The Algorithm

A friend was telling me he thought about buying something in particular, reached for his phone and opened the browser,,,
lo and behold that very item was being suggested by ads.
It wasn’t an act of God, nor a device gone rogue, but rather an act of gambling on thought process, ‘the house’ got that call correct, and it happens daily to millions around the globe.

You are compounded down into an algorithm that stalks you. Some might not care or even notice, but it’s true, you’ve been calculated.
That’s the case for the world’s biggest online marketplace, but what about closer to home?

I’ve often felt the support has been the victim of an algorithm. In plain language, the suits are able to pull our strings. Its not just our club.
I recall an Orange strip that appealed very much to a certain section of society, but likewise I recall a few Celtic Cross endorsed tops that were big hits.
Throw politics aside, those tops were the sales departments wet dreams, marketing had done their homework.
Via an algorithm.

Look at last year’s slogan,
A cause, a culture, a calling.
It’s catchy aye,but it’s bullshit.
The clear cause is profit,
We are multicultural,
We are generational fans, this wasn’t a calling? In Jocks day maybe, Lenny’s (when this was revealed) no chance of a calling to that football.
The algorithm failed in that occurrence, at least to these eyes, producing buzz phrases that don’t stand up.
Yet it works in the main.

Perhaps the biggest weapon in the Algorithm’s arsenal is the green, white, and gold of dear Eire’s flag. Stick those colours on something Celtic related and it will fly off the shelves. The black jacket I associate with Lenny the manager has both, the Cross and the colours, even if both are hard to find. The double whammy, worked a treat.

Every year there’s 3 new strips and one new slogan, all will have been researched and emerged with high odds of positive public reception. All four will have been based on our tailored Algorithm, and thus have a very good chance of satisfying the customer base. No chance of a stab in the dark shot, the tried and trusty rehashed and rotated.

It’s disturbing we are at the mercy of this powerful collection of information, an Algorithm that’s silent while it works and was created to exploit.
The right eye appeal shall open the wallets,
the correct rallying cry can help move season tickets,
the advertisement of the Foundation hints at a collective cause.

I’ve no doubt there’s an Algorithm out there designed to get the maximum out of your board members, one on the hiring of football managers, and another on how modernization improves clubs.
Funny how they couldn’t find those, eh?

Midfield that can’t pick a pass.
Lost 3 midfielders and brought in 1 that we won’t play

A thing of beauty

So disappointed with the performance and result today. We needed to step up and failed miserably. We continued to play out wide to the wings and then cut the ball back to the fullback then into the middle again. Rinse and repeat.
Livi defended in numbers and were diligent and that was enough. Giokoumakis looked ponderous and kyogo never got enough time to have an impact. I think today was a day for Mikey Johnston to start. If we donโ€™t have Rogic we donโ€™t have enough creativity with Abada. As I say disappointed and actually lucky not to concede a penalty ourselves for Hartโ€™s foul late on.
Ange said on the radio he made the decision about Giokoumakis taking the penalty. Iโ€™ve said before we have to believe him but I think there is an element of protecting the big guy. He was rank rotten today.
The banner from the GB was spot on. The 30
Minute silence harmed the team in my opinion. Maybe 10 would have been enough. A third of the game with no atmosphere was damaging.

The King,

And Giakoumakis is a starter; and Bitton too? Explain the logic of your argument, please because it is missing.

so its 1969/70, my mate cunny and I loved CCR we practised in cunnys front room, cunny on the drums, which was, remember the old ashtrays on a big stand, and a plastic bucket turned upside down, that was his hihat and snare drum, i had a tennis racket which was my guitar,,remember we were playing travelling band, we were really going for it, suddenly i looked down, my fingers and the racket strings were covered in blood,,and thats why i thought sod this for a lark, and took up the drums, it was safer,๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Žanother true story,๐Ÿ‘

Apparently Giokoumakis had scored his previous 14 penalties. God knows how going by his utterly pathetic effort today.

I am surprised and disappointed that Liam Scales hasn’t started a league game yet. Looks more than a prospect and hasn’t put a foot wrong when I’ve seen him or did I miss something ?

Gordon64

I have no words to describe how i feel tonight after watching that sideways performance today and then being gifted a pen which tbh nobody inside CP believed we would score. On such results leagues are won and lost.

Gordon64

Ange put his faith in a striker who is is not fit to wear the No 7 Jersey and gambled by not playing our best player from the start. Playing Bitton in midfield was like playing a man short. As for allowing a striker who had a stinker of a game to take a last minute penalty. Shocking game management by Ange. HH

Leggy

Hi,

Just back from game so sorry if Iโ€™ve missed something.

Team selection, wrong !!! I donโ€™t know if Kyogo was carrying a knock but, if he was, donโ€™t put him on the bench !!!

Play your strongest team Ange. !!!!

