Excuses in early
The week started very well with the Tims rubbing hands, two sixes in a row, playing slick, and having the momentum despite the derby being away in front of zero Tims.
Oh, and a new Croatian International right back brought in who just like Furuhashi is actually up to gamespeed, available right here right now, and can find the net.
Plus the versatile Scales, and then the small matter of progressing into the Europa League group stages which halves the financial rewards across the city.
Yep, it was certainly the Tims who were looking forward to this fixture the most, for this one game could jettison us out of orbit.
And then came the mind games. Please do not think I’m being flippant of a deadly virus, but ever since it emerged one teams Covid testing gets done independently overseas in a city with some historic allegiance towards that team, eyebrows were raised. Especially when the cases are significantly lower than normal for that sector.
After news the virus has hit that camp just as an energy sapping pan continental trip was about to take place, Covid has now become a footballing smokescreen in my humble opinion. The timing is extremely convenient.
I’ve previously indicated I felt this week could be decisive in the title race, and I will stand by that. There’s a huge amount at stake in this first derby game for should we record a resounding victory a march to the title looks a certainty.
And a resounding victory was very much on the cards. We all know that.
Now there’s an excuse on the table for their manager who may be looking to move down south, therefore won’t want his managerial reputation trashed at this time.
A defeat here with ‘a Covid decimated squad’ offers him an out.
I once heard a football manager state of you offer players an excuse and they will take it.
Whether we were understrength or poor ref, offside or disallowed goal, there’s very few times the collective take the blame, and that collective now have their out.
A confident team and manager need no excuses, and never look for them. They simply go about their business, and express a confident aura.
This is the opposite, sewing confusion.
It’s self serving and smacks of fear, and a far cry from this time last year when that dugout correctly believed they had our then managers number.
Where’s that confidence? With another season of working on their shape and fine tuning their Champions, where’s the bravado?
They win and all of a sudden ‘look what we did with a Covid hit squad, we are still fantastic and Champions elect’ and a draw or loss shall be met with Covid being prominently mentioned post match.
They are preemptively trying to take the gloss off any Celtic result and it’s that simple. The rags will roll with the virus angle also, job done.
I’ve no doubt Ange and the Bhoys have cottoned onto their charade, and could use it as a motivating tool if it’s felt necessary, but I doubt it is. Nearly every Tim will ignore the steady stream of deflection, and begin looking forward to a famous march towards the title. It’s my belief should the above look likely their manager will jump ship, giving that entire club and support a huge excuse for being unable to halt Ange’s juggernaut.
A juggernaut I predict shall walk away with three points on Sunday by hook or by crook. I don’t think for one second they or the whistler shall allow us to actually play football, but rather shall attempt to turn the game into a battle, set up defensively giving away very little shape and using the referee to their advantage.
While some players like Tam, Ryan, maybe Liel may not be best suited for battle, we’ve quite a few that won’t shirk and will stand their ground if needed.
Happily the back five fall into that category, and we do have steely midfielders to draft in for that type of occasion.
It’s a huge conundrum for our Greek Australian, who loves to stick with his style of play but having just witnessed his preferred trio be completely dominated, he must have some doubts if this game suits them.
On the one hand, win with his style of play and preferred eleven he’s halfway to Godlike status,,on the other he risks some accusations of naivety should those three get overrun twice in two games.
It’s Ange’s call and it’s why he gets the big bucks, and I certainly don’t envy him on this one.
It’s tough, but I would start either Soro or McCarthy, whoever is showing up best in training I suppose.
Anthony Ralston has fresh competition for that berth yes, but he will realize a goal at Ibrox cements his cult hero status and probably keeps him the jersey, therefore I’m expecting our Bhoy to storm forward with intent (on causing heart attacks) a lot, for better or worse.
Leaving Nir Bitton at home would be the first tactical masterstroke of the day.
Let’s hope it’s not the only one.
Enjoy the game and your weekend.
Come On You Bhoys In Green !!!
Mahe.
H.H.
I said the exact same thing to my brother the other day, About thems getting their excuses in early.
Covid my jacksy more like verbal diarrhea.
Woke up just after 4am and cannot get back to sleep, pre match nerves a bliddy day early, i have a funny feeling we will skelp them on sunday.JG.
Hehehe. Junglegerry
Hearing the only “victim” may be their goalie – don’t see covid being an excuse if they lose. Expecting tight game and a resultant draw – which would be a great result considering where we’ve been, imo.
We don’t care what the animals say,
What the hell do we care?
For we only know that there’s gonna be a show
And the Glasgow Celtic will be there
Good morning, friends.
I remain confident of a victory tomorrow regardless of the issues currently affecting Triggers Broom FC. Play our own game and let them worry about how to stop us, not the other way around.
For anyone going to today’s Hoot, have a great day whilst staying safe. The recent huge upsurge in cases means that I’m giving today a miss, unfortunately. Or maybe that should be ‘fortunately’ for those who ARE going along π
I’d play Soro and McCarthy in front of the defence. They will try to bully us in midfield. Yes we’ll lose Rogic’s creativity but he’s never going to be creative anyway with Arfield’s stud marks down his heels. Kick back first against this mob. Then they can moan about our roughhouse tactics. I don’t GAF.
They were missing three first teamers only on Thursday evening- McGregor, Tavpen and Kent.
The goalkeeper is the only position where they are subsequently weaker. Kent has been poor for them for weeks and is hardly a loss, and the new Wunderkid Patterson ( 5m wonβt buy him!) is a more than adequate replacement for the nervous Captain.
They were piss poor against a ten man Alaskert team of limited triers.
I am more concerned about how we react after an energy sapping experience, particularly with regard to the knocks to some of our Bhoys.
Bring it on – without fear or favour.
It’s today!!!!!!
++++++
Been up in Glasgow yesterday with GARRY,on a scouting trip for the Hootenanny on Saturday.
Just as well that we did, places are having difficulty getting back up to speed regards staff and stock, plus there are shortages in supply of beer and gas.
Upshot is that The Blane Valley are cool with around a dozen or so more than usual around lunchtime and McChuills are confident they can cope with around fifty or so in the afternoon.
Not that theyβll be counting,of course!
Since I wonβt be mailing people as I did in the past,I think their worst case might be optimistic!
Hope one and all can make it. Usual rules apply-just have fun!!!
PS-my Dad and GER57 will be in the BV from around 130-200,probably till about 3pm. I’ll probably go straight to McChuills once I drop off the overnight stuff at the hotel.
Sorry you won’t make it today, Jobo. We’ll have a chance to meet up at CP soon.
JOBO
Sad to hear of your decision, but won’t criticise it for obvious reasons. Hopefully we will all enjoy the day without any mishaps.
Thanks Bobby. It’s a personal decision that everyone is now having to make and I’m certainly not criticising or judging anyone who goes along for what I’m sure will be a great day. I honestly am gutted to be missing it but yesterday’s 6,800-odd new cases in Scotland just gave me a wee fright!
In other news, I’m about to head off for my latest ParkRun. And there’s the thing – there’ll be around 350 folk running a 5K. But I’m likely to be only in close proximity to about 10 of them, for about 25 minutes, and in wide open spaces.
Social decisions used to be much easier!
Even the suspicion that Sevco could have a sweetheart testing lab in the midst of a pandemic is monstrous. Trying to gain an advantage whilst folk are getting seriously ill or dying. Truly disgusting.
McChuills have extended their outdoor seating area. With the sun shining in Glasgow today. I will be hoping to claim an outdoor seat. For safety reasons. Hope to see a few of you later.
Morning all,
Wonβt make the hoot today but hope everyone attending has a great time and stays safe.
HH ππ
Just read an article on the FB page of “Anthony Stokes & Gary Hooper” about Joe Hart. I was more than dubious about him coming to Celtic, but he’s here to apply himself and he comes over as a genuine lad. I’m more than happy to give him some love. We can expect the odd howler but he does make top drawer saves. Anyway, if we’re banging them in at the other end, losing the odd goal is no big deal. I’ll settle for a 3-1 win every game.
Good morning folks,
Apologies for missing the Hoot today, I’ve similar concerns as Jobo Balde 8.21.
No predictions or views from me about the game tomorrow other than I hope our players come out of it relatively unscathed. I hope all of you meeting up later have a lovely time π»π·. Sorry, I should’ve added I hope our fans stay safe too
For anyone going to the hoot, have a great day.
I wish I could be there.
Good morning all from Govanhill. Looking forward to the hoot later. Not so sure about wearing green and white spats with an emerald dinner suit. π€

