Bloody Fed Up Of Glorious Failures
Morning,all.
Bloody hell,it isn’t easy being a Celtic supporter,is it? Two up against one of the top sides in Spain, easy street.
Then ASWGL supplied me a link to the game! (No offence, mate. I’m very grateful)
I clicked it just in time to see Betis score their first. Now,I’m not sure whether this was bagatelle in the box or the most intricate of footwork, but the ball could have gone anywhere. Sure enough,it landed in our net.
A couple of minutes later,a magnificent through ball led to a tap in for the equaliser. Form two up,we were hanging on!
Yet it all started so brightly,Ajeti getting on to a Jota cross to chest it in-VAR had to make the decision here-and shortly after he was brought down in the box for a penalty. Duly converted by Juranovic for a two goal lead.
Which could have been three straight afterwards, but Bravo somehow managed to get a touch on Jota’s dink. At three,we would surely have been out of sight,eh?
Maybe not. Our defence was all over the place, our midfield providing little if any cover to help them out. Our two centre backs might be new to each other, but last night they looked new to a football. Ralston had perhaps his worst performance since his return-but was that entirely his fault? Sure, most of their breaks came down his side, but he was getting no cover from Jota.
And that is hardly Jota’s fault,as he clearly couldnae tackle a fish supper.
The answer lay in pulling Juranovic over to replace Jota, with Montgomery dropping back to his preferred left back position. Except who could AP bring on to fill the gap on the left? Our bench was a disgrace last night,it wasn’t even up to the quota much less the standard.
That is not the fault of the players, nor of the manager. I reckon we know where the blame lies.
But back to the game,2-2 at HT,but 4-2 down a few minutes later. Ripped apart and shredded. Given a lesson,in fact,by a forty year old. And fair play to him. Yes,we had a goal disallowed,a shot from Rogic off the inside of the post, then a late consolation from the tireless Tony.
But this was a lesson. Do not send a man naked into the negotiating chamber. We have a terrific goalkeeper, but he is new to us. A right back trying-and doing very well!-to redeem himself. A new signing at left back, who is really a right back. Two right sided centre halves who are hardly on first name terms yet.
I could go on,but it is our defence,as always, which will need attention.
I believe that this will be a defining season for us,but not because it’s win or bust domestically. AP will look at the cards he had to play last night and wonder if it is worth it. If the board don’t back him in January, and PROMISE to do the same in the summer,he will walk.
Those players last night did their best. AP did his best. With what he had.
Whoever said that football was a squad game clearly hadn’t been exposed to the toxicity of our club. Last night wasn’t a squad,it was barely a quorum.

The first time I heard “Creep” would have been about 93,when I was driving through South Wales. My radio signal was shocking,so I kept retuning it-press a button and shout at it!
I then discovered the test channel for Virgin Radio prior to its launch, and that was the first song that came on. I’m not a huge fan of them, but that track certainly brings back some good memories.

Its a great song. I’m just scrolling through YouTube listening to tunes polishing off the gin 😃

About forty years ago,I converted a bunch of lager lout construction workers to the joys of gin when they finished their shift at Torranyard, near Kilwinning and Irvine.
Measure of gin, dash of lime and some ice into one of those schooner glasses, topped up with lemonade and stirred. Then trace in a fraction of a measure of Malibu.
Starts off you can taste the Malibu, but smell the gin, ends up the other way round. They called it The Green Goddess.
To be honest,on a pleasant summer day,it takes a bit of beating.

Will have to get Mrs C76 to try that 1, I’m polishing off the last of the Blood Orange Gin, I’ve got to say it’s no to bad 🍸🍸

One word, Sorrow.JG.
Can’t disagree with any of that Bobby, especially the bit about the subs bench. An absolute disgrace.
We could have made 5 subs and made 1.
That tells its own story.
But apparently we had a great transfer window.
Allegedly.
The Celtic PLC are beneath contempt. They loathe the fans, who they regard as beneath them. They are the embodiment of what you get when you have arrogant, inept, unaccountable elites.
Celtic have plenty midfielders but Ange chose not to play them.
Henderson,McInroy,Robertson,Shaw and Connell.I don’t count Bitton.
Robertson should have been part of squad but we loaned him out when he shows better defensive ability than Soro.
Shaw was decent pre season and looked like he could tackle but he has been given no minutes so far.
I am not defending our crap board for their parsimonious approach but simply pointing out that Ange could have managed squad better to deal with the circumstances we found ourselves in.
He needs better use of subs to give people game time and change on field events.
Also Soro needs to be taught his role and fleeting appearances where he runs around aimlessly are not helping.
He has the physical attributes but his positional and game sense are totally lacking.
Ralston deserves praise for his effort and will to win but last night exposed his defensive flaws and coaches need to work hard on improving him in this area.
While the defense gets pilloried for last night it is still early days and they need better protection in front of them.
In the 20 odd minutes they scored 4 goals our team shape disappeared and this seems to happen in periods in every game.
Better use of subs could help with this.
The foundations of a good team are there but fine tuning needed on playing and coaching side.
Bobby.
I really enjoyed the game last night, when we went 2.0 up i was happy as larry BUT also thinking shut the door. Catenaccio.
Alas
Defencively we were lacking,
Having said that to go over to spaln and play a very good real betis team ,score 3 goals away from home in europe gives me a great deal of optimism.JG.

