Mean Business!

Morning,all.

We all remember the pre-season video clip of AP rousing his troops at training, reminding them that they do the business on the training ground and on the match day.

“Then we celebrate”

When we saw that,we knew we had a hands-on manager who meant business,a man who had standards and wouldn’t allow them to be undermined by players who either couldn’t or wouldn’t live up to them. This was such a pleasure after recent events prior to his arrival.

It was also a pleasure to hear him coming out and telling it like it is,no pulling of punches, after Sunday’smatch. That was no surprise of course,as he has long been used by now to stupid questions from our media. What WAS a surprise, perhaps,is that he fired in with both barrels. In public.

Our performance was not good enough, well short of the standards he expects. We train with intensity and he expects intensity on match day. Etc,etc, etc.

He certainly did not hold back,in the manner which has become almost a trademark of Celtic managers since the departure of Martin O’Neill. How long, how many years, have we complained about our managers praising performances which we knew to have been rank rotten, having watched them with our own eyes? Strachan may have been the worst,as he insulted our knowledge of the game by telling us that we knew nothing as we had never played the game. Others though were just as bad,and it certainly didn’t endear them to the fans.

There is a problem though with playing the intensity game, and that is the likelihood of running out of steam before the ninety minutes are up. That though is down to intrinsic fitness of individual players, and we have all seen that drop in the two years or so prior to Ange’s arrival. It is Angeball now,and if the players didn’t know it before Sunday, they certainly know it now.

One or two players were given an opportunity on Sunday, and I think they failed the audition. Others will be told to ramp up their fitness levels, their ability to perform at the levels that the manager requires. These players have put our club back on top of the league, and for that we should be grateful. And we are.

And so too,I suspect,is AP. He will know that his success is measured by results, and that those results only come about because of the input from the players. Our results so far this season scream that the players have bought into the new high-intensity regime, exactly what players at the top level need, that encouragement to improve and the means and methods to do so. Such a change from recently, when players got out the pipe and slippers.

But just when they think they are on the top of the world,AP does his job, brings them back down to earth and tells them the truth while letting us all know exactly the same. I’ll be my usual honest self and tell you that I knew the square root of eff all about this man before he joined us,so therefore when he was appointed,I certainly didn’t criticise that. I looked at his record and, frankly, crossed my fingers.

But he has me more enthused about the progression of the club than anyone since MON.

If the team continue to buy into his philosophy, get their core fitness up so that 60 minutes isn’t a barrier, listen to the man,we can do great things. I believe most of them wish to do so,but I’m not sure everyone is capable. Ange will know for sure who is up to the job.

Meantime,I am 100% convinced that AP himself is up to the job. And I think he is only starting it. It might be an idea to get him off that iniquitous 12-month contract and signed up to a proper 3,4,5 year deal. Quickly.

Morning all,

Bobby, 100% agree with your article 👍

I also agree that we should try and get Ange fixed up on a longer deal, to stop the possibility of him being snatched from under our noses. I don’t think he would leave as, judging from his comments/demeanour, he’s not that kind of person to “ Jump Ship” and leave us in the lurch.

In Ange we trust.

Great article Bobby – spot on summary imo 👍

Good morning everyone and I totally agree with BMCUW tbat getting Ange signed up to a longer term deal would be great business.

I watched the video of him being interviewed yesterday and the phrase that really resonated was ‘anything I say, is secondary to my actions.’

The man is a born leader and the best thing to happen to Celtic for a very long time.

CFC

Ange is everything you want in a leader:

Honest, Focussed, intelligent, intuitive, empathetic, has the loyalty and respect of his charges. Has a vision, a strategic thinker and is a good communicator.

This guy will be on many clubs radar.
He’s the priority signing.

CFC

Other virtuous qualities are available but I don’t want to sound as if I’m writing a hagiography 😀

Quiet on here today:

Here’s a wee joke then,

A lady goes to her priest one day and tells him,

‘ Father, I have a problem. I have two female parrots, But they only know to say one thing’

What do they say?’ the priest asked.

They say, ‘Hi, we’re hookers! Do you want to have some fun?’

‘That’s obscene!’ the priest exclaimed, then he thought for a moment…..

‘You know,’ he said,

‘I may have a solution to your problem. I have two male talking parrots, which I have taught to pray and read the Bible… Bring your two parrots over to my house, and we’ll put them in the cage with Francis and Peter.

My parrots can teach your parrots to pray and worship, And your parrots are sure to stop saying… That phrase… In no time.’

Thank you,’ the woman responded, ‘this may very well be the solution.’

The next day, She brought her female parrots to the priest’s house….

As he ushered her in,

She saw that his two male parrots were inside their cage holding rosary beads and praying..

Impressed, She walked over and placed her parrots in with them…

After a few minutes, The female parrots cried out in unison:

Hi, we’re hookers! Do you want to have some fun?’

