Six huge weeks begin

I’ll be approaching the 2nd half of the season almost exactly how I approached the 1st, with zero expectations of ultimate victory. Despite having assembled probably the best squad in the land, despite having the best striker, left winger and central defender in the league, despite the fact the title is still in our own hands, I’m not going to publicly predict a famous dream debut title for our Greek Australian leader.

Wearing the green tinted specs, sure there’s a good chance it could happen, but given the circumstances the head is overruling the heart by telling me its a step too far this year.

Even with a managerial change the current Champions have been ruthless domestically, hoping for that to change would be simply that, a hope and not an expectation.
Realistically, another ruthless six weeks would more than likely be enough to seal another Championship.

The team currently playing out of Ibrox shall face the best the nation has to offer in a very hard sequence of fixtures, starting tomorrow with a visit to a Scott Brown lead Aberdeen who will fancy their chances having blown a great lead at Ibrox, and finishing with a trip to Tannadice trying to halt the leagues top scorer Tony Watt.
In between Hearts, Hibs and our course our own team awaits.
I wouldn’t want their immediate fixture list, but perhaps they see it differently over there, and relish the chance to get one hand on the league trophy.
Entering March with a six point or more gap at the top, with only three fixtures that month, would have even the most fervent Tim thinking it’s over.
Anything but a Celtic victory in the early April derby clash would then surely seal the league.

Do I expect that club to waltz through the next six weeks racking up victory after victory, no. But then I didn’t expect their very strong start to the season, only one defeat this far with their famous twelfth man their MVP.

The Leather Belts shall go about their business regardless of events elsewhere, but time is running out to wrestle that title back where it belongs.
In order to become Champions once again, it’s clear what must happen.
We must become the more ruthless team over the next six weeks.

Glasgow Celtic must at least match our opponents leading up to the derby clash. Any dropped points must come from the other side of the city so as to enter the big game with momentum.
And then we must win that derby clash fullstop.
Anything less and we won’t be in the hunt to become Champions.

More and more that tie is becoming a winner takes all clash. We thrash them and send a demoralized, hurting squad against the two Edinburgh teams immediately afterwards, their worst nightmare could happen and momentum shifts.

A draw doesn’t help us. Should the Ibrox mob secure all three points, they can bring a large degree of confidence into the two following fixtures, two victories and the leagues as good as done.

Should that happen we must hold our hands up. Beating Celtic, Hearts and the Hi-Bees one after the other at this stage of the season would be the mark of Champions, excellent form the rest just can’t live with.
Yep, the next six weeks could secure their second title in two years and forty million smackeroonies.

The famous Glasgow Celtic can’t secure the title in the next six weeks, but they can secure a title race. Emerging the stronger by first of March with a derby victory notched up merely means the final three months shall turn into squeaky bum time, and places even more importance on the last two meetings between the teams.

Every season is important but few offer a debut title either way, or such huge financial rewards.
They shall fight to win, we must fight to keep hope alive.
Bring it on.

JIM, i forgot to tell bored to death, you write all the scripts for me and sol😎😎

Craig- I think it’s part of the plan for Oluwayemi, the GK we got from Spurs, is seemingly being developed to be No 2 or 3 soon

Mahe

Good leader. As I have previously posted, this season already reminds me of the 1997-98 season. There are a lot more twists and turns to come before May. It will not do the ould heart any good, but the same outcome as the 97-98 season will do just dandy.

BMCUW

I can only remember the Celts playing once on a Monday in my lifetime…a certain game in May 1979!! Outwith that game and tonight, can anyone remember the Celts playing a competitive game on a Monday evening?

Big Packy

I hope that you and Joan are keeping well.

Craig76

I haven’t been doing my usual channel-hopping around the Celtic blogs lately, so cheers for posting the Celtic Star articles on Celtic/Hibs. Thoroughly entertaining, so they are.

Jono

Thanks for posting the road to Lisbon documentary. A most enjoyable way to spend an hour and a half.

Mon The Hoops.

Hail Hail.

MAGUA, was thinking of you yesterday when we scattered evelyns ashes ,and that is definately a true story, hope you are well pal👍

McCaff

Magua…good to see you back. If my memory serves me, when SKY first started broadcasting Scottish fitba they had a deal for a Sunday evening game – about 5 or 6 o’clock I think – and a Monday night game. I’m ready to be corrected if my memory is letting me doon!!

Chairbhoy

Excellent stuff Matt, great to see you posting.

See all the cautions for the world Cup qualifiers will be discounted and everyone will be eligible to play – good news for Scotland.

Yes, a huge six weeks kicks-off this evening, thing is we should be getting stronger, smarter and fitter as it progresses so high hopes.

Tuff game this evening though but 3-2 to the bhoys.

Hail Hail

Have I missed a signing 🤔 didn’t know we’d got another keeper

bada bing1

Craig- we got the Bhoy last summer from Spurs, highly rated prospect, on the bench a couple of times for us

Chairbhoy

McCaff @ 4:36 PM,

The Sunday games I certainly remember, watched a few up the pub with my dad.

There were certainly English Monday night games on Sky – can’t remember any Scottish ones though.

Hail Hail

Craig76

Bada
I definitely missed that transfer, but I’ll look out for him now.
MAGUA 👍
Good to see you back, I’ve not read the last 2 articles about Celtic/Hibs yet I’ll catch them when I get in from work but the 1st 6 were a good read

Jobo Baldie

No more sleeps (power naps excepted) 😉

Big Packy

Thanks pal. God bless.

McCaff

I do remember the 18.05 Sunday evening kick offs. Absolute murder trying to get back to the boozer before shutting time, if playing at Pittodrie. Can’t recall any Monday games though. I was wondering who the new nightshift poster was. I only clicked that it was Puff Puff, when the craic started between yourself and ‘Old Dirty’. I had a real good chuckle to myself at Puff Puffs’ “Well hello there darling” to Mrs Santa. Good luck to the young fella with the exams.

