As weeks go,,

This is type of week you live for. Three massive clashes one after the other, a dream schedule, and plenty of excitement guaranteed.
First up comes my favourite away fixture, up to Edinburgh to face the Jambos. It’s that stadium and their supporters, the old fashioned box shape makes it feel like they are very close to the pitch and echoes the sound well. The home team aren’t so much urged on but urged in, as in heavy tackles and putting it about.
It’s a very testing venue, always a difficult place to go. A strong team can win their, but a good team can silence the place, which is the sweetest noise in the world, pardon the pun.
I sincerely wish for silence and lots of it tomorrow.
On the injury front the squad looks good with only 2 unavailable (Abada and Welsh), but not only that Brendan himself looks much more at ease.
“We feel like we’re at home now.” he recently stated.
I believe that means ‘Im’ at home now.
He’s found the second arrival pretty ease free in my books by being accepted by the majority from the off, has found the squad very receptive to his methods, and part of me thinks tying most of them down is the clubs way of hopefully keeping him for those promised 3 years. He’s got his bunch, the supporters inside, is getting praise from myself at least, and we truly show up for the bigger games.
It’s all behind him now, and Rogers 2.0 is feeling content and at home. Great timing because the fixtures are coming fast and furious.
Every fixture is big at our club, but Wednesdays tie is massive now. I said 3 clashes earlier but there’s actually 5,,,the other two being supporters clashing with the board and club clashing with UEFA.
Green Brigade in attendance or not, the colours of Palestine will fly high on the night, and the support ain’t backing down on this one. I suspect by now the board are smart enough to realize this is the wrong battle, but with alleged sponsor pressure and more fines possibly closed stands on the horizon, the bottom line comes under pressure. Something that’s sure to get chins wagging in the boardroom.
I feel they are stuck in the middle with no wiggle room, can’t ban the majority of the support, can’t have other nations flags banned because that would mean the butchers apron finally lowered at Ibrox which probably would cause civil unrest, can’t ban just the GB if the rest pick up the mantle,,,but you know corporate, they want their way and are used to getting it.
But they won’t with this one, so I’m genuinely curious as to what fall-out occurs from Thursday onwards. I urge unity no matter what because first they came for,,,you know the rest.
And by the way I do intend to fundraise for Gaza once that gateway is clear and unrestricted.
To these eyes, our board are experiencing the weight of responsibility for becoming custodians of our club, experiencing outpourings of solidarity they cannot change and will not change, and experiencing the humbling situation of not having total control.
Every example of fan-power is precious and all too rare, that’s why this could be momentous.
The week the support say No! You’re the Captains of our ship but here’s where we are going. Get us there or get to,,,
The week the support flex their muscle.
The 3 footballing clashes of the are huge, but any time the Celtic support takes control of the direction of the club is unmissable. I do believe that moments here.
The next 7 days as a Celtic supporter were already big, but given current affairs, they’ve become crucial.
As weeks go,,this one offers it all.
Bring it on!
Up the Hoops

Tx for the tip from last thread. I don’t normally follow the Celtic Way site but I went on to it after your prompt. I couldn’t find anything remotely resembling the link St. Tam’s provided.

On the subject of today’s leader, I suspect there will be a fair few Palestine flags but the Board are not taking the GB on directly about Palestine. They have found another line of attack.

Which raises questions.
The timing?
The need to be seen to act?
Was pyros and gate rushing unprecedented?
Was a final warning handed out, because it should be before a total ban?

I’m sorry but I just feel it’s the middle east war affecting this decision in my book. I’d bet they (the GB) feel the same.

