The Sound Of Silence
When I first heard the recent cover version of The Sound Of Silence,I was very very impressed. I’m not so impressed by The Sound Of Silence from our club on so many matters, and all of them important. The cover version in question was by The Disturbed, which could well describe my feelings about the club’s continuing failure to at the very least communicate with the fans. There are so many things which need sorting that I can appreciate the difficulty in prioritising, but there is no good reason for such failure in our approach to PR and to keeping the fans informed.
Hopefully such failure will be consigned to the past, ushered out the door along with Lawwell and hopefully a few others. DMcK has a strong background in PR,and while I don’t think it is appropriate for him to shoulder those duties himself,he will be acutely aware of their necessity and able to identify the correct candidate(s) to improve things. According to JP,the SLO at the club,Dom isn’t in charge, merely working in a shadow capacity as he learns the details of the role.
I reckon that is highly patronising. It’s not like he doesn’t know how to run a bloody big sporting organisation,is it? Give him the keys and Lawwell’s phone number in case he gets stuck or summat. Bloody hell,we’ve fannied around for long enough as it is.
Thanks to our capitulation against the huns ten days ago,we haven’t had a game since our trip to Aberdeen a week ago. Not our best performance, either of those, and we will really have to improve dramatically on Sunday when we return to the Bigotdome. This is one Fenian c..t who’ll be having an orgasm if we win,but I doubt any of the hun staff will bother shouting their opinions into a microphone,as shamefully/shamelessly happened at the weekend. Barely a word about this from the journos who can hear a stray cough during a respectful silence, nor from the SFA who banned Neil Lennon for much less against St Mirren.
Funny that, innit? Meanwhile,I suppose their Covid Six or whatever it is will be watching from the stands and wishing they had worn their Hallowe’en masks at the do that night. Let’s hope we rip Tavpen a new one as I don’t think he is anywhere near full fitness. Get Mo fired up and running at him,CalMac drifting just inside. And Eddy needs some goals against them, even if my I Wanna t-shirt has long been binned now.
I want their spurious Invincibles tag binned alongside it,and Sunday would be just the time to do it,in my opinion. Any time they lose is a cause for celebration in my opinion, but this will be particularly sweet!
Get that done, get the pedal to the metal on the search for our new manager. Allegedly the deal for Howe is agreed in principle, but the final outcome hinges on the availability of his preferred backroom staff. I think too it might hinge on the cost of prising them away from their current employers! We can hardly complain, given that we got £9m for Rodgers and his support team little over two years ago and probably saved pretty much that again with their replacements since. I’ve pointed out before that the cost to the club of Lawwell’s Lottery Picks ran to around £10m a season in wasted fees and wages, and a proper football structure of a respected manager and a Director of Football-guys who know their stuff and who also trust each other-would prevent that.
Let the cost of employing the absolute best available, guys who will virtually guarantee our return to the summit,be covered by the savings from that waste alone. The improvement we should also see on the park, and especially in our European ventures need only be a bonus-but a very important one when it comes to our accounts and our self esteem. Success should pay for itself if properly planned-this is not a time for the biscuit tin.
Only when we have a new manager in place can we make a start on the huge number of replacements needed to both our squad and to our first team. Only when we have the Director of Football in situ can we make a start on the structural changes required to our entire footballing operation and structure, from the coaching and scouting to the medical science and technical data analysis. Every day that passes makes the jobs of everyone involved more difficult and takes us closer to a season of treading water at best.
The money is there to do these things properly,we have wasted two years already-and see where that has got us. Every extra day added to that is simply not good enough.
