Even In The Darkest Moments…

This started as a reply to AULDHEID the other day,it is about the strides we have taken in less than two years. We all remember where we were then. Personally,we were all stuck indoors. A phone and the internet for company, wondering why the world had ended and nobody had thought to tip us about it. Being a Celtic fan as well, that was even worse-staring disaster in the face and not being able to do a damn thing about it.

Our loathed rivals were lording it over us,we were powerless to intervene. Their head honcho had even predicted it,and the likely outcome too. Fortunately,he was only half right.

King was right though when he told the hordes that we would collapse like a house of cards. We did. Thankfully, the foundations proved to be strong enough to cope. Think about it,we had destroyed a legend in NL,and we had lost or seen off a man with 18 years at the top,and 18 years too late in my opinion.

We had chased for months a highly-rated young manager, who was only available because he got his side relegated the previous season. On top of that, our best players were demanding to leave.

Oh aye,and we had just lost the league by,what,25 points? Oh yeah, that’s a house of cards. And King knew it.

Everyone knows how delighted I was to read that NL had resigned.  I’d called for that since the previous October when he put out a team against the huns. At home. And we didn’t have a shot on target. Much as I adore NL the player, his time as a manager was done. But as a player? Makalele role,my arse-it was the Neil Lennon role. And nobody did it better, cue for a song.

Lawwell? My opinion on him was formed when he thought that an adequate replacement for Henrik was a reserve from Wolverhampton. Henri Kamara, but shades of John Dowie in 1977 when Kenny left. Neither ended well. Some people may have noticed my opinions on Lawwell over the years,I’m quite sure that he CGAF. But there might just have been some singing and dancing in the streets of Swindon when he chucked it. Once lockdown ended, that is.

House of cards,eh? Oh yeah. On our way to a personal best on how many points we finish behind the huns. About to post a personal best on our finances for the season-all in red. Dinged by a manager who can’t get another job offer.

Needing a keeper,a right back. Two central defenders. An entire overhaul in midfield and up front,CalMac and Jamesie aside. If someone had offered me or you the job, even we would have told them to eff off.

OMG,how lucky are we to have Ange? How lucky are we to have had two chief executives who have put their faith in him.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch southside way,it ain’t looking too peachy. Wage limit of about £10k a week, and free transfers please.

I wonder how King feels about his prediction now?

Last post on previous blog.

Bada Bing.

I remember going to a Scotland v Eire in early sixties at Hampden with my dad, a bit ignorant on Irish history whilst knowing it played a part at Celtic.

I remember my dad saying it’s going to be fun when the Eire national anthem is played. He did not say why but when The Soldiers Song was played and belted out at the Celtic end I got why he was chuckling away.

The other end were fuming.

Nice one Bobby.

It’s not long since I mentioned our worst fears that never happen but what does happen is way better than our worst fear.

I rest my case or rather you did..

Thank you.

That’s why I made it plain where the article came from. We don’t think these things up on the hoof-even if it looks that way! No,someone has to plant that seed. Or make us think.

And speaking of seeds, you might think sometimes that you are casting them on stony ground. That your comments didn’t elicit the reply that you thought they deserve. We all feel that way at times. Some posters have publicly chucked it because they feel that they are being ignored.

Not just here,we’ve seen it elsewhere. The explanation that we couldn’t reply, the original comment could hardly be improved? Pearls before swine, huh?

Maybe though,it sets off a train of thought. Or a discussion in the pub, whatever. Maybe sometimes, every time,it causes us to stop,to think. Maybe that is just me. But…

Maybe,as I hope I conveyed in the article, you make us realise how lucky we are-but with the sinister reminder of what we narrowly avoided.

I knew what you were getting at and if something I said provoked a different way of thinking that is my usual motivation.

I was at BRTH’s wedding on Saturday, three folk I met via social media told me what I had said via that medium had made them think. Made my night.

As I sometimes say ” My business is to do my thing, to dance my dance. If you profit from it, fine; if you do not too bad! As the Arabs say, “The nature of rain is the same, but it makes thorns grow in the marshes and flowers in the gardens.”

That itself is very provocative.

Your a good man says I, breaking my rule on trying not to judge.

A lot of good is being done on SC, the odd discombobulation is the grit that makes the pearls.

From previous blog:

This is nonsense BMCUW.