Winning games is our priority however what happens off the park this week could be equally if not more important to us as a club HH

The dichotomy that exists between our hard core support and our board is massive and the views of the majority of the support lies somewhere on the spectrum inbetween. We’ll likely see on Wednesday night where allegiances lie 🤔

October 21, 2023 12:52 am

Mahe…the Gaza Crisis might be the reason for the current hard-headedness of the PLC but the real reason is control. The Green Brigade have too much say, too much control, too much sway, too much influence. It’s been the PLC policy to undermine them at every turn whilst attempting to be seen facilitating their TIFOs etc but the reality is they are despised as an infernal nuisance.

The board gave the GB the standing section we were the first club to do this. There is definatly overcrowding in that section if it is not acted upon soon it might be taken out of our hands on a health and safety issue. Same with the ned behaviour at away grounds if we don’t act others will. Wether the GB should be targeted for this I am not sure

The sense i get is that BR2 has returned to Celtic not with a point to prove football wise but to redeem his reputation amongst the support after the way he left us. For that i give him immense credit HH At some point however BR will have to distance himself from our Custodians 🤔

It’s certainly about control.
But this particular issue, the Middle East war, is beyond the boards control.
Any attempt to use the GB as whipping boys must be seen for what it is.
The easy target.
The stadium will support the same cause, then silence.
I’m with Pink Floyd, hey teacher, leave those kids alone.

The board are dicing with death on this one.

Mahe…the Crisis is the easy excuse for the PLC. But non-compliance is not the way for these rebellious youths. My worry for them is are they smart enough for a long game that will see them up against the PLC, the polis and potentially most harmful to the Club, UEFA? I’m not sure they are but I admire their sound…2 examples – the last Palestine fine and removing the polis from his position before got his wife’s picture on the desk! That was the GB that got that done. We shouldn’t forget that!

Mackers ,
“But non-compliance is not the way for these rebellious youths.”
Brother, compliance can do one. Those in authority would love a compliance attitude.
Comply to who exactly?
I’d rather comply with Walfrids vision, comply to my beliefs, comply to own dreams of what Glasgow Celtic could become, than trust Capitalists.
It’s the board who must comply with our our clubs ethos and supports beliefs.
At times we must force that compliance, this is one of those times.

Mahe…agreed! But we go to games, get annoyed if somebody stands up during the game, we’re sanitised to accept we’ve been corralled into a theatre. The Green Brigade offer us a glimpse of who we once were and who we’d still love to be but the mortgage, the car payments and the duties to provide have cleansed us of any ideas of non-compliance. We don’t like to admit it but we’re not what we should be. The Green Brigade are, and they fight for us but we don’t always realise it.

The old guys seem to forget what the jungle was about. The rebs in the Celtic End. The feeling of being there. Of being part of the big Celtic community. Celtic was always different, supporting Celtic was a left-field, left-wing, anti-Imperialist, inherited badge of honour. Our roots were traceable and we are proud of them. Remember the green combat jackets with the Cuba flag on the sleeve, the Che Red Star teeshirts…de riguer at Parkheid on a Saturday. Where are they now, hidden by black flak jackets and balaclavas because its a crime to go to fitba and sing our songs without the fear of a 5am arrest squad at the door. God help you if you mimicked aiming and firing an Armalite at a Hun or a Hearts fan! Now it’s potentially a crime to support Palestine. Official! Our immigrant Home Sec has proclaimed that it’s up to local forces, local officers even, to decide if carrying a flag or shouting Free Palestine is a crime! Our sanitisation is almost complete. Get the GB to shut the fuck up and it’s job done for the PLC, the polis, ScotGov and anybody else who have always wanted us kept down.
We are compliant, too compliant, but we’ve no-one to blame but ourselves. The dichotomy between the PLC and the support is irrelevant, ALL voices and opinions have a right to be heard! The Green Brigade have got more bottle than the rest of the support put together!

A last one before bed…Private Idaho by the B52s. The phrase Private Idaho is thought to have been coined when the state of Idaho came into U.S. possession. The area was considered fertile land and it was believed lifelong dreams could be supported there. So, who’s living in their own Private Idaho, our own utopian world of our own imagination? The Green Brigade, the PLC or us the ordinary guys who expect and demand the best from every aspect of Celtic at all times! It’s a tough life bring a Cellic supporter but it could be much, much worse. A wee look a few miles to the South tells us that!!

