It’s Only A Game?
Morning,all.
MAHE delivered a terrific article on Wednesday about how he regards the importance of Sunday’s cup final to Ange and his players-and to the supporters too,of course. And perfectly correct in what he said too, most of the responses to it were in broad agreement.
There is no doubt whatsoever about that. Not only is it the first trophy of the season to be awarded,it is also the first trophy that Ange won as Celtic manager-and at his first attempt too. He will be very keen indeed to hold onto it. But there are other factors involved here too. AP has shown himself to be a true professional in every respect,a gentleman on and off the pitch. Not for him the self-centred arrogance of others,he has been careful to show respect to opposition players and managers during his entire time at Celtic Park. Yes,he rarely suffers fools during his exchanges with the media, but that is understandable when he has to deal with endless repetition designed to trip him up.
He has even been known to have the occasional leisurely cup of coffee with his rivals, which is as it should be of course. Football may be all about winning, but there is no need to allow it to turn you into something that you are not.
Sunday will have another significance for him too. I think Tuesday’s press conference with Mick Beale showed that his usual bonhomie and forbearance has worn thin, the opposition manager taking any and every chance at the cheap shot since his arrival. Egged on,encouraged and tolerated,by a fading coterie of “journos”, he has attempted to diminish Ange’s achievements while bigging up his own. While,of course, the latter bear little scrutiny.
Our manager won’t allow his personal feelings to cloud his judgement on Sunday, but I have a feeling that he might enjoy a victory just that little bit more than usual. And I bet he will still be a true professional in every respect,a gentleman, after the match too.
However, while that is not to overstate the importance of the match on Sunday,it is the first in a run of four games in fourteen days which will go a long way to defining our season. There is the trip to Paisley a week later, scene of our only domestic defeat this season. We will want to lay that ghost, render it just a bad memory. Take the three points back to Glasgow. The following six days sees us play the minis both home and away, the first in midweek on league duty and the latter in the quarters of the cup.
We are all well aware of the special place Nielson holds for us in his heart, and he will send his side out on both occasions to destroy our momentum, wreck our game plan by all means fair and foul. ‘‘Twas ever thus against that lot,so it won’t catch anyone by surprise. Although I think Ange is likely to be choosing from a somewhat depleted squad the following week against Hibs!
Sunday is important to our season, let’s make no bones about it. It offers us the chance at the first trophy of the season, and a springboard to the rest of it. But the three games to follow, while there are no medals or trophies handed out on the day, offer us that opportunity to further increase our lead at the top of the table while taking another step towards the only trophy to elude Ange and his squad last year. It is a big fortnight for us,and it all starts with a big weekend. Let’s hope Ange has the chance for a rare self-satisfied smirk on Sunday afternoon. I’ll enjoy it nearly as much as he will!

POTY Competition
sencelpoty@gmail.com
When it comes to Sunday we are better than them but we all know refs and VAR are a worry.
Defeat to them is always nasty and the suffering lasts for a while. A defeat to van Bronckhorst would hurt but I know I’d get over it and move on eventually.
The thought of losing to Beale is too much to handle. Your description of his antics so far is spot on, if a little polite:
“Egged on, encouraged and tolerated, by a fading coterie of “journos”, he has attempted to diminish Ange’s achievements while bigging up his own.”
The guy is a horrible oik. Think what he will be like if he wins on Sunday. I will need to find a cave to hide in.
COYBIG
Good morning friends and a Big Happy Friday to all who post or lurk on this fine site.
In 9 sleeps time I’m blessed to be flying off for a week in the sun. Little did I know that going for just 1 week would mean I’m away for the 3 subsequent games that you mention which are on the Sun-Wed-Sat. But worry not, the POTY thing will still go ahead.
JOBO
I think your dedication is above and beyond! Hopefully,Celtic will give you reasons to be cheerful during-and before and after!-your break.
FRODSHAMBHOY
I know,I’m polite to a fault.
Thing is,if I wrote what I really thought about Beale, his players-for example,Sakala yesterday-and his fans and cheerleaders,I’d have to ban myself from the site for various offences.
Not suggesting that I’m psychic-if I was,I wouldn’t be £12 behind my Dad in the naps compy-but this article in the Mail is worth a read.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11785339/Liverpool-Chelsea-Tottenham-lost-Champions-League-Premier-League-lost-edge.html
No team in world football has won more than 7 domestic trebles.
We have the chance this year to win our 8th.
Hopefully Ange is the man to deliver it.
Bobby.
Fashion Sakala’s antics are straight out of the idiots playbook on how to do the opposition manager’s job. (Fashion FFS).
Ange would not let anyone from Celtic behave like that. The fact that he is allowed to spout his nonsense speaks volumes for the standards at that new club and its fans. Perhaps they will learn with age.
FRODSHAMBHOY
Indeed. Anyone might be forgiven for thinking that Traynor is still in charge of their Ministry of PRopaganda.
Fashion’s parents thought it’d be a good idea to give that name to a baby boy 😕

