The Sound Of Silence

When I first heard the recent cover version of The Sound Of Silence,I was very very impressed. I’m not so impressed by The Sound Of Silence from our club on so many matters, and all of them important. The cover version in question was by The Disturbed, which could well describe my feelings about the club’s continuing failure to at the very least communicate with the fans. There are so many things which need sorting that I can appreciate the difficulty in prioritising, but there is no good reason for such failure in our approach to PR and to keeping the fans informed.

Hopefully such failure will be consigned to the past, ushered out the door along with Lawwell and hopefully a few others. DMcK has a strong background in PR,and while I don’t think it is appropriate for him to shoulder those duties himself,he will be acutely aware of  their necessity and able to identify the correct candidate(s) to improve things. According to JP,the SLO at the club,Dom isn’t in charge, merely working in a shadow capacity as he learns the details of the role.

I reckon that is highly patronising. It’s not like he doesn’t know how to run a bloody big sporting organisation,is it? Give him the keys and Lawwell’s phone number in case he gets stuck or summat. Bloody hell,we’ve fannied around for long enough as it is.

Thanks to our capitulation against the huns ten days ago,we haven’t had a game since our trip to Aberdeen a week ago. Not our best performance, either of those, and we will really have to improve dramatically on Sunday when we return to the Bigotdome. This is one Fenian c..t who’ll be having an orgasm if we win,but I doubt any of the hun staff will bother shouting their opinions into a microphone,as shamefully/shamelessly happened at the weekend. Barely a word about this from the journos who can hear a stray cough during a respectful silence, nor from the SFA who banned Neil Lennon for much less against St Mirren.

Funny that, innit? Meanwhile,I suppose their Covid Six or whatever it is will be watching from the stands and wishing they had worn their Hallowe’en masks at the do that night. Let’s hope we rip Tavpen a new one as I don’t think he is anywhere near full fitness. Get Mo fired up and running at him,CalMac drifting just inside. And Eddy needs some goals against them, even if my I Wanna t-shirt has long been binned now.

I want their spurious Invincibles tag binned alongside it,and Sunday would be just the time to do it,in my opinion. Any time they lose is a cause for celebration in my opinion, but this will be particularly sweet!

Get that done, get the pedal to the metal on the search for our new manager. Allegedly the deal for Howe is agreed in principle, but the final outcome hinges on the availability of his preferred backroom staff. I think too it might hinge on the cost of prising them away from their current employers! We can hardly complain, given that we got £9m for Rodgers and his support team little over two years ago and probably saved pretty much that again with their replacements since. I’ve pointed out before that the cost to the club of Lawwell’s Lottery Picks ran to around £10m a season in wasted fees and wages, and a proper football structure of a respected manager and a Director of Football-guys who know their stuff and who also trust each other-would prevent that.

Let the cost of employing the absolute best available, guys who will virtually guarantee our return to the summit,be covered by the savings from that waste alone. The improvement we should also see on the park, and especially in our European ventures need only be a bonus-but a very important one when it comes to our accounts and our self esteem. Success should pay for itself if properly planned-this is not a time for the biscuit tin.

Only when we have a new manager in place can we make a start on the huge number of replacements needed to both our squad and to our first team. Only when we have the Director of Football in situ can we make a start on the structural changes required to our entire footballing operation and structure, from the coaching and scouting to the medical science and technical data analysis. Every day that passes makes the jobs of everyone involved more difficult and takes us closer to a season of treading water at best.

The money is there to do these things properly,we have wasted two years already-and see where that has got us. Every extra day added to that is simply not good enough.

I wonder if PL is playing hard ball with Howe, about who he can and can’t bring to the club, due to BR walking away with most of the backroom staff, wouldn’t surprise me in the least, and I hate to say it, however I think it may be a sensible move if so.

We wont hear a peep about the fenian shouts to the St J player as the SMS are cowardly and don’t want to fall foul of Sevco even though they are apparently locked out of the bigotdome for now.

Agreed Bobby let’s turn them over and knock this partial invincible nonsense on the head, surely we can’t be any worse this season.

Morning all,

Great article Bobby and everything you said sums up the situation at Celtic.

However, I have exclusive footage of a recent Celtic Board Meeting which you might find interesting !!!

April 28, 2021 8:00 am

There is too much inaction at Celtic Park for them not to have an agreement in place with a new manager. If they were still interviewing someone would have spilled the beans , I don’t know why no announcement, I know we are not very efficient or well organized but surely they wouldn’t stop interviewing just because they didn’t get their first choice

April 28, 2021 8:07 am

Enjoyed the music last night especially the Canadians, I was surprised

If true. I like that Eddie Howe is ensuring that he gets the backroom team that he wants and not having it imposed on him like the last manager had. It shows he has principles and a pair.

A thing of beauty
April 28, 2021 11:03 am

St Tams,
I agree. If reports are true and that’s a big if I’m glad Howe is calling the shots and not Peter Lawwell. He is moving a fair distance from home and needs his support network round about him. If Kennedy and Strachan are not part of that team they can have no complaints.

A RIFC player/employee shouting sectarian abuse? Pretty inaudible/inconclusive in my opinion.
But inaudible/inconclusive accusations of Morelos being racially abused by a fan at Celtic Park made the front pages after RIFC flagged it up!

Had a quick look at the other site this am.

P67 points out the top 10 clubs in England have non-English managers, while almost all of the teams in the lower half have English managers. And while top English teams are hiring foreign managers, how many top foreign teams are hiring English managers? So, foreign manager, good, English manager, bad? So why is Celtic allegedly looking at the only unemployed English manager? Or am I being too simplistic?