Yes MAHE, an excellent week of football coming up, it’s week’s like these that show us where we truly are in the domestic and European football world.

As you know, I got rather hot under the collar during the summer transfer window, it was obvious to me the Board were back to their parsimonious worse, building cash reserves instead of football teams.

Still we seem to have made progress despite them and if St tams post on Joe McHugh is correct, BR is in it for the long game and that’s a massive plus…

“LATEST NEWS By Joe McHugh 38 Mins Ago

A very interesting WhatsApp message was rapidly being forwarded last night, apparently from a Question and Answer session with Brendan Rodgers.

The uneasy nature of his return to the club was cleared greatly by a win at Ibrox on September 3 followed by the eventual sacking of Micky Beale and the resulting meltdown on the dark side.

Rescuing the young supporter from the Police and Stewards away to Livingston helped his image with an appearance at St Roch’s on the way back from Santa Ponsa hard to pick fault with. On the back of the Daily Record’s Liel Abada fantasy Rodgers took the winger out for dinner to round off his busy Sunday.

The way that he reacted in February 2019 to the overbearing influence of Peter Lawwell into the playing side of the club seems to be an area of deep regret for Rodgers, something that he has had reinforced in almost every interaction since that decision.

Admirably he stuck by the decision when he returned to Celtic in June, confirming it as a career move while acknowledging the consequences at Celtic, quickly pointing the agenda forwards with the hope of improving on his first spell managing the club.

Late last night the following WhatsApp dropped in on me, it seems very plausible:

Just back from a Q&A at CP with the man, absolutely blown away, as humble as I’ve ever seen him!

Bit of a summary, he was choking back tears and struggling to speak when he talked about the kids he sees wearing their Celtic gear on the way to games and how that was him, when he sees the older guys it reminds him of uncles and elderly relatives that have passed, if that was an act it was Oscar winning stuff.

He knew how we felt about him leaving, would meet supporters all over the world and he felt that look of disappointment in him, he came back because he didn’t want to be that guy who was edited out of the history of this football club, that bit was very emotional.

On a lighter note, he’s here to stay, has no ambitions to go anywhere else, could be here another 2, 3, 5 or 7 years (his words), happy with the structure of the club, support from the board and the facilities he operates with are up with the best (post improvements that are being made)

Tried to get a couple of big players in before window closed, wanted 4 to improve the 1st team before Jota & Starfelt left, read from that what you will.

Loves Maeda and will play him as the main forward at times, he’s Kyogos back up, not Oh (BR never said that but how I read it)

Had dinner on Sunday with Abada, don’t believe the DR, strong boy mentally who wants to be here, back in December, as an aside another great example of his man management, knew what was going on and pro actively took him for dinner after he left St Roch’s.

Loads of other stuff, I’m sure some of the sound-bites will get out from other quarters but rest assured this man is on a mission and laser focused to ensure his Celtic legacy is at the fore of the annals and not edited out.

It is interesting, or diplomatic, to note that he is happy with the structure of the club but wanted four starters from the summer window. Hopefully that message is being taken on board by the real decision makers with the January window free of projects with more signings of the calibre of Alistair Johnston.

Everything sounds reasonable and believable, Rodgers is getting his message out, these days
events like that don’t remain in-house with the ball in the boardroom to deliver for their elite level manager.

Can’t agree with you on the GB though, giving it large at the western world’s “bread & circuses” events is trite at best.

What we seen recently was not them at their best.
I don’t watch or listen to a lot of politics these days but a podcast came up, Owen Jones putting the Isreali Ambassador in her place, exposing her agenda.

Yet this left wing firebrand and advocate of the Palestinian cause took several opportunities to condemn Hamas and call out their “Operation Al-Aqsa Storm” for the heinous war crime it was.

