to the position of Celtic manager. The board must do the right thing, something long overdue, and relieve him of his duties. They can put Mickey Mouse in charge for the rest of the season for all I care. At least he won’t come out after a performance like that and tell us all that we played really well.
