Manager-less FC 1 – 1 Ambition-less FC

Two games ago the team barely showed up at all, and just about scraped a win.
The last game the team barely showed up at all, and scraped a draw.
It doesn’t take a genius to figure out what comes next, or soon enough.

I’m looking at that Pittodrie result alongside the Ibrox one, and thinking that’s momentum switched in this title race. Confidence and form wins you leagues, two things that are sorely lacking throughout our football department. It’s easy to see why we lack them, the players were used to big Anges swagger and his swashbuckling ‘were shall outscore them’ style of play plus always kept on their toes by new arrivals.
He’s been replaced by a disillusioned and ill at ease Ulsterman who wants possession, and is continually asking for better players.
Result,,,disenchantment everywhere.
Unhappy staff produce poor performance in most environments, but especially in football where you are seriously under the spotlight.

It’s hard to find positives today. We are a team on the slide despite being unbeaten in 7 games, injuries have taken their toll, our deflated manager must rely on deflated players to find form that’s been more or less elusive since his return, a hard but not impossible chore. As our title rivals find their mojo we still search for ours, and the inevitable giving up top spot will make the task harder. Heading into the business end of the season, the trophy destination is very much up in the air, we are probably no longer favourites. Reo isn’t coming back to fix things in the middle, Cam will help but I suspect will get injured again quickly as thsts the trend, Abada isnt inspiring, Kyogo has dissapeared, so it’s Idah and Kuhn we must pin our hopes on. Two new guys to save our season, not just strengthen our squad. It goes without saying we shouldn’t be in that position, and neither should they.

I could speculate galore on the intricacies of what’s gone wrong, but the rest of this months fixtures will tell me all I need to know. I always felt this particular month would separate the wheat from the chaff, it would prove defining one way or the other. Post window boost or,,,
First impressions suggest option 2.

A campaign that offered promise now offers the potential of a major shitshow, a collapse not only on the field, but off it as well. A tidal wave of anger shall hit the boardroom, some will not survive it. There was a banner in the away stand on Saturday acknowledging where exactly blame lies for our current predicament, ps it wasn’t Brendan.

What’s worse is that the joy has been sucked out of what shall be obe of the closest title tussles for years. Our good friend Rebus is a testament to the fact a neck and neck race isn’t always enticing. Not when it’s manufactured. There’s nothing pleasant about watching a man flung under the bus being under severe pressure to save his reputation.
Nothing nice about players being unhappy and perhaps not giving their all.
It’s sickening to know our suits will join in any victory celebrations if they come, delivered despite them (hopefully, and hope is all I’ve got at this stage) not due to them.

I do find one positive in our situation, that the veil is being pulled back, and we can all now truly and objectively witness the inner workings of our shot callers. As one poster succinctly put it, it’s like seeing the real Wizard of Oz behind the curtain.

Good evening, friends.
Just like last weekend, we started possibly, creating a few early chances. Just like last week we only managed to score 1 goal and again it was a deflection. Unlike last week we also conceded a poor goal, dropping 2 points and allowing the gap to close at the top of the league. There’s just no buzz about the place at the moment and we really need to hope that something gives us a jolt and wakens us up to the fact that we are currently in a ‘too close to call’ race for the title. Bet365 have both contenders tied at 5/6.
A glimmer of hope for me yesterday was that Kyogo was much more involved, particularly after the introduction of Idah and Kuhn. I’d be delighted if all 3 started our next couple of games.
Another we observation – most folk agreed that we played well below our best yesterday. And yet 13 of our 16 players did enough to earn a vote from at least one informed viewer! Funny old game right enough.
We have now played 32 competitive games, enjoying 20 wins, 5 draws and 7 defeats, scoring 65 goals and conceding 31.
My thanks to the 45 who voted this time around. The turnout for the 4 games in 2024 has gone 80 – 57 – 48 – and now 45. Are folk trying to tell me something?
The total votes cast for each player are as follows, with my own nominations asterisked.