Cheers. 😀

Hail Hail

A thing of beauty

Oh well, it’s the pass to paradise for me. Bloody covid. I only tested because I was going to the game and was being public spirited. I knew I was looking forward to tonight too much. Cest la vie.
The team is exciting but it’ll be an open game as chair boy says. Time to settle down behind the couch.

Craig76

Craig76

Craig76

The pace of Maeda along with Kyogo when he’s back is going to scare the shit out of defences

Chairbhoy

Great first half, Hibs are no mugs but they don’t know what’s hit them.

Hatate and Meada look absolute standouts, kwality Street ghuys.

Looking forward to the second half and the subs.

Celtic 2 – 0 Hibs HT

Sol Kitts

Hatate looks absolute class, running the midfield, exciting times ahead.

jimthetim53

What a debut from Maeda & Hatate! Pure class.

Craig76

You wouldn’t think we’ve not played a competive game since boxing day

jimthetim53

“At times last season Celtic were so slow and ponderous but this is blistering attacking football”
Michael Stewart.

Chairbhoy

JimTheTim,

Michael Stewart nails it.

The contrast from last January amazing… Totally different team, totally different philosophy and attitude.

A team looking like Celtic.

Anybody betting against the quadruple;))

ATOB, you can come out from behind the couch, you missed nothing:))

Thought it would  be closer but didn’t know we signed the new Dixie Deans and Bobby Murdoch.

Some very sharp, smart play. The way Meada ran across blinding the keeper to James Forrest swerving shot.

Still running out of steam aroung sixty minutes, if we are going to win with Angeball against quality opposition it’s something to look at. But Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Great Game – wonderful performance and Hatate man of the match.

Celtic 2 – 0 Hibs FT

TIM, cheers pal👍😎😎

Chairbhoy

Got to say I said that new Japanese ghuys wouldn’t make a short term difference – strike that, we now have a squad.

We looked better at set plays as well.

Starfelt had a very good game CHs looking very solid, professional and a set play threat.

We deserved the clean sheet.

Good refereeing I must say.

The Celtic PPV and whole presentation was excellent, very professional.

All in all, fantastic night of football.

In Ange we Trust – Awesome

Hail Hail

jimthetim53

Very pleased for Matate getting man of the match. He looked surprised but delighted!
Feel a bit sorry for Maeda though! But he will be proud as punch to get his goal on his debut. 🙂

jimthetim53

Chairbhoy, never thought I would agree on this but yes the refereeing seemed fine to me!

Chairbhoy

JimTheTim,

Well, we give them enough stick, deservedly so, so credit where credits due.

Hail Hail

Sol Kitts

Chairbhoy
Agreed, Collum had a good game, but it has to be said the players made it easy for him. There wasn’t a bad tackle in the game, and he dealt easily with whatever came his way. The yellow cards were all correct, too.
Mind you, he may be feeling some pressure to show himself as impartial following alleged spot betting irregularities, but I don’t think it’s him that’s being investigated, more the players who might be involved.
Collum, like a few other Scottish refs, could be decent if he would just lose the agenda and ref games fairly. Tonight he showed what he could do if he wanted to.

Leftclicktic

A thing of beauty.
I hope your isolation flies in and you are on the mend soon.HH

A thing of beauty

Fantastic first half but fell away second half. That’s disappointing but Hatate, Maeda and Forrest have not played a game for around 7 weeks. Factor in big tam always taking a few weeks to get up to speed after a lay off then I think we did well.
Starfelt took pelters on the blogs and podcasts in the break and in all honesty you couldn’t argue with what they were saying, the numbers spoke for themselves but tonight he was excellent. Well done Carl, take a bow. Now keep it up!!
Chairbhoy
My seat behind the couch was not needed though second half I thought I may need to look it out again.
I shall sleep soundly tonight. I am always happy when Celtic win. I dont need much!!

A thing of beauty

Lefty,
Thank you kind sir. It is what it is, no point moaning. Mind you I’ll likely be moaning like you know what come Wednesday!!

A thing of beauty

Sorry forgot to add that I agree with sol and chairbhoy. Collum had a good game. That’s what you get when two teams are actually playing football though I tell you, it’ll never catch on. It would be lovely if it did though.

That’ll do…as they say in Yorkshire. A potential banana skin overcome.

Looking forward to the Scottish Cup on Saturday. Have always loved this competition, since my first cup final on 6th May 1972. Dixie Deans. Still a legend.

Such a pity that the FA Cup in England is looked down upon these days, at least by the top flight clubs. I guess that’s what happens when money is king.

BelmontBrian63

If you’re lurking a chara, I hope you enjoyed that great 3 points.

ATOB

Amen to that. I don’t ask for too much either. 😀

Hail Hail.

jimthetim53

Obviously I hope we hammer Alloa on Saturday but I have a soft spot for them. If I remember correctly they gave Sevco a big riddy when they were in the lower leagues! 🙂

Chairbhoy

Sol Kitts @ 9:58 pm,

Well that’s an interesting thought, the last thing he needed was a controversial game.

Agreed the players made it easy for him, they wanted to play in a football match but still…

He could have missed the handball for the penalty, its always a tricky spot for an SFA match official in the Celtic opposition box

ATOB…

It does prove they can do it, Refs like Collum have years of experience at all levels. It’s the agendas that do for them, just not that good or that smart – let the players dictate who wins the matches a new Scottish tradition.

Hail Hail

Mahe

Was working and missed game but the Maeda comments are interesting.
Does he remind anyone of any other player out of curiosity?

Magua, good to see you on

Hail Hail
