If it aint broke,,,

I’m delighted with the weekend’s spectacle. Not only did Ange switch it up a bit with his starters, but many stakes a very good claim for their position.
And of course, the team gelled at last.

Each of Forrest, Haksabanovic, Bernabei, Mooy proved they can offer something to the team right now today, and having a true striker up top boosted the all around performance.

Given we looked better than recently with these changes, I’ve one wish.
Give that starting eleven a run of games together.

Let’s look for consistency, an uptick in goals scored plus chances created, and reward players who come into the fray and perform well. The next run of fixtures affords a great chance to bed in the rejigged eleven, and they should be given the chance I wholeheartedly believe.

Ange it’s clearly wasnt broken, so please don’t attempt to fix anything.
Wednesday’s team sheet can’t come quick enough for me.

Same again would be ideal, same starters wrap the game up and the outfield gets replaced to provide a slight rest and minutes elsewhere to access form (I noticed Ideoguchi made the bench). Messer’s Taylor, Kyogo, Turnbull, Abada, Maeda, and even Jota are therefore forced to excel in order to come back into starting contention.
Support are happy.
Boss is lauded.
Winning formula discovered and everything’s Hunky-Dory all around.
A pipedream or the new reality?
We’re all about to find out.
All eyes on Ange.

Fan,
I meant to add yesterday that I noted you were at the game but was sorry to hear it was in sad circumstances. I suppose that’s what happens when you live far away. Trips home must often be tinged with sadness. When you have time I’d be interested in your more in depth thoughts of the team and what you thought of the system live as opposed to on telly. We always have a disagreement about Calmac and it was a shame he wasn’t playing but were there others that looked better than you previously thought or even others that looked worse. What about the system? Happy, or too attack minded?
Mahe,
You are correct that players in possession of the jersey should have the chance to keep it but that’s not how it works nowadays and certainly not with Ange. If that team beats Motherwell and hearts, 4 or more still won’t start against shakhtar.

MAHE

I think-preen,preen-that my Friday article was fairly accurate and perfectly timed. Get me,huh? Seriously though,it consisted of a positive and upbeat review of our CL campaign to date, which is very disappointing if looked at simply on our returns, and a look into what might be needed to get our domestic mojo back.

Now,that isn’t me saying look at me,just an observation. Ange came out later that day and tore through the assembled media for daring to say that we have not been competitive in Europe, that we have been thoroughly out of our depth, that we have shown no right to be there and are simply not competitive at this level.

He even used the terms bias and agenda as he threw their words back in their faces. I’ve seldom seen such controlled anger and contempt. It was masterful.

I then moved on to the weekend match, one where we were playing possibly our strongest opponents since our recent dip in domestic form. I suggested that “eventually everything will click and we are back in the groove. I genuinely believe that is all it will take to get our mojo back-just finding it! Light the blue touchpaper and stand back!”

And sure enough,I was right! Bloody hell,I’m getting good at this-beats me why I can’t get a fixed odds coupon up,right enough.

So,what am I trying to say? Have I recently discovered a new role in life as an oracle,a seer,a genius even?

Not at all. AP is a terrific manager,a wonderful coach, and a man who knows how to get the best out of his players-who,to a man, seem to love and appreciate him as much as we do. We are lucky to have him. He has assembled a squad of players as good as any in the last twenty or so years and has them playing in an interchangeable and fluid system, where everyone knows their role and that of their colleagues. When parts of the system break down, they can be replaced. The problem was too many failures for various reasons at the same time.

All it needed was for it all to click back into place-et voilà!

Now,was that a one-off or a sign that happy days are here again? Well, that’s maybe why I can’t get a bloody fixed odds up! But Saturday was certainly a day for the purists, even down to the pathetic efforts of McLean to prevent it. Certainly made for a happy weekend in all places Celtic.

The Leopards Rimshot.

However, I still suspect that UEFA were indeed aware that the method by which Rangers was being run were at least dubious and worth investigation for it’s all but impossible to stop word spreading about what’s going on internally in any industry.
/====/
I think SFA knowledge predates 2011 (2009?) when HMRC asked SFA about player contracts and knew that the licence application in 2011 was dodgy as the tone of September 2011 e mail from SFA to Rangers suggests.

However there is a big difference between suspecting and knowing and that knowledge being made available publicly for all to see which is the point that it was impossible to disregard that evidence when FSR was being created.

There is an article of mine on Celtic Underground in 2011 asking if SFA were wrong to grant a UEFA licence.

I had suspected during 2010 Rangers were financially dodgy because of the honest mistakes and thought they might not get a licence but had nothing to argue the case with.

Then Aug 2011 Sherriff Officers turned up that Phil MacGiolla Bhain reported and that fact strengthened my suspicion because it takes more than 3 months for HMRC to pursue payment of tax due so likliehood was it was overdue at 31st March.

