I think this might be my favourite song of all time…

always thought it was an old spiritual…. it has that timeless feel to it…. so, I was shocked to find out that Curtis (a true genius!!!!!) had written it in 1965!

Puff puff

Dylan played that .

Puff, I hope your well mate and your right, those from the north of the city are made of stern stuff, know what I mean McCaff. lol

ASWGL,
the Brothers bar used to be one of my haunts when I fancied a beer back in the day. A pub like no other. I’ve also drank in the other fine establishments up there such as the Balmore Bar, the Ironsmith right along to the Rock Bar when it was going. Some mental nights in all of the aforementioned.

Its Mothers Day tomorrow (at least it is here) …. so, this one is for all the mums….Thula Mama

Noel, i remember The Rock, The Craighall, The Widdows and the Possil Bar, had a few pints in them too, we may have crossed paths

Noel Skytrot

ASGWL, do you remember the Irish bar called Casey’s Drum which was opened for a wee while on Craighall Rd?

ASWGL

Noel no don’t remember that, i ran about with a few lads from Port Dundas and was at school with a lot of guys from Possil and Milton in St Augustines, later on a lot of them worked in Brownlees sawmill in Port Dundas, now Jewsons

Noel Skytrot

ASWGL, you’ll definitely know my family if you ran about with people from Port Dundas. I actually ahem..attended St Augustine’s.

ASWGL

You’ll know mine too one of my cousins worked in The Brothers on the door

puff puff

I was registered at St Augustins but did not attend to frequently.

Noel Skytrot

ASGWL, Casey’s never lasted that long as I believe a certain woman from our neck of the woods of a Republican persuasion was holding band practice inside it, but I suspect there were other reasons for it closing. I’m sure I will know your relative.

Puff, were you doggin it?

ASWGL

Puff *snap* I don’t think many did, it was just that kind of school, forced teaching.

Frank McDougall was at St.A when i was there, i hated the P.E teacher TinMan

Noel Skytrot

ASWGL, you got it in a nutshell, the teachers were bullying bastards.

puff puff

It was a step down from St Ambrose ..the real. Milton School …brilliant football team anaw.

puff puff

Not doggin it like McCaff like .

ASWGL

One of the guys in our class got drunk one day and gave the P.E teacher a kicking, lol

puff puff

Sounds formula

Here’s a ‘feel good’ song!

ASWGL, some of the rougher elements of my family had threatened two of the teachers in that school, funnily enough, they were PE teachers. The PE teacher from the brilliant Ken Loach movie, Kes, reminds me of the PE teachers there at the time.

ASWGL

Harry Hood, who played for Celtic, Scotland and Rangers in the 70s, put ยฃ750,000 into renovating the Angels Hotel. Whilst developments are not complete, the restaurant and lounge areas are due to open on 6 April.

I recently saw the documentary about LR on Netflix (I think it was on Netfli) …. I hadn’t fully appreciated how big a part she played in pushing women forward in the music business….

have you heard the original of that song? written by Mike Nesmith of the Monkees… very different, but I like it …

Gordon64

Gentle on my mind – There was a discussion on the best version and ill throw in Dinos https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bO5yIk2Mlzw ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Picking one Beatles song as the best is like picking your favourite kid….for me, its impossible…

there are about 50 Beatles songs that, when I hear them, I think, ‘yeah…best Beatles song’… then I hear another one, and think, ‘no… this is definitely the best Beatles song’… until I hear another one…

although the opening to Ticket to Ride is my favourite song opening ever … I dont know what it is about the sound (I dont read music, so it is just a gut feel thing)…. but it just edges out Love Will. Tear Us Apart.

and, again, the opening guitar riff on I Feel Fine is mind blowing….
