Ronseal
Morning,all.
I described last night’s performance as being solid but uninspiring. And it was all of that. Our defence was solid, featuring probably the best four players on the pitch, while the rest were by and large uninspiring.
Certainly it is unlikely to feature in many conversation pieces between Celtic supporting friends in a few years Or even a few weeks. But is that really a fair assessment,I wonder? Well, looking at the match itself,it is hard to draw a different conclusion. We were playing a side who have just lost their inspiring young manager, and who have struggled since as a result. Far from pushing for an unlikely place in Europe,or even just The Top Six,they are now hoping to turn things around quickly before they get sucked into a relegation battle. And for periods,we struggled against them. In fact, two of our players had to “take one for the team” after typically woeful corners when St Mirren broke upfield.
Our midfield once again looked disjointed while our forwards continued to misfire. Well, they would have done if they had got that far-I think that of the three of them, only Abada got a shot away all night. And that led to a straightforward save. But there were goals in us from elsewhere, with CCV stepping up to head home a Jota free kick ten minutes before the break.
Aye,a goal from a setpiece-I was shocked,I tell ye!
Hatate,Abada and O’Riley were hooked halfway through the second half, with Biton allowing CalMac to move forward,Big Tam and Jamesie looking to rediscover their form. Only one of those ploys really paid dividends on the night, when CalMac rattled the second one in from the edge of the box. Bit of nostalgia there then…
So to my description of the performance. Was it true? An accurate reflection? Yes,I think it was. But was it entirely fair, was I missing something? Well,we were vastly improved on most of our performances in the past three weeks or so. But nowhere near the quality of say, three months ago. But after those recent performances, maybe what we really needed was a Ronseal does-what-it-says-on-the-tin type of solid performance that we saw. Additionally, while so many of our players failed to sparkle-none of them failed to turn up!
For most of the game, most of our players were just that percentage point short of doing what they were trying to do. So they kept trying to do it! Our subs when they came on were mainly like for like, rather than tactical,so AP was happy enough with what he saw,but he just wanted to be happier and to see if fresh legs could find the magic key on the night.
And most important of all,and certainly not to be overlooked,is that we won? Continuing our unbeaten form in the league. Isn’t that what champions do?

BMCUW, another 9 of that type of uninspiring 2-0 victories and we will win the league by at least 9 points, I’d take that for sure, especially this Sunday. 👍
I’d take a dodgy VAR-less penalty every game to win the League! This is the serious end of the business and we’re three points in front with a relatively comfortable goal difference. If you’re no happy this morning, well, what can I tell you…
Bobby
Aye, not all hitting the heights but a noticeable improvement all ’round last nite. Maeda deserves a medal for running non-stop but needed more/better service Tbf – thought Hatate looked tired but had one beautiful move on their left when some more composure would have finished a great bit of fitba.
CBB + 9 points sounds absolutely wonderful buddy and as you say Sunday is everything we should focus on – was it Belmont Brian said no more midweek games? We can prepare properly for every game now ( internationals aside)
McCaff – Happy House – unlike the Big Hoose 😇
Bit harsh. We kept on playing football against a 5-4-1 which was actually just ten behind it. Difficult to thread passes from Starfelt and CCV when everyone in the park is in front of you. Hatate found it most difficult and the angst of the crowd didn’t help. Maeda was feeding off half scraps but forced the constantly time wasting ( even when losing !) Alnwick to kick high which we defended well. Always difficult to make the breakthrough first half when teams have more energy so the substitutes can sometimes have more room. And so it proved. Bit nervous as you say but we deserved that.
Morning SteveNaive…had just finished reading your Brian Wilson comment on ETims before I came back on here…
a simple “Fuck Off, Brian!” would have worked! 🤣🤣🤣
Good morning, friends. Bobby – a good description of our first goal… apart from the fact that it was a volley…… and it was in the 2nd half 😁
SES…I’m happy here, too! Although need to get to work soon or the missus will dock me this week!!
I clocked that too, Jobo but gave the elderly BMCUWP the benefit of the doubt as his eyesight and hearing are obviously on the wane!! 🤣🤣🤣
BMCUW
Being picky but Jota and Maeda both had shots on target.
Alnwick made a Hollywood save from the former and Maeda’s effort was a weak but potentially spectacular mid air hooked shot straight at the keeper.
I thought both contributed against a defiant defensive line.
And would Calmac have been in that scoring position if the tactical change hadn’t been made?
Play him upfield every time.