Postecoglu follows the Stein Celtic mantra.
Straight bats the press just like the old days when Rainjurz were here, he’s Sevco street wise to the fanzine level coverage of the men from nowhere. Celtic bad, Rainjurz good, is so last century.
Without side letters to help it’s a hard shift for the dirty tricks brigade and the new mason is the elephant in the video room. They got an assisted win last season , where nine fouls for one player still escaped a yellow, and fast tracked Nick Walsh will be happy to help.
As ever
Score forecast
Celtic 3 Sevco 0

It loses a bit in translation.
BSR
“nine fouls for one player”
An astonishing statistic, that a Scottish ref would award nine free kicks against his own side.
FRODSHAMBHOY when you get back to frodsham from tenerrife, you will find no beer in your fridge and no sirloin steaks in your freezer, myself and wee joan thoroughly enjoyed them🤩🤩BTW get some decent lager, that fosters is rubbish🤩 another true story.hh
Road to the final.

The first of this weekends Glasgow Derbies is live on BBC Alba tonight. A 7pm kick off for Celtic v Sevco. Ladies. A win for the good girls takes them to the top of the league, level on points with Glasgow City who will have a game in hand.

FRODSHAMBHOY just looked at google maps, FFS your right it was the house next door🤩🤩
the nearer it comes to sunday the more nervous im getting, its ok being the better team but when all the officials are rainjurs supporter’s its a different kettle of fish, there will have been meetings in all the ludges in scotland plotting our downfall ,they will target kyogo hatate and maeda from the off, and ill put my house on them getting a penalty, hope to god im wrong,
Any minute now we’ll be reminded of Roy Aitken stealing a throw-in from John wurzradeeds Broon.
Gotta balance it out a bit 😋
Haha, didn’t have to wait that long. Feck me, they are so transparent!
Me personally speaking would instruct the team to go on the offensive from the get-go.
Blitzkrieg.
We should be well out of sight from the hobgoblins by half time.

“There are all too many “football people” in Scotland – and in the case of Fifa vice-president Jim Boyce, some even beyond – who do not know the rules of the game, do not know how the rules are designed to be applied, or know both but want to pick and choose the moments when the rules ought to apply.”
Good words, strong words. Then as now. Sadly, then as now, that’s all they are.
Btw,I assume you were at Eintracht v Napoli? I’ve been highly impressed by Napoli all season, since they swamped Liverpool 4-1. So was it us or the huns that faced the CL winners at the group stage?
16 ROADS
I expect the huns to come out all guns blazing against us,maybe draw a couple of cheap yellows to unbalance us.
So,I agree with you. Take the game right to them from the off. No let-up,no respite.
Bobby M – Indeed.
There’s going to be a 15-20 minute period of the game where the walking dead won’t be able to lay a glove on us – may as well make it be the first 20 minutes.
Celtic score early and the roof caves in on them.

If we take ko hoof it right out of play down by their corner flag.
On top of them around their 18 yard box from the off. We did that a few years ago I recall.

Im sure our commercial department will be right on that.

