The midweek points haul was very, very significant indeed, I’m sure you would agree.
But would you agree Sundays three points are equally important?
Momentum swung around 8.30pm Wednesday evening, that sweet swing being the culmination of some excellent transfer business and this unit becoming ruthlessly consistent.
It took win after win after win to get us into looking at pole position, then another one to achieve it. As such every victory was vital and played its own part in placing us atop the heap, but just because we are top and bested the Champions doesn’t mean we can ease off a little.
Sunday’s clash doesn’t offer as much glamour or spoils as the midweek one, but make no mistake it’s absolutely a must win. A draw wouldn’t derail our title charge, only slow it a touch.
A win however keeps our boot on their neck.
Another victory offers a cherry on top of a great Celtic week. This clash affords us the opportunity to build upon the stunning 3nil thrashing handed out, plus send the current Champions into their tough evening match 4 points behind.
While prolonging the feel good factor.
Wednesday’s result shall correctly enter the pantheon of famous victories, not winning this weekend risks taking the shine off those heroics. It risks calls of inconsistency, perhaps offering others hope that we aren’t a relentless juggernaut that simply sweeps all aside.
It was important to record a statement victory, but it’s equally important to build upon that statement. Motherwell FC now offer that chance.
By hook or by crook this away fixture must be won. With both Edinburgh teams one after the other the demoralized Champions shall attempt to find comfort and solace wherever they can, Celtic dropping points would be celebrated. Especially by the media.
If there’s going to be any celebrations this weekend, it must be firstly at Fir Park. After that the rest can do whatever they want but Glasgow Celtic must handle their business, not necessarily in style though that would help.
Three “more” points please, to show the hallmark of winners. To start reaching out for that title.