How Ange feels about the squad is probably down to what assurances/promises were made.
As ‘fan’ has already been pointed out, there are guys like Robertson, Henderson available for Ange to utilise, from what we have seen of those two in particular our mid and potential replacement options in-play would have been enhanced ( I’ve not really seen Shaw, McInroy or Connel) . Maybe Ange has assessed them and they are now surplus to his requirements.
Yet he held onto Soro and left him out there on his jack jones.
This is a serious worry. What is a bigger concern is that he saw what we saw and decided to keep him on there until 60+ minutes. Soro was onto an absolute hiding anyway, but he really doesn’t help himself. At times I thought he might have been unwell and suffering effects of a medical illness. Not kidding, he was literally looking lopsided in his gait and unbalanced running. He made a few good interventions and we have seen him play some decent balls at times. There is a player in there .. but not in that role and he now requires significant coaching support.
He was the better option in Ange’s assessment. It will be interesting to see if he still thinks that way and we will know soon enough.
Overall though, we were facing a strong Spanish team in their own patch in high temperatures. We were missing a right few first team starters and we created so many problems for them. When did we ever score three goals away from home against a top 5 league team? I know we might have but can’t recall..
There are positives and Europe is our benchmark, or it should be!
The problem is that some of us are saying that we expect to go ahead in these games … we can open teams up and grab a goal early on. Giving ourselves a chance. How many times have we seen this happen recently?
It’s now a thing.
We also know good teams will then quickly suss us out .. work out what we are doing and come up with a plan to counteract it. On another channel someone posted a long list of the times we have conceded goals in quick succession. I couldn’t copy it, but it’s astonishing how we continually lose 2 sometimes 3 goals in under 5 minutes. It’s not all Barca and PSG … just about every recent opponent does this to us.
We need to buy, grow or knit players who can work out how to protect a lead – protect the guys behind them.
I’d take Ange’ approach preferably over some of our recent managers … but he must find a way to organise protection for our back line at significant phases of the game.
Nevertheless, really looking forward to our next game against Leverkusen .. a few bhoys back to fitness for that and more time to practice those ranging moves.
Stephen McGowan reporting that BT have complained to UEFA regarding the hun ban on Lennon & Sutton,BT should have pulled the coverage,as their employees safety couldn’t be guaranteed.

ATHINGOFBEAUTY doesn’t just talk a good game on here or at/after a game, she played it pretty darn well too. And then when she returned home two decades ago,she decided to coach our nephew’s primary school team.
Bit difficult to get eleven players from a Catholic school in Kilwinning,as you might imagine! She compromised by drawing them from P5 and P6 as well as P7. Girls too,and one of the latter was simply outstanding, btw.
That school had NEVER won silverware before that, though she will hate me for mentioning the above.
Point being that we have both been bumping our gums for well over a decade now-ever since NL left, hardly coincidentally-about the lack of protection for our defence. Last season was even worse,as we know. The midfield had nowhere to go when they were going forward as they didn’t have a viable option up front to pass to. And they were petrified about losing possession as they knew the defence was rubbish and the various goalkeepers even worse.
A confident midfield, one that knows that the door is closed behind them but that the opportunities in front of them are there for the taking,is the one that steamrollers games. Playing in our midfield at the moment is certainly better than it must have been last season-but yet, look at the number of times our full backs and others were caught napping and ball watching in a forward position when we lost possession.
Soro did not have a great game, not by any account. But how much was he expected and required to cover? Rogic was exceptional ON the ball, but couldn’t do the final ball, while Jota’s final ball-playing it in from wide is much easier than threading a pass through the middle,as Rogic and DT were forced to try-was maybe nice to look at. He faded badly, and offered no protection to Ralston.
Basically the side is lacking balance. The injuries don’t help, the number of new players doesn’t help-nor does the number of them being played out of position. But that is the inheritance that AP has picked up,and he is doing his best with it.
I mentioned an option in the article which included pulling Adam Montgomery back to his preferred left back role, though I struggled to think of a suitable substitute. Try this for size-take Jota off and replace him with Welsh as the right back, with Ralston further forward and therefore able to protect Welsh on that side.
The side looks more balanced,I think? Except that we now have three of our four defenders playing out of their natural position, plus two wide players who are really full backs!
Blinkin’ flip…