CFC, re Calmac, surely after watching Hatate misfiring so badly recently Ange must be considering playing our Captain further up the field on Sunday. It will also get one of our defensive midfielders off the bench.
COLOURBLINDBHOY
Damn,I meant to point that out! And that every round of games that goes by with us maintaining our lead, well, you do the maths!
Don’t ask the huns to do that though. Every answer to a question is 1690. Which may or may not be the number of debenture holders who lost their expensive seats in a certain liquidation, but yet insist it never happened.
One thing is for sure-there are more than 1690 hun shares in circulation. Enough,if used as wallpaper,to carpet the globe. A warped realisation of Minty’s dream of making them global!

No more midweek games means that I won’t have to do a matchday reflection on snatched snippets while at work-or,like today, forgetting to post the damn thing!

The article made it clear that I was happy to see CalMac further forward. I’ve been pushing for the last couple of years for him to be played in his best role.
He is fine as the hold, always available. But he isn’t a Makalele or even a Neil Lennon,it is not a fit for him. He can’t read the game like they could, can’t miraculously be “right there” like they were can’t tackle like they could!
A willingness to help out when needed doesn’t make that position his. We all know his position in the team. Left side mid, starting and finishing moves. Play him where he can show his ability to its best effect.
A big game coming up against our bogey team at our bogey ground on Sunday but how much of a bogey are we looking at?
If we want a sensational headline, we haven’t won a league game at the Tony Macaroni Stadium since 25th March 2006. Was it even called the Tony Macaroni Stadium back then?
We did win there again in 2007 in a Scottish Cup tie.
Livi were relegated (demoted) and returned to the top flight in season 18/19 and our record since then has not been great so ending the run on Sunday will be very welcome.
Season 18/19
We played them 3 times, twice at home and once away.
Livi 0 Celtic 0
Season 19/20
We played them 3 times, once at home and twice away.
Livi 2 Celtic 0
Livi 2 Celtic 2
Season 20/21
We played them 4 times, thankfully 3 times at home and once away.
Livi 2 Celtic 2
Season 21/22
So far we have played them twice, once at home and once away.
Livi 1 Celtic 0
It’s worth noting in that period we have also had 3 awful 0-0 home draws against a team we should surely be beating in a regular basis?

Aye,we have a rubbish record against them-though for a lot of those 16 years they were in a different division. I don’t believe in jinxes or hoodoo clubs,or having the Indian sign over another. Lot of crap.
We will be the better team going into the game,as we have been every time since 2006-and all those times before that. Man up,expect the hard and physical approach-and deal with it!-and those points are there for the taking.
Fail to take them,I don’t want any talk of those jinxes or hoodoos, because it’s a load of nonsense. It will be because on the day,we failed to man up to the hard and physical approach-and deal with it!-and lost those points are there for the taking.
But given those stats,I wish I could be more confident…
I thought we played quite well first 20 minutes, then ran out of ideas. Second half subs made an impact for another 15-20 minutes. But glad we scored when we did because we were back to Lennonball.
Spare a thought for the new bhoys, playing consistently against 10 defenders will be a new experience for them. You certainly don’t find a league in the world like it where 80% of the teams use those tactics😵
My highlight last night was CCV’s Gerd Mueller style volley to put as ahead.
Alynwick in goal showed what he learned at Ibrox by immediately screaming for an imaginary foul.
Kudos to JF last night who showed what he is capable of.
Too much emphasis on going wide and hopeful crosses but our midfield set up is causing this.
We need at least one central mid to penetrate last third and disrupts opponents defensive set.
At Calmac’s goal it was Jota’s central run that caused them confusion.
We miss Turnbull’s ability to shoot from distance and his creative through balls.
Maeda’s first touch needs to improve but with Turnbull’s creativity he will have better to work with.
FAN
Aye,I thought he finished it like a born striker!
CCV has a similar physique to Der Bomber-but about twice the size. How times have changed in the fifty or so years since he was scoring a goal a game, just like Eusebio and others. Apparently the new laws on kicking lumps out of attackers has made their life easier, allowed them to show their ability and their prowess.
So how much a Muller,a Eusebio,a Puskas now?
On the latter,at a small soirée of about ten people in Clydebank nine months ago, three of the attendees were at the famous 1960 European Cup Final. 7-3 to Real Madrid, against Eintracht Frankfurt who had scored TWELVE against their opponents n the semi final.
And all three were at another famous game at the same venue three years earlier. Not as many goals though-only 7-1 that day.
Lucky basterts…

Those Livi stats are not very good!!

