The Day of Action

Today see’s two clashes at Parkhead, one on the field of play and one off it.
Given our clubs supporters rarely stage or visibly protest against the board and their decisions, I’d suggest it’s the more important of the two main events.
I’ve no idea what the entire plan is (I think they are playing their cards close to their chest) but it’s known the Green Brigade and probably The Bhoys shall protest on the Celtic Way pre-match. I expect speeches and fliers handed out to be on the agenda.I’m happy at this decision for a few reasons.
First and foremost it can only be a good thing for the board to look outside those windows at the support taking a stand.
Secondly this offers the Group(s) to put forward their case directly to the support, and not only that it offers the support an occasion to speak directly with them.
If anyone has something to say or ask, they shall be right in front of you, and with presumably thousands of other Tims around it’s a safe environment to correspond if wished for.
Action is something no Tim of recent generations are used to, nor the PLC, and peaceful action that can be rationalized is everyone’s right. Whether you support this particular group(s) behavior or methods, one really should support their right to protest today, and if you’re going to the game anyway, why not go hear them out?
Having listened to the latest board propaganda, I would much rather attend a meeting of local Tims intent on challenging the suits.
Many have said the word ‘boycott’ before and it’s been stated the overseas fans are the only ones to ask this as they have less connection or less to lose. The fact the local group The Bhoys are voluntarily boycotting in solidarity with the Green Brigade proves this theory wrong. Celtic fans in Glasgow are actively boycotting attending, words I never thought I would type.
Momentous? I don’t know.
Significant? Certainly.
No one actually ‘needs’ Glasgow Celtic. Your life would change drastically but you would survive.
That’s just you, the individual. Look at it from a groups perspective, if 30/40/50/200 youngish supporters collectively give it up, it’s much easier as matchdays will be spent with friends and entertainment, only minus the club. There’s the next generation lost to the cause, more after that. Today sees conflict within the family, but sometimes that’s necessary, never nice but needed. In a week when the old boys network dug it’s claws deeper by staying the Desmond’s were going nowhere long long term, a family dispute was always on the cards.
We are generally unhappy with the clubs strategy and vision, another 50 years of the same hardly whets the appetite. The Desmond dynasty is unpopular, it’s very fitting they receive visual pushback right outside the Park.
Inside the Park it’s been noted there’s a distinct lack of atmosphere without the usual cheerleaders, and I’m curious to see if that resumes, another thorn in the boards side maybe?
Can the club afford to lose that special touch they bring, especially in Europe with the Tifos added in? I’m not sure they can. The stadium atmosphere is one of the clubs ace cards to play, recognized as one of the best the world over. It’s beyond foolish to risk that special touch they bring, which brings club income such as the much marketed Barca Anniversary Tifo.
The old men play with fire, perhaps too set in their ways to realize the potential damage banning groups rather than individuals does, perhaps blinded by the accounts and feeling smugly in control with plenty of money.
But money can’t buy you love, nor a good matchday experience. Ever seen a board designed and financed TIFO? No and there’s a big reason for that. Their displays scream cider and gambling, ours say f##k fascism.
I’m lead to believe the AGM revealed a possible main stand expansion, alongside a 5 figure waiting list for season tickets. The contribution of the Green Brigade towards the matchday experience helped fuel these, yet to these eyes this contribution is being sacrificed on the altar of football politics. Assuming folk will continue to always fork out for a diminished product is not a smart gamble.
Entering the extended Champions League without that special touch atmosphere would be pure folly.
A resolution should be found ASAP, for everyone’s benefit, but I doubt our string pullers even realize that.
As for the match it’s intriguing as the wings are short of numbers and I’ve heard speculation either James Forrest or the mysterious Mikey Johnson could be in line for a start,,,and wait for it,,,Tilio might even be spotted! I await with bated breath.
I’d be inclined to give Calmac a rest, but that’s doubtful, and Ralston might come in to cover right back.
So a few changes are expected, but not the outcome. On a high, adapted to Brodge-ball, solid at the rear with our old/new left footed center back, we should steamroller most visiting domestic competition. I expect more of the same today, goals spread around the team and a resounding three points.
Today I’ll support the team and the fans not in attendance, but not the board. I don’t speak for you, but I do hope you’ll join me in that sentiment.
Today might witness the seeds of change being planted, on this Day of Action, seeds which all of us should nourish and nurture.
And hopefully watch blossom.

Mahe Fully support The Green Brigade who have been very harshly treated by the Board and The Bhoys protest 👍 but as yet there has not been a call for a wider boycott of CP HH

November 25, 2023 12:14 am

Nor will there be Gordon, it must be organic and self imposed.
Take care pal and Hail Hail

November 25, 2023 12:30 am

Mahe 👍 Tomorrow will be a test of the Celtic support for the fantastic GB 😎 We know that there is little love for the GB in the Main stand in and the Corporate seats however the rest of the support is divided probably on a demographic basis 🤔 Its time to ‘Stand Up for the Green Brigade’ ! ✊ HH

Very Interesting Lead Mahe,

Certainly thought provoking…

Your support for the Board during the parsimonious summer transfer window, now going against them as they protect the integrity of a Club open to all is intriguing.

During the early seventies, walking through the old tenements of Parkhead towards Celtic Park and hearing the singing getting louder and more intense, through the deserted homes in various states of demolition the anticipation grew, then the steps towards the queues at the turnstiles as the hairs on the back of your neck stood on end with the raucous atmosphere inside the stadium, potent, palpable and you couldn’t wait to get inside to see the bhoys in the Jungle at full pelt.

