If you’re going to do something, do it right

The weekend chat has been informative, and much more is needed to really flush out what is necessary and what can actually be sold to the masses. At the moment the latter is more important, however that’s not an insurmountable barrier.
The right words, and the right people, could pull this off I’m sure.
It’s well intentioned and best done while we can, for you never know what’s next.
Ref cheats us out of the league in the last derby clash there will be a flood of calls for a strong organization for instance.
It truly is time to wrestle with the idea.

So with that mind I ask any and all to contribute in whatever way possible,,,
Ideas or opinions thrown out there or maybe helping draw up the manifesto/raison d’etre.
I recall watching the boul Canamalar whipping up the guts of a resolution elsewhere many moons ago.
That was spawned on a website full of well intentioned folk, and now others must step up to the plate.

Who are we?
What are our aims?
How shall we achieve them?

The 3 biggest questions that deserve as much focus as possible, for they are your cornerstone and you can only form and launch once, there’s no going back and there will be eyes on this venture.
Btw Walfrids Warriors sounds good to me.

Over a few hours I noticed some supporter orgs (usually Trusts but that’s obviously taken) actually do have representatives on the board, such as Brentford. He’s probably bound by an NDA but that’s surely the ultimate aim. In fairness the Brentford Bees did cough up big funds to help stabilize the club and as a reward where issued a golden share so they have the power to veto the largest decisions such as name, home kit , and stadium change.

The golden share idea has been thrown out down south, making it mandatory.
We can only imagine being so involved, despite being famous for our,,, involvement.
Government down south has accepted the proposals contained within the report by Tracey Crouch, but within a day Crystal Palace had came out sceptical with the phrase ‘in my experience you’ll never find anyone who reflects the whole fanbase’ before making the wise suggestion heritage matters be for season ticket buyers.

For a club probably making a loss, the new idea that he kicks down a decent percentage of every incoming transfer fee might be at the heart of his discomfort, but that just goes to show there’s even more disagreement at the top level of football than the bottom. Many fans shrug, pay, and turn up. All owners/operators/directors have opinions, and they can’t agree on much. The Palace chairman was correct fans are divided, and we can assume every club thinks that way.
This makes the approach with a new group with fresh aims even harder but nothing worthwhile was ever accomplished easily.

Some independents have thrown together this lengthy but detail packed PDF regarding club and supporter affairs (it’s great reading but would make you angry at how we get treated).

However some have taken member involvement too far and they are not only selecting the team but laying out the tactics,,,Fan-A-Tics dream?

The slowly but surely approach is best imo, many a hasty decision has come back to bite.
This isn’t going to happen overnight, first we need to be sure we know how to make it happen, alongside making sure it’s wanted and sellable to the average Tim.

I think you missed out a key question. Why?

In part of a post yesterday I said this:
The demographic you are appealing to will ask:
What is it?
Why is it needed?
How will it happen?
Who will administer it?

January 10, 2022 8:23 am

A brief first paragraph describing what this article is about would help, I had to skim through halfway to realise it was about fan involvement, were the authors pished when writing AND sending it?

I usually read your articles first through the night but, Do Something Right was a strange name for it, again were authors pished?

January 10, 2022 8:31 am

Not being critical before I’m jumped on, just making a constructive criticism following Charlinick’s point.

Lead articles can sometimes ramble on.

A tighter edit and brevity would get the message across better.

January 10, 2022 8:58 am

Morning all. I wasn’t aware of the Supporters Direct group. The 48-page doc is a bit of a read for a workday so I’ll need to leave that till later! A cursory glance though suggests the starting point for this initiative is in front of our eyes…Supporters Direct seems to be the leading advisory agency for fan inclusion in decision making.

January 10, 2022 9:36 am

As always, this forum is open to all,and that includes members writing the lead article. Give it a try.

Btw,literature, cinema and music are filled with titles bearing little resemblance to, or information about, their subject matter. This one,for instance,is a classic and lasts almost six minutes.

An English legal decision has no relevance in Scotland of course, but this one might be of interest to Celtic.

Charlinick. (Welcome to the blog btw)

“The weekend chat has been informative.”
The first sentence of today’s article. That introduces the theme of the article. So if you were an absolute virgin to the blog you might have to have a glance at the previous day’s posts to catch the drift. To the vast majority of readers it was self explanatory.
No big deal.

I thought the article VG. 10/10.

I think you missed out a key question. Why?

In part of a post yesterday I said this:
The demographic you are appealing to will ask:
What is it?
Why is it needed?
How will it happen?
Who will administer it?
I would change the order.

Why is it needed? How about the game is as straight as a pretzel or curly wurly and needs straightened out.? Or are you saying after reading the Res12 narrative there is no corruption and Celtic are not party to it?

What is it? To be decided based on how much supporters wish Celtic to reflect the values supporters hold.

How will it happen? By persuasion that the game is corrupt enough to require correction. Exposing the corruption has been difficult because MSM has avoided it requiring social media to get it out.

Adverts pointing out the corruption get comment on MSM. There were 2 in the past on not accepting Rangers were the same club and Persistence Beats Resistance that breached the gap.