A Grateful Dead, Dead Head tee shirt would suit you more J. π
Morning all…it’s a huge leap to suggest TRFC have a “sweetheart laboratory” where results can be dismissed, tampered, destroyed, manipulated – whatever term is your preference – but there really can be no other explanation for the outrageous luck they’ve carried during this pandemic. It seems strange that when Official tests are carried out more than a few return positive. My suspicion, and I’ll admit it lends itself too easily to the Conspiracy Theorists category, is that their PR Chief David Graham is so well connected in Norn Irn that it would be so simple to achieve what they have. His missus is the daughter of a Fast Food Franchise billionaire so access to laboratories/testing would be straightforward as would the desire to ensure success for the Brethren on this side of the watter. These feckers have shown in the past that they’ll stop at nothing, absolutely nothing to stymie us!
Anyhoo, The Hoot today? Mibbes aye, mibbes naw! My derby weekend starts today at 1.00pm when we play our biggest rivals. Our last meeting – Under 16 fitba mind – resulted in 8 reds! 7 to them and 1 to us for retaliation when our centre mid was punched. Their two coaches included in the 7 and their goalie got 2 reds!! A big, big game today for our boys.
It also happens to be my Wedding Anniversary today, 29 years, so I might have to spend some time with the missus!
Finally, tomorrow! It’s a tough gig at Ibrox most of the time, tomorrow will be no different. Our relatively young squad will need their wits about them in the cauldron of hate and bigotry. We know we’ve got mistakes in us, as well as uncertainty in a couple of players. I won’t be surprised if some steel is added to the middle but Celtic MUST play on the front foot, nothing else will work tomorrow. That mob don’t like runners or ball-players, we have both at the moment. I’m convinced Ange will want his game on show but with a bit more savvy than we showed in Holland. As the old adage goes only a fool would predict the score for this game…I’ll take Celtic to win 3-1!!
COYBIG!!
Have a real Hoot today folks..
sorry we will miss it, maybe next year!
McCaff
We have been called paranoid for decades, the last of which proved, we weren’t paranoid enough. Fiddling lab results is easy peasy compared to the strokes they’ve already pulled.
Mahe
I’m in the central mid ‘insurance’ camp…and I hear the guys who say ‘let them worry about our game’.
Normally I’d be all for that. Play our own game.
However, they will be allowed to boot us upside down tomorrow – what we saw against AZ, on steroids!
Our flow will be disrupted we will probably be ‘allowed’ to dominate possession, yet see more fouls and bookings given against us. We’ve all see this recently in games where we had 70% possession and 70% of fouls for opposition. We watch sevvies being tackled and awarded a free kick – every time they are challenged- and they don’t always have to hit the deck to gain that decision.
We know this in advance – plan to counter it!
Ca’ canny Ange – when that battle is won …. open it right up and go furrit.
I fully advocate bolstering the midfield tomorrow. Then I think of the times Jinky tore them to bits, leaving four of them on their arses, hands aloft. He scored a few at Ibrox, including a header after he outjumped three of them all 8″ taller. Aye, lots to be said for letting skill beat brawn, but the refs are worse now than in Jinky’s day.
Garry, maybe not the Europe 72 with the union flag on it. π. Mind you, worn it in Derry, Dublin and Fermanagh and any response I got was about the Grateful Dead. Difference between us and the huns.
Could’ve sworn I posted something earlier, anyway to summarise, can’t be there today, work interferes as usual, would love to meet and put faces to names. Hopefully a win tomorrow, no injuries. Enjoy your day, stay safe. HH
Enjoy the hoot today bhoys no point looking at thus site or CQN as you are all out on the pishππππππππππ

