A Good Start

Morning,all.

Celtic chose to celebrate the first anniversary of AP’s tenure as manager yesterday by announcing the official signing of Cameron Carter-Vickers,aka CCV. Or CV,as they rather cleverly termed him in a “CV update”. I know, hardly a work of genius, but I’m a sucker for wordplay…

Just to remind you all,CCV joined us as we were at a low ebb. The summer window,2021,was drawing to a close with us having only nine points from six games played. We had lost all three away games, and despite the fact that we could call ourselves unfortunate in two of them, the facts are the facts.

Did we look any better than in the previous season? Well,performance-wise yes,but results wise was a big fat no. That’s not to say that CCV was a panic “buy” but there was little on his ,erm,CV to suggest that we had our defensive rock all lined up to star for us,and to put some steel into that defence. It is all too easy to forget about our early season horror shows when we look at the rest of the season with such fondness, but signing a player who had spent the last four years out on loan to SIX lower division clubs, and who had played little over 100 games for those clubs, wasn’t the type of thing to make us think that the glory days were just around the corner. Especially as he was almost 24yo and still hadn’t made the breakthrough.

Still,we consoled ourselves with the likelihood that he would be an improvement on what we had. For,as those three away games had shown us,what we had wasn’t exactly filling us with confidence. It didn’t take us long to realise that we had a winner on our hands, someone who was going to grasp by the throat this chance at the big time, someone who wasn’t likely to pass this up.

Someone,in fact, who would turn around our goals lost per game from .83 in the first six to .53 in the next 32. Someone indeed who would lay his body on the line time and again to protect his goal as we went those remaining 32 games of the season unbeaten-even chipping in with some very important goals as well.

I am delighted at his signing, just as I was with the official confirmation that Daizen Maeda was joining on a permanent basis. I hope,as we all do,that they stick around for a good few years, successful years with us as they strike terror into opponents all over the pitch. And with the transfer window in Scotland officially opening yesterday,we can probably look forward to a few more happy days, hopefully beginning with the confirmation of Jota on a permanent basis.

All this early business has all the hallmarks of a well run club, one which is working to a plan laid out in advance, rather than the hastily contrived deals flung together in the last few hours of an eighty day window,as we have become all too familiar with over the last how many years. It’s the future,I tell ye!

Well said Bobby M.
Good, positive article to begin the weekend with.
Apparently CCV is now the highest paid player at Celtic.
Pleasantly surprised with the new approach the club seems have adopted.
Long may it continue.
HH. 🏆🍀

BMCUWPS & 16 Roads…

Yes, a refreshing new approach indeed.

The salary cap was yet another self inflicted restriction

The delay in signing and never ending negotiations a huge burden

Hopefully we are thinking of value not price

Strategy not ego

Solid football management and not corporate and commercial woo-hoo.

Hail Hail

If CCV is the highest paid player at the club if I were Jota I’d want parity.
Hopefully the CEO has the clout and resources to get further business done.

Spot on with the positivity in the article. It’s not so much who we have signed-though MAEDA and CCV were excellent for us last season-it’s the fact that the signings have been made at all. None of the previous tosh about wage structure,or player had better offers from elsewhere, heart wasn’t in it,etc.

Ange wanted these players, and the board had seen that they were worth the outlay. Is this a sea change in how the board approaches these things,an eventual realisation that there is a cold hard reality out there in the footballing world?

Time will tell, but as I’ve said,we have made a right good start.

CFC

Hopefully,we won’t be too difficult to deal with in that respect. Jota is still only 22yo and has plenty of time to rebuild his reputation with us after a few lost years.

Sol Kitts

Ange starting to assemble his own coaching staff? Harry Kewell joins as 1st team coach, possibly replacing Gavin Strachan?

Leggy

Morning all,

Good positive article Bobby and fingers crossed, hopefully more signings heading our way.

I see the outside of Celtic Park is getting a makeover but I would also definitely like to see an upgrade inside the Stadium, and in particular the Main Stand.

The Catering is a joke and the toilet conditions are, shall I say Shite !!!!!!!

Throw in the “Crappy” Wi-Fi and it really is a very poor show.

With oodles of Champions League cash heading our way, this is the perfect time to start upgrading the Stadium,

You know it makes sense so let’s do it Celtic !!!!!!!!!

Not holding my breath to be honest.

Anyway, enjoy your weekend folks.

Jewell was a magnificent player at Leeds. At Liverpool, not so much.

Btw,IIRC he is married to a former soap actress. Let’s hope she doesn’t milk it like Helen Flanagan did.

There is a short extract of a Kewell interview doing the rounds. He seems the straight talking type.
Wonder how that will play out behind the scenes.

Prestonpans bhoys,

Enjoy the Lake District and the pubs. 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺

PB…the rainy, slightly chilly weather in the Royal Burgh this morning is reminiscent of the Lakes! I hope it’s better in the Lakes, although experience tells me it’ll no be. Just be careful a bit of soakin’ wet Jubbly buntin’ disnae fa’ on yer heid in a beer garden!! 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧😁😁😁

Just had the dressing changed on my hand, sent BMCUWP a picture of the wound. I think it put him off his Guinness (not bloody likely-ed). Lump’s away for analysis so don’t know any more yet, although I’m confident all will be well as the consultant said 90% turn out benign.

Don’t tell the Huns about the crappy Wi-Fi at Celtic Park, they’ll be looking to drink it.

