BP those songs remind me of drunken times in the welcome inn on London road that had the best juke box ever, the place would be belting out rebs then traditional then rebs👍

jimthetim53

Garry, if you’re lurking, Jimmy White just lost his Senior’s Title to David Lilley.

D R M

Can’t believe you don’t have a curry house where you live. There was an absolute stoatir in Ardrossan when I lived there. The Sangeet. Their special chilli lamb was dynamite!

Next time you are heading back home, grab something from there-if it is still open-and heat it up or put it in the freezer when you get home.

Damn, put me in the mood for one now…

I assume you mean the original Welcome Inn-the wee pub-before it turned intae a bistro. Never liked the new Welcome. Always enjoyed the craic wae Fank and Mary. Very genial mein-hosts.

As for the juke box…FFS, It’s the only place I’ve ever known, where you could be singing ‘Hot Legs’ one minute, and ‘Roll Of Honour’ in the next breath. On the negative side, the jukebox also catered for Daniel O’Donnell fans. Hey ho, that’s life.

Hail Hail.

BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS

Seems it might be called The Jaipur now. I’ll ask ATHINGOFBEAUTY about it.

You just brought back some fantastic non-memories of the late 80s, early 90s. The Welcome Inn. What a boozer. Never was the same when it became a bigger pub though.

Frank and Mary. Brilliant people and very genial mein-hosts.

As for the jukebox. FFS. It’s the only place that I have ever been, that you could be bopping around to ‘Hot Legs’ one minute, and belting out ‘Roll Of Honour’ in the next breath.

On the negative side, the place attracted a few Daniel O’Donnell fans…

Hail Hail.

Bobby there is a small takeaway but tried it once and chicken pakora had no chicken in it and the rest was disappointing and prefer sit in anyway. We used to go to one in saltcoats for lunch motherland spice then asda. Used to go to the Jaipur it was very good but think it closed? salivating now 😬.

Magua yes the old welcome inn with Frank and Mary it was a great pub. Watched the Seville final in there and before the game one of my mates collapsed and I managed to catch him before he hit the stone floor, ashamed to say we put him in a taxi and watched the game he found out later he was diabetic.

Did ye ever venture into the Welcome when it was the wee boozer, wae the alcove round the back? Many a hazy December was spent in there, as I worked nearby. Great days, even though the Celts were shoite…and then some.

Hail Hail.

From what I can see,the Jaipur is in the same premises as the Sangeet was. Reviews are tremendous, but the menu is much changed. I’m home in two weeks for a flying visit so will try to talk my parents into a takeaway.

For old times sake, you understand. They used to snaffle most of my carryout on a Thursday night. Until I got a taste for their Special Chilli. That kinda killed their appetite, along with most of their taste buds!

True-the waiter advised me it was very hot.

“How hot?”,I asked.

“Well, put it this way,I wouldn’t eat it again!!!”

D R M

Magua used to spend many a Saturday before and after games in there and sometimes on a Monday afternoon after a weekend bender. Fell backwards off one of the high stools at the bar, thought it had a back on it, the Saturday we thought Paul mcstay was leaving, my turn to be out in a taxi. One Monday afternoon an old boy thought my works tie had red hands on it and was going mental until the wee barman, can’t remember his name, calmed him down by explaining i was a regular and it was red dots, bought him a hawf n a hawf and all was fine.

Bobby that’s very kind of you to go to the restaurant and force yourself to eat the special chilli for my benefit I really appreciate it 😄, as part of your research can you ask if they still do lunches.

BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS

Lunchtime special 12-2,Mon-Sat.

Doesn’t say what it is though!

Pound to a penny the barman was wee George. A sound man, who could control the whole bar with humour…but with other methods if required.

Hail Hail.

D R M

Bobby it wasn’t a big choice but the chicken tikka was excellent so I used to get that with mixed pakora and the wife is not a big eater so I would have half of what she ordered.

Magua it was george who was a cracking wee guy but seen him chucking out people twice his height. They never built anything on the site after it was demolished did they?

Puff puff

Hehehe some good stories on here today .

BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS

I’ll mail him and ask him to post tomorrow.

31003

Bobby
Don’t know if you’ve looked in but CQN has 14 pages of politics. Some dude pleaded with Paul67 to cut it out. Who can blame him? What a turn off. Remit used to be a good Celtic site?
What was the phrase? Not lazy journalism?

Aye….naw bother

BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS

31003

CQN is really our Alma Mater, and we have all met some tremendous friends because of it. For that reason,I find it difficult to criticise it-but then, there IS a reason why MAHE and I set this site up. Having said that,we do make it plain that criticism of it isn’t our thing.

That’s not to say that you just did that-you made an observation. I rarely read the site now-it runs so far behind the timeline that I’ll maybe flick through a few days at a time. It pains me to say that it has turned into a point-scoring free for all. And if anyone thinks I take pleasure in that, they should remember the reasons why so many of us were on it in the past.

It’s like I said a few hours ago about the debate on here over the question of a boycott. There are diametrically opposed views and everything in between. But the debate tends to be civil, and understanding of the opinions of others. The realisation that you are unlikely to change anyone’s mind on anything may make the whole thing sound futile, but we can drip feed our thoughts.

Much more pleasant, readable, and probably effective than the constant bludgeoning that just makes the reader double down on their own original opinions,IMO. And frankly much more enjoyable than politics.

31003

Bobby

I’d never ask you to criticise the site. It was just my observation. I know peton here have differences of opinion, but it’s about Celtic and all associated with it. I hate politics, just because all politicians are liars and in it for themselves. I come to this site to talk football, particularly Celtic. If I ever want to talk politics……I’ll kill myself

31003

Peton…….people

Puff puff

Sorry Bobby just dozed off for a bit …
Doing better a little every day .

BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS

31003

Oh,I know that. But I suppose we have to let it go. Shame, really.

Aye,I think we have maybe got a decent balance here between football, music, rank stupidity and daft boayishness.

Works for me!

BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS

PUFFPUFF

Dozing off at teatime? Getting old, mucker!

As long as you’re on the mend, that’s the important thing. None of us gets any younger.

Puff puff

Yes … my son and his girlfriend showed up with a huge amount of food and a lovely cheese cake to celebrate mother’s day …so beer and a glass of wine and I’m dozing…

Puff puff

Hope your doing well …sounds like the uk is on its way back from covid.

BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS

PUFFPUFF

Ah,that’s different. Good wee feed and some vino, plus excellent company so quite entitled to put your feet up.

Glad you had a good day with your family, mate. Two weeks,I’ll be doing the same.

Puff puff

You heading home for a vacation?

BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS

PUFFPUFF

Re covid, looking good. Not counting chickens though. The economy took a tanking, and with Brexit on top,I’m not sure the recovery will be as strong as predicted. People may well spend what they were unable to spend during lockdown, but after that we will be in a reduced economy again.

Strange place when housing costs are out of control and wages have been in lockdown for a decade. But I don’t think that the UK is much different from elsewhere in that respect. Keep printing the money,I suppose…
