Sober October begins

Secretly I’m actually delighted at how this months fixtures have panned out.

If given a choice for a fixture straight after an extended break it’s always a home game against lowly opponents, which happens to be exactly what the Tic have been handed.

I certainly expect a sobering affair for the few true Motherwell fans who attend today, fair play to them for travelling to witness what should be a defeat, that’s devotion for you.

They aren’t a very good side, and whilst we shall have jaded Internationals returning into the fold, our strength in depth should help overcome the ‘Well.

Whether or not Ange considers it important to put down a marker with a statement victory before the two sides meet in a Cup tie is unknown, but a win never hurts against a side you’re soon to face again.

The rest of the month is a mixed bag, we play away from Paradise Four times in the league and in the cups, with Three Champions League clashes, and the Two Edinburgh teams must be faced, who shall of course be looking to take advantage of our hectic playing schedule and leg sapping continental exploits.
There can be only One, sorry, couldn’t resist.

Hibs for example shall be rubbing their hands at the timing of the tie, straight after a home CL tie against Leipzig where you just know the crowd and those selected will give everything to get those most precious three points they so dearly need to progress out of the group.
Tired players, the support just gave their all days ago and might not be as vocal or as encouraging, especially should the worst occur against the Germans, Hibs should be rubbing their hands.
They’ve a few good players, an ambitious young manager, and shall prove a test.
As shall the Jambo’s away, and surely we all know by now Martindale’s Livvy are a total pain in the ass team up on that plastic pitch.

October is one tough month, the hard games just don’t stop and the squad shall be called upon, have no doubt.
Busy months are the reason we assembled such a big squad of big talent,,,those who wish to dethrone us look to very busy months such as this for dropped points and openings.

October might as well be called crunch month.
It offers the opportunity to sober up, figuratively and physically, everyone involved in this title race.
I’m on record stating I believe we lift Ange’s second title this season, and while it’s true the league isn’t won in October a deadly pace can be set then.
And the Bhoys have been setting the pace for quite some time now, I get the feeling they very much like it.

No team in the title hunt can afford to drop many points or have momentum affected.
An ‘uneasy’ month for the Bhoys opens the door to the Blues, and likewise a poor month across the city and a good one for the famous Glasgow Celtic, having most of their crunch European ties out of the way, would be very bad news for those seeking a battle to the finish line type of campaign.
An equal points scenario of course suits the team in the lead.
To put it simply, if there’s going to be a title race we need to drop league points this month.
If not now, when, considering Anges teams tend to really click in the second half?

Taking points off this team is a lot easier said than done but as we just found out it’s not impossible. Most Champions lose three or four games over the course, it’s much preferable to lose at convenient times, such as when the title has been secured and you’re playing out the remaining fixtures, or even lose one game every quarter of the season, rather than a string of bad results.

That’s what we must avoid during October, a poor run of results, the European hangover theory being proven true.
EVERYONE must fully step up.
Starting today.
Win this game and start the month off correctly no ifs, ands, or buts.
Head to Germany as a winning team, and a league leading one at that.
Do a number on Motherwell and then hit ze Germans with Ange-ball.

When it comes to the team I’m currently a glass half full type of guy, and I’m looking forward to my belief in the squad being shaken or vindicated.
This month is the sobering up month,,
If the squad and manager are as good as I believe and emerge from October with credit then it will sober those who wish for our title.
The opposite shall sober myself and many who felt we were proceeding to the title.

Welcome to sober October. I sincerely hope you enjoy it.

Welsh far too pedestrian. Turnbull poor when he got his chance, Cheatin Beaton couldn’t wait to get his free pint red card out.

Bullet dodged, time for an honest conversation about Hart and Juranovic as both are currently costing us more than they’re giving us.