DT will have a part to play when he returns- it’s a squad game.
But I doubt he will be a regular starter.
See Calmac and Reo ahead of him in the current pecking order.
Absolutely delighted with the 3pts from last night.
I’m not really big on performances at this time of year. I’ll take 9 1-0 wins and suffer the nerves.
Just get over the line, in whatever way we can.
Remember, the history books concentrate on results, not performances.
Having said that …
Hoping Ange can find a better MF balance, by finding Callum a place further forward.
And if you can, drive away on the coach while wee Greg is in the lavvy! 😜
Turnbull, Kyogo, GMak & Jullien. Not a bad quartet to add.
Several posters have been saying on here for a few years that Calmac should play further forward. There’s goals in him! He scored 13 goals in a curtailed season 2019/20. Of course Broony was there which allowed him to move forward now and again.
CFC
Turnbull offers far more than the others in a creative sense as his vastly superior stats in chances created, goals and assists prove.
Baffling to me that he would be behind any other Celtic midfielder?
Certainly will be behind Calmac on left side and Matt on right.
He isn’t a def mid so vying with Reo and Tam for game time.
But it’s a squad game so he will get his chance.
Don’t know about Ronseal, but you do need to keep a defibrillator handy cos…
“My heart goes Boom, Boom, Boom, my heart goes Boom, Boom, Boom”, whenever Celtic play.
JIMTHETIM going for 54. The latest exponent of the Spanish Inquisition. 😉 Hola!
Nicholson is clearly Dicky Mints,(Peter Lawwell’s) love child. I still remember him claiming that Celtic would lose £10.00 million GBP per annum when the Huns died, another fib. Because it is well known that Celtic would have a clear pathway into the CL Qualifiers, when they were gone, that alone would more than pay for any missing monies. When that sunk in, the Celtic share price rose. The other SPL clubs would have lost out, from their disgusting travelling support but even then that would have been much less than £1.00 million pounds. Desmond’s meeting Murray at Dunbarney in 2002, proves their collaboration and copulation, Lawwells conversations with Martin Bain in 2011, who burnt his fingers because of the heat coming from the office shredder and then the coup de gras, retaining the “OF” trademark means that they are still getting their fix from keeping us shackled to them. Though we have to remember which board it was that allowed Torbett and his other disgusting friends to besmirch our beloved club. The support deserves much, much better than them… # Take The Shackles Off.
CFC
Why?
Season 21/22
Calmac has 3 goals 4 assists in 41 games.
David Turnbull has 9 goals and 7 assists in 34 games.
Rogic has 5 goals and 10 assists in 39 games.
Hatate 3 goals 2 assists in 11 games.
On Sunday after Hibs game i mentioned watching Hibs a few times under Maloney and said i never feared them scoring against us as he is just another possession obsessed coach whose team poses little threat.
Lots of neat passing in non productive areas of the field.
So no surprise that their game against bottom club Dundee was another 0-0 draw yesterday.
A fair summation of last nights game 👍

Calmac hasn’t been playing in a forward role, an unfair comparison.
Tam has 4 fewer goals but 3 more assists.
If you extrapolate Reo’s contribution so far he is on a par.
I’m not dissing DT just indicating in my view he will not walk into the position Calmac will play in when we sort out def mid.
Leaving him to vie with the other two.

I include myself in the following. Football fans are a fickle bunch. Pre season, with disappoint over the non arrival of the chosen manager, into early season losses, I never dreamed we could be competitive never mind three points ahead. Massive credit is due to the manager for, what has been, a remarkable turn around.
Then why do I feel disappointed and, more often, frustrated with performances?
After deep thought, as deep as I can manage, I think it is due to expectations. When we learned who Ange was and what his purported playing style was, expectations soared. All action, free scoring, attacking football! A perfect fit for Celtic.
Yes, this team is capable of it, but what happened to it? Sevco and M’Well were the highlights. I, at least, see little of Ange’s supposed style in current performances. I see a tired, very nervous group of players who may be starting to doubt the manager.
The inverted FBs, force the two wingers wide. Both have the potential to score but not from the wings. Neither FB is adept at creating something in the final third. So we have a major flaw. Taylor will never master his role in the final third. So playing Jota wide is a waste of his talent. Ditto, to a lesser extent, for Abada. Bodo loved the way we played our FBs and wingers. Difficult to say whether they beat us, or if we beat ourselves!
Playing Jota, Abada extremely wide means they have two options, either cut diagonally across two lines of defence, or cross the ball into the centre where tall CBs head the ball away from Maeda or GG.
Further, playing O’Riley on the right is causing confusion. Both he and Abada get in each other’s road…reducing their effectiveness. Get O’Riley over to the left, drop Hatate, and move Calmac into the slot occupied by the ex-MK Don. Hatate needs a rest by the look of him, but he is a gem.
But, maybe, all of these suggestions is just sawing sawdust. Maybe the 433 formation is the problem. Or, maybe my biases are simply showing…..I like to see two up front.

