Relax and let the pressure build elsewhere
Im delighted with the buildup to Monday’s top of the table clash.
Taking the timing into account, the extra rest should obviously suit the pressing team more.
The extra time also affords the media extra copy to hype the affair, fine by me. We all know which team shall be the recipient of such hype, which manager shall have praise heaped upon him, fine by me once again.
Keep telling Beale he’s the bee’s knees, and talking up players, it merely increases the expectation come match day.
Facing the Champions with only four games under the belt is far from ideal. All victories yes, but the Bhoys can derail that ‘juggernaut’ pretty early into the new man’s reign. Defeat for the blues would scream ‘not this year’ while defeat for the green and white would only delay the title coming to Parkhead again.
A draw favours Celtic, our rivals can’t afford to let this rare opportunity pass them by if they have genuine title aspirations.
Footballing wise a more open game would suit the Bhoys a lot, and for once we face an opponent that must try to win which adds to the excitement and intrigue. Rock and a hard place for Beale, music to Ange’s ears.
Personnel wise there’s only one team with negative selection problems, late fitness calls and shuffling the pack through necessity, whilst the other team enjoys the pleasant dilemma of choosing which players suit the occasion.
On this front it’s my belief their manager erred in selecting a youth player in midfield last time out. Mondays game is not for youth players,,dropping the player tells him he isn’t fully trusted, starting the player would be a mistake. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. If he is to be benched the incoming midfielder was just denied a nice run out against a poor side at home, great opportunity to attain match fitness and confidence.
Beale might believe he’s holding the player back for this occasion, but is a week of rest the ideal preparation? Not in my book.
The ‘fact’ one side can field ‘Scotland’s Messi’ doesn’t tip the scales,,this player in particular must live up to the hype which is music to my ears. There’s also a chance it will be JJs last game in the Hoops, and going out on a high would be just his style, bad news for Kent.
Spare a thought for Juranovic though, keeps coming up against a Messi of some sort.
I’d still back him for a farewell goal though.
Tactically the pressure is one sided. It goes without saying the team coming up to a century of games under the same system should know their roles better.
It goes without saying you would rather have the man who’s been there, seen it, and done it at the helm rather than the man with it all to prove. Finally one would much rather have players who have delivered over those that haven’t climbed that mountain.
The fact Beale is considered a master tactician only adds to his pressure. He can’t afford a run of the mill performance, his team must not freeze on the day, while playing for corners and/or freekicks around the box would simply expose his myth.
His side must show something different. Onus, and pressure, firmly placed upon the Englishman’s shoulders.
I like to believe the VAR team and all officials on the day are under more pressure than usual to behave given the nation’s flagship game draws a lot more viewing eyes. I guess we will soon find out if that’s true, but playing to the refs would be a poor show by a true master tactician.
The pressure is building nicely. I want Ange and the Bhoys to put their feet up for the rest of the weekend, bond more as a team and help the new players settle, watch videos and relax. Every interview should exude confidence in the squad plus the path we are on. Show the cameras were are genuinely a happy camp, with not a hint of pressure about the place.
And come Monday, show everyone why we are the Champions.

