Two zero two two is upon us and if you’re reading this you live in interesting times, congrats!

I could easily sum up 2021 in one word –
We hired the future, and kissed goodbye to the past.
And lost Garry Postecoglou.
But I prefer to look ahead.

’22 begins with closed stadia, a new strain of Covid sweeping the globe, and the world changing at lightning speed.
The old ways are being replaced with cleaner and modern alternatives, cars, electricity, food, and entertainment.
That’s why it’s hard to predict any future regarding the national pastime.
Circuit breakers,
Negative Flow Tests,
Covid Passports,
These words have entered the supporters lexicon recently.
Lockdown also.
So although 2022 begins with much onfield hope, it’s begins a very uncertain twelve months off the park.

Supporters can only justify so much, and being denied live access for vital chunks of the season is going to have some questioning whether a season ticket still represents good value?
Yet moving away from the front loaded system of season ticket renewal would force many clubs to drastically alter their business practices.
Football stands very much a victim of this cursed virus, and this upcoming year the sport shall need to overcome maybe it’s toughest adversary yet.

Assuming life continues pretty much as normal with the club collecting it’s regular income stream, things actually do look on the up and up over on Kerrydale Street.
Although we are facing a very strong opponent, this team is at the beginning of it’s cycle where they are near the end of theirs.
Their four year journey took three years to deliver anything at all, which is looking increasingly underwhelming given Ange’s home run on his first attempt.

We enter the new year with a very diverse squad. It’s not old or even very young, but pretty balanced age wise. Some areas are top heavy (keepers & left backs) and some are light on numbers (central defenders & strikers) but overall there’s a good platform to build upon.
Most importantly there’s great team spirit and morale, and a sincere appreciation of the supporters for their backing.
Given the leader sets the tone, Ange must get praise for the above.

The manager is clearly happy, enthused it seems by his new found labour of love. He’s been supported, that’s settled.
He’s cherished, that’s clear.
He’s only in the door and has managed to manufacture a crack outfit from a bunch of stragglers and strangers.
All by himself.
Given the above I have little fear for his position. I don’t envisage him leaving due to unhappiness with the suits,,can’t see him even thinking of leaving the club for a couple years until he’s fully experienced all the club has to offer and has really given us his best shot,,and due the love of the club and wanting to experience the highs available I dont think he could be persuaded to leave for quite some time, unfinished business and all that.
‘Call at the end of the project and we shall talk’ I imagine would be suitors are told.

He’s settled, or at least settling in for the medium to long haul, and so the project can well and truly flourish.
We sit second in the table currently, have reinforced for the upcoming second half of the 21/22 campaign, and thankfully still have our destiny in our own hands as far as this title goes.
It’s impressive and perfectly acceptable, but I doubt it’s where the gaffer sees us this time next year.
Top by next hogmanay, nothing less.

The collection of talent we have gathered should get better with time, in theory anyway. In theory the summer signings should have improved with time and knowledge of the new managers tactics and ways, while we can presume the winter signings are of the required quality given Ange witnessed them playing up close. While current form has been impressive, signs fully point towards team improvement this year and therefore supporter excitement.

It’s a pleasure to type that. It’s by no means a given. Occasionally we approach a fresh campaign with little to no momentum, few signings to inspire if any, some basic squad maintenance performed with an aging EPL has-been for luck, and you just sense the season shall become a slog.
I’m delighted to report that isn’t the case currently.
’22 offers genuine thrills for a fanbase who just can’t get enough. There’s a buzz around the place, a feel-good factor that cant be bought but only created, and we as a unit shall witness player after player embark on their own journey in the beautiful hoops.

The promise of a never to be forgotten debut title still exists, although the managers doesn’t necessarily need to deliver the league, he’s safe in his position whatever happens. Regardless of this year’s ultimate destination, now more pieces of the jigsaw have been assembled next year’s title becomes a must win given he finally begins a campaign with his own men. Ange shall be fully judged upon the 22/23 season, this years ‘surprising’ title race is an unexpected bonus to whet the appetite.
However that does help make the latter part of the year all the more tasty as our Greek Australian aims to spring out of the traps quickly and certainly defeat our rival in the first derby clash of the year.
Like I say, top by next Christmas which makes August onwards essential viewing.
This year can’t promise us silverware. But it can and does promise the Tims a lot of unmissable action.

Football however is the most important least important thing,,,people and in particular friends being one of the most important. Ultimately if we are all still alive and kicking at the end of these twelve months, then I shall consider it a success regardless of the league table.

On behalf of myself Mahe and my partner in crime BMCUWP, we thank you for your help here and sincerely wish you all a safe and happy two thousand and twenty two.
I can’t think of a better bunch to grow old with.

Up The Hoops !!!

It’s 2022 and I’ve not woken up in crumpled clothes on a couch/bed surrounded by cans, bottles, uneaten food and stinking of cigarettes with a hangover fashioned for the tortured in Hades and feeling like my heads being rolled by a combine harvester. Things to be grateful for as the new-year begins.

On Ange Postecoglu and his progress, silver star in his jotter and its going to get better. Listening to his first training session told me everything I needed to know what he was all about.

And a Happy 22 to you all. Can’t beat an outstanding bit of political satire to start off a new day or year, but I bet even the best can’t beat this.
“Boris Johnson has named returning the crown stamps to pint glasses and scrapping a ban on selling goods in pounds and ounces on his list of the “key successes” of Brexit this year.”

