The Needle

Morning,all.

AP has successfully negotiated a cup final at the first time of asking, and given the shitshow he inherited,I think it is fair to say that he is ahead of schedule.

After the famine years post-war,how many expected Jock to be such an instant success? Given the near-disaster of 78,how many thought Cesar could do the business? Much less repeat it in The Centenary Season?

Stop The Ten Wim The Tim,or Martin taking over a team who had been-let’s be honest-laughed out of town with a 21 point deficit? And many others in our storied history. Possibly only Dr Jo has been so widely ridiculed across the media as AP. Possibly too, none apart from Dr Jo have arrived on our shores with so little background knowledge of Scotland’s unacknowledged little problems.

Quite probably though,Tom Rogic will have been quick to advise. Certainly it didn’t take AP long to figure it out.

At the weekend,we had two semi finals. Both refereed by officials of what I can only describe as not the traditional Rangers fan types. Nick Walsh booked Bitton as soon as the whistle went and then allowed “The Saints”-like,really?-the indulge in MMA for ninety minutes. That assault on Welsh should be a ten match ban,as an example.

Clancy decided to better his pal though in The Uncle Tim Weekend Sweepstakes. Book two Hibs players within 200 seconds, ignore repeated assaults on their centre half and various others. Sadly the huns were so poor that they came in third in a two horse race, and even Clancy couldn’t bridge the gap.

My point? Well,a manager who knows his stuff can and will win. But as Martin said twenty years ago,for Rangers to win they only need to be close-for Celtic to win we need to be miles ahead.

Yet that useless prick of a chairman brushes off perhaps the biggest problem in the domestic campaign as ‘a concern, but we don’t run the SFA’?

And the needle goes back to the start of the song…

I hear you Mahe. I think any coach who has people skills has a head start on a coach who has all the courses and coaching badges. Good man management will get people to run through walls for you. And a good man manager willl know a players limits and get that limit out of them
The ref conundrum in Scotland will only settle-down when their favourite team goes bust again, and they need 3 or 4 years to get back up the divisions, we will get 3 or 4 years of mediocre reffing with less honest mistakes, and they will still be Rangers no matter how many times they go broke, We can thank Peter for that

TheTic
If TheRangers went into liquidation, I think the rules have been changed so that any new club won’t start at the bottom. Or that it won’t be the decision of all the others clubs but one of an spl board.

Jobo Baldie

Good morning, friends. Can’t disagree with much of what you say, Bobby but in Ange I think we have a very knowledgeable and streetwise manager, grounded in beliefs on how the game should be played. Enjoy your cornflakes with this fantastic 25 minute interview from “Open Goal”

You are correct the rules are changed and depending on an internal private vote among the top tier, they can start at the top. In fact don’t think it’s the whole of the top tier clubs.

We know how our club will vote anyway😡

Even a 25 points deduction is no deterrent to financial doping if it creates a 25 point gap between Rangers and next in line after Celtic.

The SFA need the equivalent of Art12 of UEFA FFP to protect integrity of Scottish football sold to the worst offender by the 5WA that Celtic accepted despite denials to the contrary.

UEFA of course were never consulted on the 5WA.

Bigrailroadblues

In Laurieston Bar with Leggy. I keep bad company πŸ™„

jimthetim53

Auldheid, and the worrying thing is Uefa never intervened either. They seem content with the rottenness in Scottish football. Of course FIFA & UEFA are not exactly squeaky clean themselves.

Auldheid

Is it not time to start looking at what is working and what isnt in terms of making the Board more accountable?

For all the Hurrah that followed the vote against Bankier and Wilson from the floor at the AGM did the work put into something that was a shoo in work in terms of Bankier and Wilson resigning?

Is it not time to stand back and ask ourselves is Resolution Road by CST taking us anywhere to what we as a support desire (and what exactly is that anyway) and if it isnt working then what else might and if it does not exist should it be built and tried as an alternative.

Perhaps if the debate was approached in a what works and what does not work framework, then something new that MIGHT work could emerge.

I say might because there are no guarantees but doing the same thing and expecting a different result? We all know what Einstein said about that.

Auldheid

Jimthetim53

Correct. They knew the score in Sept 2011 and decided not to ask questions.
Verbal agreement to accept the monitoring submission from Rangers in June 2011, which by Sept 2011 after SOs called to collect an overdue payable to HMRC in early Aug, was clearly false speaks volumes.

The tone of the e mails as in UEFA are on board is telling.

Auldheid @ 3:21 pm,

Yes, it’s interesting, the fact is the CST don’t have a viable strategy as I see it – we simply need to do the maths as far as shareholding is concerned.

Now then, any strategy thought out today, needs to have milestones and schedules not exceeding the next five years.

So, as they need fifty million pounds of shares to achieve their goals, it means they need a means to raise ten million for shares each year.

Each year more shares in the CST means more influence and authority with resolutions.

As things stand with their piecemeal approach they will never achieve their goals. It then becomes a talking shop, and worse, they seem to me a cliquey, talking shop.

Trust is an interesting thing.

