Remember, Remember the 5th of November

I’ll say it now, I wouldn’t want to be in the other SPL clubs shoes.

Fate has conspired to leave the Bhoys with domestic affairs only, no other distractions on the horizon at all, and at the start of November with most of the season remaining.

There’s one obvious target.
Cups come and go, but the chance to get straight back into Europe’s top tier is not to be overlooked. Ever.

It’s all guns blazing now for that league title again, everyone knows it. It’s now The Holy Grail, bringing the big bucks and the prestige.
It’s now our sole focus.

We clearly have the manager and squad to become Champions for the second time in a row, a squad which was just boosted by the incredible decision to leave Kyogo and Reo out of the Japanese World Cup squad. That sakรฉ must be strong. What a benefit to the team though. It wasnt music to the ears of other managers I imagine.

The PLC was correct to leak out some positive news during the week in my book. Contract extension talks for our Greek striker to take him into his prime, and the very young Israeli winger with potential plus being in negotiations for another arrival from Japan.
I’m delighted.
The other clubs shouldn’t be.

G-Mak scores a lot of goals in Scotland, while the men from Japan are on another level, literally. They don’t think like Scottish players, aren’t into the physical side of the game, but would rather play actual football which creates problems for opponents and referees. One (Hatate) leads our POTY chart while his compatriot (Furuhashi)leads our scoring charts. Maeda never stops, perhaps that’s why Ange fancies him, while Ideguchi remains a mystery.
Chances are the new chap can play.
Bad news for everyone else but good news for us.

I don’t believe Ange is reactionary,,this CL campaign won’t have convinced him the new player(s) are vital, but rather he recruits good talent while they are available. He has an eye for a player, and a bargain, both of which suits. With Calmac back and a fresh recruit acquired, plus Mooy heading to the World Cup, our midfield has the potential to switch players and style in January. That served us well this time last year when the new guys (Hatate and Matt) slotted in. It should serve us well again.

The manager is clearly building, and given he’s won the league title, there’s little doubt why he builds. Europe.
And how do we get back there guaranteed?
Win the league.

I’m expecting the Bhoys to kick into another gear now. The players will have enjoyed the big stage, many posters did, and shall crave that stage again. If you enjoyed watching it, imagine playing in it? Of course they want it again,,, the home crowd find their voice, one can play in an iconic stadium abroad and even score in the Nou Camp, you’re afforded the opportunity to test yourself against the globe’s best players.
And now we can do it yearly?

Winning the league is the priority across the board. Everyone’s entire goal now.
It’s time to kick some ass.
I really wouldn’t want to be the rest.

Good morning, friends and Happy Matchday!

Too right on the focus buddy!

Let’s get this league sealed asap – have the players practice the intensity and skills required to win at the top level in Europe.

They are easing off in games when they know it’s ‘job done’ – admittedly in some games they do need to go to the 95th minute – those games are few and far between.

Practice, practice and more practice and do it on the pitch – try things out – on the pitch

Play without fear!

SFTB & SteveNaive

Was out and about yesterday – just catching up on your replies – thanks lads!

The Leopardโ€™s Rimshot- good to see you in better health – hereโ€™s Del and son(s) doing a Richard Thompson classic – love how he forgets the words keeps playing and his bhoy prompts him .. great venue too..

We are currently scoring at an average of 3.5 per game.
130 plus goals over the season should be the target. Ensures the league will be won and keeps up focus game per game.

Fine them all apart from Joe if intensity falters๐Ÿ˜‚

Of course it’s a disappointment to not win a match in our group. We did show that we can make chances against the best team in the world imo, so we can take positives from that.
Had we played safety first, we’d have probably still got beaten, and we’d never have shown “the world what we can do..”
We can take confidence from that into our league campaign, confidence that we’ll break down any SPFL defence. Other teams will realise that they must score a goal or two to get anything from a match against us. Our CL efforts should tell teams to have a go.
But I fear we’ll have eleven men behind the ball, leg breaking tackles, time wasting from the ko, and referees who are incompetent, or biased, most probably both.

probably the best press conference i have seen from a Celtic manager

What did Celtic do on this day in 1975 for the 1st time in a competitive match ?

Scottish refs are a joke.
In real time, this looks even more of a dive.
Var gave this as a pen

Had numbers on the back of their hooped shirts. V Boavista. I was there.

Saw that last night, never a penalty but Hibs can hardly complain about diving when they have Porteous in their side๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Bada Bing at 9.56 – I couldn’t agree more. An absolutely brilliant watch for me last night and what an honour it is to have a man like this as the face of our football club. if folk don’t have the time for the full 17 minutes, just zoom to the last 4 or 5. Loved his quip about the AGM – I won’t spoil the punchline ๐Ÿ˜‰

Love this photo of Springfield Vaults. Once called Flynn’s, the CSC based there used to sing;

Egg chaser trying to talk fitba …
Those of a CQN disposition — look away now.

We set up as 4 – 3 – 3.
MF is sometimes 2 + 1 / sometimes 1 + 2.
That is 2 x No.8’s and a No.10 or it is a No.6 and two No.8.s

We work a high press set up as a 2 – 4 – 4.
Against RM — RH moved into the front line to press their left CB.
That would appear to be us playing the 2 + 1 set up.

The two FBs move up into the middle line — what the hip kids call part of the inverted FB playbook.

Anyway that was our basic tactic when RM were trying to play out from the back.
Had some success but they were good enough to work out a counter.

They move the ball from side to side and slowly try to advance.
They are good enough to make some progress and we end up retreating slowly.
Their front line starts to work / run the channels against our two CBs.

Starts to cause problems — how do the FB’s respond — eventually they drop back.
We are then 4 – 2 – 4 with pockets of space on the flanks.
RM spot this — pass through the press and make use of them.