There was stunned silence… One male parrot looked over at the other male parrot and says,

‘Put the beads away, Frank, Our prayers have been answered! ‘

Bobby,

Few will disagree with the thrust of your article. Celtic have been crying out for a transformational manager or DOF for ages. Now not only do they have one but they have him in the best of situations. Principally, the best situation means no PL dogging his actions. Similarly, he inherited a mess from which the only way was up. What is surprising is that Ange has performed a transformation so quickly. However, the sceptic is never far from my mind. Will it last? Frankly, I do not know the answer to that. Bielsa’s track record is one of fleeting success. Bielsa is also a proponent of the high intensity style favoured by Ange. He usually leaves or is sacked as his teams decline. Similarly, Ange tends to stay 3-4 years and then move on just after his teams have peaked…Brisbane Roar and Yokohama.

However, however, many managers, distinct from Ange’s style, have a similar shelf life of 3-4 years with a club.

Does Ange derive his job satisfaction by building rather than maintaining success? If so, he will certainly move on from Celtic. Further, he is ambitious and I would expect him to relish the challenge of the EPL. If that happens, I expect it will happen in a totally different manner to that of BR. Let’s just enjoy the ride while it is happening. Only the club is permanent.

Good stuff again … remember from that script ” we don’t stop!”

Maybe we still have that to look forward to.

Leggy – superb that’s being shared ….a lot thanks

Rebus -agree Ange probably won’t leave us in the grubber, but must have his eye on an EPL slot ?

Hope it’s a few years away… can I take 3 seasons to the bank 😅

anyone know a good floorlayer, got my kitchen floor done by the bhoy from govan, wont mention his name but it was mcaff 😍😍 he gave me a 5 year guarantee FFS im walking on the floorboards,,and add insult to injury, put him up for a fortnight, fed him on the best, tatties and mince, stovies, and toast and cheese, or cheese on toast ,all done on posh pan breed, another true story😍

BMCUW

Great leader. I think that the 1 year rolling contract suits both parties at the moment. After all, BR fecked off pretty pronto, despite having signed a 4 year contract the previous year. I do think that Ange is here for the long term…and by that I mean 3 or 4 years tops. I guess we should just enjoy the ride while it lasts.

Saltires en Sevilla, yes initial contract was 12 month rolling, would love to see commitment to a longer one from both Ange and the board.

I’m loving how he goes about his business and feel he could give us some magical days, nights, seasons and happy memories to last a long time.

Bobby, excellent article.
Ange took a bit to convince me and I do still have a couple of reservations. His reluctance to make subs when we are wilting , Tynecastle and Pittodrie are examples of this. Also his faith in Bitton which I just don’t understand.
I would also like to see some more backroom staff brought in , as it looks as if he is doing everything.

Think BMCUWP has been looking at Bristol to Belfast! Flights from Glasgow much cheaper.

I used to go over to Belfast to do some business start up talks to dentists. Flights, accommodation etc were all booked for me by the organisers in Belfast. First time I went I flew from Gatwick to City (George Best) airport and paid £5 for taxi to city centre hotel. Return flight was easyJet from Belfast International Airport to Gatwick. Flight cost £29. Taxi to airport cost £30.
Taxi trip and flight both took about 40 minutes.
True story (as someone on here would say)

Big Packy

What a brilliant article. 😀 I would have to take issue with one point in the article, namely that St Mary’s (1952) was the first CSC to be formed in Belfast. I reckon that the first CSC formed in Belfast was the St Peter’s CSC founded in 1945, and one of the founder members of the CSA, also founded in 1945. This CSC was based in the Lower Falls area. The area remains a Celtic stronghold to this day. I wonder if The Celtic Bar is still going strong? I certainly hope so.

It is being reported in various outlets, that Celtic supporters are to be allowed into Ibrox for the next league game. My first thought on reading this was:

“WTF are the Huns up to?”

Call me inquisitive/suspicious/paranoid-delete as appropriate-but the Huns never take any action without a reason… usually to the benefit of the Ibrox mob, and the detriment of Celtic.

My second question was:

“Why now? What are the feckers up to?”

If this is the case, then the support, should let the PLC know that the Huns can stick their tickets where the sun don’t shine. Are Celtic going to reciprocate? If so, that-and not for the first time-would be poor form from the PLC.

This all smacks to me of textbook deflection tactics from Mr Robertson. Is there something in the pipeline that we do not yet know about? A big tax bill for example? Or another nice wee court case? Only time will tell.

Hail Hail.

COSYCORNERBHOY et al

When MAHE told me when he was back in town for a visit, neither of us realised that the appointed weekend was that of the Platinum Jubilee. That has probably driven up prices, though the flight/hotel operators might be a tad optimistic.

You are correct that I have mainly checked flights from Bristol/Heathrow but I only did so in the first place because BIGRAILROADBLUES told me on Saturday that prices from Glasgow were through the roof! Since confirmed via text and mail by others who have already booked up,and some of whom have taken the Airbnb route instead of hotels.

Of course, something else I didn’t realise was that Ryanair don’t fly there from Glasgow anymore. Or Bristol. But BADABING seems to have struck gold,so the flights are there somewhere. Anyhow, the plan was for two years ago,and Covid wrecked it. It’s bloody well happening this time!

