Cancel Culture

Morning,all.

There is probably no more middle-class a newspaper than The Daily Mail. And it is one of those papers which loves to lead a crusade. But only those which suit their right-wing agenda and which they believe will be warmly welcomed by their readership.

They must be doing something right-it is currently the biggest selling paper in the country. Even if few of us on here could offer a plausible reason as to why. You know, the sort of thing that any reasonable person would find, well, reasonable.

While they still haven’t stopped their offensive against the Sussexes,I couldn’t really give a rat’s arse about that one. It is their “War On Woke” and on “Cancel Culture” that pisses me off.

Though after the events of the last couple of days,I am beginning to see their point about cancel culture. Basterts have cancelled the weekend’s football, with heavy hints that teams should not play during the week either. Even those who are at home in European competitions!

(Strangely enough, the Loyalist Royalists have said that they WILL be playing their tie against Napoli. Presumably wishing to pay tribute to Her Maj by raking in enough money to pay what they owe her from practically every year this century, and many before. I hope her portrait turns her back on them!)

Yes,she only died on Thursday, but she is not being buried until 19 September. Next weekend would have been the time to cancel sporting events. Not this one,and not only because I’ll miss out on maybe my only chance to see us this season. Obviously I hope to see us more often, but I have to be realistic.

HM Government has made no such demand, basically saying that the nation should pay their respects, but carry on as normal. Except perhaps when the funeral is actually taking place. The hospitality and leisure industries have pretty much agreed with this. Pubs, shops, restaurants etc have little if any intention of closing for any time at all-the cost of living crisis is killing them as it is.

Racing in the UK has been cancelled today and yesterday-but will return on Sunday. The Third Test was postponed for a day,but returns later today. Same with the PGA golf championship at Wentworth-which is practically next door to Ascot and Windsor!

The football authorities in all the constituent nations of the UK have shut down till after the funeral, even though they haven’t actually announced their intentions for next weekend yet. Probably the only industry nationwide to do anything remotely of this nature.

Aye,well. For maybe the first time in my life,I agree with The Daily Mail. Get this Cancel Culture to f..k. And while we are at it,get football’s administrators to the same place.

Couldnae run a raffle, but they are entrusted with running the most popular sport in the country? Sod them.

I think football has been cancelled for the anniversary of Jock Stein’s death on the 10th of September , 1985.

Mihal

Football was cancelled in 1997 too , the weekend that Mother Theresa died……

Having zero interest in establishment members when they are alive, I certainly won’t be talking any notice of them as they pass on. That same establishment has my neighbours unable to pay their bills and feed their children!

Today I’ll be thinking of someone I do want to praise.

RIP big Jock

Good evening.

Fixtures now finalised and racing will now go ahead at Leopardstown tomorrow, AND, on Sunday, at Chepstow, The Curragh and Doncaster. ( assuming the royal cat doesn’t die on Saturday night resulting in Doncaster being cancelled) .

So for this weeks naps competition, please choose your selections from any of the Saturday or Sunday fixtures. Regardless of whether you choose from Saturday or Sunday, your nap MUST be posted before the first race on Saturday which is 1-30pm. Selections made after that time will be considered a loser.
Non runners can be replaced of course. Any non runners not replaced will be substituted with the favourite in the last race on Sunday, which is the 5-20pm at the Curragh.

Gl all.

I was only 14yo when Jock was fired-or stabbed in the back by a gleeful Desmond White. I was raging then, and still am.

Our greatest ever manager, probably the most important Celt ever-undone by the worst chairman in history. Which, bearing in mind the competition,is some achievement.

A cutting from the Dailly Mail, May 24, 2017. I treasure it and here is why.

Part of the furniture: A fist clenching Fallon leaps from the bench at the final whistle in Lisbon. A picture of unbridled joy.
A picture taken of big Jock and Sean Fallon standing side by side, putting the Celtic players through their paces in training, standing together like two brothers in arms, two men whose battle-scarred faces show their resilience and strength of character.

Stein and Fallon bonded together with one common cause, the success of Celtic FC. Sean’s eye for a player was common knowledge, he made the right call, his signings brought in a lot of talented players which helped Celtic to become the most successful club in Europe, we should never forget that, too often Sean’s dedication and closeness to big Jock should never be understated. Also, before big Jock and Sean made Celtic successful, a lot of the players were already at the club, for example, Bobby Murdoch was routinely subjected to some fuds jeers, some of the younger players too struggled to become settled, thanks to big Jock and his RH man Sean Fallon, they put an arm around players and gave them the confidence to succeed, this applied as much to the ‘Lions’ as well as the Quality Street Kids, I prefer that name rather than ‘Kelly’s Kids’.