Hart*: 44
Johnston, A*: 19
Nawrocki: 6
Scales: 12
Bernabei: 1
McGregor: 9
O’Riley: 0
Bernardo: 1
Abada: 0
Kyogo*: 5
Palma: 3
Kuhn: 24
Idah: 9
Ralston: 1
Welsh: 0
Vata: 1

And so, the players receiving POINTS for the game against Aberdeen are –
Hart – 5 points
Kuhn – 4 points
Johnston – 3 points
Scales – 2 points
Idah and McGregor – 1 point each

The overall positions after 32 games played are as follows –
79 points – Scales
74 points – O’Riley
53 points – McGregor
38 points – Carter-Vickers
28 points – Palma
22 points – Bernardo and Kyogo
21 points – Johnston, A.
20 points – Oh
18 points – Hart, and Maeda
16 points – Yang
13 points – Taylor
9 points – Johnston M, Nawrocki and Turnbull
6 points – Iwata, Lagerbielke and Ralston
5 points – Hatate
4 points – Bain, Holm and Kuhn
3 points – Forrest
2 points – Abada
1 point – Idah
0 points – Bernabei, Frame, Haksabanovic, Kelly, Phillips, Starfelt, Tilio, Vata and Welsh

We next travel to Edinburgh for an 8.00pm kick off against low flying Hibs. It’s possible that we might go into that game in 2nd place. But more likely that we will still be ahead but only on goal difference.

Hail Hail!

Funny how attitudes change over time.

Viewpoints that 3 months ago would generate howls of derision are now commonplace as we struggle to find good football and good form.

Overall — I fear games are being played to deliver agendas not good football.

DD — by all accounts he bust a gut to convince BR to return.

If that effort was all about delayed vengeance towards a manager that broke his heart 5 years before then DD is part Sicilian / part Hapsburg.

Huge play to work your OF PLC angle and get BR to take the blame.

Overall it looks to be too much of a play for someone of DD’s class — they do share an island background after all.

PL on the other hand …
Bringing him into the picture complicates matter.

It brings in OF PLC strategic — DD onboard with thoughts of his big arbitrage play.

That is buy SPL and sell EPL or now even Super League / SuL.

But it also brings in OF PLC tactical — which in contrast is a local play with DD somewhat removed from the action.

We are a small footballing nation / Glesga is a small city — people chat / people scheme / people repay favours / people work angles that are personally rational but corporately irrational.

OF PLC exists.
It is out there and has acolytes in G40.
There is a grid of who gets what / who does well.

Our current play is shocking.
To me it has moved beyond a poorly set up MF and a square peg in a round hole.

Our injury situation would not be out of place in a cheap Airport novel about the travials of a dysfunctional team with a semi detached manager down on his luck.

The contrast between TFOD2.1 games and the rest is telling — they represent 67% of our good performances this season.

The ability is there just a case that we can’t be bothered in the SPL so you have to ask what is causing the contrast?

BR not gelling with AP’s squad.
BR not gelling with this season’s newbies?
Squad not happy with BR / BR’s coaching?
Squad missing AP and his full on Aus ways?
Team playing games about who does what.
Team working agendas about who scores.
Players having too many conversations with PL?
Players having too many conversations with their bookies?

Penalties are giving the game away.
Free kicks are giving the game away.
Corners are giving the game away
Throw ins are giving the game away.
Vegetarian shooting is giving the game away.
After you Claude with chances is giving the game away.

Our current focus is not on winning the league.
We are not playing like a professional sports team.

If it all doesn’t make dense then you have to ask why.

Lightbulb moment for me — YH-j gets a start and his demeanour for 45 minutes was that of a wee gadgie running about laughing and joking as we played dross.

No professionalism and no engagement with BR — 6 months out of SK and he there he was out on show with all the bad attitudes that we can muster from West Central Scotland.

Starting in the SPL and it was all a joke.
Suggests that things really are bad.

The squad have to take some of the blame.
However I fear it is a symptom and not the cause.

Ego driven “revenge” against BR to me is the primary driver.

PL has to go.

February 5, 2024 5:54 am

I think also that PL has a plan in place to constructively dismiss BR.I also believe he’s is wrong to think fans will blame BR if we lose league. The reaction to losing a few a points Dec/Jan and the transfer window inactivity has shown who’s getting the blame.Surely BR if he has access to DD like he says will have made him aware of any barriers and problems he is facing…or is PL capable of pulling wool over DD’s eyes aswell?I wouldn’t be surprised if BR has an exit plan if things get worse .I really hope not as its obvious that its PL who thinks he can play games with our club and fans.

So we are the spectators looking in as Soap, a Scottish/ Irish production, is played out before our eyes in all its self destructive glory.
A tale of intrigue and contempt from two dysfunctional families.
In this version three families, as The Strachans have moved in almost unnoticed and are living in the Lawwell’s Lodge at the end of the heated driveway.

On that premise let’s examine the verity or absurdity of the conspiracy:

Is there absolutely no one with a backbone working at a senior level at our club?
A dissenting voice saying “for Gods sake get a grip”, or all they all craven yes men?