Well apart from that stupid OG no sweat really but time for the club to call out these refs before someone gets hurt. Moreover no extra time first half despite two goals but five added on second half

Prestonpans bhoys, you will be a long time waiting for our club to call out the cheats, FFS some of our board are in the same masons ludge as some of them,,another true story

I have to comment on that game. A long wait for the return of football was bound to raise expectation beyond reasonable levels. So part of my disappointment is down to that. Yes, the ref’s performance was either incompetent or biased, most likely the latter. However, that does not excuse or explain the malaise that has descended on the team. Firstly, what has happened to Kyogo? He is right off the boil. He is mot in the game for long periods. Is it lack of supply? Nope, it is not just that. He is missing chances he would have buried last season. Also last season he made some of goals by his own play. That has almost completely gone. Without GG there is little goal threat coming from the air. Yes I know O’Riley’s header resulted in the first goal but lack of height favours Scottish defences. Against Shaktar, St Mirren and now M’Well we had difficulty scoring. It is a serious problem that could be fatal to league hopes.

The second malaise is in the centre of defence where each of Jenz and Welsh are reasonable CBs but the pairing does not work. Both can be ragdolled by physical opponents. CCV is urgently required, as is, to a lesser extent, Starfelt. CCV plus one other is the best way forward.

Lunch is ready so I shall say more later.

Munch, munch…..

FF was an exceptional keeper. In his prime.
We have a very good one in JH.
He has brought stability and confidence to our back line and more than that- is a faither figure to our young team. That much is obvious.
Respect is never easily earned and he deserves ours.
No witch-hunts/ or escaped goat slaughterings from me.
Mistakes at the top level happen.

Btw I had a Westie back in the day – dugs full of character!

I love when Jobo’s results come out on a Sunday night. It cheers me up at the end of the week. 🙂 Is that sad? LOL.

A tough game today but despite the obvious injuries having an effect on us it’s three points and we remain clear at the top. Calmac took one for the team today, big time!!

big packy

CFC no problem with your assesment, did i spell that right🤩CFC ,one westie ive got four and to be honest 20 years ago we had five, they all died unfortunately, but then i could walk for miles with them, now like today my arthritis just got the better of me i shouted and pulled at them, they just looked at me as if to say what have i done ,really saddened me but hey ho, after wee joan gave them a chicken dinner they loved me again,,hope you are keeping well👍

McCaff

Maybe not easy to see from the tv but Haksabanovic tells Jota to pass to Rio from the corner, Jota does and Rio scored from it. While the players and fans are going mental celebrating it Jota ran back over to the corner flag to celebrate with Haksa!

Rebus67

On the positive side, Hatate continues to impress but he seems to tire in the last 15-20 minutes. His suicide pass into the centre proves that.

Abada is an effective sub but Maeda should be no where near the starting lineup for an attacking game at home vs teams like M’Well. His role is mainly defensive because he has poor ball control and pace is not enough.

Haksabanovic will eventually be the starter on the right, switching during a game with Jota.

Another striker is needed….someone with height…because GG will not last a season without injury.

The full backs, plus their backups, are exactly what Ange wants and play to his instructions. Both are good going forward, both supplement the attack, but both are flawed defensively, especially against physical players in the SPL, but also against European teams who have the skill and pace to play into the gaps they leave. But all of this is known because it is part of Angeball and will never change.

Results and performances can change faster than a falling pound, but on the basis of performances since the slaughter of Sevco, Celtic will struggle to win the league and will also struggle to get third place in the CL group.

Winning the possession stats is not enough.

An exciting season lies ahead.

One final comment, Celtic need to get proactive re the performances of refs. Beaton needed to stop the game immediately he saw the head injury to Hart. The ref needed to penalise the constant follow throughs and late tackles from the Well players. He also needs to re-read what defines a penalty.

It behoves Celtic to follow this up because what is happening is dumbing down the quality of Scottish football. Yes, it is a physical game but skilled players have to be protected from brutishness otherwise the skill level of the game will not improve. Only then will teams other than Sevco and Celtic prosper in Europe instead of being peeled raw by average teams.

Do it now, Celtic, when you have won a game, not when you lose or draw.