442 reporting that Spurs are interested in Soro. Given that Spurs are managerless, I would question this. I hope not, as I rate him. But he’s another whose career we seem to be messing up, so could understand if he wanted to go.

The Gombeen Man
April 28, 2021 1:43 pm

Yes but two Managers/Coaches in the top five of the EPL are Brendan Rodgers and David Moyes.

Two guys Pedro discarded.

The problem is our lack of professionalism.

The DoF should be in first and involved in the selection of the coach and his team.

What’s going on with Harkin from Man City. He’s been linked as the guy that brought us Denayer,
John Guidetti etc…

The concern is that the new CEO (with his links to the SRU & our dealings with them) and Fergal Harkin are Pedro’s picks.
We know where that leads…

I hope not.

CQN spin-doctoring once more.

April 28, 2021 1:44 pm

I have posted a few times that the coaching in the EPL is not great and despite the leagues huge financial advantage their European success has been relatively sparse.
There is a lot of coaches talking systems but little evidence of them being capable of implementing them.
Tuchel since joining Chelsea has shown how big a difference a coach who can instill systems properly can make to a loose collection of players.
When even good EPL teams like Leicester get easily beaten at home by a well coached European team then you realize how the quality of opposition coaching in a league can impact.
Was talking to an Aberdeen supporting friend about the recent Celtic v Dons 1-1 draw and remarked that it was a difficult game to discern any shape or tactics from either team?
He agreed and it set me thinking that it would be difficult for any non old firm team to establish a playing style when in the 8 games against Celtic and The Rangers they abandon any semblance of a style and just stick 11 men behind the ball.
For teams like Liverpool and Man city they often face such and that gives them way to much possession.
Tuchel proved pressing and getting ball forward early exposes City’s major weaknesses .
Liverpool also have suffered when pressed.
The European coaches now all seem to use positional awareness and fast transition.
Too many EPL teams still trying to emulate the dated possession system without understanding or purpose.
As for Howe i don’t know enough about but i’m sure he will be an improvement on the clueless Kennedy and Lennon.

1st May,could be a finishing point for Howe to end gardening leave, collect any bonuses due ,without any penalties. If the ST renewals are from Monday, a statement of intent, and some kind of plan must be alongside, at the present time, gone are the days where season tickets sell themselves.

Thanks for the article.

I’ve a feeling that Dom might be ‘speechless’ at what he’s seen since last week.

No doubt it took a while to sign all those NDA’s too.

This brief film by Tifo Sport might explain why they are interested in Howe. Apart from tactics and coaching, it’s his ability to develop underperforming players and guys from lower leagues (Moneyball).

April 28, 2021 2:36 pm

Is Howe really the height of our ambitions? I for one am totally unimpressed by his CV. Am I alone in believing we could and should be aiming higher? And I’m not talking of the superstar managers. I am worried that Howe ticks all the boxes for continuing the disastrous buy cheap hope to sell high policies of PL – good at developing players from lower leagues🙄 – translated into Celtic speak – expect more projects.
We do realise that next season will be pivotal in deciding who dominates Scottish football for the foreseeable future – don’t we? Get it wrong and you can forget about big European nights for a few seasons. Speaking of which few weeks to the CL qualifiers and we don’t even know if we’ll any decent players left to form a squad capable of competing let alone someone to coach them. The whole thing is a fecking farce – the new manager should have been in place soon after Lenny was canned. The rest is BS- waiting for his gardening leave to end, not wanting to be tainted with this season, wanting a DOF of his choosing – all utter crap. If Howe is really the best we can attract to a club of our standing and potential then he should have been given an ultimatum – take it or leave it.
If money was an issue, then they should have used some of the £9 mill received for Brendan to sort that out.

Fannying about – it’s the Celtic way

Agree completely- utter bullshit on this selection process.

Of course, we don’t know if Howe is the guy, the club may still spring a pleasant surprise…

Meantime, the fascination with managers ( and players) from English leagues as the only ‘viable’ options … as others have already said… defies logic.

We have the Worldwide marketplace to consider candidates.

Look at the CV – interrogate the achievements and have the gaps explained. Select the best available!

Despite everything a small part of me hopes we will commence a brave, dynamic strategy.

So,still nothing about the sectarian abuse at the bigotdome on Sunday, not even about the club failing to control their officials?

I mean,I know it might be difficult to prove beyond all reasonable doubt, but the SFA works on balance of probability,as we know. And barely a mention either in the media, which I suppose means that they are too tight to pay a tenner to Premier Sports to watch their favourite team.

i could get paranoid,you know…

April 28, 2021 7:50 pm

Spot on with the leader. It’s not just within football that the sound of silence is emanating, over the ‘Fenian c**t” remark at Ibrox.

Where are the cops in all this? All it takes is a complaint from one member of the public, and they would be forced to take immediate action…i.e. the complainant would be lifted in a dawn raid.

Where are the loudmouth politicians in all this?

Where is SRTRC?

Where are those bastards ‘Nil By Mouth’?

The SFA?

All so depressing and utterly predictable. Feck ’em all. Two faced bastards.

Perhaps we should not rush to judgement here. Along with all other Celts, I’m assuming that the perp was a Hun(player or otherwise).

Given the rampant bigotry within the refereeing fraternity, we cannot rule out the possibility that a match official was responsible. Was Wee Dougie Ross running the line? You can just imagine the little tosser:

Stranger things have happened.

Hail Hail.