Educating the support about how the same club idea had its genesis in the 5WA that UEFA were not consulted on.

Who will administer it? Paid employees charged with carrying out the aims of the Service reporting to a Board with the professional skills to steer the service.

Writing that Im thinking a Membership Service for supporters of all clubs is needed but it has to start somewhere.

The Scottish Football Supporters Association, not Supporters Direct , would be the vehicle for that. They are working towards what would improve Scottish football and the Res12 narrative has caught their attention.

Corruption affects the lives of all and sooner or later when aware of the damage it is causing, society or in the narrower sense football and Celtic folk want change.

The first task to call on the title of a recent movie is to Get Folk Looking Up.

Obviously the education stage will take cash and folks who have it spare will need to be sold on the need.

Those folk, who funded the balance of the £11,266 not covered by crowd funding for Res12 legal fees and pledged £20k to pay for legal opinion on the
SFA governance are still out there.

We are not alone in wanting fair play.

January 10, 2022 12:17 pm

The Supporters Direct group are mainly England focused and I believe they have a degree of dependency on SFA.

The Scottish Football Supporters Association are independent and are now working more towards changing the game.

I’ve been networking with them for a number of years and trust them.

They have picked up on The Tracy Crouch initiative and will be asking why not the same for Scottish Football?

I’ll keep SC posted on what they are doing to bring about change in the game.

Re Membership Scheme:
When I was a member of the Pollokshaws No.1 CSC, “way back, I say Way Back” we used to have monthly meetings and an AGM. A representative of the Supporters Club attended all monthly meetings of the Supporters Association as well. Do CSC’s still have these meetings or at least an annual AGM? If they do would this not be an excellent way to spread the message re the Membership Scheme, for someone to go and address the supporters face to face, with whatever was agreed to start the MS, and ask for their support? Maybe not as many CSC’s as there was when I was a member, would this way reach a suitable number of supporters for it to be worthwhile, I’m unsure of the answer to that. por cierto.

Interesting piece of info.
The Independent Inquiry into the terrible murder of Sarah Everard is to be chaired by Dame Elish Angliolini. Despite her grand title, Elish was a girl brought up in Govan from a working class family. She attended Notre Dame HS for girls.
So some good things come out of Govan.
I hope she uncovers the all too frequently reported failings of the Met.

January 10, 2022 2:24 pm

Happy birthday Prestonpans and may it be a good one Sir.

Another signing eh,,5 in all. Wow. Surely clear favourites for next season now, with a great shot at this title.

Why I do believe we’ve actually gone and supported the manager heavily. Peter must be having a heart attack. Next year’s costs will be huge.

Happy Monday yall

January 10, 2022 2:34 pm

One slight worry is that’s six Australasians in the team, half a team missing when they fly back, and half a team tired/jetlagged upon return.
23 year old is a good age however I just can’t see where everyone fits here.

Harate, Ideoguchi, Calmac, Riley, Tam, Bitton, DT, Soro, McCarthy
Maybe more
Someone won’t be happy at being stuck on bench.
I think young Riley is a long term project.

Mahe, Peter Lawwell should forget about Celtic. He should go and spend his retirement as a Non Exec. Director at Ibrox. I’m sure he would love that. He did more for them (2 – old and new) than he did for Celtic.

January 10, 2022 2:42 pm

Jim I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s still hanging around somewhere in another five years. These suits just don’t seem to leave.
Would love to be a fly on the wall at Parkhead though, there’s been a total change of tact, that usually comes from the very top.
We are getting seriously tooled up here.

Of course, he should, he loved them that much, that their followers tried to burn his house down with his young granddaughter and other members of his family asleep in the house at the time, I despair at times, por cierto

btw I haven’t read who was responsible for the arson attack.

Agree with that synopsis.
That was an example of how the idea can develop.

Questions that require a considered answer get responders thinking.

You questions helped me to articulate my thoughts more.

There is a process called The Logfame that I have a passing acquaintance with that precedes formulation of a project plan and it is in following that logic something worth pursuing might emerge.

From my limited perspective, the Mcgree signing is a strange one. His history suggests he is a journey man, travelling from club to club, continent to continent. In some sense similar to that of GG although he cranked up a good year in the Netherlands.

Ange will know this player inside out and is clearly prepared to back him. So, the three J League signings , GG, and McGree will tell us how good Ange is at spotting unpolished diamonds. I hope he knows what he is doing.

Against these concerns is perhaps Ange’s desire to commence a rotation system to mitigate tge hamstring problem?

Interesting times, indeed!

CFC, IMHO, your posts have been outstanding over the last couple of days, particularly.

Thank you for the nods.
Important topics require a bit of thought,

Ideas sometimes need to germinate, rather than be forced.
And their development is often the better for multi input.

Diversity of opinions are healthy.

From Ghayedi’s Wikipedia page…

“ On January 10th, 2022, it was reported that Celtic FC were interested in signing the player. To expedite the transfer Ghayedi has claimed he knows the words of “Sean South” backwards and has made a sacred scroll from the jersey of Dariusz Dziekanowski that is only brought out when the posh cousins come.”