Great Article BMCUWP

Ange has the fans behind him which is paramount we are playing great football and we are all buying into the mans philosophy of how Celtic football club should approach each game and therein lies the inevitability of his departure.

Post Jock Stein Party Marty and Billy McNeil managed for five years and albeit Billy and Neil Lennon had two tenures there is no longevity in being our manager.

Circumstances always dictate.

Successful more affluent clubs take notice and a personal kings ransom awaits with the transfer treasure chest to buy players at £20 million not £5 million.

Conversely if Ange hits a downturn I would not expect Celtic fans to turn on the guy but that’s the pressure of being the boss at Celtic.

We have one trophy in the cabinet, leading the league by a point and opportunities to progress in the Scottish cup and the European Conference league how good is that?

In a rebuild season we are a country mile ahead of where we should be and Ange is as relentless as our team.

As previous posters have intimated enjoy this guy while we can.If we can retain his employment for 5 years I will be extremely happy but I very much doubt we will.Win the league and hope hope the treble and see if in a position of strength Celtic strengthen?

That’s football

CFC

Celtic and Ange offer positive opportunities for both.
The respect is obviously two way.

He has the challenge of reasserting our domestic dominance, but being the ambitious coach he is, he will not be totally satisfied with that. A club of Celtic’s stature gives him a platform to perform in Europe.
Hopefully at CL level.
Quite an incentive.

He is solely responsible for improving the Club profile in an untapped foreign market. The financial benefits are significant.
As are the onward sale values of well scouted, competitively purchased players.

If we have him for 3/4 seasons we will go from strength to strength.

DannyMac23

In other news

Barry Ferguson has resigned from his position of Alloa manager due to his own high standards.

I kid you not.

He is going to take time out and just be a fan.

Not a fan of Alloa or Kelty Hearts.

Would be open to a return at Rangers now Sevco does not care what level it’s at.

Ball boy next Glasgow Derby?🦧💩

DannyMac23

CFC

👍

It’s a great fit for the club manager and support and if we can retain Anges services for 3 to 4 years I agree we will go from strength to strength. There are reasons why we are in the Europa Conference league this season, the rebuild being the most obvious..Ange has bought some gems and has expressed further interest in the Asian market and I am confident our team will continue on an upward curve. If we can win the league and perform in the champions league then it will heighten our teams and Anges profile.

I reckon Ange is a different character to our recent managers and is very much his own man and is resolute in his thinking beliefs and actions and appears a man of principles.

I dont trust the board.

Your final comment won’t have many dissenting on here.
The craven Board are the main obstacle to success and ambition.
However, Ange has been supported in both windows to date. Hopefully this continues.

Some fine tuning and sensible turnover in key positions in the summer should see us with a more complete squad ready for next season.

BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS

CFC,DANNYMAC23

To be fair-at the risk of sounding like a happyclapper-AP has been supported in the transfer market. That is obviously down to the departure of Lawwell, the appointment of DMcK. Rumours that the departure of the latter were because of Juranovic’s signing won’t go away,it seems that others on the board were not impressed by that one.

However,we will never know. And if we look at the subsequent window just gone, that support from Michael Nicholson has continued. One swallow doesn’t make a summer, but the hope is that the thinking from above has changed. Events to date suggest that to be the case. We can only pray that it continues.

DannyMac23

CFC

Agree.

Ange has brought energy and conviction to our play and no manager can alter every position in two transfer windows albeit he has had a damn good try.If supported he will get there as I have intimated in previous posts he is really just at the start of his project.I was not intentionally being negative in terms of we will lose our manager in my earlier post as we know its inevitable I maybe did not accentuate whether he would be allowed to see his vision through.

BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS

DANNYMAC23,CFC

Who knows,he might like it here. We only had four managers in our first ninety years, maybe it’s time for a medium to long term stay. If the man lets the board know that he is happy, but that is dependent on continued support,he can stay long enough to build a legacy and a legend.

I think he knows that he will be a name to be mentioned in maybe the summer or a year from now when certain teams down south and elsewhere are looking at replacement managers, but he is clearly a very astute fella. He will know the reasons why those positions are available, and that they have a habit of being short term.

AP might just be the man who gives us a long term plan, and his own tenure is crucial to that.

Anyway,back to work…

DannyMac23

BMCUWP

Quick look at incomings and outgoings Ange has been backed bringing in 17 players for just under 23 million if what I am looking at is correct. The outgoings were in excess of that but previously we would never have seen such investment in 2 windows under a new manager.Hopefully it continues.A lot has been said of the necessity for Sevco to get the 30 to 40 million that the Champions League affords the participants but it would obviously be very welcome in our coffers to.Speculating to accumulate?

CFC

And what an incentive to stay and build participation in the CL would be.

DannyMac23

BMCUWP

Sorry mate you were posting as I was taking ages to post mine,I hope you are right and I would love it if Ange was here long term.He talks so well about the club, his intentions and aspirations.

We can but hope and keep faith in the hoops.

DannyMac23

CFC

Like you said earlier the foundations are there to take Celtic into the CL and progress from there. In tandem it will enhance both Celtic and Ange’s reputation in Europe.