Leaving Scotland a youngster with that love of Celtic and the obligatory dogmas seared into the psyche; Catholicism, Socialism, Moral Causation – it’s not hard to empathise with these Celtic groups’.

Of course those tenements and most of that stadium is long gone, certainly the Jungle has disappeared.

Just like my Amnesty International, CND, Miners Solidarity, LCC badges have gone.

Causes without a rebel, well this one at least, as each current event is viewed and a free-thinker, a lot older and a little wiser ruminates.

So my sympathy for these lhads and lhassies is limited.

They don’t own the atmosphere, they didn’t create it

they don’t own the causes they didn’t sacrifice for them

they don’t have the right to impose their machismo and flares

and they don’t have the right to push their agenda down other folks’ throats.

They work hand in glove with the PLC Board when it suits them.

So they screwed up!? Accept that and give a humble mea culpa or if not, suck it up.

The PLC Board and the Green Brigade using Glasgow Celtic as their play thing for various agendas don’t wash.

We are back to the football today, ’cause you know fans without the football are nothing.

The famous Glasgow Celtic v Motherwell

The match doesn’t need this Board nor the ultras.

Celtic 3 – 1 Motherwell

The Jungle, now that was a big miss…

Good article Mahe. The GB and Nicholson have to come to some sort of compromise, as the place is like a morgue without them.
I don’t believe that it’s a protest today. They are going to be in the Celtic way to greet the team as they arrive, as quite a few fans do .

As for the AGM, the biggest downer from it was that the Desmonds are here for the foreseeable.
Also does anyone know ,what is exactly being done at Barrowfield and how much is it costing .

November 25, 2023 9:29 am

Hopefully the club haven’t employed some leftover accountants and management from HS2.

In fact,I’m long overdue giving them that very thing myself.

Good morning from a frost coated west coast. Interesting article Mahe. Personally I don’t go to Celtic Park to see political banners or listen to songs of hatred against others but unfortunately it’s what we see every game. Both these ultra groups have some level of support from me but very very limited . The work done by the GB in particular for homeless – food banks and Christmas collections is to be congratulated but never publicised as it deserves. Instead the negative as always overshadows that work. Have UEFA or SKY ever highlighted it . NO. Protest if you want but outside of the stadium and out of my view.
I go to watch football and the team. If I wanted to watch anything else I would watch telly. On the atmosphere yes it does lack it quite substantially but at least that drum banging in my ear from 6 rows back for over 90mins is missing at present so that’s a bonus.
On the match front today gives us a chance to further increase our lead prior to our rivals visit to the Don’s tomorrow. Let’s get behind them to make it happen.

St tams @ 9:18 am,

That’s an interesting question re: Barrowfield.

Who did the consultancy to get the “blue print”, for the Academy and Women’s team stadium?

When Lennoxtown was proposed, TB headed up the project and did a lot of research and consultation.

Of course when it came to implementation, a lot of the planning was rejigged and phase two shelved by the current Board.

The Academy results have been poor and comments about the facility being not fit for first team purpose.

Who makes these decisions?

It was like the decision to go 4-2-3-1 formation throughout all the Celtic teams, including the first team, getting Norwegian coaches, including Ronny Delia in, to support the training, conditioning and nutrition regime.

It seemed like a good idea to me at the time.

Yet it pee’d off Lenny, so who made that decision?

It’s no coincidence that these types of projects and overall facility improvements are back on the agenda since our long standing CEO left, yet you’d think the plans, budget, timescales would all be available if it’s a properly scoped project.

Youth, Fitba and Politics will forever be intertwined. Like or dislike the Green Brigade, that’s up to you but to take away their right to voice their opinions in the sneaky, conniving manner in which its been done smacks of control, nothing else. The similarities of the Board’s actions with regards to the GB and the attitude of the Thatcher Government to CND and the miners shouldn’t be lost on anyone. FFS…even UEFA changed the description of the Flag Protest to ensure the fine was enforced because they knew they were on dodgy ground.
I’m no fan boy for the GB but I’ll never subscribe to the manner or levels of petulance and control that this Board display.

In all seriousness St Tams…

The projects to make Celtic Park a “destination” for me was all to do with being an ECA Div 2 Club.

Since that went off the agenda so did those projects.

Have to disagree — your article gets it all wrong.

The focus should be on the football — OF PLC has this season down as a TFOD2.1 win.
So anything that takes the focus away from the game is self indulgent / attention seeking nonsense.

The GB made an erse of it 6 weeks ago with their desire to be first and to be uber trendy.
As many have mentioned they are political foetuses looking for attention — and how that day proved it.

How the exec level must love them — throwing themselves in front of a restless support to divert attention from the board.
What would Lenin think — Useless idiots.

Barrowfield upgrade …

General tidy up.
Indoor pitch — rigid tent by Rubb.
New facilities — gym and changing rooms in a posh portacabin.
Some views show 500 seats next to one of the existing pitches.

Very basic stuff — no real hint of a plan.

L/town upgrade — hints / aspirations / AGM froth.

Rubb website — sport stuff.

I think we all understand that kids will be kids. Been there, done that, plenty of times. What I will say is that when someone older told me I was out of order I listened and modified my behaviour. The GB have been asked and then told what they can and can’t do. Some of their behaviour puts their fellow fans at risk and yet they continue. The board had to act. I wish they could find a compromise but the board can’t be seen as weak (in this, any other time it’s fine!!) and the GB will never walk this back with the board. Very messy.