“And come Monday, show everyone why we are the Champions”
Morning all, and yes Mahe I believe we will.
I doubt the supporters of QPR consider Mick Beale a master tactician. He’s definitely a massive something to them.
I recall reading an excoriating piece on Beale, as he exited rather shabbily, by a self confessed QPR fan journalist which didn’t miss its target.
The issue you clearly identify is that up here the fans with laptops generally travel under the banner of The Laptop Loyal and it is their duty to praise not to bury their favourites.
It was ever thus.
Looking into the “odd” Hun forum tells me they generally are not too optimistic, apart from the expected “ No Surrender” bravado of a few.
Their performances under Beale have not exactly fired them up.
Like us they have been scoring goals but have also conceded more.
In a direct goal comparison to the two teams we have both played – Aberdeen and Hibs – our record is
5-0 compared to their 6-4.
A skewed statistic given our total dominance in the Aberdeen game with over 30 shots and a poor return of one goal.
Statistics, I once read, are like a drunk holding on to a lampost – more for support than illumination.
However, the above suggests to me that they are a vulnerable team.
Let’s get in about them Celtic.
Great stuff,MAHE.
I think both sets of fans will be happy enough with a draw-though grudgingly! Leaves the gap at nine points, with eighteen games to play. Twelve points would be peachy, but many of us can remember us throwing it away from even more advantageous positions than that. Six points will still be comfortable, and probably more than we could have hoped for at the start of the season.
Blinkin’ flip, even I’m not sure whether a glass is half empty or half full these days!
Of course,I’ll be watching the match hoping and praying for a confident and impressive victory, all achieved at a canter while rubbing their grubby noses in it. The sort of victory that sees scarves being ditched, seats emptied at half time, tellies chucked through windows, and the SMSM wondering how to put a positive spin on events.
If that makes me a bad person, tough. I think I can live with it…
Mahe sure enough we’ll be treated to all the guff about the form book goes out the window on Glasgow derbies, from the laptop luggers.
I have never felt so confident going into a game at Mordor, they’re an ageing team, the bulk of whom according to their captain are derby bottlers.
We have absolutely nothing to fear from that rancid mob, and quality instead of bullsh*t will shine through on the day, as Ange and the bhoys show them why …we never stop.
Edit: I should have added I’m not sure that JJ will play, as Ange just might be bold enough to play Alistair Johnston, no matter who starts, they’ll be enough to handle Mordors £100m dud.

Remiss of me not to thank you earlier for the festive background.
I’m not averse to players making their debut against the huns, for me it should be the same as any other team. Play them when they are ready. But with both JJ and AR coming back from injury,AJ might well be the option.
But Reo has been a revelation playing there, even if we haven’t seen much of him in defensive duties. So I’d go with Reo,as our other three options are bringing out my inner Mad Mitch(!)
BMCUWP no worries, it’s just a little messing about with some backgrounds, always happy to do it. 👍
I believe Reo is the only problem Ange has, does he keep him there to face (as Mahe calls him) messi, or move him back to midfield and drop Matt, who hasn’t had the best of games lately, or drop Mooy who has been steadily getting better since returning from the W/C, that would be a shame as he has shown a steady calming influence there, it will be interesting to see what Ange does.

ASWGL
Matt has been outstanding since his arrival just short of a year ago. First,in his advanced role, and then in a deeper role when CalMac was injured. His recent slump in form is a worry, but a return to form would hardly be a surprise. Having said that,Mooy has improved continually since he got his fitness up to scratch, and an extended run in the side.
These, and other selection issues, are very good “problems” for a manager to have.
I always think it worthwhile to look in on the other side occasionally. Particularly before derby games.
In amongst the predictable No Surrender tripe, the more realistic of their support are saying:
“We are slow, unfit, lack cohesion, poor middle to front and generally look pretty clueless with a shit end product.”
“It will have to take a dramatic increase in performance levels to take anything on Monday.”
“From what we see from this group of players I have very little to be confident about.“
Even if we go behind in that cauldron of hate I have every confidence we will prevail.
Getrightintaethum Celtic.
Haksabanovic out for Monday, Taylor is fit to play, Johnston and Kobayashi could be in squad if clearance from SFA(I know)
https://thecelticstar.com/celtic-at-ibrox-injury-update-haksabanovic-misses-out-taylor-is-fit/#.Y7ARuYzGx7g.twitter
Morning all…a word of caution for Monday – they NEED to win, we don’t! Our Mibs and VARs will be on full alert to their predicament and we’ll need to be absolutely on it to ensure we’re not dragged down to their level. Cool and level heads required by Celtic on Monday despite what might go against us!
On the pitch the choice of right back might decide the game…Knut has been moved inside and Barisic is back to playing a more forward role and putting in earlier crosses into the box. Abada won’t defend against that, neither will Reo. Josep at right back is the obvious choice for me!
11 v 11 we have nothing to worry about if both teams play to their potential but it’s a lottery when you consider the potential influences from elsewhere!
I still think we’re good enough to pump ’em!
C’mon the Hoops!
Monday’s game will have a considerable out of Scotland audience.
Var could work to our favour here. Those vague decisions previously given without pictures/stills to justify them could be a little bit more difficult to get away with.
🧐
If we turn up, and we always do, we have absolutely nothing to worry us.
We are twice the team they are.
0-3 to the good guys.