It then became like peeling an onion with tears on the way.

It was always seen by football authorities and Celtic that to keep a version of Rangers in the game was commercially in the interests of them all. I get that but the 5WA that conferred continuity and LNS that came from it were all part of a huge cover up and undermine the integrity of the game.

The irony is that had the truth been told supporters would still turn up in same numbers as events since Res12 unrolled have shown, but at least now we have FSR from UEFA because the SFA were never going to change the rules as their stance was no serious breach took place so no change.needed.

Bobby, on your theme I also said that I’m not usually that optimistic pre match. However, I said I was surprisingly positive for Saturday. Reason being that having taken a calm look at Tuesday we had played very well, at times. I said with an early goal we would score a few more. I also predicted a hat trick – unfortunately for GG not JF. Can’t get everything right.

I also joked on Tuesday that the defeat meant we didn’t need to worry about the EPL taking Ange away from us.
I think that’s still a plus from our results in Europe as Scottish football is held in disdain by many people who don’t look at the facts and are more concerned with how many England caps a manager had.

I don’t know how much detail was known about the financial machinations at Ibrox,by whom or when. But I moved to Swindon in 2001,and prior to that,Murray had a pop in the press at the fans over the wages being “wasted” on de Boer. That he was “playing for petrol money”,and had the contract to prove it.

Coming so recently after the ludicrous suggestion in court that Goram was on £1000 a week-as reference by TLR yesterday-and a few others which presently escape my mind,I suggested to my mates that there were payments being made which were off the books. The methods used by Irving Scholar to pay his Spurs players via The Channel Islands were fairly fresh in my mind at the time.

I am pretty sure that Celtic knew all about it though. Apparently,Brian Quinn warned Murray that his methods were illegal. And I’m still trying to figure out what made Rangers so attractive to,for example,Trevor Francis who was playing in the then mega-wealthy Italian league, and Ray Wilkins who was playing for Monaco in a bloody tax-exempt paradise!

Absolutely gelled – and not before time.

Remember we often had a slump when the weather turned between Nov & January – we blamed the heavy pitches unsuitable for our more skilful playing style. Therefore, a leveller.

Modern pitches possibly changed that reason/excuse.

Makes you wonder how the likes of the San Siro holds up so well, with TWO teams playing domestic and European games there.

*SENTINEL CELTS PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2022-23*
RESULTS FROM GAME #15 – CELTIC 6 HIBS 1 (FORREST(3), GIAKOUMAKIS(2), MAEDA)

Good evening, friends.
I wasn’t able to attend in person yesterday (don’t get upset, my ticket WAS used) but fortunately my perfect stream of the game made for a most enjoyable housebound Saturday afternoon.
The first 10 minutes suggested to me that we might be in for a game of it. Hibs had a fair bit of attacking possession and seemed to be throwing men forward. But equally, it was evident that Haksabanaovic was being given acres of space down the left wing and fortunately our men at the back were accurate in pinging the ball towards him. So, after the opening goal arrived there really only was one winner. And I think Ange took big Haksa off at half time just to spare Hibs’ blushes.
James Forrest took his chance to impress with his hat trick. Personally, I still don’t think he has enough in his engine to become a regular Ange player but what better way to join the 100-up club other than bagging a hat trick. Well done that man!
With the recurring theme from recent games being about the number of chances that we create I suppose it was inevitable that somebody would be on the receiving end. And it turned out to be Hibs. One of my least-disliked Scottish teams but hey ho!
That’s us now played 15 competitive fixtures this season and we have won 10 with 1 draws and 4 defeats (3 being in Europe). 41 goals scored and 15 conceded.
As for the voting, my thanks as always to the 73 who emailed me their choices. I’m pretty sure this is the first time that not one of our 5 subs picked up a single vote. Oh, and as for my own choices, like most folk I had a short list of 5 or 6. But clearly I came to a different conclusion whilst narrowing it down to 3!
The total votes cast for each player (with my own choices asterisked) are as follows –
Hart: 0
Ralston: 2
Carter-Vickers: 9
Jenz*: 3
Bernabei*: 49
O’Riley*: 4
Hatate: 1
Mooy: 30
Forrest: 67
Giakoumakis: 22
Haksabanovic: 32

Maeda: 0
Abada: 0
Abildgaard: 0
Kyogo: 0
McCarthy: 0

And so, the top 5 players receiving POINTS for the game against Hibs are –
Forrest – 5 pts
Bernabei – 4 pts
Haksabanvic – 3 pts
Mooy – 2 pts
Giakoumakis – 1 pt

After 15 games the overall standings are as follows –
31 points – Hatate
26 points – Jota
20 points – Jenz and Taylor
19 points – McGregor
16 points – Carter-Vickers
12 points – Juranovic
11 points –O’Riley
9 points – Abada, Kyogo and Welsh
8 points – Bernabei
7 points – Giakoumakis and Haksabanovic
6 points – Mooy
5 points – Forrest and Ralston
3 points – Hart and Maeda
2 points – Turnbull
0 points – Abildgaard, McCarthy, Siegrist and Starfelt

Next up it’s a League Cup Quarter Final tie, away to Motherwell on Wednesday evening with a 6.15pm kick off. Not the best as I’m grand-baby sitting till after 8, grrrrrrrr.