Are the players pulled into the farrago as PL’s hand reared puppets on the coaching sidelines, one his gormless neighbour, undermine BR?

Are the players literally going through the motions to achieve the square root of feck all and ruin their careers cos it’s all just a bit of fun, and it’s all someone else’s fault anyway we’re rubbish?

Is BR deliberately sabotaging the whole enterprise cos he can?

Are the scouting/ recruitment departments sabotaging the whole enterprise cos they have been deliberately hand picked for their natural uselessness and lack of skill set for the job?

Find out the answer to these and other questions when you next tune in on Wednesday 7th February at 8pm.

I’m sorry bhoys in my opinion you’re arguments don’t stand up the team has been crap since Rodgers returned, I don’t know how many times I screamed at the telly when Scales had the ball, I’m in Australia and can see the right winger screaming for the ball, he’s on the same pitch and can’t see it

Lawwell’s revenge?

You couldn’t rule anything out as far as this circus of a football club is concerned, however it’s difficult to believe anyone could be so vindictive.

Risk £50million CL money just to make an example of the manager – would be one of the most expensive dismissals in the history of football.

I’d like to think this disaster is due to a toxic mix nepotism, cronyism and sheer incompetence, rather than deliberate sabotage.

It definitely does seem that the manager is being undermined at every turn, mind you.

Poor performance levels — complex problem / multi variate solution.
Basic point for me is playing in the SPL — breeds bad habits.
Limited challenge due to limited opposition.
Not a great place to be.

All too easy to get sloppy / lazy / wasteful and wait for someone to deliver a worldie.
When you are so far ahead of the majority of teams who needs to work on penalties / corners / free kicks.
At times our captain and the senior players have fought against the sloppy gene and kept the show on the road.
At other times the captain and the senior players have been sucked in and stagnated with the rest.

AP fought against this attitude with some success.
In this he was helped by a terrible start and a backs to the wall vibe that won through in the end.
However even he had issues — CL winning attitude proved difficult to come by.
And the minute the squad knew he was away they got the holiday brochures out.
Coming out of 2022/23 — the squad were not as focused as well all hoped.

This season — dogs breakfast and getting worse on this front.
The club has divisions in it that can be seen from space.
Club and manager not pulling in the same direction.

Young squad with little experience or few senior professionals will always struggle in this environment.
Add in a very weak coaching staff / limited support staff / poor medical back-up …
It is a miracle we can play well for 45 minutes.

So for me BR is not the primary issue in play regarding our poor form.
The issue is club division and a young squad that is struggling to stay focused when all around is civil war.
When the club exec level is giving snash to the new manager it is difficult to stay focused and `follow his every world.

PL needs removed.
The squad need a boot up the erse.
BR needs support and better coaches.
The Munster Brothers need to fly the nest.

So, Brendan was only brought back so that the board at Celtic could toy with him for a while, undermine him the whole time, and then get rid??

Please tell me people don’t believe this nonsense.

February 5, 2024 10:16 am

I would push that the situation we have at the moment is pretty complex.
Us not winning the SPL this season will generate a couple of outcomes.

It will damage BR’s reputation to the point that he would be a much diminished manager and could resign.
OF PLC would be very happy as they would have gotten their wish for 2023/24 and TFOD2.1 will be financially strengthened.

In certain parts of G74 this potential scenario would be considered as a good 12 months work.

February 5, 2024 10:19 am

February 5, 2024 11:07 am

Paranoid much? Now i have little doubt that the majority of the PLC as well as major share holders want to see a financially stable Sevco (AKA R2angers) it makes mucho financial sense in their wee parochial world. Full ST uptake due to the draw of Scottish bigotry- a proven fact – nae huns = upper tiers closed, feck all to do with bland Ronnie D style football and a poor team – cause we had a much better team then IMO, just look at the 2014 – 2015 squad and compare with what we have now, bland football as bad as under Ronnie and a shite squad as well yet there is ‘allegedly’ a waiting list for ST – whats’s changed🤔 Yup Sevco are back, feck being lied to, feck being mugged by the board each transfer widow, ignore all that pish – ‘look the Huns are back’. BUT shirley not even a conspiracy theory aficionado extraordinaire could really believe that the manager is being deliberately and maliciously undermined from within the club and the league is being thrown because of it.😮 IMHO it is much more simple, the board simply are not fit for purpose and do not have a clue how to run a modern football club. Celtic have amassed a huge bank balance in spite of them not because of them, that in itself is a minor miracle.