You know,it makes me so proud…

Very good stuff, and aye,AP has really given us back our credibility as a club. I’ll take minor issue with one aspect of your article.
“Top by next hogmanay, nothing less.”
I’m willing to bet that his target is top at the end of the season, nothing less. I genuinely do not think this man will ever settle for a “good” second place. For him, there is no such thing.

Three players announced before the window has even opened? Whodathunkit? Terrific start to the year.

Speaking of which,I hope you and yours have a good one.

Happy New Year to BMCUWP and Mahe and to everyone on here. God Bless! 💚

January 1, 2022 1:54 pm

Craig – bet’s on. cheers!

January 1, 2022 2:03 pm

Craig, Bobby. I’ve got £14.39 in my Paddy a/c. The last time I put money into the a/c was 2 months ago – £10. Bet about twice a week on ave. Usually just a couple of pounds. I think I win more with football bets than horses. I know nothing about racing & I think it’s bent as a nine bob note! So I pick my horses for their names or the jockey’s colours – green/white/yellow/gold. I know! I’m a big girl’s blouse! LOL 🙂

Whatever works when it comes to beating the bookies!!!

You’ll be hoping for success from horses owned by JP McManus then…

New Year always reminds me that we live in a global world. Six hours before the Canadian NY, we get a call to celebrate the Swedish NY. One hour later, it is time to toast in the NY in the UK!

I celebrated the first two, Sweden and the UK, but slept through the Canadian one.

Happy New Year to everyone wherever you are.

May 2022 be a better year for us all.

A reality of 2021 can be seen in the life of the guy across the road. That year has seen the rapid decline of his wife into the mists of dementia. She is now in a home. He visits every day to have lunch and dinner with her. Twelve days ago he got covid and could not visit her over Xmas and NY. Today is the first day that he can. It is truly a good new year for him.

Stay healthy,

January 1, 2022 2:07 pm

Bobby I’ve heard his name, what’s his story?

January 1, 2022 2:20 pm

I hope you have better luck than me, mine returned a big fat zero, but it was a free bet so lost nothing

January 1, 2022 2:23 pm

Happy New Year to everyone on SC I don’t post much but read lots of what is posted on here. AP has turned the ship around I feel better about our future on the Park , but we still need big changes on the Board,
Health and Happiness to all of you this year

January 1, 2022 2:27 pm

Remember we used to get Celtic matches on NY’s day? I’d settle for a Celtic B team game on the telly today!

January 1, 2022 2:35 pm

JP McManus is one of the Coolmore Mafia and an associate of DD. A fearless gambler who owns more horses in training than anyone bar maybe the Arabs.

Billionaire of course.

January 1, 2022 2:35 pm

Here is a song for the new year. Title is Let us Sing. It covers the hope for a better future after a sad past and loss.

Hope you enjoy,

I suspect the main reason for DMcK’s departure is that the board discovered that they were on his hitlist.

January 1, 2022 2:38 pm

Good sentiments which I think we all recognise.

January 1, 2022 2:44 pm

Rebus, I’m blown away with that song/performance. amazing! Cheers pal! 🙂

January 1, 2022 2:58 pm

Happy New Year Sentinels…woke up to a clean, bottle-free house this morning – no tidying or clearing up to be done. Very disappointing to be honest. I’d have much preferred to have had the family and friends round as we do every year!
Anyway, Rebus, I never understood a word of Cantemos but the performance and sentiment left me with a tear in my eye! Cheers!

January 1, 2022 2:59 pm

Glad you liked it. Check out La beriso on Youtube. They are a former street band from Argentina. I do not know if you are familiar with fado from Portugal….a style of music by the people for the people explaining sadness and loss. Beriso are the Argentina equivalent. They are named after their priest.

January 1, 2022 3:03 pm

I’m not sure how the YouTube algorithms work so the next songs up on my PC might be different from others but this came on after La Beriso. This is a long-time favourite of mine…

Again, Happy New Year to you all 👍

Here’s one for McCaff,

There’s two fish in a tank, and one says “How do you drive this thing?

January 1, 2022 3:40 pm

Happy New Year Leggy…did you get the Big Book of Jokes from Santa? 🤣

January 1, 2022 3:42 pm

Here’s one Leggy…
Why did the reindeer help the old lady across the road?
It would have been Rudolph him not to!!
I’ll get me coat!

January 1, 2022 3:43 pm

Leggy…I got a Christmas card full of rice the other day!
It was from my Uncle Ben!! 🤣🤣

January 1, 2022 3:46 pm

…and finally…
The kids got me a nice jumper for Christmas but it kept picking up static electricity! I took it back to the shop and they replaced it, free of charge!

I’ll definitely get me coat this time!!

January 1, 2022 3:54 pm

Bobby, Craig, I watched the 2.20 Tramore earlier. 4 runners. All with the same trainer! ???
Not only did the odds on favourite not win (1/6) but the outsider (16/1) did win!
I smell something fishy!
btw I spent a fortnight camping in Tramore when I was 15. I watched the moon landings whilst there.

January 1, 2022 3:56 pm

Happy New Year to all the blog writers posters and lurkers. 🎉

A bishop came to our church once, he was obviously an imposter, he never once moved diagonally.

My coats already on 😜

January 1, 2022 4:03 pm

Craig, I won! 2 places & a win. £5.11. Happy New Year. it’s an omen.
£19.50 in my a/c now.
PP paying out extra places helped. One of my nags was 6th! LOL 🙂

January 1, 2022 4:07 pm

Well done Jim think your better at this gambling malarkey than you make out 😀😃

January 1, 2022 4:09 pm

Another from La Beriso…early work. It is about the last parting of two lovers.

Just watching the performers blend is enough in itself.

January 1, 2022 4:19 pm