Ange’s presser, still goons asking about Sevco
‘The Transfer Window isn’t open yet….’😁
I see the Wolves manager, has used his Christmas Matalan voucher
RIP Pope Benedict XVI. 🙏
Crazy to think it’s 2023 in Australia, but in Govan it’s still 1690
As I get older I have become more of a worrier, so remember that as you read the following.
The January 2 game is not predictable using the normal criteria. Yes, Celtic have a superior footballing team. Yes, Celtic seem to have found their shooting boots. Yes, we can be more relaxed about the result because defeat does not have the same implications, and so on. However, this is not a pure sporting contest. It will not be played on a level playing field. To our opponents, it is the result and only the result that matters. Their best approach is to throw Celtic off their game. They will be physical. They will disrupt our flow. In this, they will be assisted by the officiating. Celtic are also younger and fitter. Thus it suits Sevco to slow the game down so that they have some gas left for the last 20 minutes.
If decisions continually go against Celtic, I cannot predict the effect that will have on the players. The longer the game goes on without Celtic being ahead, the harder it will be to get a result. There will always be the case of the “looming penalty”, and more than one will be possible.
Sadly, what should be an advert for Scottish football is now a battle of the clans where Hate is the winner. I wish it was over.
Rebus
He did well to long dodge the ITCCS.
Does the sun rise in the South in Australia?
Just thinking ahead to Monday.
All matches are having a minutes applause for Pele. I was wondering about Ibrox though as Jan 2 is the anniversary of the Ibrox disaster in 1971. They haven’t announced anything yet. And now we have the death of Pope Benedict thrown into the mix.
Might we have a minutes silence – respected by all – then applause for Pele in the 10th minute as a mutual compromise?
Or a minute’s silence, a minute’s applause then a minute’s silence again ..?
I’m more concerned with the weather conditions in Govan as opposed to the weather in Australia to be frank.
Sunny intervals with a light breeze according to the forecast, Monday.

Insane 161 finish:

Billy 4.08.
It’s a minutes silence that FIFA requested.
I would imagine Sevco will have the usual minutes silence for The 1971 disaster and mention Pele, also.
The world association FIFA has the organizers of football competitions worldwide to a minute’s silence before each game in honor of the deceased icon Pele called.
This should be used to commemorate the legendary Brazilian this weekend and the coming week, the wrote FIFA in a letter to their member associations, which was available to the German Press Agency.
“As long as football is played, Pele will be remembered and missed,” wrote FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura. “Pelé brought the magic of South American football to the world and gave meaning to the phrase ‘The Beautiful Game’.”
Even before the FIFA letter, the three major European leagues in England, Italy and Spain had decided to honor Pelé with minutes of silence on the current matchday. In the Premier League, there is a one-minute applause in honor of the Brazilian until Sunday before the game kicks off. Pelé died on Thursday at the age of 82 from complications from cancer in São Paulo
BILLYBHOY
It’s a good point. I think 1971 takes precedence, and has been observed for a number of years now,but the death of probably the game’s first worldwide superstar cannot be ignored. A difficult quandary, and one which I hope will be suitably resolved.
So no minute’s silence for the dead pope at Ibrox then?

