I’m not sure if Gordon is still away. In the event he is, and misses the deadline, ( he enters every year) he will be allocated the favourite in the opening race ( 1pm)

Obviously if he appears , that selection will be replaced by his own)

I Will try:

June 25, 2022 9:53 am

You most definitely know plenty about football as evidenced by your views on the matches you watch. I’m sure that view would be shared by many.

Re horses, none of us know enough about them to make loads of money. If we did we’d be lying on a beach somewhere well away from the rat race we spend most of our lives competing in.

It should be easy. If you take a Handicap race . The job of the handicapper is to allocate weight to each horse based on its ability. His task is to try and get every horse in the race to cross the winning line at the same time. If you raced me on your bike, and I got on my chopper, you’d beat me by a long way. The next time we raced, the handicapper would strap a few weights to your back to assist me to close the gap on you. In theory, I’d finish closer to you .

Unfortunately it’s never so straightforward. Ground conditions a big part to play. A horse might be rated 85 after a few runs in fast ground, get weight allocated accordingly, then run on ground it’s more suited by where it’ll find a good few lbs improvement.

Distance another variable .

Of course , trainers may also hold back a horse in order to fool the handicapper, run below its best, keep getting a few lbs less to carry, and bingo, wins at a big price.

So I wouldn’t be concerned about your lack of knowledge! Pick a handicap race every Saturday, and in theory, your horse should have some sort of a chance if the handicapper has done his job well.

Put 2 football teams of equal ability on the pitch in an SPL game, say Celtic v Sevco, and chances are it might be a draw. The referee is like the handicapper and if he does his job then ……..ah fekk, forget it. It’s rigged!!

Yeah he’s a vg horse but on a 6 time losing streak. Certainly capable. I get the feeling 6f suits him better these days even though his winning has been done at 5f. It was his mark of 82 that attracted me today. He’s won off 89 and is only a 6 year old so he’s probably not regressive, just more about catching him when everything falls right for him.
Newcastle won’t be an issue and he’s drawn fine with horses around him. No doubt he’ll be doing his best work as they hit the 2f out mark, I’ll just need to hope he gets a clear run through and sees the 6f out.

I actually like strike red in the race too but hey ho it’s week 1 and Jim’s runner is 10/1, so I thought I’d try and get off to a flyer. 39 weeks to make up the arrears 😁

Best of luck everyone 🍀🍀

Enjoy your run Twisty and thanks again.

June 25, 2022 12:15 pm

Thx – but me calling it running is over egging it a bit at present. I was plodding today again but getting there. I’ve managed to lose over half a stone this week and will get quicker as the weight comes down.
I’m targeting a 25lb loss for now. If I make it, I’ll start my park running every Saturday again. I’m out the running habit now and I’m paying the price. Weight was up to 15st 3lb before I started this programme. Ridiculous.

June 25, 2022 12:22 pm

I’ll give the Naps a go…never picked a horse anywhere other than Grand National sweepstakes, I’ve got no clue but here goes
3.15 Newcastle Ghost Rider
Good luck all but especially me and ATOB the oldest virgins in horseracing! 🤭🤭🤭

June 25, 2022 12:33 pm

It’s 1-15pm but no worries.

As you’ve now officially entered you’ve fallen foul of the “ wrong time” rule . That’s a fine of £250 to be sent directly to me. I’ll send bank details.

June 25, 2022 12:36 pm

Hope you’re well on the mend and welcome. Nice to have you here.

Now I honestly know hee haw about horses and pretty much never bet them. But God loves a Trier so I’ll try to find a weather related nzp each week, starting today with Alright Sunshine in the 3.30 at Newcastle.

June 25, 2022 12:44 pm

Hahaha Twisty! Send me the details I’ll get it over right away! It’s a Mug’s Game right enough, this horseracing malarkey!! 😁😁

Join the club. 😁

Just watched 16 roads horse win me a few ££ and awaiting one other napsters fancy for a right few £. I won’t put the pressure on by saying whose!!

June 25, 2022 3:19 pm

You’re horse didn’t come under starters orders therefore it’s a non runner, meaning, you can choose another up until the end of play tonight.

June 25, 2022 4:08 pm

Twisty 3.15pm

Good luck …

lobbed a wee fiver on my “nap” and sometimes put a wee quid or two on number 10 just because it’s the wee yins birthday … am “working” in the room and she shouts “dad, number 10 just won that race” ….needless to say … not a penny on it 🙂

June 25, 2022 6:09 pm

Three out of four on my L/15 today. Guess which one let me down?

Clue-check my “nap”

June 25, 2022 6:49 pm

3 out of 4 should be a decent return … but as we know the 4th is the real winner …

All kidding aside … the naps competition is just too show us how bad we are at this game 🙂

June 25, 2022 8:25 pm

Evening all.
29 runners jumped off for the naps competition, and we started with a Super 6 . Yep, 6 napsters beat the bookies to get off to a winning start.

Star performer in week 1 was undoubtedly 16 ROADS who selected Shartash, which obliged at the handsome odds of 9/1. Tremendous start. Fabulous winner 16 Roads.

St Tams chipped in with the impressive 2 length winner Raatea, at a nice price of 11/2 to take 2nd spot.

A couple of bhoys share 3rd place, Weet Weet Weet and Jungle Gerry , both tipping 3/1 winner Trueshan, who impressed in conditions many felt wouldn’t be ideal.

Our other two winners were Lefty who gave 15/8 winner Sense of Duty which stormed home by over 4 lengths, and Mahe who got of the mark courtesy of the favourite in the opening race which was returned at evens.

Well done to all 6 winners .

Week 1 Standings.

16 Roads £10.00

St Tams. £6.50

Weet Weet Weet £4.00
Jungle Gerry £4.00

Lefty £2.88

Mahe £2.00

All other entrants on -£1.

Those are:

Bobby, Jimmy NP, VP, ATOB, BP, GFTB, Bada, Twisty, Jim, Charlinic, Gordon, Leggy, Chalmersbhoy, BRRB, Craig, Hashadenough, Raymac, TRM, DRM, Danny M, McCaff, Jobo, CCB.

As ever – if any of you spot an error please flag it up and I’ll adjust accordingly.

Good morning Twisty sorry I missed the start of the Naps Comp but count me in from next week

June 26, 2022 7:15 am

J, I’ll drop you in at minus £1.

To be honest although the deadline was set at 1pm yesterday, I was conscious there were a few regulars who I knew would be entering who hadn’t been around so I was either chasing them up with mails or texts, or allocating them a nag to ensure they got in. I should’ve spotted you were missing and done the same for you. I know you’ve entered every comp that’s ran on here for as long as I can remember so I’m sure nobody will complain about your late inclusion.

If anyone has an issue – take it up with Bobby 😁