Horse racing aside, I’ve actually been with you, racing to get on the last train from Bath to Swindon, and not only was it a piece of pish despite just necking 2 pints each in 5 minutes, we also got there with time to spare, and also got the best seats. And then we didn’t even have to pay ffs 🤷‍♂️
AND, bearing in mind, this is you, the prime example of railway trauma ffs.

My point? I’m not sure. Maybe, that’s how railways work.

Or would you rather we went back to this because you can’t make a train on time unless I’m there to help you?? You’d never have made that train back to Swindon if I wasn’t there, admit it 😆🤷‍♂️😎😁

PS, I love that this is going to be a ginormous link, this is why I love our rebelliousness, cos we don’t care 😆😆

We are of course lucky to have Ange.

Are we lucky to have seen him backed by the suits so far?

Of course. I fear the jungle drums were already sounded elsewhere, and the lemmings ( i hate using this analogy, but it is sadly true) duly responded.

Ange will be off quicker than BR. BR was shocked at the hate, ie, the PR when he left gifting us 9 million after pretty much telling us he was done (too many wingers)….did someone tell him the media would be favourable? 🤔

Ange is much shrewder, and will just get tf when it happens again.

Same as he expects his players to do when it doesn’t work out.

He won’t hang around, or let emotion get in the way. As soon as he sees someone is power playing in the boardroom to undermine him, he will be off. The right thing to do tbh. But the person doing the power playing will also be well aware of this.

We have seriously sleekit characters operating in that Celtic boardroom, as folk we know here have demonstrated.

I saw signs of this already coming into play from some of the posts on the PLQN hotline through the winter. I’m sure the many wiser fholks than me here saw that before even I did .

Depressing as f to be honest.

Uber Feenyin
March 28, 2023 3:29 am

What a joy Ange has been though. An absolute joy. I see even the PL controlled board giving him this coming euro campaign, but after that, PL will start cashing in.

Amazing how being aware of this and reading the PL hotline of the other channel all becomes so clear. Once you see it, you can’t unsee it.

You were paying for the last minute pint in Bath,so I was quite a happy guy. The Royal Hotel next to the station, first place I’ve ever been that charged over a fiver a pint. Straight off the train in Swindon and into The Queen’s Tap-is there a theme here?-and it was half the price.

And we didn’t have to rush that one either!

I was in there about a month ago,and a young fella was in wi his Celtic top on. Aye,really. And who’s the guy he picks to ask when the last train is to Didcot? I mean, that’s asking for trouble. He might as well have asked whether it would be cheaper to get a taxi there or to book into a hotel. Turns out he was originally from Ruthergen, his family still live there. And yes,he does know our Rutherglen Massive. His Dad drinks with them!

That’s a shocker. How anyone can judge that as a free kick against the attacking team. The defender came in with an attempted stamp, missed.

Penalty to Rangers! (It would have been at the other end, btw)

Thanks BMCUWPS for a fine article this morning.

An uncomfortable note about this whole King saga was his alleged purchase of stolen emails from the character known as Charlotte Fakes.

Those emails allegedly contained material of questionable activities by certain individuals involved at Ibrox.

It would be interesting to clear up what material Charlotte Fakes made available to Celtic minded individuals?

It would bring a bit of much needed closure to find out if any hacked emails were used.

– The problem with them (apart from the possible legal implications.) Is that they don’t take into account context and what exactly was going on at the time.

– Were we being played?

The alleged hacker was identied and charged.

Yes, you’ve guessed it.

Charges dropped.

That said, what King forgot to tell his minions was that Ibrox was funded by soft loans and confetti shares.

Yes, there’s much to criticise at Celtic.

The fact that there’s solid financial foundations at Celtic Not reliant on debt or some form of a leveraged buyout is huge.

If the critics are tipping Ange for the offski one minute and Dermot selling up the next, we’re doing something right.

Hopefully, the CBC case will conclude shortly.

Whatever the outcome, when that’s behind the club we’ll be in better place to look at the future.

I see Everton were charged by the FA yesterday. They’ve been working to an FA business plan for a few seasons apparently.

(Be careful what you wish for –

How would any buyout be funded? How would the purchaser make money? Business plan?)

The Gombeen Man

I don’t think many of us really are aware of how dangerously corrupt the world of football transfers is and specifically agents.