AFTERNOON ALL and JIM, the first half hour i thought i was watching the lions again, our play was that good ,but hey we sort out the defence and we have a team there.👍

JUNGLEGERRY
Lost me there,mate!
All of us who watched the game last night-especially if,like me,we missed the opening half hour were doing a lot of finger pointing.
I just think that we can’t simply blame the players, who are maybe sometimes not good enough or are being asked to cover for the deficiencies of their team mates. Game intelligence,as correctly pointed out by FAN-A-TIC. And we certainly cannot blame the manager, who can only play the cards he has been dealt.
And as we saw last night,he is certainly a couple short of a full house. And we know who is to blame for that.
Just a thought but have we as a support in general got used in 9iar years to the comfort of knowing if we take a 2 0 lead we can start to relax and at 3 0 its game over?.
Had we taken a 3 0 lead, and we nearly did, how many would have thought it’s in the bag?
The point about football is at it’s best its competitive (see Liverpool v Milan) and rather than Ange having to rethink is it us who have to alter our expectations?

Aye the bored.
If they dont have the interest of the supporters/shareholders at heart then they should( FFFF) or shuffle off and make room for the ones that want only the best for our club, our team and maybe let us the real ones who truly care for our celtic.JG.

Not that many benevolent billionaires out there, sadly. And we will need one to buy this bunch out. They won’t go quietly or cheaply. I’ll stick a couple of quid on the Euromillions when the jackpot gets big enough,as I honestly cannot see any other way of getting rid of them.
You can’t shame the shameless, not when they are giving us a Harry Enfield “Loadsamoney” right in our face. Bloody hell,we can’t even change their way of operating. Everyone has bigger things to worry about than Celtic, but it is the one single thing that we can all share those concerns-and yet the powers that be seem quite happy to reduce expenditure, knowing the associated risk of greater reductions in income as a result?
How in the name of whatever did these guys ever succeed in business?
(Shakes head, mutters, disappears for a bit to have a wee cry in the corner)
JUNGLEJERRY st augustines in coatbridge was better😎😎
I see that increasingly irrelevant, former z-list ‘ celebrity’ Charlie Nicholas, has taken to Twitter, and had a go at Stan Petrov.
Basically, Nicholas is claiming that SP should not be covering Celtic games as a pundit, because the latter knows nothing about the current Celtic team. Honestly. Where do you start with this?
The fact of the matter, is that Petrov is an intelligent, self-effacing young man, who knows how to read a game. Whereas Nicholas is a bumbling fool, who is rapidly gaining on Kris Boyd, in the imbecile stakes. Shut yer trap, Nicholas. No-one, but no-one, has the slightest interest in what you have to say.
Just had a very scary thought…Charlie Nicholas for our new CEO, anyone?

Scotland Ladies team play a WC qualifier tonight in Hungary. Despite Celtic finishing 2nd in the league last year , behind Glasgow City and ahead of Sevco, the squad has 7 Rangers girls, 2 Glasgow City and not one current Celt. There is even one girl from 4th placed Hibs. There are 10 English based players, 2 Italian based and one based in the USA. We do have one player, Lisa Robertson, on loan to Birmingham who made the squad.
Going dark now…..

Early 90s,I was listening to Johnny Walker interviewing The Saw Doctors. One of the band,Tony Lambert-?-had just won the Irish lottery, and complained that everyone just called him “Tony, lend me a tenner”
Well,if I win it,I’ll flash the cheque on here with my intentions for its use-as seems likely to be the choice of many of us. But that’s the whole point-it isn’t likely to happen, but how else do we get our club back?
Every discussion comes back to the cold hard tacks, they own the shares and we do not. And wishing that it were not so simply cannot change that.
Still, our predecessors built a stadium from eff all,so who knows…

Reminder of Superbru deadline – 3pm tomorrow
Nicholas will always bad mouth the club, he hates the club.
The way I was told it Brian Dempsey gave Charlie Ridiculous and Paul Elliot (I think was the other) a plot of land, where they were supposed to build a house, sell it a year later and take 100k as part of their signing on fees. Elliot stupidly never waited the year, so never made much of a profit on the house, and subsequently went to court to try get the rest from Celtic.
Nicholas was even dafter and never even built the hoose but some time later wanted his 100k, i think the sum he was offered by the club, for being so stupid was 25k and it led to a massive fall out, so he hates the club.