BMCUWP,
Wasn’t present on Tuesday as I’m in Thailand. Saw the game and Napoli outclassed us. Fifa watchlist participants.
Hoping to take in Sunday’s game at Bangkok CSC. Bobby Petta and Didier Agathe should be there.
AWENAW
Aye,the in-laws will use any excuse to get you out of the house! Have a good one, mate.
Means little as far as Sunday goes but comparing our respective CL opponents recent results, just those that dropped into the Europa, tells us the Huns were humbled by a poor Ajax side who are out of that competition.
We should have done better against Shakhtar who are through, without talisman Mudryk.
Conclusion-
Huns have gone backwards in a big way since last year.
We are a team with greater potential to improve.
We won’t see this til next season in Europe but
Sunday would be a fine place to start to exercise our superiority.
AWENAW
Napoli can probably whip themselves off that watchlist in one fell swoop by selling Kvaratskhelia for about €100m. Just turned 22 as well, what a player.
CFC
I agree with your conclusion about Euro form.
What you say flies in the face of pretty much all media analysis.
Huns are on a magnificent unbeaten run. It’s mentioned everywhere without reference to our own longer, higher scoring and lower conceding run.
They should be in for a rude awakening on Sunday 🙏🙏🤞🤞
I still believe what I said a few days ago. They will need to fly at us from the off. If we get to 20 minutes at least level it will be looking good.
If we batter them from the start as mentioned on here earlier we are well capable of making Beale and Sakala have a wee rethink about how good they really are.
In Ange we trust
BMCUWP@2-18
With the huns on field placement Walsh and cheating Beaton on VAR can’t see us being allowed to come out all guns blazing.
They will reduce the flow of play constantly hoping their punt and dive team can scrape something from the remnants of what was supposed to be a football match.

What a sad, miserable statement on the state of Scotland and Scottish football.
The fact that it’s true makes it even worse. 😡😡😡
No wonder our National team is where it is.
BMCUW- i hope he has a CL medal in his pocket….£20@14s Napoli….
See what I mean:
Nikola Katic believes that the Rangers are in better form than Celtic going into the Scottish League Cup final. As reported by Football Scotland, he said:
“It’ll definitely be 50/50. I give a little bit of an advantage to Rangers from the fan side and everything and I think Rangers are a better team. It’s a cup final and it’s going to be a hard game because nobody wants to risk losing with a stupid mistake. The final means a lot to the fans. I know I said 50/50 but I give a little bit of an advantage to Rangers because I think they are a quality side. Celtic are playing good but Rangers are in better form for me.”
Hunbelievable
Frodshambhoy
We don’t live in an alternative universe we exist in a Hun one. In Scotland anyway.
It has always been thus, and makes our record breaking in the Scottish game all the more remarkable an achievement.
This week provides further evidence of the pro Hun agenda.
What a lot of talking they do.
Playing to the gallery.
Unfortunately for them they have to play on the pitch too.
And what a great opportunity we have of establishing our pre eminence by putting them in their place.
Roll on Sunday. Cannae wait.
🍀
as this is music night ,thought id post this before i take the dugs oot, now many of you on here know Jimthetim53 is my best mate he has not posted for about 3 months now, jim is a brass player trombone etc etc, but he always used to say to me how do you play the reggae beat on the drums,,now if what im about to say brings him back on the blog,, ill have won a watch👍 Jim ,think of UB40 red red wine, get the beat into your head, you can read music its played in quavers or eighth notes, instead of the usual quaver feel, 1 and 2 and 3 and 4, you play on the AND of the eighth note so its 1 AND 2 AND,etcetera etcetera if that does not bring Jim on nothing will👍 another true story.hh
CFC
Roll on Sunday as you say.
“I give a little bit of an advantage to Rangers because I think they are a quality side. Celtic are playing good but Rangers are in better form for me.”
Why is that nonsense printed without comment. By what metric are “Rangers” in better form. They don’t even exist!!!
The facts state that Celtic are in better form than Sevco. When you take the influence referees and VAR into account we are miles ahead.
The state of football in Scotland is a disgrace. Someone needs to get a grip and move us into the real world.
My biggest concern on Sunday is seeing Starfelt booked early on for a non existent foul on More or Less. That puts him under pressure and Walsh the cheat will just be looking for an excuse for a second yellow especially if game locked at the time. We all know both those rats have form for doing it so why should this week be any different. Watch this space. 10 vs 14 by 90minute whistle.
Only answer is what Jock said. If you score enough the ref doesn’t matter…..
Women’s game against the huns on Alba right now!
So far not a great game