Dear Mr Big Packy,
We write on behalf of our client, Mr Kitts, regarding the scurrilous rumour you have been spreading that he and his spouse, Mrs Kitts, failed to provide you with squerr slice when you received breakfast from them. Mr Kitts has asked that we counter-claim against you on two separate grounds, namely that you were served squerr slice but it was eaten by another customer while you were in the rest-room of Mr Kitts’ establishment. We have attached a copy of the other customer’s statement to that effect. Should you wish to contact her, the other party is called Wee Joan from Chester. The second ground for Mr Kitts counter-claim is that you failed to pay your bill, instead ran out the door shouting, “Send the bill to Jimthetim53.”
Mr Kitts is prepared to let the matter lie if you tell him a true story this evening.

MCAFF, was that a true story🤩 ,how is the wee dug,

McCaff

Rebus…I hope you’re well! All your points make sense although on a different day we could have hammered Motherwell! We hit the bar, hit the post, Kyogo, Abada and worse of all Calmac all missed superb chances which looked either as if they had gone in or, in Calmac’s case, looked easier to score. Factor in Beaton’s disgraceful handling of their challenges and time-wasting and it becomes a different thing entirely. I know the game is won and lost on chances taken, and also the performances of refs are out of our control but the fact remains we still sit top having been displaced for a couple of hours only. TRFC had a good result today against their wee cousins but they too are far from the finished article. So if Celtic are gonna struggle to win the League TRFC are the only ones capable of doing it…and I’m not convinced they’re a better side than us despite our last two League games.

A thing of beauty

Rebus,
Two excellent posts that sum up what I think and a lot of others too. Kyogo has dropped right off it this season. I know he scored a hat trick against Dundee Utd but he’s been off form since we came back this season. Compare the buzz bomb from this time last year to what we are getting just now. I don’t know if he’s been told to temper his runs and attempts to press due to the demands on him but he is not the player he was.
Jenz and Welsh better get themselves a set of cojones if they want to have any future at Celtic Park. You need to believe you can play to meet the demands of our football club and neither of them in the last two games have shown they believe that. If CCV or Starfelt are not back soon I fear for us. And not just in Europe.
I shall leave my thoughts on David Turnbull in my mind. I wouldn’t want people to think I think the boy is out his depth.

McCaff

Hi Big Jim Packy…how are you mate? Aye, wee Juno is doing fine. That’s over two years we’ve had her now, time flies dunnit!!!

McCaff

CFC and Big Jim Packy…my mother in law had a wee Westie after her labrador died. She was on her own and decided a smaller dog would be better for her. The wee thing was a nightmare, it had a bad temper and bit her a couple of times and she ended up having to get it put down before it was 3 years old! Full of character right enough!! I call my wee Patterdale Terrier a Govan dug, just because its mother was a scruffy looking wee thing, but the M-I-L’s dug truly was a Govan Dug, probably from roon aboot the Wine Alley bit if Govan. It was pure mental!! 😂

JimmynotPaul

McCaff 7.11.
I’m broadly in agreement with you ( oh, I hate saying that!! ) 😁😁
I thought we were disjointed, at times, but still could have won convincingly.
We still could have, if Cheating Beaton awarded the stone wall pen, for hand ball.
It would have been a sending off, too, as Well player had already been booked.

JimmynotPaul

On a happy note.
I became a Grandad for the second time, in under 3 months, on Wed.
Paddy’s wife delivered a healthy boy, they have named him Rudi.

Gordon64

Another poorish performance ! IF Hatate or Juras strikes goes in it would have been much more comfortable afternoon. As for the own goal Big Joe has to take responsibility. My biggest gripe is Ange keeping Calmac on the park way longer than necessary 🤔

Dugs?
Each their own. Agree re the Westie – a feisty wee nugget. Not unlike b p?

Auldheid

An error strewn performance, like the curates egg. Good in parts but kamikaze in others. Take our chances and we get away with the kamikaze moments but lots of bad decisions made today that kept it tight.

Opposition have sussed us out when CCV not playing.

Long balls everytime that they pick up a higher percentage of second ball that puts defence on back foot more and gives them more attempts at goal.

I’d also play Ralston before JJ . Has much .more in his locker.