161 is my highest ever checkout, and that was about forty years ago. Very much a one-off,I might add. I had probably had that many walks to the oche beforehand!
I could have done with such luck when I played wee Jocky in Wimbledon about ten years later. But every time he was on a finish,I was still in 300+ territory! Wee bugger cost me a right few quid in,I think, vodka and orange, that night. And worth every penny,he was in fine form.

Thankfully,no. Last time was an embarrassment, same at Tynecastle.
If hertz can’t hold a minutes silence then no chance that mob!
They’re a permanent embarrassment AND a permanent disgrace, Mick.
Odd too that they don’t hold a minute’s silence to commemorate the first Ibrox disaster either.

161 is a tremendous achievement Bobby M, spending time, having a drink and a yarn with wee Jocky Wilson is a dream come true.
I’ve drank with Alex Higgins on a few occasions,he could be a difficult character however I got along well with him.
Alex tapped me for a tenner once to bet on a horse – I said Alex I’ll just give you the tenner because I’m never going to see it again.
Horse got beat – worst gambler in the world he was.
He did tip me a grand national winner,Comply or Die – seen him a few weeks later – “did ya back that horse a give ye? Did ya bet that horse?”
Nah Alex a never bet it, wouldn’t bet any horse you tipped.
Even a broken clock is right twice a day I suppose.
Two flawed geniuses Alex and Jocky were,no doubt about it.
Really sad how they ended up,gifts from God to the world.

OK last post on the issue,
Just reading back and from everything stated this paragraph keeps coming back to me.
The arguments by e mail with Canalamar over issues (he was right from the off about taking it to the police but the absence of hard evidence until 2018 stopped that) gave me headaches, but when I met him in real life he was a pussycat with a twinkle in his eye
And when are the statutes of limitations In the UK. Well its 6 years for breach of contract.
Thats a coincidence.
And I’m sure Canamalar will love to be described as a pussycat with a twinkle in his eye.
How condescending are you? and was this the first time you stated this about him and if not, I wonder to whom this line might have been used.
As I said I’ve already made up my mind and nothing will change it.
A lot of people don’t like to admit they have been duped, they can’t accept they would be that gullible.
Fool some of the people!!!!
BOBBY, just got your text, happy new year to you and yours as well, will have a think over the weekend, still missing JIM,.another true story👍

Evening all! This is a bit of an indulgence so please skip by if you cannae be bothered…
As the minutes pass and we get nearer the beginning of a New Year I’m sitting alone in my wee summer hoose awaiting some family arriving. My girls are getting ready for the Bells, the wee guy has already left for a party with friends in Paisley with a pack of San Miguel and a warning to not overdo it and be sensible! I think he will but I won’t have a beer until he’s home safe and sound. My thoughts have played back the past 12 months, a year potentially full of excitement for my younger girl’s 18th, a couple of family weddings and my best mate’s daughter’s wedding. I’d start building an extension at my own hoose too, delayed and delayed and delayed due to awkward neebors unwilling to be neeborly!!
The year turned out differently, the weddings and my daughter’s birthday were excellent as expected, the extension had a few problems and we’re not quite there yet but we’re no too far away from getting into it. But, like a few on here, we’ve suffered loss. Heartbreaking loss. Two elderly uncles and an elderly aunt that will be sadly missed. I fortunately got to see one of my uncles before he passed, got to tell him I loved him. My cousin, 18 months older than me died suddenly while out walking with his wife, he’ll never know what he meant to me and that saddens me greatly. There’s been other losses, too. 14 funerals this year…14!!
I’ll be glad to see the back of 2022 despite the good memories and am looking forward to welcoming 2023.
My older girl is 21 in January, it’s her final year of uni. My boy is 17 in February and will be looking to start driving as soon as he can. He leaves school this coming year too so there’s plenty for my wee family to look forward to.
So, as we see out the aul’ and welcome the new hold your loved ones close and tell them you love them. We don’t do it enough.
I doubt I’ll be back on this year so I’m gonna wish you all a great Hogmanay and a Happy New Year and I’ll leave you with two or three wee tunes to get you in the mood…