Today as we remember big Jock, we also remember Sean Fallon, two giants, welded together for one common cause. Celtic FC.
Jock Stein RIP.

There is no cancel culture or woke, it’s the ( very ) right wing press owners squirrel. Can’t blame the Johnny foreigners in the EU, can always blame the ‘immigrants’ but never shed any light on the establishment. Sure some of them help run our club

Morning all,

Here’s a wee question for you all today ??

At this moment, who would take 3rd spot in our table and guarantee Euro football after Christmas !!!

Or who thinks, after a stirring performance against Real Madrid, and a fairly favourable group, we should aim higher and think bigger, ie Last 16 of Champions League ????

I’ll start, Euro footie in Europa League after Christmas for me as I don’t want to finish in the dreaded 4th ( Bombed out of Europe ) spot.

Morning all!
St Tam’s…a sad time for your wife and all your family. Condolences to you all and look after your missus, she needs you right now. RIP Margaret.

Leggy

I must add that I think Europa League is still our level and we could go far, like another team I know !!!!

Could get pumped in last 16 of CL if we made it.

HH 🍀🍀

Leggy…any advancement in Europe after this stage would be welcome but a 2nd place finish and a 4th for TRFC would be sweet!! 😁

GFTB

Leggy 11.55am

3rd place would be excellent progress for Ange

Still not ruled out 2nd yet

But if somebody gave me 3rd place and Euro fitba after Christmas I’d be over the moon, after these 6 matches the euro experience for this group of players will be massive and would set us up perfectly for knockout fitba

Cal, Reo & Matt were all excellent the first 45mins the other night and actually looked better than what the galaticos had on offer … this team is growing and we didn’t have a fully fit Kyogo

Still think we need at least a point on Wednesday to give us something to build on

3pts would be magic

CFC

Leggy

A last 16 place would represent incredible progress within a year. Should something so meteoric be welcomed?
My own feelings were that progress this year and next would be incremental- third spot a result this year, push on next.
However, assuming we are in the midst of a welcome strategy change in recruitment terms thanks to Ange, progress to the last 16 will hopefully see greater investment and our best hope of keeping Ange out of the lurch of mediocre EPL level teams!
His ambitions will be realisable at our club.

From Sport Bible.
Concern that tributes to the Queen may not have been universally respected, and the potential for global embarrassment if fans were disrespectful, was a factor in the decision to call off all football in the U.K. this weekend.

A planned march has been prevented from taking place by officers amid fears a “counter-protest” could cause disruption.

Members of the force were authorised to use the power under Section 12 of the Public Order Act 1986 to prevent the event from going ahead.

It is understood the procession is organised by Cairde na h’Éireann with an expected attendance of around 150 people.

A social media post announcing the event described it as a gathering to “pay tribute to the men and women of the International Brigades who fought against fascism and in defence of
democracy in Spain”.
Supporters were invited to assemble on Millroad Street from 10.30am on September 10.

The city’s chief superintendent Mark Sutherland said the decision, which was taken as a “last resort”, is in the interest of “public safety”.

The legislation grants a senior police officer powers to impose conditions on protests and marches and even prohibit it from entering any public place.

Glasgow chief superintendent Mark Sutherland added: “I have authorised officers to use powers under Section 12 of the Public Order Act 1986 to prevent this procession going ahead on the grounds of public safety and to minimise disruption to the local community.

“Police Scotland’s priority is always public safety and this decision was taken as a last resort after careful consideration of the potential impact of a planned counter-protest.

“Decisions about how to police protests require consideration of complex and often competing rights and issues.

“The guiding principles of policing protests are the safety of protestors, the public and police officers involved, preventing criminal behaviour or disorder and deescalating tensions.”

TRM…an abuse of statute by the polis. It’s more than likely that they do not have the manpower to corral or kettle 150 protestors today so have decided instead to pull a fast one straight out of the Fascist handbook the protestors were protesting against!

FRODSHAMBHOY, regarding your post last night, no ive not heard of that william shatner story, but i try to keep out of frodsham during the festive season the traffic is horrendous, still take my westies to castle park now and again, now here is another true story dont know how long you have lived in frodsham, but 30 years ago the bears paw in frodsham was THE place to go christmas and new years eve, everyone and i mean everyone drank outside on the pavement which as you will know was very wide, the inside of the pub was empty, dont think the cheshire police allow it now, but that is definitely a true story👍