Transfers have been a cause of unease for Celtic fans for years.

Maybe one of the bonuses of Ange is that we might of tapped into a market that’s relatively free of the pernicious influence of European agents…

The UK Government White Paper on Reforming Football Governance in England acknowledged the international dimension of Football Agents.

Basically they decided not to put the regulation of agent’s within the brief of the new Regulator and are allowing, for now at least, FIFA’s new regulations, that came into force on the 9th of January 2023 to take effect.

The FIFA regs allow national associations to add further requirements for agents. The Regulator will monitor the effect of FIFAs regulations and work closely with the FA to ensure the new regulations are ‘fit for purpose.’

FIFAs introduction of the regulations.

“The new regulations introduce basic service standards for football agents and their clients, including a mandatory licensing system, the prohibition of multiple representation to avoid conflicts of interest, and the introduction of a cap on agent fees, all with the objective of reinforcing contractual stability, protecting the integrity of the transfer system and achieving greater financial transparency.”

From what I can see Scotland’s authorities are in the process of updating their procedures to comply with the new FIFA regulations.

In Scotland there have been repeated claims in the media of the involvement with organised crime and characters operating as agents.

Reports suggest that at least one unnamed agent was facing charges due to links with organised crime.

A few moments research are pretty interesting.

Have a great day.

Funding a buyout? There’s a question with the only answers being unpleasant ones.

How will a buyer make a profit? There’s another one. One that should cause some of us to do that sharp intake of breath.

At the current share price, about 111,we have equity of roughly £130m. DD has £50m of it. For him to sell-where he is approached by a buyer-he will look for double that but settle for maybe £75m. Were he instead to look for a buyer,he might get half of that.

Seller’s market, buyer’s market. I certainly don’t need to explain that to you!

The buyer though? He either has to have a deep love of Celtic in his core. There is no obvious avenue to profit on the investment. Or an innate hatred of all that we stand for. There aren’t many benevolent billionaires out there, you don’t get rich by being stupid.

I’m clearly not DD’s greatest fan,but the alternative scares the shit out of me.

If yon fella, an offspring off the Rutherglen massive and their taxi mafia, is asking you about hotel prices via taxi fares, then the taxi fares must be cheap as fk there ffs 🤔🤣🤣

Anyway, I’m disappointed that, in that early picture of a Celtic Brake Club packed onto a cart, no one spotted ole ACGR, hiding three rows back and 2 in.

If you look carefully, you can spot him slipping his hip flask back into the driver’s pocket after drinking it dry….

Master of boozing stealth that fella. Just like that 16 Roads character.

March 28, 2023 9:19 am

Quite the opposite. Considerably cheaper to rent a room than to take a taxi a bit of distance. Even cheaper if you can get to a train platform in time.

There are some nasty evil things said about taxi drivers, particularly the ones in Rutherglen. Boundary charges, etc. Then you have a fella taking his kid to his first game at Ibrox. The youngster is a Ross County fan,the Dad doesn’t know Glasgow very well.

And a taxi driver from Rutherglen who showed him the ropes. Where to go,where to avoid. Dropped them off and made sure he was there to pick them up too. All weekend. Refused a penny in payment too.

I’ll spare their blushes, but you’d love the lad in particular. Loving folk music as you do. Medallist at The Mod.

I think the fact that there’s two billionaires in the background brings more security than we’d like to admit.

Plenty that needs constructive criticism too.

Hopefully with the prospect of some regulation and the CBC case making it way through the courts we’ll soon be in a better position to look to the future.

The watchword is Sustainability.

Football is a circus – it attracts chancers, everywhere it seems.

Sadly in Scotland sustainability means some kind of an Old Firm.

Football tourism to the SPFL doesn’t sound too sustainable to me…

£300k a week for a new contract? Bugger me backwards over a hostess trolley,as Victoria Wood nearly said. But then I read that Erling Harland is set to be offered £500k a week at Man City.

St Tams @ 9.31am,

This is where we disagree.

Why shouldn’t he? It turned out to be wrong because of one season of a failure, in very peculiar circumstances, but NL has proven time and time again to be worthy of any role at CFC.

To be clear, I think the person that should have went, and should have went even before then, was PL.

The way some people turned on NL so quickly, it still makes me queasy tbh, and it clearly affected him himself, which I understand.