You can also quaff some of the Port now that Senga can no longer make it!
Mick, not port. Oh dear. π³
Can Tony Ralston play at LB if Greg Taylor is still injured? Or Josip?

Enjoy the hoot, everyone. I wish I could be there but I cocked up at work by giving my secretary the weekend off, long before BMCUWP finalised the date for the hoot. Ah well, always next year.
Have a great time and stay safe.
BMCUWP,
I’ve just ordered a bottle of it in my booze delivery this afternoon, I’m having my own wee Hoot this afternoon plus choonsπ·
Thanks for the article on Joe Hart. It was really interesting. He had my support before but more so now. Also, the supportive words he gave to the St Mirren keeper last week demonstrated to me what a good guy he is. Still got a mistake in him but also makes good saves.
Enjoy the hoot!
Friesdorfer
I would be happy if Adam Montgomery was our left back tomorrow. That bhoy has a good bit of skill, but more importantly. He has a dig about him. He really impressed me on Thursday.
The Ref tomorrow is a certain Mr Kevin Clancy, I fear for some of our newer players especially Kyogo as they wont get much if any protection from that Spineless, soup suppin, dyke jumpin ratbag. JG.
Senga
I was looking forward to seeing you again today.
Enjoy yer solo hoot lass. ππ

Clancy has always been a Partick Thistle fan.
Now a fully fledged masonic hun.
Pitymevin- bad day yesterday?

CCE
Bring them along. My son and his mates are going to McChuills today.
Cheers Garry I was looking forward to seeing you as well, particularly for a wee smokeπ! I was in my local on Wednesday and I noticed a big difference in people’s behaviour, felt a bit uneasy. But yesterday’s announcement really shook me, anyway you and rest of the Hootenanners (?) have an absolute ball
To all going to the hoot, have a great day

I am going to abandon my planned short visit to the hoot as I have to help get a birthday party ready for 5pm this evening.
Hope you all enjoy your day and buy BMCUWP a pint for organising it.
Hope our manager stays with us for the next 10 years and we get a decade of the Angelous.

Congratulations on your Wedding Anniversary. Hope you both have a great day.