That was what the Green Brigade were supporting at Celtic Park, as a massacre unfolded in the middle east.

We can’t condemn Isreal for violating human rights and inflicting war crimes, then support Hamas for doing the same.

This has nothing to do with Celtic and those that brought it to our door must be dealt with accordingly.

Hail Hail

Seems to be.

Things are banned from every football ground in Scotland.

Me personally think the pyrotechnics are brilliant, however a hell of a lot of Celtic supporters don’t.

Reading Sentinel Celts though, you’d be forgiven for thinking the GB are being barred for displaying the flag of Palestine.

Sensationalism at best, deliberate agitation at worst.

Bad craic regardless.

The TIFO’s are intoxicating in more ways than one unfortunately. Eintracht TIFO’s were second to none. I urge everyone to search them out on YouTube. Absolutely Fabulous. The beer sellers outside the ground were complaining that they were losing custom due to the majority of fans turning up earlier and earlier to witness the ever more magnificent TIFO’s. It became part of the culture where most fans would donate cash at games towards the show of the next TIFO.

Unfortunately it’s became a health and safety issue. Frankfurt uni klinik is having to treat people who were having breathing difficulties and burns at every European game. This wasn’t just some old lad turning up after the game complaining of being chesty but full ambulance rescue for fans mostly in or near the ultra section. I honestly saw one fan being patted down at security and told he couldn’t take in his gas mask. Fucking arsehole. Everyone after were almost down to their scants by security afterwards. There was obviously going to be fireworks. I’ve heard stories of the drink/drugs being blamed on partial asphyxiation and young lads within the ultra section.

The club then said no more pyros for TIFO’s they even contributed towards them on this condition but as we all know some fuckers just canny be telt.

So in the summer Eintracht were fined half a million Euros by UEFA and the ultra stand was closed. Sure they demanded their ticket refund and got it.

The German Fire brigade also initiated proceedings which will ultimately result in a fine somewhere down the line .

Next threat by UEFA is closed door games(plural)

There will never be another TIFO in the Waldstadion.

BANNED. By order of the Fire Brigade whom freely participated in organising and supervising non combustible TIFO displays.

Quite simply the pyros have to stop.

Re Joe McHughs report based on what BR said at the Fans Forum here is my take on it.

Will an act of contrition get absolution or forgiveness? Its the only narrative that makes sense of his return. Celtic have hobbled Rangers with FSR which MN confirmed Celtic played a part in developing and also safeguarded them selves from future consequence of another insolvency event at Ibrox.

Good strategical and tactical reasons for leaving the ” Old Firm” protective blue pound model that has been a factor in past strategic business decisions.

However it seems only the signing of Messi or PL’s departure will close the chapter for from 2011 to 2022 for some and allow Celtic to go forward in a new direction from a more secure domestic base.

Knowing Joe McHugh has no love for PL as I do, the ” aye but” segment of doubt in terms of Jan recruitment is not unexpected and I understand why, but when evidence of change emerges so do long held opinions.

Strategically Celtic’s biggest football challenge is recruiting and retaining players and managers leaving after 2 seasons does not help.

Having a coach committed long term can smooth out churn bumps as can hiking the wage bill to help recruitment and retention.

So with some form of football unity emerging it makes no sense to me to create division.

‘A house divided cannot stand” is wisdom of the ages and how a divided approach is going to help end a war created by deep division beats me.

Brother Walfrid spirit is oft quoted but his answer was the opposite of division. He helped unite and feed his community through football under the name of Glasgow Celtic.

Sure the love of manna crept in over the years, that is human nature, but it is also human nature to change direction if it is going in the wrong way.

Perhaps events in Palestine will help the change of direction from division to unity.
Chairbhoy, your reference to Joe’s report led to the latter comments for more general consumption and is not a response to you specifically.