Yet so many were still Stepford Wiving PL (not yourself of course but you know what I mean), and this just makes it all creepy beyond comprehensible reason. And possibly signalled the death knell of a certain blog determined to protect its master and commander at any expense.

That expense being, the stragglers left behind and lording it over there to an embarrassingly deep level of lack of self awareness. (My own opinion of course).

Back in 2011 I used Celtic Underground to publish long blogs

One asked if Celtic had been cheated by SFA out of a CL place. It was based on thinking that Sherriff Officers dont call in Augudt to collect unpaid tax unless that tax has been due for more than the 4 months since 31st March thus was an overdue .payable at that point.

It attracted around 24k views. Whilst looking for it I found this one War with SFA

it is very long but you will find it interesting. McLeish gets a mention.

Anyhoo as result of focusing on events in 2011 CF contacted me im summer 2013 v Kerrydale Street which I frequented and provided some e mails that strenghthend the view there was an issue.

What happened thereafterc is documented on Phil’s blog under Resolution 12 A Story of Duplicioty from Cradle to Grave.

That material is now on the Res12 archive to back up the narrative of what took place from 2010 to date with one final chapter on closure to be published.

Celtic and the media used the idea of provenance of the material to avoid publishing any of the it but apart from a judge ruling it was ok to refer to what CF leaked a reason no charges were made against CF nor against anything published based on the leaks was it would have opened up a can of anacondas that would squeeze life out the game.

CFs motivation in leaking originally was to get the truth out there but he was made an offer he could not refuse.by King. I think the reason charges were dropped was taking him to court would have set the anacondas loose and perhaps DK put a good word on CF to the malicious prosecutors. I am speculating on this point.

Lots to get into when you get back in from the rain.

March 28, 2023 10:38 am

The whole Charlotte Fakes thing really confused me. Then and now. I couldn’t understand the motivation. Was it a look at me,I hacked into an account and I am wonderful? Was it a genuine attempt to expose more of the murky dealings a la RTC?

Those suspicions weren’t helped by the swift pocketing of £20k from King. I know your integrity is worth more than that, and I’d like to think mine is too. To paraphrase, what does it profit a man to have £20k in his hip,but everyone thinks he is a prick. Or that he sold out. Not a pleasant thought, that one.

March 28, 2023 10:56 am

Under PL and NL2 we were punching well under our weight.
NL without his own coaching staff was nowhere near his 2010/2014 efforts.

And on reflection his 2010/2014 efforts were somewhat short of what we needed so NL2 was a trainwreck with a bigger than expected bang at the end.

PL just did what he was told to do and when he had any freedom to think his own thoughts the results were even worse as he has limited strategic vision / no understanding of growth / the club’s potential and an unconscious incompetent’s ability to pick the dross out of the diamonds.

He has a number of strengths regarding self enrichment / excuse-mongery / loves a good meeting / career development and he has cultivated / developed the CFC interweb community to do his own bidding. P67 needs to take top billing for being his master’s voice but others have been involved.

Regarding our situation in the summer of 2021 — given NL’s recent performance — anyone of the top 5000 managers / coaches on the planet could have made huge strides forward with some basic coaching / squad development / new blood. Punctuality would have been a great step forward no matter the coaching drills.

20/21 — we were that bad — a disgrace to our history and the support.
The fact that the open sore was allowed to fester as long as it did showed the failure of the board in stinking technicolour.

As for today and the future — my thoughts are that AP is a good coach but a great manager.
He has worked his opportunities to the max — he is not the manager the board thought they were getting.
He has ambition and desire well beyond the norms that the board thought they were dealing with.
Plus he has the flexibility of a judo player to take the strength of others and use it against them.
Limited budget for TW4 / Jan 2023 — move on the wage hunters 6 months early and get in new blood.
Books are balanced / squad are more settled / performance levels are heightened.

The future — Euro performance levels need improved / lots of opportunities / better financials.
I think AP will stick around if he is allowed to do his thing — the current EPL gigs are a future based on the Russian roulette of relegation and nervous owners with DoF back-up.

If the moons align — we give him the stage he deserves and he delivers a LoTD / MF style performance aka West End gusher.
The summer becomes critical — we finish the season on top form and we bring in new talent to make us even more credible in Europe and take us to the next level. We missed a good opportunity this season where we played well but got poor results. More talent / confidence / experience and we should make some progress.