Dunno about putting me off my Guinness, but it will definitely put you off your stroke…

Just to be clear Connor Goldson was not drinking bog water at the service station.😱

Don’t know about any supporters of Old Firm FC, bog was full though😵

AFTERNOON ALL and JIM, long time no speak jim ,at least 2 hours ago😎 ok why mention what wages CCV is on, listen if jim and myself were working for stanton burrel and edwards transport and haulage, if jim done billericay basildon portsmouth and southampton, and I done hamilton greenock dundee aberdeen and peterhead and then the next week we swapped, and I found out jim was getting paid more than me or vice versa id be well peeved,,what im saying is it could lead to unrest in the dressing room another true story,👍

A thing of beauty

Great to see CCV has signed. He did well for us last season and if he wants to be here, I’m happy to have him. Still need a left sided centre half though😂😂
BP,
I don’t have the time to read back but a poster pointed out the other day that having parity in wages is fantasy and does not fly in any other work place. Football is no different. If you and Jim are driving the trucks but you can do it quicker and better or you have been poached from the Real Madrid of truck companies you bet your life you’d be expecting more than Jim. All truck drivers are not created equal BP and neither are footballers.
Sol,
Strange about Kewell. I’ve not seen any quotes from Ange so assume it’s not official yet. I’m wondering if big JK may feel it’s time to strike out on his own and Dundee Utd may have come calling.

The achievements of Tam Courts last year deserve to be recognised, especially after the previous season under Micky Mellon. I wish him well,of course, but is that job in Croatia a fit,or even the best he is likely to be offered in the near future?

I’m not so sure,so I’ll just hope to be wrong. It’s a Saturday,so I have a long history for that!

McCaff

A wee 5 minute read from Jonathan Wilson. Now, had he taken this subject more seriously he could have taken it a touch further and shown that pursuing success in the transfer market, to the expense of your rivals and to enhance your ego as a major player, a la SDM, could have much more serious repercussions than just writing off your losses!

It’s an excellent article, indeed. Takes me back to the explosion of £1m+ players after the groundbreaking barrier was broken by Clough and Trevor Francis. Took a while for any of them to prove a success,no matter the club.

ATOB, not going to argue with you,.hope you are well👍

SOL KITTS you will be ok buddy 👍 a true story, sol kitts used to sell washing powder in ardrossan market, he used to buy OMO which was the cheapest of the cheap, and fill the TIDE and DAZ boxes with the omo ,and then seal it back up again ,and charge the customers for the tide and daz, no flies on our sol,🤩🤩

Craig76

Regarding CCV wages, I have not seen 1 report of what he is or is not earning so where is the info coming from ?

Auldheid

Scotland getting the runaround v ROI.

We simply do not have enough players of the right quality.

Adam’s is ineffective and McGinn continues to miss good chances both of which ROI scored soon after.

Bigrailroadblues

BMCUWP 4.43. The last time you got anything right Moses was a wean. 😂

Only watched the second half of this game, Scotland really are dreadful!! Ireland have so much more desire and drive.

They made a version of the Fairy Liquid advert in Ardrossan, went like this…
Wee girl watching her mum washing the dishes; “Mummy, why are your hands so soft?“
Mum: “Because I’m 12.”
😂😂😎

fan

Clarke is a hopeless and one dimensional coach .
A fearty in coaching terms.
If he wants to retain his job he should check to see if Goldson has a Scottish ancestor or pick some youngster from Rangers Lowland league side.
Decent Republic sides of the past is understandable but the present one is mediocre.

fan

Auldheid
McGinn at least attempts to put himself in a scoring position.
He is not afraid to fail.
The other midfielders prefer to play safe and often hide.
Team is a reflection of our tepid and fearful coach.

big packy

SOL, knew you would have a comeback🤩🤩

McCaff

Fan…I saw zero dimensions in the game! The team looked like they’d never met each other before. No width, no strikers, no cohesion in the middle, centre backs clueless, subs too late! And Ireland, as you point out, are a poor version of previous Irish teams. They haven’t had a home win in three years FFS!!

big packy

I went to ardrossan market once and it was open, never went in 🤩now maybole market ,now we are talking🤩

MCAFF ffs this is scotland we are talking about ,absolute rubbish, try living down here and getting the pish ripped out of you everytime scotland play,.fecking embarrassing hope you are well,H.H.

As always enjoyed the leader,

Hopefully we are backing the manager in terms of who he wants to bring in to bolster the background staff and the playing personnel.

Ange has proven that he can win the league with inherited coaching staff.Going forward his outlook may be to surround himself with individuals that he knows their capabilities and can trust them to build the team with his principles and disciplines.

Having won the league I reckon the interest in our coaches in Kennedy and Strachan are two fold one they have augmented their CV and two Ange has said thanks guys I am settled now and if you want to further your careers you can move on.Might be wrong.

CCV staying is a statement of intent.I think he now realises the magnitude of our club. The adulation a player receives at Celtic can be the reason for staying save the fact you are playing champions league football.

Frazer Forster I know negates that narrative. Each to their own.Money over medals. We all have a family to support.

I think Maeda will only get better, the guy is a motor bike and if Kyogo has an injury free season they can be prolific.

Juranovic was my player of the year for last season,

Great footballing mind ,confident in his own ability ,will to win and always a team player.

A summation of the majority of our players last season.

That’s why we are champions.