Although O’Riley and Hatate on Saturdays showing , could do with a rest.
Id have Abligard and Turnbull to replace them.

Jobo.
From last night.
Anyone who scores a hat trick will almost certainly be in my top 3.
After all, we have been bemoaning the fact that we have been creating and not scoring.
Jamesy delivered.
As TLR alluded to, the fact he joined a very select group of 3, with 100 goals and 100 assists, along side Jinky and Henrik, made it a very special day.
The fact he performed under pressure, given that he’s not a regular starter and not often a used sub, makes it an even better performance.
I’m actually surprised, he didn’t score 100% in the top 3.
* As an aside ACSOM, are saying only 99 assists, others have pointed out, he was credited with his 100 assist at Pittodrie, a couple of seasons ago.
Bobby Lennox just misses, the ( very ) select group of 3.
He scored more than 100 and had 98 assists.
That’s some company, Jamesy is in.
Well done him.

JimmynotPaul

St Tams 10.04.
Turnbull was out injured, with an ankle problem, on Sat.
Not sure when he will return, you know what our players are like, they appear to have innocuous injuries, then end up out for weeks/months.
Hopefully it’s minor and he’s ready for Wed.

Unintended consequences.

When engaging in Res12, started by Canalamar from CQN, the narrative from my time on CQN that I thought to be true was that Celtic under PL were Lobey Dosser and Rangers the Rank Badyins.

The unintended consequence of Res12 was to show Celtic were no Lobey Dosser and just another Rank Badyin under PL.

My hope, with reason to have it, is that there is a new sherrif and deputy in Calton Creek.

Auldheid

James Forrest was seen by fellow players at Celtic as a very good technically gifted player.

One of his best attributes is his touch when passing. He gets the weight of pass and direction of it right making it easier for the receiving player to control the ball.

Sure during his career he let his head drop on occasion or didnt do a die in the ditch tackle, unforgivable sins by his critics although it rarely happens now.

I am constantly reminded of the opening para in The Long Glasgow Kiss of what Glaswegians dont do.

macajw Where to start really, for my son who is 7 years old and watches every Wigan game either being at stadium or on Latics tv, to be asking his mother ” why are they booing and singing that song at Daddy” and to have to tip toe around
answering him is something which should not be happening. This post is not one of sympathy (trust me its not wanted)
but one of anger. Considering every single year we have an FA representative come into each club to discuss the same old crap they spew to us about discrimination, every single year i challenge them
on the abuse, every single year they do nothing This clip is one of yesterday, which can be heard clearly of one particular chant, as well as other chants of ” fuck the pope and IRA, being sung by the majority of the 30k crowd, as well as numerous individual chants of ” fenian bastard, fenian cunt, you dirty Irish cunt” ( while displaying a tribute before game honouring Niall Quinn who is also the same nationality as myself & couldn’t make the stupidity up) now every one who attended the game would have heard this loud and clear
including the referee, match officials and other officials! I should not have to report every single incident when clearly they can all hear what i hear and they should be doing their job
by taking action! I would be lying if a was to say i expect anything to done about this by the FA. @efl (history shows this ) but here is ANOTHER CHANCE sure and i certainly don’t expect any action to be taken by @sunderlandafcofficial themselves giving they did
nothing when i was their player. For the uneducated which will always cling on to a certain picture to justify their argument to say ” he’s brings it on himself” @ this picture which turned out to be not my best joke occurred in 2020, myself as well as my family have been on the end of sickening abuse since Nov 2012, for those you
can’t grasp that, that is 8 years of sickening abuse prior

ATOB
My nieces husband passed due to a very aggressive form of cancer.
Less than six weeks from diagnosis to death on a great father and human being who was only 47.
We miss him greatly.