It is difficult to be that bad through ignorance / incompetence / chance.

You need to work at it to fail that big in the face of the footballing rewards on offer.

February 5, 2024 11:30 am

Morning all!
I agree games are being played, the thing that confuses me is why? It’s not in anyone at Celtic’s interest to stymie the League so badly in favour of the Huns – well, not that I can see. I agree there’s egos at play…but to what end!
For whatever reason the Club is behind the game here, scouting in the wrong markets, a narrow field of Tier 2 Agents with lower costs and lower quality prospects but saving the Club a few quid in the signing process. Picking up guys on £3-10k a week, good for players used to earning half of that and good for us as we pick up players for a fraction of the price elsewhere.
Then Brendan comes in and says no to what’s being offered and the system collapses! What else could it realistically be?

Could be a bit of both.

My gut feeling is that the whole shebang is dysfunctional. There’s no over all vision, no clearly defined goal or ambition.

I suppose that’s an inevitable consequence of being the financially secure half of a duopoly, where the other half is at risk of going under and dragging you down with them.

It’s easy for the other half, they are fighting for their survival, so they are all pulling in the same direction. Celtic aren’t.

I can’t see much changing under the current ownership.

Ernie…we had a discussion about it in the pub yesterday and that was essentially my point. The structure of the Club from top to bottom is dysfunctional, it’s seriously in need of an overhaul. Fresh faces with fresh ideas to include sorting out the shambles that is Youth fitba in this country.
But wait…wasn’t Dominic McKay brought on board for that?!

Under those circumstances, they really can do what they like without any fear whatsoever!

Celtic closed the gap further from Sevco with an inept fitting transfer window finale at the Beach End in Aberdeen. Nobody could have thought Celtic would finish a league game with such a side that included back up players, and none of the now infamous summer nine.

Better Celtic sides have lost title leads and Saturday’s dropped points were hardly earth shattering, but significant when its point fourteen. The inability to turn possession, to goals was a carry on show from last week, to this. Brendan Rodgers sleeps like a baby, and chooses his words carefully next day, where he needs to turn the pages of his tactical football manager album.

Wee Alex was lively in the first half, but BR spared us further calamity in the second, as the Argentinian wasn’t just having a bad haircut day. Tony (bless him) Ralston’s odd mechanical gait looked even odder down the left. The back two and it is a back two, were both posted missing, as the Dons just like Killie took a shock lead after their HT orange. Alistair continues his adventures of Tin Tin and if ever there was a player that needed a break, its him.

Callum MacGregor was invisible from his 451st game ,Bernardo missed another open goal and might have been better off staying in Dubai, with his burd. Matt O’Riley for the second week in a row, looked like he had a doze of the Athleti, did they really offer us £20M, or did we just make that up?.

Luis Palma could flatter to deceive for Honduras but if he was chocolate he’d definitely eat himself. Kyogo struggled somewhere inside the low block and dropping back a bit, at least reminded us he was on the park. Abada should have scored and spared us from VAR, whatever Liel offers, it isn’t from wide on the right.

So, it’s onwards to the unknown and Brendan’s first victory at Easter Rd? A scene where we once trundled back across the wee steel bridge to the waiting buses, having just witnessed Joe McBride, do a Miovski twice, in a shock home win. Team sheet latest…………Nicolas Kuhn

We have all witnessed the Man Utd fans protest against the Glazers. They have been doing it for years. Has made not one blind bit of difference. Profit dividend, profit dividend. The Glazers use Man Utd as a cash cow. When they have finished milking it they will sell, on their terms, and their terms only. In the best interests of the Glazers, not Manchester United. Man Utd continue to be also rans on the elite football club stage.

Is Dermot Desmond really any different from the despised Glazers ? Happy to be Mr Celtic when there is an invite to meet the Pope in Rome, but attend a Celtic match, or even the annual AGM ? 1887 – “A football club will be formed for the maintenance of dinner tables for the children and the unemployed”.
“The Penny Dinner scheme.”
Plying its trade in Scotland, taken part in European competitions. Glasgow Celtic FC plays football in one of the suggested lower leagues. Financially bigger leagues pay there players enormous sums weekly ( Rashford of Manchester Utd. £350,000 per week)
and he is by no means one of the bigger earners.
Celtic FC has over £70 million pounds inda bank. WHAT? your kidding, no siree Bob, that’s true.
Jimmy Cricket was famous for saying “And There’s More” (I should know I quoted him when this site began).
MORE? – In Barbados when playing ‘Fore’ is it true Mr. DD. get out the road son your in my line of vision.
MORE? Mr Lawwell in Glasgow. “No Comment”.
‘And there’s more’ to be announced later this week, but don’t expect to see any riddy’s.

