Lightning strikes twice?

Is it just me or does Ange also remind you of Wim the Tim a bit?
I love the idea of a foreigner with no connection finding himself at the helm, falling in love, delivering the goods, and receiving just adulations verging on mythical status.
Of course Ange has already lasted longer than Wim did at the club. It’s actually Wims misfortune that he was manager before the internet was in everyone’s hand, nowadays I like to think there would be a major backlash should a debut league winner not be well supported, if the Wim situation happened today the Timternet would be in serious meltdown.
With instant access to the club via email, Twitter, plus online cancellations, maybe the same situation would turn out different in modern times.
But then again, perhaps Wims one and done is a key part of his legend and mystique.
Both men are/were natural leaders, fully immersed in the beautiful game, and each strikes me as a fountain of knowledge.
Johan Cruyff stated Wim was one of the few people worth listening to regarding football, but I get the feeling after a couple of hours with Ange he would add another to the list.
They could both swap World Cup stories but from different viewpoints, the sidelines and the turf. You don’t get to a World Cup by accident, to grace football’s grandest stage takes dedication that’s to be admired, no matter which part you play.
They both share(d) a tendency to suffer no fools when it comes to media duty.
Ange has managed to turn the word “Mate” into a condescending dismissal whilst Wim had the gravitas and a non servitude attitude to also keep them on their guard.
Another quirk is the fact they each brought in their own type of striker to spearhead their attack, their own talisman if you will.
And somehow both get compared to each other because they are pretty similar in style.
One became a club legend and the other has the potential to.
Weirdly coincidental?
Both men collected league titles as players in their homeland, both men coached in Japan, and they each won the league and league cup in their debut year in the Celtic Park dugout.
From my vantage point, the beautiful game is/was a source of happiness and joy to each man, and deep inner conviction is/was the key to both their successes.
As you know, it’s not often Glasgow Celtic go down the foreign manager route, but we certainly haven’t done badly on those occasions we went abroad. I believe only one hasn’t won the league title on their debut season, quite impressive really.
Two of them have been standouts, one has passed away, one wows us today.
When it comes to very good foreign coaches and Celtic, lightning has literally struck twice.
Rest in peace Wim. You’ll Never Walk Alone.

Foreigners managing Celtic ? Do you mean non-Scottish ? Non-British ? Like Willie Maley, Liam Brady , Tony Mowbray, Matin O’Niell , John Barnes …..
Nah , that’s a difficult route to take. Where a manager was born has never made a difference.

Call me Gerry

Great leader, Mahe. 👏👏

(I’ve maybe only become a “regular” lurker the past couple of months, but I think it’s the first leader you’ve written in which I resonate with ALL if it’s content – 😉😁)

Morning all,

Where’s the Paracetamol !!!!!!!!!!!

Ma heid’s burstin 😱😱😱

Nakamura. ????

Yep, see you in the pub at 11 🍺🍺🍺

Morning all, well written leader Mahe. 👍

He may not have given us a league title, but he did give us Lubo, a more than fair trade.

Morning again,

Just like to say thanks for a great day out yesterday BelmontBrian 👏👏👏👏

Met lots of old friends ( You know who you are !! ) and some new friends, BMCUW, GFTB, Steve Naive, Blantyre Tim, Lennybhoy.

Sorry if I missed anyone, but it was a pleasure I can assure you 👏👏👏💚💚💚

Special mention also to the wee phone 😜😜😜

( Everyone there will know what I mean !!!!! )

HH 🍀🍀🍀

St Tams,

Sorry but forgot to mention you.

It was a pleasure meeting up.

Yeah the similarities resonate. Often wonder what might Wim have achieved in a second or third season – it was a great squad and a few wee tweaks could maybe have helped us take a huge step forward in Europe.

Wim obviously wins the footballer and not many could compare in that respect.

As managers – Wim bringing an end to their corrupt 9 will always have a special place in my heart. Ange building a team practically from scratch and playing more attacking fitba … is already up there. He’s maybe made a wee rod for his own back and the early signs are that he can use that in a positive way.

As ASWGL already mentioned Dr. Jo had the skills to take us to good places – unfortunately, it seems to me he became a victim of the stuff Wim had clearly foreseen. MAybe? Agree bringing Lubo to Paradise – and the accompanying story … and skills etc.. will ensure a special place in our hearts.

Wim – enjoy your deserved place in our hearts. YNWA

Seigrist, Ralston, CCV, Jenz, Bernabei, Abildgaard, McGregor, Turnbull, Haksabanovic, GG and Jota.

Great day yesterday, folks. Grateful thanks to BELMONTBRIAN and to all in attendance.

As has been mentioned,Dr Jo brought us Lubo, one of the great entertainers. He also brought us Big Mjallby, who was an absolute rock for us for years.

Inadvertently,he also brought us The Evil Genius of Chris Sutton! We got £6m for Viduka and used it to buy Sutton from Chelsea. What a deal that was!!!

That was some phone-I wouldn’t like to try to read a text message on it.

BB – thanks for yesterday.

It was great to see so many new faces and putting names to faces is always fun.

The SeSette was saying how shaking hands and looking into someone’s eyes can reveal so much more about them than any short, sharp ….or looong post ever could.