On the football front my sisters seat is row six on right of Lisbon Lions stand.
Fairly low to pitch so in all honesty i felt it was easier to analyze game on tv with its higher vantage point.
High up in opposite stand would probably alter my opinion.
Game was delightful.
Loved the left side triangles created by Bernabei.Hacksabanovic and Hatate.
Their movement passing and crossing was brilliant.
Also because their interchangeable positioning was executed perfectly the inverted full back worked as no gaping spaces were left for opponents to exploit.
Our right side too often were in a straight line making it easier for opponents to defend though individually played well.
Mooy was industrious but needs to be a little quicker in thought.
Now to find the same formula on right side.
On the absence of Calum who knows if it made a difference overall?
Unfair to comment on guy not playing.
But i thought O’Riley showed positional awareness required in that position and it was noticeable that Hibs attacks came from flanks as opposed to centre where normally our centre is often exposed.
On Maeda i think coaches should be concentrating on his first touch as he has all the other attributes to be a very good player.
Gio did what a striker is supposed to do and his goals were deserved.
Our central defensive pairing is gelling for the most part but on Hibs goal CCV moved across Jenz to go left and tackle in which he failed leading to clear run and shot resulting in goal.
Why did he do such as Jenz was in position on left?
We need to designate a defensive leader who can make everyone’s responsibilities clear.
Hart getting beat at near post poses questions.

James has never been the type of player that the fans take to their breast,a typical winger capable of blowing hot or cold-and often in the same stage of a move! Vaguely reminiscent,to us older types,of a Paul Wilson.

God,he could frustrate me at times! Hell, what a player when he was on his game!

James? Pretty much the same, but I’ve-usually!-defended them both in front of one and all for who they are, what they are, what they bring to the team when it works.

Wingers,eh? Canny play three good games in a row.

I can remember just before James came into the 1st Team there was a video of him destroying the huns up at Murray Park.

As an ex winger, I will always stick up for them, and, the last thing I want for our ‘flair’ players is for them to be steaming into 50/50 challenges. That’s not their game or job in the team.

After Jinky, James is up there with Davie Provan ability wise.

==========
The evidence is in a statement by the CEO in the Celtic Financial Report in September and he is not going to make a false statement that goes to Stock Exchange there.

It also confirmed what I was told when meeting the Company Secretary in June where I was told the name of the Celtic Official involved in dealings with UEFA and those dealings were confirmed in September. T

Here is what Michael Nicholson CEO said in Financial Report so he wasn’t hiding that Celtic acted. I think he/Celtic deserve more credit for doing so.

The source was in a report of the statement at

https://www.67hailhail.com/news/celtic-expecting-increased-uefa-riches-as-michael-nicholson-reveals-significant-club-role-in-new-regulations/

The Celtic chief has also talked up the club’s role in the development of new financial sustainability regulations which aim to prevent European sides spending beyond fair means.
In his review of the club’s set of annual results, Nicholson said:

“As we look forward into the future of European football, the second half of the financial year saw UEFA confirm a number of significant developments with respect to the format of the European game and key governance matters.

“Firstly, in May 2022, UEFA announced that it had approved a new Champions League format post 2024, involving an expansion to 36 teams, a shift away from the traditional group stage format to a single league phase and an increase to eight matches from six in the initial phase. Similarly, under the proposals the Europa League and Conference League would also be expanded to accommodate 36 teams, with eight matches and six matches respectively in the initial phase.

“There is an expectation that, once implemented, this would lead to increased media rights, which would in turn benefit all participating clubs, and we would see this as a positive development for European football as a whole.

“Secondly, UEFA introduced significant enhancements in financial governance by introducing new Financial Sustainability Regulations to replace the previous Financial Fair Play Regulations. These are being introduced on a phased basis from summer 2022 and have the effect of introducing more rigorous spending controls and more definitive sanctions in order to create a sustainable future for the European Club environment.
“Celtic played a significant role at a strategic and technical level in the development of the new regulations, continuing to demonstrate our strategy of participating and contributing to the future of the game at the highest level.”

You should also know that shareholders reps also took professional opinion of fraud in 2011 to a UEFA Whistle Blower site that deals with corruption in May 2020 and the information was passed on internally.

When you think about it Celtic did state at 2020 AGM they would engage with relevant authorities and UEFA on governance and given resistance by SFA (who closed down their own Judicial Panel Tribunal investigation, in May 220 and ignored letters from PL to revisit LNS after CW trial, getting change via the European back door makes sense.

These guys working under the radar are no mugs and big Tims too.

Although obviously a shock,it was hardly a surprise as she had sadly been in poor health for some time. Obviously,I extended my stay to attend the funeral and pay my respects.

A death at 47yo is hardly the same thing, especially coming so soon after an initial diagnosis, and my sincere condolences for everyone’s loss. I only had to travel a fraction of the distance that you had in order to be there, and since I was already there in the first place, that was half of the job done.

My point? That so often now,we only meet up with old friends and family on certain occasions. And always when there is one less than before. The day will come when we will ALL meet up again,of course. But I’m quite happy for that one to wait for a while.

My best wishes to your niece, and to everyone.