They have the ball at the half way line.
They are advancing rapidly and we are starting to sweat.
Our MF two run the verticals back towards the goal.
Our left winger aka Dm has been played out the game and is playing catch up.
The RM guy advances towards the 18 yard line and GT has a dilemma.
Hold the defensive line or face up the attacker — the MF continue to run the verticals.

If he faces up the attacker it leaves space for his team mates to exploit.
If he holds the line the attacker advances and better passing options come available.

Wednesday night — rinse and repeat.

2022/23 CL the question has to be — what would Napoli do?

Their MF 2 would run the laterals to slow down the attack.
Cover the space on the side of the field where the attack is focused.
The defence would crab over to provide cover to the FB if he has to face up the attacker.
Their DM figure / winger would aim for the ball / be a nuisance.
They would crowd out the attack.

Win the ball / force them back / reduce them to long risky diagonals.

We are not there yet.

Morning all,

The old Internet has been down in my area for 4 days now ( Virgin) so havenโ€™t been posting.

Timhorton from previous thread

“It was not overtly clear to the room, but much of Celticโ€™s planning in recent times has been to be in the right place when Uefa change the Champions League in 2024.”

You say I’m seeing something in Paul’s article that isn’t there.

I’ve seen abysmal planning for the CL qualifiers plenty of times. I’ve seen Peter Lawwell fuck up almost every managerial appt he’s been given responsibility for. I’ve seen Lawwell blow the biggest advantage Celtic have ever had in an almost decade long absence of any credible challenge from whatever abomination operates at Ibrox. I’ve seen Henri Camara as the cheapest bargain basement replacement for Larsson, I’ve seen Lawwell say the various managers have the final say on players yet Keane wrote in his book that Strachan didn’t particularly want him, BR didn’t sign Shved etc. Don’t get me started on the hapless Bankier.

Yer man at CQN now expects us all to believe that our board have been working behind the scenes (how convenient) all this time to secure our place at the big table 18 months from now even though theres an absence of any evidence that they’re capable of doing anything beyond the bare minimum.

Craig76 135th the Sesette and I already booked at Paradise for tour and lunch on Sunday!

A big day we wouldn’t miss … much as we resist giving this Duplicitous Outrageous Bรฒrd our hard-earned money ๐Ÿ˜

Would like to see Ideguchi get some decent game time today but reckon Ange will go for something like this…Hart, Ralston, Starfelt, Jenz, Bernabei, O’Riley, Turnbull, Hatate, Jota, Giakoumakis, Haksabanovic.

Morning all, another positive leader Mahe ๐Ÿ‘
Hoopy Birthday to Greg Taylor (our most improved player…. so far)

Lot’s of board bashing going on, we should cut them some slack, after all it must take some skill to climb the corporate ladder on your knees. ๐Ÿ˜œ

3 points today, and in the words of some unknown “We never stop”

HH โ˜˜๏ธ

I’m sure you will have a fantastic day tomorrow, just remember no running onto the pitch to recreate your favourite goal ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜€

Craig76 Interesting concept, through countless others, even the 10men won the league game, mine would have to be Johnny Doyle, nipping between to tall Real Madrid defenders (Hen Broons) to score the most beautiful header, I’ve ever seen at Parkhead.

God bless him

Big Audio Dynamite

Noticed very few, if any, have CCV in today’s line-up ..think he’s a cert to start.

Ralston, Carter-Vickers, Starfelt, Bernabei,
Matt O, Ollie, Hatate,
Forrest, GG and Jota
Subs – Siegrist, Jenz, Taylor, Juranovic, Mooy, Haksabanovic
Maeda, Abada, Turnbull, Kyogo

Celtic 5 Dundee United 0
(Giakoumakis hat-trick)

Big Audio Dynamite

Wouldn’t be disappointed with that team or the result! I left Cameron out as for me, the boss has a pattern of not rushing people back regardless of how severe or minor the knock is. That said, I’ll be delighted if he starts.

Big Audio Dynamite

Maccargo, he is already one of my all-time fav players.
He is imo the one player we struggle to adequately replace.
Has one player ever had such a positive effect on our defensive record?
I really think he is among our best signings ever …that’s how highly I rate his contribution.
Brings such a calming influence, while starting most of our forward forays.

A real rock!

Big Audio Dynamite

Sold! The big chap starts!

Good positive article Mahe.

AFTERNOON ALL and JIM ,just been reminiscing there as we are playing dundee utd, when i first started watching celtic in the mid 60s dundee were the better team up there, players like ian ure alan gilzean andy penman,,amazed me the grounds were so close to each other, just across the park,,reminds me of everton and liverpool just across stanley park from each other,,another true story,.COYBIG

Teams upโ€ฆ

Hart, Ralston, Carter-Vickers, Jenz, Bernabei, Oโ€™Riley, Hatate, Turnbull, Jota, Giakoumakis, Haksabanovic

Big Audio Dynamite

Maccargo, that forward line! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

Speaking of goal-getters

7 changes

Siegrist, Taylor, Starfelt, Kyogo, Abada, Mooy, Abildgaard, Maeda, Forrests

Camara was at the end of MON reign he had put us in a big hole so money was not there WGS did a great job of patching things up.Not a fan of PL but he was there for a few championships.
Bottom line how much do you think we should spend on players to be a success in the CL.
You sound very angry.

The Star Above The Crest

Thanks for the reply. I’m not angry, apologies if it came across that way. My point is not about how many millions we spend (or don’t), it’s that members of our board have shown themselves to be inept, short sighted spineless and overly compensated (in any order you like) yet we’re not only expected to believe that the same board have been beavering away behind the scenes on a long-term master plan but that we’re not quite clued up enough to grasp that.