As we’ve discussed how forgiveness is huge like wise being non-judgemental is equally huge.

Yet trust is an interesting one, sure if someone let’s you down in something you trusted them with, you can forgive, also not judging that person or organisation too harshly is necessary.

Yet trusting again!? No, you can’t do that, it is detrimental to all involved and going forward any relationship can’t be based on trust.

For me we have to look at the CSCs, those ghuys who meet up to watch the games, or run coaches or have community events are the heart blood of the Club.

Yet they are naturally protective and paranoid on all things Celtic – until these good fholk can be convinced that wholesale change needs to occur at Celtic and within the structure of the CSA, then only a large “event” is going to change Celtic PLC and that event is almost definitely not going to be in our hands.

Auldheid.

Although often attributed to Einstein, he never said the famous quote about ‘the definition of insanity…’

As best I can tell, it was first stated in, of all places, a pamphlet by Alcoholics Anonymous… which might be sort of appropriate, as Celtic would drive most decent people to drink!

and, based on the postings some nights on here, there are some very decent people on here!

MIT- can see more riots,if it’s the wrong verdict.

Saltires and Craig76

Remember the book recommendation I gave you the other day/week. I have another one for you by the same author, Liam Kelly.

The name of the book is:

‘The Holy Grounds of Glasgow Celtic.’

It runs to 181 pages and explores sites/places around Europe, which have a Celtic connection.

I have just ordered the book from Amazon. Including p & p, the cost runs to just shy of 20 smackeroonies. Based on the author’s previous work, it should be a cracking read.

The cover of the book, is based on the classic 1969 Celtic LP, hence the title of the book.

Oh aye, Saltires I forgot to say the other day. Your ‘On this day:17 November’ article had me thinking. I was pretty sure that something significant had happened on this day in Celtic’s history, but for the life of me, I could not feckin’ well remember what.

After I posted the other day about the 1972 LC final, I got to thinking about the number of hat-tricks that the Bould Dixie scored. Then it hit me. So after a quick fact-checking visit to Google the answer presented itself.

On the 17th November 1973, Celtic beat Patrick Thistle 8-0 in Paradise. Dixie Dean’s scored an unbelievable 6 goals that day. Sitting in the stand, not far from me and my dad, was a certain James Edward McGrory, who had himself scored an unbelievable 8 goals in one game for the Celts. Mr McGrory, ever the gentleman, was quoted as saying after the game, that he wished that Dixie had broken his record. A fine touch of class from Celtic’s record scorer.

Auldheid

I assume that you are aware of the James Forrest article the other day? In the article, JF advocates a non-violent campaign of civil disobedience against individual members of the PLC board. One suggestion involves targeting other business interests of the board, hopefully hitting this crowd in their most vulnerable area. Their pockets. The beauty of this type of campaign, is that it would hurt the PLC and not the club.

Bigrailroadblues and Leggy

Sounds as if you’re having a spiffing wee day. I hope you will answer the question that we are all thinking.

Who is leading who astray? πŸ˜€

Hail Hail.

Mike in Toronto

Bada

I would not disagree with you on that. Unlike the Rittenhouse decision, which I expected based on the way the evidence went it, any verdict other than guilty in this case would be, in my eyes, based on considerations other than the evidence. If that happens, I can see a lot of angry people taking to the streets.

Craig76

MAGUA πŸ‘
I noticed the author Liam Kelly has the 3rd book out aswell Walfrid &The Bould Bhoys

Sometimes justice can be a long time coming … but today, a Chilean appeals court increased the sentences to 25 years for six chilean soldiers who were convicted in 2018 of the brutal 1973 torture and murder of Chilean singer and activist, Victor Jara.

Craig76

As a correction to my previous post, the 1973 result should have read 7-0. Those two other books will be getting bought at some point. I have been a great admirer, of the work of David Potter for many years. If you have not already read it, you should check out his book ‘I remember ’67 well’, which discusses the author’s experiences during the calendar year of 1967, trying to balance his life as a Celtic supporter during that wonderful year, whilst trying to negotiate the pitfalls of Freshman life as a student at the University of St. Andrew’s. Quite a feat, for a kid from a working-class background, in 1967.

Hail Hail.

There is an excellent documentary from 2019 called ‘Massacre at the Stadium’, which covers the final days of the Chilean folk singer. I remember it was available on Netflix a while back. I do not know if that is still the case.

Latest update,

β€œ The battle is over, The Rhebels have drawn !!!!!!”.

Got to say thanks to BRRB for a really cracking afternoon. A real gent, and I was proud to be in his company.

It’s great to meet someone from the blog and share stories, memories and talk all things Celtic. πŸ‘πŸ‘

And my liver did take a bit of a hammering, but it’s Christmaaaaaass !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bada,
Monumental effort from Kevin Sinfield. Some are just cut from a different cloth.
Mahe/bmcuwp,
Has there been any discussion on this site adding it’s name to the other Celtic fan media registering their disgust at the prospect of the club employing Bernard Higgins. I couldn’t see Sentinel Celts attached to the list. Just asking like.