Bitton, Terrible selection!!!!

McGregor suffered as a consequence and had the worst game Iโ€™ve seen him play.

Gio, Getting pelters, give the guy a chance .

Terrible performance and only Tony Ralston, first half, and possibly Jota, deserved pass marks !!!

Not the end of the world, but hopefully Ange will learn from todayโ€™s game ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’š

Saltires en Sevilla

A bad day at the office .

So Ange Tried a few things out that didn’t work … on a steep leaning curve in Scottish fitba

Play is deliberately disrupted and our players booted up and down with impunity, they must challenge Refs more on that at the time … get around him and agree a plan to minimise bookings for dissent .. spread it about the team. Captain can ask … but does he ??

Aside from this That Midfield still take far too many touches and too long to pass the ball..opponents always have time to set and re-set. Our slow play slowly forces the game right up to their 22 yards and their two tight lines of 5, leaving little enough room to breath, far less play.

Service to front is abysmally sloooowwwwwwwwwwww,

but the good news is Ange has already demonstrated he can learn and adapt.

Gia being too Gallus dafty and missing an absolute free gift of a late pen isn’t why we frittered away 2 points

Expect There will be more days like this Until we get players who can pass one touch at a high tempo.

Awe Naw

Ange clearly reckons Thursday’s game is the most important. Hence Kyogo on the bench.

Gordon64

Our cross balls today were shocking and we consistently overplayed it outside the box looking for the perfect pass instead of having a shot at goal. I can’t believe our manager and captain couldn’t see this wasn’t working and kept repeating it ๐Ÿค”

jimthetim53

Packy, LOL ๐Ÿ™‚

In hindsight the GB silence was probably a mistake as the players were definitely not at early doors. However it clearly sent a message to the board (not that they GAF). The ‘No more pigs on the board’ banner was pretty unambiguous ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Blankety Blank now on the telly. Reminds me of the score at Parkhead today! ๐Ÿ™‚

Rebus67

The King,

Who am I? I am someone who disagrees with the tone of your efforts at responding to me. I also know that Celtic scouted McCann several times last season. But that is not the point, I did not recommend McCann, merely that Celtic held off purchasing a midfielder in the last window, and I believe they are looking at the J League for January. We are paying for that decision now, as you saw today.

Further, your disdain for PNE is somewhat flawed. Is this the PNE that gave Celtic a doing, pre-season? Preston have played 15 games in the league and McCann has started 5 and been a sub in 4, hardly the record of a dud. Check the facts before engaging your disdain.

On Giakoumakis, yep, he was top scorer in the Dutch league, and with a team that went down. Very good performance, but did you look at his scoring record prior to last season? Also, why did none of the top Dutch teams try to sign him, given his scoring record? I hope I am wrong on him but, at present, I think he is a waste of money. Werder Bremen pulled out of signing him and they are in the Bundesliga 2. That is the level of team that was looking at him. Letโ€™s revisit this in a couple of months.

Have a nice evening,

Rebus

So you are writing of the top goal scorer in Holland after 2 games.ali McCann is the saviour.god help us.gid bloody help us.fickle

Lets hope todays disaster was just a major blip and not a season defining result ๐Ÿค”

Gordon64

King Yep he’s hopeless ๐Ÿ˜œ

fan

If Ange continues with Bitton in midfield we will struggle.
McGregor is neither a goalscorer or provider..
That leaves us with only Turnbull who can assist or score in this vital area.
We will then produce more of today’s football with our slow sideways and backwards passing followed by hopeful punts into a crowded penalty box.
Kyogo’s runs in this system then become moot.

A thing of beauty

Fan,
Turnbull had the perfect stage today to showcase his skills and open up a packed defence. He did nothing of the sort. If you are playing the attacking Midfield role for Celtic at home you need to be doing a lot more than Turnbull did today. I have listened to a couple of podcasts, in particular the huddle breakdown had praised his recent performances so I watched today to see if I was being biased. I donโ€™t think I am/was. The guy has not got the mental fortitude to play such an important role for a club with the expectations of celtic. That is a long winded way to say that the jersey is too big for him. I hope to be proven wrong but thatโ€™s how I see it. McGregor had a poor game also but he was out of his usual role so I think he should be cut some slack but agree he was definitely not moving the ball quickly enough. Some of that may have been a lack of movement from the forward line. Compare and contrast the first half on Thursday with today and the movement of the front three is not even in the same ball park.
I feel also when we play against teams we know will sit in we are wasting a position playing juranovic on the left. He refuses to overlap as he knows he canโ€™t get the ball in. A natural left sided player would have at least made the run and taken a defender away. Another lesson for Ange today and one he needs to heed.
This was the first game of what was supposed to be our easier set of fixtures and weโ€™ve shit it already. Not good.
No use saying we want to see how they cope under pressure when we fold ourselves!!