Frank Connor RIP
we are not playing as badly as some are saying IMO, sure we are not as fluid as we were a few weeks ago, but still dominating play and getting forward, even the best teams go through sticky spells and still win matches, i watched the huns game this morning, they are absolutely brutal BTW. You can feel nervousness from the stands now,i think that’s from the incredible achievement that is in front of us now, and we don’t want to throw it away, Keep the Faith
Nick Walsh will be the referee in charge of Livingston vs Celtic in the Scottish Premiership this Sunday.
bada bing, got a shock when you posted about Frank Connor. The only Frank Connor I know is the SFA Linesman who is only about 40 years old. I cant remember the Frank who has died, ex Celt aged 86. RIP.
btw the Frank that I know is the linesman who flagged the 2 Morelos’ goals offside on Sunday!

I agree. We are not as fluent or showing cavalier flair recently but our goals return since Feb 2nd has been 3,4,3,3,0,2. Averaging 2.5.
A terrific return.
In those games we could have won by more , some great goalkeeping and stubborn defence have thwarted us- egMcGregor saved them a mauling, Macey was MoM for Hibs.
I’ve been saying for months the Huns are a one dimensional team with a defensively minded coach who is limited in the squad depth available to him. I am thankful Gerrard took Beale with him in November.
Accentuate the Positives.
Sorry to hear of the passing of Frank Connor 🙏🏻
I had the privilege of his company on a few occasions and knew his family as he lived local to myself in Lanarkshire.

As far as the Celts go, normally I am a win with quality kinda guy. For the remaining fixtures, like CBB, I will take a hoatchy 1-0 victory every time, if it helps us win the league. Three seasons in particular, come to mind if discussing nail-biting run-ins. 1978-79, 1985-86 and of course 1997-98. This season could be right up there with these seasons. Here’s hoping G-Mak is fit for Sunday. This will be a game for warriors…and our Greek striker is certainly that.

Frank Connor R.I.P indeed. From memory, Big Frank was the assistant manager under Davie Hay, and possibbly played some role in Cesar’s first spell as manager. I also remember that he was a bit of a character. The man’s swearing vocabulary was legendary, and he did not suffer fools gladly.
Prestonpans bhoys from last night
I haven’t paid the TV licence fee for many years. Firstly, the quality of the BBC is piss-poor on so many levels. Here’s the thing though. Non payment of the fee is not a criminal offence in Scotland. It is not even a Civil offence. Once I stopped paying, I was receiving all sorts of threatening letters from the Darlington based office. I ignored them. After that comes the “Our inspectors will be visiting your home on such and such a date.” These people, if they even exist, have no legal right to force entry to any property in Scotland. Over the years, the letters from Darlington have become fewer and fewer. I think they now realise that I am a bit of a stubborn fecker, and that they are on to plumbs, as the saying goes. Lately, instead of binning their letters, I have taken to returning their letters to Darlington, with an attached note. In these communications, I point out that their Scottish head office at Pacific Quay is institutionally Racist, Sectarian and anti-Celtic, and that I have no wish to fund this farce, now or in the future. Strangely enough, any correspondence to my address has ceased, at least since one year ago, when I complained about BBC Scotland ingnoring the biggest news story in Glasgow for years, to whit, the Huns ‘celebratory’ riots in George Square and elsewhere, last Spring. They obviously do not love me anymore. 😀
Hail Hail.
Bawheid 12.02 .First paragraph sums me up. I can do without the stress. But, it’s the Celtic. 😁

It looks like the Bookies agree with you about there being no such thing as a jinx or a hoodoo club.
They have Livi at 7/1 and us at 1/3 for Sunday and I’ve always been told you seldom see a poor Bookie.
Goodwillie banned from entering Clyde’s stadium
As an addendum to my previous post re non-payment of the TV licence. Initially anyone taking this action, will receive a letter from your local Sheriff officers’ office. This letter will threaten all sorts of consequences in the event of continued non-payment. Again, ignore any and all letters from this department. It is all bluster. These officers, like the TV licence enforcement officers, will hope to wear a person down, by making increasingly threatening demands. These letters will eventually stop.
Hail Hail
McCaff,
It had crossed my mind and would have suited the moment but thought it needed something more pithy which he would remember.
IMO David Turnbull will walk into the team when match fit,him and Cal Mac first two on the team sheet(midfield).
Hatate is off the boil and making too many mistakes needs a rest.
We are not as bad as some fans think but we have to make better decisions when at the 18 yard box.
MAGUA, Glad you posted that addendum I was about to post a welcome to MAG. Thought it was a new poster! 🙂
Energy and movement allied to a high press is the key for Ange. I think a couple of recruits in the summer, a decent pre-season for the whole squad and we will be more than able to play AngeBall more readily and more comfortably next season. I’d go as far as to say we’re looking good for the Sydney SuperCup as an early Christmas pressie…🤣😂🤣