The Czech folk insist on making eye contact when clinking beer glasses – it’s actually a bit of a struggle to achieve that without spilling or even breaking the glass. They give Westeners a wee pass if you don’t do it the first time … then they explain to you why it’s so important . ” someone won’t look you in the eye is like them trying to hide their soul from you … maybe you won’t ever find out why … but be content that is their problem and not yours!”

So, maybe it’s a only a Central European or Slavic tradition …. you know what to do if you are meeting and toasting folk from there…or what not to do!

The other wee tip is never to pour the bottom of your last beer into a fresh one … no! No! NO!

Chairbhoy & GFTB … clink a glass sometime lads?!

Pivo Yo!

That was some device

Imagine a Sevvie trying to watch a goal on it … in September …☺️

The queue in London is nearly as long as the queue of people lining up to have a pop at us.

I’d go with that team for Sunday.
Looks strong enough to me. It’s what the squad is for.
With plenty on the bench, if needed.
I’d be inclined to take Calmac off at the earliest opportunity. Clarke will have him play three tough games v Ukraine twice and RoI

Leggy 8.17am

It was indeed a pleasure …

It’s a very small world when you realise the amount of people we have both worked with throughout our ole Revenue & Customs days 🙂

Cheers for the reminisce 👍

If you ever bump into JR or wee Gerry D the “rev I am Jolly” let them know we had a beer together … even the wee rev I am jolly will maybe raise a smile… when I mentioned his name yesterday the look on your face was the same as nearly every person that’s ever known the wee man … the unhappiest Celtic season ticket holder ever 🙂

CFC, i think Ange has done brilliant in assembling our squad.
We don’t seem to miss a beat when he does make changes.
Whatever he decides to do, it’s so important we keep our domestic run going.
Battling on so many fronts, we should see everyone in the squad get their fair share of game time.

Hope you’re good 👍

St tams

Great leader Mahe.

As has been said by a few already. Great day yesterday. A special thanks to BelmontBrian for organising and putting me safely into a taxi. You’re a gentleman 👍
Hope to meet up again with everyone soon.

Agree with that team – definitely agree on rating CalMac – folk might say it’s only been a game a week etc. but a tough schedule coming up. Imagine a fully charged Calmac playing in a freer role … wow!

Big Audio Dynamite

If you only read the Scottish press but didn’t look at the result, you would swear Sevco beat Napoli during the week
Apparently Gio wants more of the same today …eh?! 👀
Me too Gio!!!

SeS @ 9:21 am,

Indeed, almost gatecrashed yesterday as I had a quiet week but got my niece’s eighteenth today, so not possible – it will happen though.

Glad you ghuys had a ball yesterday

Have A Great One

Hail Hail

St tams

Leggy, it was great to meet yourself and all the other guys, I don’t want to list everyone, for fear of missing someone out.
I’ve already had a few paracetamol myself 🤣 head is thumping.

Honestly, I can’t read anymore about them today, that’s plenty!

Morning all.

Yesterdays gathering was exactly why I love Celtic, and Celtic supporters.

Brilliant catching up with old friends and even better, making new ones.

Special thanks to Paul Hughes and his staff at the Vulcan, fantastic service.

Looking forward to the next catch up, where ever that may be.

If you have not been able to attend any gatherings previously, I thoroughly recommend attending if you can, a good time is guaranteed.

Abildgaard could be the missing link!
Particularly as Guchi n JMcC are nowhere to be seen.

Ange has 23/25 he is happy with, he has no qualms mixing it up.
Can’t take any game lightly though. That sort of hubris can backfire with a vengeance. Can’t see him losing any sort of focus.

I’m very well thanks, home after a fantastic Gdańsk/ Warsaw trip. Met some great Celtic Bhoys. Only blight was return flight last night from Gdańsk had the misfortune to be sat beside a paralytic Jambos fan.

Put his over exuberance down to the fact they don’t get away much !

I watched their game on Wednesday night. I genuinely don’t see what they are getting excited about. If that is the height of their ambition,I’m all for it.

Chairbhoy – be really good to see you buddy and Happy 18th to your niece.

CFC – ouch! That’s a looong flight… 😅

Indeed, James Whale, do you remember him, the latest. TBH I thought the guy was dead but apparently not, still doing it at 71, do these guys not have a pension to live on??

Prestonpans bhoys, had a dance music show years ago? Jeez, I didn’t think it could get more ridiculous than Jeremy Kyle …I was wrong.

Should we take a look at your past Jeremy? 😉

You lads have made me really jealous about missing the Hoot, and reading about it from 3000 miles away!

On the other hand, I woke up withoot ma heid nippin’!😊

Sorry guys- it may be that 68 out of 70 have made their picks but it is still showing a lot of x’x meaning “not picked yet”- this just means I don’t know who the missing two are

Naughty Dundee United fans not observing the silence at bigotdome😱

P.B. 3.04.
Here’s the evidence, from Sevco T.V.

Prestonpans Bhoys
The narrative will be it’s Celtic fans that snuck in 😉 🤣, I read that there was booing at the wolves match as well, so that will be the Midlands based Celtic fans getting the blame

Hibs fans, too. Disrupting silence.

Prestonpans bhoys

Our fans would have to do something outrageous to out do the hibs support on that one!

Checked out a fotie of the Coatbridge hoot on the other channel.
Looks to me like a recidivist bunch of right Feniany troublemakers!😊

Broonie’s Fleetwood 1-0 up on Charlton at HT. If results stand, Fleetwood would be just outside playoff positions only on goal difference.