Iv’e searched the globe and never, ever found any football club that has that amount of money, in any bank, because they always reinvest in their team, that’s what they do, reinvest in new players, ambition dictates that they should, but that’s the difference, those that run Celtic FC want to earn lots but are not ambitious or confident enough, to spend to achieve.
Nearly all Scottish football clubs are running on fumes, scraping to get by.
Celtic FC, are Scottish football, our finances dictate that, “We Arra Peepul”, we run Scottish football, cos if we don’t? then there is something very wrong, there’s plenty wrong, very wrong.

DD spent more money on buying shares in Man Utd than he has ever spent on Celtic. Then sold them for a huge profit to the Glazers.

Which suited Fergie. DD was part of a consortium that intended to boot Fergie out if they achieved control.

February 5, 2024 2:50 pm

Well, that was a curious weekend! Having chucked Celtic after sixty years, I expected withdrawal shock. It never happened. Now, it has to be said that I did not go cold turkey. No Sir, I had one game left on my CelticTV subscription, so I watched the Aberdeen game. I tried to be neutral, looking upon it for its entertainment value. I did not succeed, of course, but I could see that this was an entertaining match, especially in the second half. Both teams were going for it and play was end to end.

Overall, was I disappointed? Yes, but not to previous levels. I felt that the outcome was not truly touching me. After the January Window, results like this were expected. The team remained as dysfunctional as ever…the too slow transition out of defence; the same doomed to failure front three. Only this time none of the midfield three could rescue the mess with a goal.

The new arrivals perked things up when they came on. Kuhn showed the value of shooting, even weakly and with little hope. Idah flicked the ball here and there and won a few headers. There is hope in these signings, if only that one day Kuhn will actually smile. Is there any joy in the man?

By the end, I was relieved that I was out of it all.

I have composed my letter to MN but not sent it yet. I shall only get one shot at this and I want the tone to be correct. I have a near zero expectation that anything will come of it. One small wave will not change the shape of the beach.

I expect next week will be much harder.

My Plan B was to follow L’pool as I like their style of play. I tuned into the Arsenal game and old ghosts appeared before my eyes. Where was the Pool team of recent times? What turned up was a team scared of making errors, scared to lose the ball. As a result, I saw a team that moved the ball cautiously out of defence and had one shot on goal in the first half. The Pool equaliser was a comedy of errors by two Arsenal defenders, as was the winning goal for the home team. I had to double check that L’pool were not wearing the famous hoops 😀

So, giving too much respect to the opposition can have disastrous consequences in any league, not just the SPL.

Have a great day, everyone.

Managed decline is another cute euphemism corporations use to manipulate operations. This strategic tactic is employed to redirect revenues, reduce costs- particularly with regard to wage bills, and manipulate the market in which it operates.

Now ask yourself, why is our football operation being obviously mismanaged? There are too many experienced and savvy operators in possession of executive titles for this entire mess to be simple incompetency. A billionaire and his son, who do not make business mistakes incidentally, also oversee final decisions. The sum total of Celtic’s operating efficiency quotient is staggering.

We have a conflicted manager, who’s physiognomy suggests he is set to explode, we have a goal machine who has been effectively neutered, our captain has gone AWOL, and apparently there is not one decent left back for sale on planet earth.

Toss into the suspect cocktail that we have the obstreperous manager of the disastrous COVID season issuing sound bites in the MSM to motivate and further the hun’s cause.

Managed decline = disenfranchised supporters. A dangerous gamble with the faithful through and through’s emotions.

Stinks to high heaven I tell ya.

I shall cc JPT. My communication is for my benefit not for anyone at Parkhead, so I do not care if I het a response.

Anyone trying to navigate the FuturePay mechanism that CelticTV uses will appreciate how difficult it is. I asked WebHelp on CelticTV to cancel my subscription. It worked like a charm. I wonder if they have received a few such requests.

Got to go now,

The whole mood of every Celt on the planet, would be improved immensely, if Peter Lawwell was removed with immediate effect. Nothing good can come of this man’s continued presence. Every time a photo of this charlatan appears on a Celtic site, my blood pressure goes through the roof. Pete The Cheat can f**k right off…and take his offspring with him. Obviously there are other pressing problems…but this clown is the cause of most of the angst. BR would be a much happier manager with this (Hun) monkey off his back.

Big Packy