If we had been in the EPL / Serie A / Bundesliga this season — where would we finish?
Where would we finish next season if we buy well / continue to improve?
I think we give far too much respect / credibility to the Big 5 leagues.
To me there is a lot of dross about.

PS …
MF = Michael Flatley.

Thanks for that, I’ve read the documents briefly.

I’m presuming the emails you might be referring to might include the correspondence relating to the 5WA??

1) How can we be sure that CF hadn’t already sold the material to King?

2) How do we know that King or others connected to Ibrox didn’t set the whole thing up?

– Could he have been working for King.

3) Do you know if CF hacked Celtic’s internal computer systems or just Ibrox/Hampden?

The reason for asking is that the emergence of evidence seemingly connecting Celtic to the 5WA caused considerable reputational damage to Celtic.

It seems a bit coincidental that this evidence fell into our laps.

As has been pointed out the sum that apparently CF sold his material to King is one thing.

It can hardly be argued that King was going to do anything to restore credibility to the game.

As you well know very few are what they seem in this saga.

There’s a number of possibilities with these events and I know that you are motivated by nothing but the good of the game.

– The above are just quick examples.

It’s unfortunate that when dealing with folk engaged in the murky world of hacking that we’re venturing into dangerous territory.

Back to the grindstone.

March 28, 2023 12:43 pm

Good morning from the 61 on Maryhill Road

Been thinking about Neil Lennon (NFL) after reading today’s leader. I try not to think of Peter Lawwell though.

2 years after Neil left he remains a contentious figure amongst those Celtic fans I know. There are plenty who remain blind to his failings and who see him as a Celtic legend* and others who wouldn’t give him a cup of water if his house was on fire. Me? I liked him rather more as a player than manager and found him to be a good raconteur anytime I heard him at a function. I like him less now than I used to.

As a player NFL was neat and when the ball was in play he was cool and as focussed as you would wish. When play stopped he could explode at refs, opponents or team mates but as soon as play restarted whatever had irked him seemed to be forgotten. Without Lennon Celtic would have won fewer honours between December 2000 and May 2007 than it did.

As a manager though he was patchier than he should have been. His first spell was, by common consent, better than his second but even that first time was littered with bad results – mainly in cup ties- and his decision to pick Efe Ambrose against Juventus after the Nigerian had returned to Scotland after a long flight backfired spectacularly. The 2019/20 season saw his team regularly produce some scintillating displays as well as 2 classic wins over Lazio but also very avoidable losses at home to Cluj and Copenhagen.

The 20/21 campaign was as we all know hellishly bad. Looking out of condition after lockdown and , very early on, to be badly stressed nothing went right. Duffy was the linchpin signing and , totally unexpectedly, proved disastrous. Barkas looked a shrewd purchase but turned out to be poor at the most basic of goalkeeping skills, shot stopping. Neither of these two turning out to be so bad was NFL’s fault – or anybody else’s- and he was once or twice unlucky to lose key players to Covid for big games ( Rangers was remarkably lucky in this respect.) But a lot of the way Celtic played was down to him and his repeated refusal to acknowledge personal failings and instead blame everybody else was for me worse than his being not very good at managing a team in what were unforseen and very trying circumstances. I was disgusted by those who subjected him and the team to the abuse meted out in the late autumn of 2020 but by the time he left any sympathy and affection I had for him had largely dissipated.

Anyway I am now on another bus. Have a good day folks.

* I am pretty stingey when it comes to dishing out legend status. Brother Walfrid, Willie Maley, Jock Stein, Jimmy Quinn, Patsy Gallacher, Jimmy McGrory, Charlie Tully, Billy McNeill, Jimmy Johnstone, The Lisbon Lions, Danny McGrain, Tommy Burns and Henrik Larsson are about it for me.

It was summer of 2013 I was contacted and it was 2015 that DK bought the cache. What came out between 2013 and 2015 was all related to UEFA Licence 2011 and establishing if an overdue payable existed and if it could be proved. That proof did not surface until 2018 and it did not come from CF.

There was no reason to question CF motivations until he sold cache to DK when DK’s motivations took over. I wouldn’t rule out an unwanted horses head as motivation as well as the £25k carrot.
